- Join me as I react to every TOOL song in chronological order! Sorry for the less than ideal audio of the song and the random glitches in video, my editing program was crashing and it messed stuff up a bit.
#TOOL #Lateralus #Reaction #urbanshaman #Stoned
lateralus is so powerful your camera can’t contain it.
"SPIRAL OUT!"
I apologize for the less than perfect audio (song) quality and the random visual glitches in this one. When I was first listening to it it was normal audio from Spotify so don't worry, I got the full experience, but my editing program and computer were crashing and struggling to handle the pure epicness of this song I guess. I'm just happy I could salvage it honestly. My reactions to the rest of the album will be out on Thursday as long as my laptop doesn't blow up...
all good dude, been enjoying your vids, hope your laptop doesnt blow up. keep on spiraling out
don't stress it, that usually happens whenever somebody tries to record lateralus
I was wondering if you'd added auric flashes to describe your feelings in those moments, I then wondered if it was just me seeing it....Tool will do that to you!
You did a great job
I was checking if my speakers was all the way plugged in or my sound card had some weird setting on:) It's all good. What matters is that it sounds good on your end.
I literally laughed out loud when you said “I don’t know what just happened but I like the way it made me feel”
I love when people hear this song for the first time 😊
Tool should make t-shirts with that sentence printed on them. Truest truth ever.
@@LudvikM yes sir!!!! ❤️
I came here to say this exact thing, and to say listen to Rosetta Stoned, which I see you have already done!
Totally agree. Just takes you to a place where you want to stay
"I don't know what just happened, but I like the way it made me feel" - Tool
If he wants to catch up to you he will need to listen to the song on repeat, 24 hours a day, for about 2 years

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!
*runs around screaming like an excited teenage girl*
Favorite song.... like ever.
HOLY TRINITY NEXT
seeing genuine reactions to this band never gets old.
In 10th grade my English teacher wanted us to turn in the lyrics to our favorite song, and I submitted this song. I truly hope she read them!
You never get tired of this track. A true masterpiece of music. I still think Tool was at their pinnacle of creativity with this album. Not saying the rest aren't great, they are, but this album was imo their best of the best work.
Yup
Right from the beginning to the end,no other album hit me like this one.
When I'm burnt up/buried, all i want is this song playing very loudly when it happens
black then white are all I see..... I think he talks of moment when we are born - these are first colors we see and then later come other colors... He's pointing that gradual process of our perception of the world, saying that everything in life is process and to fully understand the nature of one's being we mustn't obstruct the process but to indulge in it with open minds. To ride the ever-expanding spiral of human curiosity and wonder....
This ^^^^
Yes it's called the tree of life. All we can do is branch out. More branches. Hence spiral out. A spiral never ends just like a tree will never stop growing branches. Unless it dies lol
Nicely said.
He is. I'm 14 and I've seen tool 4 times. Once front row. Coolest experience of my life. Tool has defiantly changed the way I look at life. My favorite band by far.
@@aidencosta6063 Im 46 and have 6 kids, somehow I feel like you have lived more then me already haha
Glad you got your editing problems sorted out. Been waiting like a stalking butler for this one.
lol
😂😂😂
Your face for the second half. Pure joy! This was rated the number 1 heavy metal song of the 21st century. Once you look up the background on this baby, your mind will literally spiral out.
There's not much I wouldn't trade to be able to hear this song for the first time again
I mean listening for the 1000th time is just as good
“Rhythmic mind-fucking”, beautifully put!
One of the best songs ever written in my opinion - instrumentally and lyrically. This song inspires me so much! To be a better person, to find ballance, to be bold and go head on to new challenges. The best boost when you are not feeling so ready for whatever reason. I'm glad you liked it
Been waiting for you to react to this one since I discovered your channel and it did not disappoint. Your reaction from 10:10 until the end of the song capture so well the feelings I STILL get when I hear this song, even after listening to it thousands of times over the past twenty years. Spiral out, friend!
Your smile during this tickled me. This isn’t just my favorite Tool song, but some days it’s my favorite song period. Absolutely beautiful piece of music.
Stoned while watching this bro, glad you're loving the tunes!
Me toooooooo!! Best video of my UA-cam binge
You know after like 15 years of listening to this song, I only JUST noticed the breathing sounds at the start.
Awesome video btw!
Something you missed as well, is the reference to the Fibonacci sequence with the lyrics:
Black
Then
White are
All I see
In my infancy
Red and yellow then came to be
Reaching out to me
Lets me see
( 1 1 2 3 5 8 [ 5 3 ] )
---
As below so above and beyond I imagine
Drawn beyond the lines of reason
Push the envelope
Watch it bend
( 13 8 5 3 )
Just lyrical genius
I wish I could go back and listen to this song for the first time again...one of their best...and absolutely amazing live!
I'm not a huge Tool fan, but I think this album is a masterpiece. Totally holds up yrs later
"Wow. I don't know what just happened, but I like the way it made me feel."
Don't worry., that's a common reaction when listening to Tool. Excellent reaction!
Just as many have said, this is my favorite Tool song. Mega chill bumps since it's release. I got to see this live and that was the one song I had hoped to see Live. Just Google spirals and the Fibonacci sequence. The syllables in some of these lyrics follow that and then obviously the whole spiral thing ties together. This song means alot but I've always just taken that you need to experience new things, live a little. See what happens kinda thing. Anytime I'm nervous about change or anything, I just think of this song and it kinda motivates me to just go with it and experience whatever
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is TOOL, this track was written around the Fibonacci sequence, it's a hypnotic mind F for sure. Keep going
Rhythmic mindfucking is Tools signature move
The look on your face when Danny hit the gong is priceless.
I keep mentioning to reactors to watch the drum cam of that moment. Flawless stick work 🤘

Back around 2004, I had never heard of Tool. I play guitar and was reading a magazine with an Adam Jones interview. They described the music so interestingly that I decided to check them out and this was the first Tool song I ever listened to...I had no idea that music could be...This!! It's still my favorite song ever written and it might very well be the pinnacle of music period. I get goosebumps, a clenched throat and a bit teary every time I here this song and not just from the music but also the incredible lyrics (which I discovered much later...I'm a music guy and I always listen to Maynard's voice as another instrument first and foremost). Tool didn't just knock this out of the park, they knocked it out of the galaxy....spiral out!!
This song will be giving me goosebumps till the day I die.
Joy joy joy! That's me watching and thoroughly enjoying your mind blowing journey with Tool!
We’ve all had that same grin plastered over our faces at some stage.
I've always thought that TOOL doesn't have any bad songs, they are all extraordinary, but Lateralus is something else. It is simply a work of art, from the musical structure it has to the lyrics.
The whole song is made based on the mathematical concept of the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio, which is why it makes so much reference to the spiral out.
It is simply a gem. My favorite song!
The Auditore Sequence?
If you listen to the rhythm of which Maynard had wrote the lyrics...you’ll realize that it’s the Fibonacci sequence, or the creation sequence. The mans a pure genius in my opinion.
I wish everyone would listen to this the way you just did man. I know there's other bands out there that do prog but Tool is life changing in a way no other band will ever do for me.
The first verse syllable structure follows the Fibonacci sequence...:
Black
And
White are
All i see
In my infancy
Red and yellow then came to be
Loving the series and can't wait for you to get to some of the stuff coming up, but you should check out this song's connection to the Fibonacci sequence as well. Pretty crazy stuff.
I didn't get too far into the comments but this song is written in the timing of fibonicci sequence ( I'm aware I can't spell the word lol) , but look up lateralis and fibb sequence video. It explains the math of this song and its based on life and how it is mathematically built. Sorry that's the best I can explain it
That SMILE from ear to ear during the outro haha fucking great!
This is so fun to watch/listen along with you. Thanks for the content!
Welp guess I'll be listening to tool again on my commute
If I ever need a few mins to take a break from life this is my escape song. Sometimes I listen to fall asleep too. Glad you enjoyed it man
This is their magnum opus, imo
I this whole fear incolum is their magnum opus
i feel like thats become 7empest for me. truly epic. i saw it live too so yeah hah
One of my Top 5 Tool Songs for sure! I thought the glitching was part of creative editing on your part! Lyrics are also very deep!
Haha yes yes, let’s go with that 😂😁
This one always gets me emotionally and teary eyed. I love it!
It's a happy accident that your editing software glitched, because, while it compresses Adam's guitars, it also reveals and emphasizes the driving rhythm and production choices that may be obscured otherwise. The spread of the Danny's toms across the headphones headspace and the thump of the bass drum is so impressive. And Justin is a glue that really holds every single song together.
And the wobbling-thrum of the intro ("rhythmic mind-fucking") is really fun. I've replayed the intro several times.
Reflection is probably my favorite current TOOL song. Should be coming up soon. There are some gorgeous lyrics and feelings from that song, but I think the song as a whole has grown on me over the years after relistening. For all I know you may not appreciate it the first time around.
The permanent grin at the end says it all. Spiral out!
The visual glitches during the crescendo was on point..lol
It looked like your aura exploding color from your 3rd eye...spiral out bro.
In the middle section (after the break) danny's playing 5/8 while the whole band stays in 6/8, displacing the down beat all over hahaha cheers from Argentina
Well articulate, its awesome seeing you get that rush from hearing this music, thank you for appreciating tool.🖖
A true masterpiece, possibly the best song ever written imo. Never gets old.
Love your feelings about this song, one of my favourites of all time. The instrumentation, the musicianship, the messages, meaning, symbolism, beauty of the transitions. Great analysis as always man keep it up! I think you'll enjoy the next.
Not sure if you're aware of this fact about Lateralus, that it was written according to the Fibonacci Sequence... check into that, it'll blow your mind 🤘
this song proved to me that there is a lot of power in numbers/math...it's a great song...it's means a lot to many people...why?...the thought behind it...how it was constructed...all of these things are important when creating anything. Harmony in the numbers...built on truth and passion.
"Black then white are all I see in my infancy \ Red and yellow then came to be"
That's actually how languages developed across the world - the first words describing colors were the words for "black" and "white", describing the day-night cycle, then words for "red" and "yellow", describing ripe fruit, dangerous animals, blood and maybe urine.
lovely to see that expression of joy on your face :)
I've been finding it oddly pleasing to see a HD video close-up of your face while you listen to tool. You have a good face for this. I had hair like yours at your age, but then I lost it all. Anyway, please continue.
4am? That's cool, I didn't wanna sleep anyways.
EDIT: This song is probably the pinnacle of human achievement, tbh.
Just found your channel. I'm really enjoying the content. Thank you.
The stoned, bobbing head trying to decide which beat to follow....classic !
FINALLY made it here!
Black, White, Yellow and Red describe the 4 levels of spiritual transmutation in the Hermetic tradition. Also known as nigredo, albedo, citrinitas and rubedo. He makes another reference to this when he quotes the Emerald Tablets of Hermes Trismegistus. "As above, so below" These are levels of ones Magnum Opus (their Great Work)
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
I weep like a widow from the powerful emotions of this masterpiece!
The amazing thing to me, with TOOLs whole "Spiral" theory/idea/philosophy is that it comes from and was originated by Black Sabbath, 1 of TOOLs main influences and their own masterpiece of a song "The Spiral Architect". Just like on Salival how TOOL is able to take other bands songs and make them their own. But the spiral out philosophy just makes me love and appreciate both bands rhat much more.
Alright Urban Shaman, if you want the quickest and most concise way to break this song down, watch a video by the UA-cam channel Polyphonic, called The Mathematics of Lateralus. It explains most of what you need to know about this song, and the magic behind it
how's your third eye doing after this one? i was waiting in anticipation for this particular song.
This song is a journey 🤗🤘
This song is as close to perfection as anything could hope to be
Just one of the few perfect songs ever written.
This song is their magnum opus, as another guy said. This song made me a fan of this band. It has masterful lyrics and composition. How the song is built upon fibonacci numbers is so fascinating and how he references the spiral in the lyrics. Because that's what life and the universe is built upon. And the message that life and everything around us is infact divine in itself and that we should live in the moment and appreciate that we are here and embrace the random, not fear it. It's about how if you think too much you lose touch with your intuition, emotional and spiritual side. We should embrace it to the end and embrace whatever comes in both this life and whatever comes after.
I think that's an incredible message for me personally because when life gets hard and I feel like ending it I just put this album on. I'm not a fan of everything Tool as done, I'm not a superfan of their earlier works. But this album I want to put up there among the greatest.
I feel like this song will be studied for hundreds of years into the future. Just an absolute epic song.
Oooooooooooooh dam. Slippn n slidn. Ive probably listened to this song 10000 times.
I'm glad you read lyrics. I'd read them b4 listening, tho, so you get an idea of what's going on in the song/don't feel so blind hearing it 1st time
Best song ever. Period.
I am so excited to watch your journey!
I wonder how you’ll react to wings for marie 1&2? Will the drumming on the fear inoculum album make you giggle with delight? 🤔 🤓
Man for whatever reason, your audio being off a little allowed me to hear this song differently, and I loved it!
Still so much greatness ahead of you on this album. And then of course 10,000 Days and Fear Innuculjum.
This song is so inspiring
Bro it blows my mind that you are just now hearing Tool.
Disposition, Reflection and Triad are a trio and I'd like to see how you react to that on a tab of acid.
Excellent reaction!
Keep going.... ✌🏼
Boy oh boy, aren’t you in for a ride on the next track/tracks. Shits getting real!
🤘😎🤘 buckle up buddy!
And now the Grand-daddy of all TOOL songs. Hey, I know it's not from their first album, but this song was written before time itself
I could never focus on lyrics during my first listening to this but if you can do it without affecting your listening experience.then go for it.. I like hearing your take on the lyrics but the main reason I watch is to see your reaction to hearing the music of Tool for the first time. I am envious. Enjoy the journey.
I actually agree 100%, that’s why I was somewhat surprised and happy I caught at least some of them as I listened, usually I’m not very good with that 😅😂
Yes i been waiting for the next one ... aka the holy trinity
The colors of the magician.
I selected this so fast
You can tell he’s off and gone when the pausing ceases to exist. ✌️👊
Absolutely a masterpiece!!!!
Goosebumps... every. damn. time
"WOW." Yes my guy, that is what you say the first time you hear Lateralus.
From really really good to...[inhales] reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally good!
Excellent. Glad your doing th next three together. Question: what re the little single frame blips your cutting into this video? Haven’t noticed before. Are you trying some subliminal stuff? Ha!
hahaha no my editing program/laptop were crashing or overloading as I tried to edit and upload it, I have no idea why but it caused the audio to degrade a bit and those weird blips to occur
Cool addition 😄
You have to experience them live, 5 grams of shrooms. So amazing! Ride the spiral till the end!
I need Tool to enjoy drugs joke
Maybe you shouldn't take 5 grams on the concert though. At that point you're not at the concert anymore lmao
Maybe you shouldn't take 5 grams on the concert though. At that point you're not at the concert anymore lmao
Makes me want to take some acid/shrooms and listen to this album. I've never done that actually.
@@thewildhealer541 Never done what? Taken psychs or listened to them on psychs?
I'm sure it's been said, but you better be listening to Disposition, Reflection and Triad together.
Yeah, definitely, last 3 gotta be listened to together.
I bet he did, but hope he releases them separately.
I don't see any comments mentioning the Fibonacci sequence in this song.
Black and white are the first things we see. But before that, the first thing we ever hear is a heart beat.
“ rhythmic mind fucking “ 😂 you’re not wrong
10:38 he saw the spiral
That was amazing bro you turned red lateralus hits different 😂😂😂
Check this out. If the average listener tries to follow the rhythm of the music during the chorus, they will quickly find themselves over thinking and over analyzing it and they will lose track and miss out on just enjoying it but they can actually do that much easier if they listen to the rhythm of the lyrics and focus on the words. Then it all comes together. Just thought that was cool.
