John Bonham Cross-Over Triplets Tutorial

- Hey all, welcome back to another tutorial. I was planning on doing fool in the rain this week, but decided that instead of doing just the shuffle, I'd do all the different rhythms, which would take a little longer and I've been really busy over the past few weeks so I wanted to alleviate the stress by doing another one I've been wanting to do. For the longest time, i've played cross overs with right hand lead, apparently well enough for people generally not to notice. However, as some have asked for a 'Bonham' triplet tutorial, which is left hand lead, I decided to finally learn it, and though I don't have it nearly as good as I do right hand lead, I felt I had it down enough for this short tutorial. Hope it helps you all, and see you all again in two weeks!

The best crossover tutorial available!
Wow thanks mate!
Literally every drum tutorial: 20 mins talking, 5 mins useful content, 10 mins showing off.
This guy: zero talking, all instructive drumming.
THANK YOU
Really glad you enjoyed this video, mate!
My 15 year old learned the crossover from this vid and he crushes it. Funny thing, he’s not really into rock. He loves hip hop but also loves to play drums. Kids these days, go figure.
Oh I'm really glad to hear that! Well there's a lot of underlying fundamentals to drumming which kinda weave their way into all genres, I mean, funk comes from the blues, and so does rock, and from funk eventually came hip hop, it's in its fundamental DNA, loads of odds and ends which come from different corners of music, thanks for watching!
Great job dude !!!! Amazing Cross over as John always played !!
Well tuned kit. Crash cymbals sound great
The toms sound awesome. Love the breakdown too. ❤👍
Thanks mate!
This must have taken some serious work to get those chops so clear. Excellent stuff, and a great breakdown.
Yeah it definitely took a long while, mostly got them fast by playing them in as many contexts as I could to get the muscle memory perfect, since that's the main trick of this: muscle memory. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, with the left hand lead, it's tougher to get it so fast if you are right handed. But with a lot of muscle memory with the left hand, it's still durable cause I can do that clearly fairly fastm
Dude… you deserve SOOO many more subscribers, you’re brilliant!!!!
Haha thank you very much!
I can only get the crossover triplets like that on 0:05 only with the right hand lead. I’m right handed on the drums but you are not bad with the left hand lead at all mate👍 Keep up the great work and finally cheers dude👏😄👍
Thanks a lot, mate!
Well done!
Thank you very much, Greg!
Love it! Nice job as always - super helpful!
Thank you, Jim!
Everything sounded incredible. Idk how many, if any "youtube drummers" can play thoes Dazed crossovers at that tempo. WOW
It's certainly a tricky one! I'm glad you enjoyed!
This is incredible! I’m trying to learn LRK and RLK triplets but they get so fast then break up… doing my head in!! I just think keep slow and get that smooth before speeding up…?
Thank you so much Martin! They're a tricky muscle memory to get down (that's the trick to getting them lightning quick), and the way I got to that point was when practising them, play them in EVERY SINGLE FILL YOU PLAY. So get some tracks up, play though them and if a fill is coming up: triplets. Now remember, once you've got them perfect, use them sparsely; they are an extremely cool and diverse type of fill, and because of this it's very easy to just play them all the time (when you've stopped practising them), and then they can become boring and repetitive. This is a trap I got deeply ensnared in when I first learned how to do them, and now I use them less, when they do come out they sound HUGE
Hope this helped!
Cool
Thank you, red!
That’s great but I wish you show the sticking pattern for the toms right left right left etc
For the triplets it's entirely LRF, it theres a specific part that you're confused tell me the time stamp and I'll try and help you out
Drum Sheet? 🤔
I'm sure you can suss it out
