- Unfortunately Drew is off for the next few weeks due to an injury. So I had to pull up my sleeves and work double time and hard to keep this extension on track.

Well done mate for all that hard graft. Its not until you lift, shift, mix, lay, point, wash and all the other things yourself then realise how helpful those labourers are! Its bloody hard graft and I see your'e not afraid of it . Some going on your own for one day with the rain imminent!

Hope y'all had a brilliant weekend! Definitely a hard one this week without everyone's favourite lad (Drew) but, made progress regardless! Might be a delay on the new episode. Drew is still off this week, and I'm going away for a while for a much needed holiday, so there will be no filming. I'll see what I can do though! Have a great week, enjoy the sun

I've just come across this video. If we had builders' and tradesmen's licensing in the UK combined with statutory standards of professional training and apprenticeship, we'd have a lot more Izzys around and no more wretched cowboys. Currently only gas engineers and electricians in the UK building industry have to be properly trained and then licensed. The same is needed of building designers who also do not have to have any qualifications or training in the UK - and it shows in the many badly designed domestic extensions and the like. It's time the whole of the construction industry in the UK was professionalised to raise standards. Indeed it is long overdue. Australia and New Zealand has had it for decades and I'm sure most other Europeans countries will have too. I'm a retired architect.

I don’t miss having boots packed in mud and crap. I quit site work as a chippy 10 years ago, it’s a young man’s sport and after 30 years of smashing myself to bits I chose a different career. I do miss being onsite with the lads though, cracking memories.

izzy have a look at the brick mate tape, then you wont have to dry run your bonding bricks, its a tape that is marked out in bricks blocks and courses.
I've seen them mate, I also use every 900 method, but I visually like to see it working 😊

Sad to hear about Drew however I always believe that everyone working on building sites should have a level of responsibility, at the job as well as at the home. Imagine being a surgeon and going on a bender the night before a major surgery? You best look for another labourer and teach them your working method.

Hahah! I’m 30 and was messing around doing handstands with my daughter, landed on the dogs head between the floor and my back and hurt my back and had to have week offf work! Happens to the best of us ! Sadly my gymnastics career is over before it’s started 😂

Yes izzy be careful with your bod. Working in the rain is a big no no!!!. It will come back to haunt you in later life. I know its messed up a lot of my brickie mates.

Anyone know how long those steel box section uprights will last before they rust away at ground level, as box section normally rusts from the inside ?
Thing like the empire state building would have been on untreated steel and built in the 30s so good for a hundred years plus I would say

Hi mate, respect to your work standards. I am in the process of building an extension at my house. I have installed the SHS posts( 90x90x10mm) for 3 sets of patio doors the same as posts in your vid. The brickie has said the brickwork should have a 10mm expansion foam between the brickwork and the steel posts to allow for movement. Also wall starters should be fixed to the posts to tie in the brickwork. Is this correct? As i did not notice either on the steels in your vid.
Can you kindly advise please. Drawings don't show any detail.
Hi mate, I couldn't advise on the foam on the steels, but yes to the screw ties on the steels. You basically need L brackets with some self tapping screws

I live up in West Yorkshire and have never seen extensions the size of what you build on a house. I don’t think our council would give planning permission .

Get them facings covered up too mate nightmare when wet dont forget bit of wd 40 on the blues or engineering bricks gets rid ofthem little smears cooking oil works too keep it up

how do the red bricks below ground level not 'rot' and degrade as the water travels in and up them?
They’re Engineering bricks, they resist moisture and damp course will prevent moisture rising above it and into the building.
They are very hard bricks, moisture does not cause issues with them
