It was pretty decent, in my opinion. The weakest link was the girl. The way she talks is near lifeless, like a ghost, and almost all she says is "Science, Science, Science", and it can get annoying.
I agree. The young girl was very hard to get warmed up to, at least for me. She just didn't emote and it did get irritating with the science thing. I also was bothered by some of her dialogue, some of it just didn't feel like a normal girl her age would say. It felt very forced. Other than that, I really, really enjoyed this film. I hope these movies somehow start to bomb so Disney will be forced to resort to cancelling future live action remakes and filling in these free movie blocks with original works. There's gonna be a breaking point because a lot of people are already sick and tired of these remakes, myself included.
If Aladdin and The Lion King aren't good, then I'm abandoning these Disney live-action movies. The only good one to have ever come out was the 2016 Jungle Book.
> Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito > Tim Burton directing > Danny Elfman score > circus clowns Are we sure this wasn't some bizarro-world prequel to Batman Returns?
indeed it DOES!!! there is *no* way remakes will soon become the norm in Hollywood or Bollywood themselves whatsoever! seriously Hollywood, leave the originals ALONE!! >:(
@@dragontales1999 Why don't you like it? Most of the Pokémon remain fateful to their source material just with realistic textures, the movie is taking a risk by not following Ash or following the typical formula of collecting gym badges and is instead following the story of a spin off game Detective Pikachu, the humor is pretty good and the world building and story are great.
I'm gonna have to be honest with you, I think people just slammed this movie out of nostalgia and it's kinda weird because Dumbo wasn't loved all that much by people. It's only until that it got a remake that people go "Oh Dumbo was such a great movie! A classic original!" Yeah where was that love before this movie? The only thing people seemed to like about the "original" Dumbo was the pink elephant scene and the lullaby maybe, but that was it! That's why I have a hard time taking these kind of reviews seriously because I think it's more so a bias outlook, especially since it seems to be more of a trend to hate the remakes. Which is kinda funny Animatt since you were kinda thinking the same as me when it came to the reboot of She-Ra. You wondered why people were hating it. I don't hate the remakes. I don't love them all. Beauty and the Beast remake was a mix bag but I agree, the main characters were crap in that movie. But I love the remake of Jungle Book because I hated the original movie and I think the remake fixed all the problems I had with the movie, such as Mowgli taking responsibility for his actions instead of whining "I wanna stay in the jungle!" I love the Lion King to death but I see the upcoming remake as another adaptation, like that of the broadway musicals. I see it as another telling of the same story which funny enough, that's what Disney always does. Disney has always done retellings. Name one original big smash 2D animated film that wasn't based on a fairy tale or a book. If Disney can do retellings of books, I don't see the harm or even that much difference when doing the live action remakes. It just people have a different opinion.
Ducking exactly, most people pretty much talked about most of the Disney Renaissance ones, more than the one's that came before it. Hell what's even funny is that they complain that about them not carrying what made the classic SOOOOOO special. When those movies themselves Had mostly nothing to do with the novels they are based on.
@@WillyWings98 Well would you expect a live action adaptation of Snow White from Disney where the Queen has her eyes pecked out brutally by a flock of birds?
@@e1iteyoshi998 I'm not that big of an expert of the stories they are adapted from but I don't think they would have something like that for being a little to violent.
this is the same thing for every disney remake they are great in some things but lack what was precious in the original animated film,Disney should rerelease their animated films again like in the 80s and 90s.
10:26 That girl was portrayed by Nico Parker. Looks like she stepped up her acting skills. After seeing *HBO's The Last of Us,* she's now a far cry from how she acted in the Dumbo remake!
I am beginning to think that these live-action remakes are not remakes of the animated films, but adaptations of fan-made novels of the animated movies. I'm not kidding, look at the books at any store & just the covers & back synopsis and it's exactly like the live-action remake movies. So these movies are just promoting & adapting the fan-novels.
Funny enough, at one of the theaters I go to, more tickets were being sold for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part than Dumbo, and that just shows how unnecessary this movie is
16:28 - 16:52 Speaking of the gossip girl elephants, I would rather spend time with the American settlers rather than spending time with these annoying teenage girls from Spirit Riding Free. Well Colonel has something to say about dirt about the tv show and the girls "Not the staples, no food, no water, three days." Me clapling my hands and smiling: "Oh..............do tell!" LOL 😅😂
Dumbo is 64 minutes long. Interestingly, it was made when BAMBI was still produced, but BAMBI wasn't even released till after DUMBO due to BAMBI taking longer, and Disney was met with suggestions by the marketer for his distributor RKO to lengthen it by 10 minutes instead..iornically BAMBI and some other 1940s Disney animated films are under 70 minutes, as well!
You know how Dumbo is similar to the Transformers sequels? Both feature title character(s) that are massively overshadowed by unnecessary characters and overused troupes. It all makes sense why Ehren Kruger was hired to write this. Keaton was actually bad trying to imitate Johnny Depp. Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito were great. This isn’t even much of a Tim Burton film, it’s more of a Disney movie than a Burton type since that creep and weird factor is cleaned out. Burton couldn’t do much to save it from the script or the acting (especially the bad kid actors).
knew the kids was going to be bad. it one of the reasons i didn't see the film in theatres. also when i saw that there was humans in the film. sure there was humans in the cartoon but they was there just to move the plot along. not to take up screentime with the animals. ugh
6:00 I will NEVER NEVER understand how crows voiced by black actors, who took sympathy on Dumbo and taught him how to fly and thus helped make him famous and reunited with his mother is suppose to be a bad thing or even racist. You westerners have a really strange notion of racism.
Listen you see you for understand. They are racist stereotypes of black people. This is what they back then, they made black people the joke of movie. Let’s not forget that slave girl that was in Fantasia. The leader crow is named Jim Crow and was voiced by a white actor.
The main crow (Jim crow) was voiced by a white person and the name Jim Crow is a very obvious reference to the Jim Crow laws. It was really progressive for the time though. I think the more under talked racism of dumbo is the song of the roustabouts, it depicts faceless African American men building tents while they sing how they work till they’re nearly dead for little pay and they “throw their pay away” and it even goes as far to say they’re happy. I’m sure when it was made it wasn’t intended to be racist as dumbo was progressive for the time, but there’s definitely a lot of undertones that haven’t aged well
@@MrChaotic4 what would you rather see, s remake that follows the same plot like the original as it's the point of a remake, or use the same name of the original movie, reference the original but never follow the same plot as the original or recreate the same heart and soul of the original movie?
@@jonnyboy4289 If it's done well, I'll take either, but the point of a great remake, to me, is to tell a new version of a classic story. Plus, while the original film is undeniably a classic, it's also very dated. Let's just be honest with ourselves. That's why I don't have a problem with this being different from the original.
Tim Burton directed the movie Big Fish which ALSO has a circus scene and ALSO has Danny DeVito as the ringleader, lmao. So he has no excuse to screw up Dumbo. The circus scene in Big Fish was ten times more magical than this movie.
Before this movie came out, I had posted a comment stating I was to staying away from this movie. This is mostly because I heard it was written by Ehren Kruger.
Does anyone else think if Disney has to remake their animated films, they should be their weaker films like The Black Cauldron, the first Rescuers and especially Chicken Little? It's a shame Gigantic got cancelled. My parents actually won tickets to see a screening but I'm kind of glad we ended up not going.
I think it was decent, it’s good in the some parts but bad in some parts. They didn’t have Dumbo talk or any of the animals talk, no characters got developed, the things in the movie got me confused on what time period it’s in and there’s no chemistry. Plus, there’s some mood killers when there was emotional scene. The movie doesn’t have a central character so no characters get any development and it’s chock full of horrible jokes with bad timing. The cuteness is only limited in the first part but it got old real quick. I lost interest this in this movie, it also has 0 storyline focus and it feels like two different stories just forced to be crammed together. I agree with the 5/10, it’s a mixed bag. {17:30}
I’m not interested I’m seeing the remake I love the original it was cute and emotional and I know the remake is going to suck when they replace Timothy Q mouse with these bland kids
Oscar95451 It is going to be the same thing just looking more realistic! You do realize that you will see Mufasa’s death look like a real lion’s death!
There's a common acronym used among animators called "K.I.S.S." It stands for "keep it simple stupid." That more you try and put into something, the more cluttered it gets and you forget to focus on what is most important. That's what makes Dumbo such a beloved film, it's simple but effective. It did so much with very little. It would seem Disney forgot that lesson when making this remake that I guarantee people will fuss about while it's in theaters, but when it's raked its money, people won't really talk about it again and divert their attention back to the original animated film.
13:29 It ain't worth it, but it perfectly describes why Ehren Kruger, IMO, is one of the absolute worst writers in Hollywood right now. He tends to cram in a bunch of shit in a way to where he thinks it'll make a movie feel like an epic, but in reality it just becomes a cluttered mess.
Right here's animat's reviews of all the 2019 films so far including live action film The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part: 7/10 How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World: 9/10 Wonder Park: 4/10 Penguin Highway: 8/10 DUMBO (Live action): 5/10 I knew you would give this a 5/10 from the beginning Next: Missing Link which is doing better than Dragon 3 on rotten tomatoes...

@@Oscar95451 No. It's a bad movie since day one and it's best off not talking about. Not to mention the Emoji Movie has already been bashed and beaten up to death and also I've seen Doug Walkers review of the movie and while it's bad a bad movie, but I don't think it scratches the surface to be a hardcore abomination that makes me angry or lose my mind as it's problems are mainly how generic, cliche and predictable the writing and story is as well as the characters, and how lazily written and unoriginal it sis with a dated concept that's doomed from the start. So, youre better off leaving it ignored and unseen.
@@jonnyboy4289 Yeah I seen it. I may find a whole story not just personal life but animatic appalling gross film, even they see a views complaining. So we're seen also review of Animat already too, have we. So that's that. I just saying though but this manmade therapy of reality.
I'm in no way defending the Sonic movie but at least it's somewhat different we don't get many video game theatrical movies and there are even less live action theatrical ones that get attention either way I'll wait for a trailer to fully judge the sonic movie.
So i'm gonna ask this just once: does anyone really have nostalgic memories of the animated Dumbo film? Cause really when i hear people bring up this movie I always hear the animated movie get praised for the pink elephants scene and the lullaby, nothing else. With this movie being compared to the live action counterpart it makes me think a lot of the hate the movie has outside of its problems is just mainly due to nostalgia for the original. I will agree that the animated version is better, but come on. At least with this adaptation it's trying to be more original and not a carbon copy of the original like how Beauty and the Beast was. Look I will agree the live action version is inferior to the original, but this is one time where i think the hate for it is unwarranted. I mean does this movie have problems: oh yes it is does. But they don't ruin the movie. The one real flaw i agree with 100% is the fact that the child actors in this movie are really bad. The acting sounds like something I'd hear in a bad M. Night Shyamalan movie. But other than it looks decent in my opinion. I know that some of these movies have been made to cash in on the nostalgia of the original, but imo this is one instance where i can see effort was made to make something different from it's original version.
I just saw Missing Link today instead of this. Good choice i must say. Personally, I enjoyed it even though I found it to be Laika's weakest film to date. I wonder what you're opinion on it is like.
The live action version was amazing in my opinion The expansion on the 1 hour story was okay and the expansion with the cooperate greed made it seem like it fast-forward in time. The actors portraying the new and old characters were spot on. But one thing left out made me not give it an 8/10...... The crows Overall it is 7.4/10
Wow you know for some factor I thought this was a pretty interesting feature, as it's trying to be like a remake and a sequel at the same time. But we can all agree the kids really are something I hardly was even into. The boy I can give a pass, but the girl is something I really didn't care about. All she wanted to be is a scientist instead of being a performer, but it's hard to embrace that when the girl showed less to be likable other than to be supportive of Dumbo, and yes we can agree she has less emotion than the last actor. But what I can depict from that, At least Emma Watson did better. even without emotion I still enjoyed what she has given, so at least she's more likable than the girl here.
There's also the little fact that the animators who worked on Dumbo were "the best of the best". Because Walt's 9 Old Men who were working on Bambi, were taught by the people working on Dumbo. As proof; to this day, Dumbo is used as an example of how to do great animation in schools.
The worst part about this remake for me, is that I have SO MUCH nostalgia and memories of the original Walt Disney classic. Despite the fact that the film is nearly 80 years old, and has a much lower budget than the previous films, it is an iconic element in cinema to say: "Something that is so simple and innocent, can also be something unbelievably great." But the 2019 version puts millions of chliches, boring characters, no connection to the original and AWFUL acting of the kids. I'm sure they might be really nice children, but the performance they is just dreadful.
I'm not sure if anybody has pointed this out yet, but I just looked up the running time of the two films. Dumbo (1941)-64 min. Dumbo (2019)-112 min. Why?
Supposedly this remake is written by the same writer that worked on the Transformers movies. So Tim Burton's involvement may not be the real issue there. Burton always at least tried to offer some effort even in some of his weaker works. The animated Dumbo will always be a cute and heartwarming classic. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I am also a bit curious about it too.
I do agree somewhat you said but I feel animation can do more and eva green riding Dumbo looked sillier than a talking raccoon and tree interacting with a human.
The original is better because it's a charming movie filled with emotions. Without those emotions, the movie would feel emotionless like this live action remake.

> Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito
> Tim Burton directing
> Danny Elfman score
> circus clowns
Are we sure this wasn't some bizarro-world prequel to Batman Returns?
I watched the original to keep my soul alive😔
Me too.
The live action remake trend needs to just die out already!
indeed it DOES!!! there is *no* way remakes will soon become the norm in Hollywood or Bollywood themselves whatsoever! seriously Hollywood, leave the originals ALONE!! >:(
Agreed.
Yep and hopefully the current trend of making generic live action Superhero movies dies with it as well.
Shazam! Was good but I agree with what you are saying.
@@PeterGriffin11 but after generic superhero movies die out what else do we have?
I figured that this film was bad; now excuse me while I look forward to Pokémon and Godzilla.
Hell yeah!
I think Pokemon will be another bad video game movie.
@@dragontales1999 It looks a lot more promising than Angry Birds 2.
@@gregglee438 that's not saying much.
Exactly. And don't me started on IGN's review of it.
@Sapphire Writer Well said!
Yeah, I’m steering clear from this one.
The key plot, of the remake, is Dumbo wants to be with his mother.
this is the same thing for every disney remake they are great in some things but lack what was precious in the original animated film,Disney should rerelease their animated films again like in the 80s and 90s.

That girl was portrayed by Nico Parker. Looks like she stepped up her acting skills. After seeing *HBO's The Last of Us,* she's now a far cry from how she acted in the Dumbo remake!
Now Nico Parker is Astrid in the Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon so Animat you will hate that remake for Nico Parker killing another classic.
@@angusng816
Oh... That I don't know how I feel.
It is very close from getting the Animat’s Seal of Garbage right here! I was expecting it to get that seal!
@ actually its a sequel to the book
@ its based on throught the looking glass book, while the looking glass movie is an original story
Except The Lion King is a shot for shot remake
2:16 I hear Casey Jr's lovely whistle tooting: ALL ABOARD!! LETS GO!!😍
Funny enough, at one of the theaters I go to, more tickets were being sold for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part than Dumbo, and that just shows how unnecessary this movie is
16:28 - 16:52 Speaking of the gossip girl elephants, I would rather spend time with the American settlers rather than spending time with these annoying teenage girls from Spirit Riding Free.
Well Colonel has something to say about dirt about the tv show and the girls "Not the staples, no food, no water, three days."

LOL 😅😂
Dumbo is 64 minutes long. Interestingly, it was made when BAMBI was still produced, but BAMBI wasn't even released till after DUMBO due to BAMBI taking longer, and Disney was met with suggestions by the marketer for his distributor RKO to lengthen it by 10 minutes instead..iornically BAMBI and some other 1940s Disney animated films are under 70 minutes, as well!
Hey give This Movie credit, at least it is self aware by having dumb in the title! 😂

Well.....so did the animated film.
Dumbo?
More like
DUMBHO!
I’ll see myself out
that's the 1st thing i thought when i saw the title cause this sounded like a better idea on Paper, toilet paper that is!
Get this man top comment now!!!
Nerd
Looks like we’ll need another landfill for all these terrible live action Disney film remakes. Lol
If Dumbo just got a score like that, I can only imagine what the Aladdin remake will get.
knew the kids was going to be bad. it one of the reasons i didn't see the film in theatres. also when i saw that there was humans in the film. sure there was humans in the cartoon but they was there just to move the plot along. not to take up screentime with the animals.
I’m sure when it was made it wasn’t intended to be racist as dumbo was progressive for the time, but there’s definitely a lot of undertones that haven’t aged well
I'm a bit shocked that the rating for this film wasn't lower, especially considering the remake's lack of heart.
What’s sad is that rotten tomatoes have the original an 80% while the remake was up to a 50% ironic isn’t
indeed it is! this remake looks like a Financial failure right here for Poor Modern day Disney at that too! ;(
@@chuckjose9271 Dumbo is the number 1 movie right now its not a failure unfortunately.

If I am being honest Dumbo is my favorite Disney animated film
I didn't have high hopes for this film considering its another live action Disney remake literally NOBODY asked for.
Timothy barley even showed up! And since he's my favorite character I have the right to complain!
I thought you were being harsh on Mary Poppins Returns, but this movie deserves all the bashing you gave it!
Note to self, keep Tim Burton away from remaking a classic.
Forget Tim Burton we need to stop Disney from remaking all their classics into soulless dull live action movies or CGI movies in Lion Kings case.
At least he's trying to be creative when he does remake it and doesn't do the same story again.
Jake Voronkov Telling a new version of a classic story a isn't a point of remake in fact it's a opposite or a remake.
I can't wait to see what you will say about the live action Aladdin movie.
He's probably gonna talk about Will Smith's Genie at some point.
I did enjoy this movie, but I wish it was a bit more like the original, oh well... I am NOW waiting for The Lion King!
I'm glad I haven't watched any of these remakes in theatres.
At least it’s not Alice in wonderland 2010
Oh hell no
It’s was a lot better than the new Dumbo
Tim Burton directed the movie Big Fish which ALSO has a circus scene and ALSO has Danny DeVito as the ringleader, lmao. So he has no excuse to screw up Dumbo. The circus scene in Big Fish was ten times more magical than this movie.
Join me and we well stop disney making remakes of their animated features
And who the hell do you think you are? The Wizard from Fantasia?
Before this movie came out, I had posted a comment stating I was to staying away from this movie. This is mostly because I heard it was written by Ehren Kruger.
Does anyone else think if Disney has to remake their animated films, they should be their weaker films like The Black Cauldron, the first Rescuers and especially Chicken Little? It's a shame Gigantic got cancelled. My parents actually won tickets to see a screening but I'm kind of glad we ended up not going.
Sam Feldstein Like remade as a live-action remake? I dunno about than. Maybe Black Cauldron though.
I think it was decent, it’s good in the some parts but bad in some parts. They didn’t have Dumbo talk or any of the animals talk, no characters got developed, the things in the movie got me confused on what time period it’s in and there’s no chemistry. Plus, there’s some mood killers when there was emotional scene. The movie doesn’t have a central character so no characters get any development and it’s chock full of horrible jokes with bad timing. The cuteness is only limited in the first part but it got old real quick. I lost interest this in this movie, it also has 0 storyline focus and it feels like two different stories just forced to be crammed together.
I agree with the 5/10, it’s a mixed bag.

Imma give this thing a chance, but only because the 2 minute opening is phenomenal. Casey Jr. has personality even when he’s not even sentient!

I do agree with you that the kids acting was bad
Timmy mouse in barely in the movie? This is sadning
Meanwhile I'm just sitting here waiting for Burton to make a movie about Tarrare already and I'm dying

The Lion King is the film that i'm looking forward to
Oscar95451 It is going to be the same thing just looking more realistic! You do realize that you will see Mufasa’s death look like a real lion’s death!

The problem with this movie sound similar to the Tranformers movie. Oh wait… it's the same writer.
Right here's animat's reviews of all the 2019 films so far including live action film
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part: 7/10
How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World: 9/10
Wonder Park: 4/10
Penguin Highway: 8/10
DUMBO (Live action): 5/10

Instead of Tim Burton directing this. Maybe Steven Spielberg could do this. Since he does emotional stuff in the past.

Can i talk about The Emoji Movie?
I'm in no way defending the Sonic movie but at least it's somewhat different we don't get many video game theatrical movies and there are even less live action theatrical ones that get attention either way I'll wait for a trailer to fully judge the sonic movie.
you could also throw Aladdin 2019 & Dora & the lost city under the bus too!
One 2019 Disney remake down, two to go.
I just saw Missing Link today instead of this. Good choice i must say. Personally, I enjoyed it even though I found it to be Laika's weakest film to date. I wonder what you're opinion on it is like.
SPOILER ALERT
5/10
I couldn't get into the new Dumbo film so I'll just stick with the old one
The one dislike is modern disney's current president.
The live action version was amazing in my opinion
The expansion on the 1 hour story was okay and the expansion with the cooperate greed made it seem like it fast-forward in time.
The actors portraying the new and old characters were spot on. But one thing left out made me not give it an 8/10...... The crows
Overall it is 7.4/10
"...Dumbo was not one of them..."
*W A I-*
Wow you know for some factor I thought this was a pretty interesting feature, as it's trying to be like a remake and a sequel at the same time.
Dear God help the Aladdin movie, the Lion King movie, and the Mulan movie. Little Mermaid movie, good luck.
Why did you not review A Wrinkle In Time and Nutcracker and the Four Realms as Seal of garbage worthy?
I'm not sure if anybody has pointed this out yet, but I just looked up the running time of the two films.
Dumbo (1941)-64 min.
Dumbo (2019)-112 min.
Why?
Supposedly this remake is written by the same writer that worked on the Transformers movies. So Tim Burton's involvement may not be the real issue there. Burton always at least tried to offer some effort even in some of his weaker works. The animated Dumbo will always be a cute and heartwarming classic. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I am also a bit curious about it too.
I'm still surprised he made this because Tim hates the circus
Being honest my favourite Disney remake is alddian
Why did Tim Burton do this again? Also why do a remake on Dumbo too? Just asking.
