    UPDATE..
    After a horrible experience yesterday with a new reel, I watched this video tonight and set the spool up just like you said with no side to side movement... I also switched it to a light action 5'6 rod, just a cheaper Berkeley rod as I am waiting on my zephyr I bought on eBay .. Spooled with some destron 6 lb braid you recommended, but did not arrive yesterday until I got home from fishing... Those three changes made all the difference in the world tonight casting a 1/16 oz roadrunner jighead only... Casted perfectly without my thumb even on the spool, it would go 46 ft time after time

      Shimano typically used Centrifugal braking... Old school, but they have perfected it, but I don't have any of their reels with that style of braking lol. I do like their bfs magnetic braking tho...

    Great video, this subject needs to be talked about more. I can't tell you the number of times I've yelled at the screen when someone is showing you how to adjust the zero adjust tension knob on a Daiwa. They usually complain that they made it hard to get a good grip on 😂. Keep up the good work.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Рік тому

      Lol.. I will make a video of the Daiwa zero adjuster sometime this season. I will show folks how to retune it if for some reason your buddy turned it or if you swap spools and need to readjust. But yeah it's time for the new school BC tutorials. I can't believe I watched a video the other day... And they are still teaching the old method for centrifugal braking and not telling people that it is for that specific braking style only...

    Magnetic braking is the greatest thing to come along for fishermen. Old-school Penn reels made of bakelite and metal had just spool tensioning adjustment.

    I definitely need to watch this! Ordered a cast king zephyr last night. It showed up this morning. Couldn't wait to try it out. Had nothing but trouble the entire day ,finally went back to my spinning reel.. had the brakes set all the way tight, it cast to the left everytime, anything but all the way tight and it bird nest..

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Рік тому

      The zephyr can do 2.25 grams and up out of the box. Anything lighter will be difficult unless you upgrade the bearings, but the improvement isn't too much. So try a 1/16th Oz Jig and a 2 inch plastic lure for practice on an UL rod or L

      My zephyr was perfect! Casts even as good as my Shimano curado BFS

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Рік тому

      Perfect is subjective... But glad it's working for u. But I could never compare the zephyr to the curado... Even tho I was the one who helped kastking develop and release the zephyr. But I have to say that the curado doesn't do that well below 2 grams. It takes very skillful casters to do it at short distance for the stock reel.

      That's a good diameter line. Genius isn't made to throw too light if a lure. So if too much line is added. It could impact your casting. I would just keep it around 125 to 150 feet. Don't max the spool

    Hello. New to this sport. I see almost every video on BFS having fisherman trying to cast as far as possible. I choose a Aurora air and a kastking kestrel bait FL action for small trout streams near Bogota, Colombia. I had one trip casting 1/64 ounce trout magnet and I was lucky didn´t need to cast too far because I was sucking at that moment. Got a trout but still need to practice a lot on setting the reel. Are you usually casting as far as possible? What if you need to cast in the 5 meters of water in front of you, how do you change ythe strenght put to the rod? On those small streams you need to be able to cast from 3 to even 15 meters to reach the places where trout is. Also be very precise. I normlly reach those places with a #3 fly rod. But after 20 years with that want to learn something new. THanks for sharing this videos. I am here into this sport because of you , thanks mate.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  3 місяці тому

      While bfs isn't about casting far... That's the nature of the sport! We still need distance for some fisheries.. But if you don't... Bfs, like fly fishing, is very efficient for short casts.
      Dont expect trout magnet to cast far! Lighter the lure.. The less distance. I would choose a heavier lure.
      You can also try higher end reels, bearings, thinner line and less line!

    Jimmy. Thanks for putting this video. Two observation: regading the zero tension knob, the manufacturer discourages to monkey arou’nd with it. I have the Daiwa Tatula SV TW 80, Simano Curado DC, Simano SLX DC and have never had to touch the tension knob. 2) it seems unorthodox to use this method for adjusting the baitcaster when in all non-digital/non magnetic baitcaster reels, you set your tension on high then loosen the spool tension until the bait or lure slowly falls (this is where you want to leave it at). Can you elaborate please?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Рік тому +1

      Zero Tension Adjuster... yes, Daiwa suggests not to touch it. But you should know how it is setup. Why? because if you lend someone your reel and they changed it.. guess what? You are going to need to learn how to fix it or send it to someone who can, whether its a reel maintenance business or Daiwa itself. Waste of time and money!
      So in this video, I explained how anyone should setup Magnetic Braking Reels, and the way I have taught it is exactly how Daiwa would FACTORY tune their baitcasting reels with the zero tension adjustor.
      I know nothing of Shimano reels as I am not a fan of centrifugal nor cheap DC reels. I owned an SLX DC and it's crap! Sold it fast as possible and never looked back! Higher end DC reels are amazing, but i don't wanna spend the money for those.
      The method you describe for tightening the tension knob and let the lure drop slowly is a LEGACY process for centrifugal braking only. While you can still use it for magnetic braking reels such as Daiwa, it shouldn't as it's inefficient as we all know that Magnetic Braking reels, especially Daiwa, works best with NO tension. This is why Daiwa have decided to tune their more expensive reels for ya and call it the Zero Tension Adjuster knob. They factory tune it and then make the knob small and hard to get to!
      let me know if u have any other questions!

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Рік тому

      If you are bfs fishing... Just practice with whatever thin line you can get. 4lb mono is fine. Just keep drag low and never use the spool to break off a snag. But I use 0.6 gou braid. It's better to go by line diameter than line strength when we talk braid and the easiest way to talk diameter is by gou, not inch or mm

      Bait casting is fun. Hope this video helps you tune your magnetic bc reels. This method works for both bfs and non bfs reels as long as it is magnetic. Unfortunately I don't know many 1 piece rods that are considered stater range. But be rest assured that the new age multi piece rods uses the spigot ferule connection that allows the transitioning of power and sensitivity extremely well. Www.baitfinesseempire.com will have many bfs rods for you to browse through. Tsurinoya Dragon is what I would suggest and perhaps either Tsurinoya genius or dark wolf ultra for a starter reel!
