My house is DIRECTLY under the Orlando International Airport outbound northward flight line. Sometimes they're so close to my house, I can count the pilot's nose hairs! (kidding!) A pilot friend of mine once let me take the controls on a training plane at Vero Beach airport. First and only time in a small plane! He now flies for American Airlines, last I heard.

The most impressive part of this overall demonstration of professionalism, is the way the Approach ATC builds the airspace for the time AFTER the incident. I mean he is staggering his traffic not only in a way that allows 1888 to seamless join the queue, he gives himself just that little bit of extra room to evaluate if he can continue to use that runway and then operate as normal as possible. That guy is about 5 minute ahead of whats going on, maybe a bit more. Wow. Total control.

That approach controller was totally in the zone. Amazing work under pressure on his part.
He knew exactly what he needed from each aircraft in his airspace at any given time, and was obviously planning a few moves ahead for multiple possible scenarios.
All that, and he was still communicating every move very clearly to each and every aircraft.
If I am ever on an aircraft that experiences a problem on approach, I want that guy on the radar.

I was flying to Vancouver on a westjet 737 a few years back. On approach the pilot applied flaps to the first setting and the plane dipped right forcing them to counteract with aileron. Nobody really thought anything of it other than a gust of wind maybe but when one of the pilots came out and asked three of us to get out of our seats so that he could get a visual on the flaps while the pilot in command toggled them, that’s when we knew there was a problem. I asked him if everything was going to be ok and he grinned at me and said, ‘just enjoy the high speed landing’ and that it was! What a ride and I was very impressed with their professionalism over the matter.

Great work from the ATC. Only issue I saw was a contributing factor for DAL1888's initial go-around. The tower controller tried to cross a heavy KLM641 across DAL1888's landing runway, and repeatedly told the aircraft "no delay" on the crossing. While "no delay" is not "expedite" or "immediately", the controller instilled a sense of urgency on the heavy aircraft to cross the runway quickly. The 7110.65Y 3-7-3 Ground Operations instructs controllers to avoid clearances which require super or heavy aircraft to use greater than normal taxi power.
It's amazing to think though that the go-around due to this situation exposed this faulty equipment in a relatively safe manor. I'm sure pilots would much rather discover equipment failures when they're light on fuel close to the airport, verses full fuel tanks or over the Atlantic.
