  • Wet bricks, rain and your mortar not going off for days...what could go wrong? BUT we got there in the end! When I'm struggling with situations like this, Its important to remind ourselves that the work we do as bricklayers will be seen many years after we're gone. So stop, take your time, and get it right...or near as damn it 🤜🤛🧱
Lucky for me I was able to stop all of the brickwork over the soldiers from bellying out using some props, if I didn't you would have gotten a video of my crying with a wall on the deck 😂 Have a good week people 🤜🤛 keep those bricks dry

A old Brickie told me in winter to always try to get the bricks on site a month early to dry out. Open the sides but cover up the tops. Working with wet bricks makes a good brickie look bad. Your works looks great though 👍🏻

Strewth, that wet day was intense and I could feel my blood pressure going up! The rain made everything so much harder than I expected. It’s made me feel somewhat stressed out!
Not rushing and propping the soldiers shows a high level of professionalism and experience yet Izzy is humble to appreciate a helpful tip from another bricky.

Good brickwork as usual mate but if you prop your brickwork from underneath with a bit of timber couple mm bigger than the height of your lintel that will keep it all nice and tight on the lintel no sag from underneath as your going over the top with your brickwork and then you won’t have to do the limbo

Hiya mate! Thanks for sticking with me! It's been so hard the last 2 weeks to do any filming or anything. Weather has been terrible..and I've had some shit drops so I've have 0 to film! HOWEVER! I've got a new video on Sunday! Setting out a new extension (sorry but there's an advert in it 😘)
And then I've got another video coming out Wednesday pt2 of that video!
It's really hard to get a good upload schedule this time of year because of the weather and sometimes you can't just film clips... because you've got too much to do and you cant really be arse to pull out a camera and talk about what your doing... sometimes you just gotta crack on 😭
I take alot of time and pride in my videos, the time and effort that goes into them is unbelievable...I could pump out 5/8 min videos daily. But they would be shite mate. I like the videos to tell a story..or have a nice flow to them.
Cheers Glenn! Hope your doing great buddy and managed to stay a bit dry this week!

Izzy, you're a serious bricky. You're work is always quality. I've been bricking timber frames of late and found the soldier courses tricky. Like you say they always want to lean out even with a skim of mortar on the front of lintel. what I started doing was to lay the next course over the soldier as i went. ie- I lay 3 or 4 soldiers then a strecher on top , another 3 soldiers, strecher, etc. It really steadies up the soldier course and solved my problem.

done well. never actually seen bricklayers protrude damptray over the front of the lintel, i know that's how it should be done but usually unsightly so don't normally do it. Did well keeping soldiers to line with no support, sometimes we prop timber underneath to underside of lintel, gives a wider bed. 👍👍

Cut a piece of 4b1 5/10mm shorter than size of the opening and put it under the lintel, and cut like 2 or 3 pieces of 4b1 to hold it underneath. That will help a lot with the stability of your soldiers the front of the brick will be supported and your bricks won't want to tip forward as they do now. Great work keep going good content!
