I would like to thank the students of the Dave School for a great effort in representing the Battletech Universe. After the earlier critiques, I just know they can make a Film Festival candidate video the next time. Great Job!!!
Amazing CG work! I really love watching mechwarrior fan films just to see have people view combat in the battletech universe. Most people only have mech vs mech but I like how this has mechs, tanks and aircraft.
That minigun is the AC/20 of the Atlas AS7-D variant. The classic Atlas AS7-D mounts an AC/20 in its right torso but in the new design/upgrade it is a Rotary AC/20 and it is mounted on the left hand. for the sole purpose it retatins its reputation to be intimidating to its foes. That new autocannon works like an Ultra AC but instead of only a double burst in a single fire, it can do triple, quad, so on and so fourth.
@VazzaPrime True, but some clans do not let freebirths hold rank above Star Captian, and others do not let them pass Mechwarrior. Khan Phelan Kell/Ward was an execption. Kerensky does not look like she is old enough to be Solhama, and she is a Galaxy Commander. Has the 32nd Centry changed so much?
That Atlas there was firing his Rotary Autocannon for about 3-4 seconds. I hold my RAC triggers down for 5 seconds max. In case you don't notice, 5-6 seconds is no problem for machineguns, but RACs use larger caliber ammunition, so the chances of a jam are higher. Overheating is no problem: Even modern .50cals take a minute or more of continuous fire w/o reloading to overheat.
@gdiforeman In the novel "Call to Arm." she does piloted a modified Ryoko II with Jump jet pod, but switch to a new battlemech when she abandon the Steel Wolf to be a mercenary, Wolf Hunter. In the "Wolf Hunter" novel she switch to a medium, Mongrel, then switch to the Savage Wolf(4th generation timber wolf) which is shown on the video.
In the game, no, but it is possible in a Battletech story. Like if that round manage to damage the missile tube, and the auto-load system. Where the warhead somehow is armed by the impact, which also force a reload to cause a explosion in the storage.
Yeah I noticed all the contractions being used by the clanners too. It's unfortunate but to be expected from a "class project". I personally found it quite entertaining. Some of the combat was pretty fun. Like that scene you mentioned and that one where the Battlemaster threw the Jackalope into the other one.
Well, at this point Anastasia is acting quite mercenary. She's spent extended time with inner sphere inhabitants, and has even spent time incognito as a spheroid warrior. So it makes sense that she at least uses contractions.
hmm variants is another way of calling those model number of a certain mech. these variants in mechs started since it was released back in the 80's. there is a site or the only site left for classic battletech which has the tech readout of most if not all of the mechs (including design history) in the classic battletech universe from 2750 - 3066. its a fan site i guess and all of the info about the battletech universe are there, also it is from fasa studio. :)
I know what you mean. I loved the old Mad Cat design. Same with the Vulture/Mad Dog version that had the twin laser cannons on the arms. I also hate what they did to the Atlas. I miss the old skull-head.
@obliviousfafnir01 You forget the Wolf Hunters aren't clan anymore. Anastasia herself goes out of her way to adopt inner sphere language and mannerisms in order to make herself more than just a clanner.
I'm not entirely familiar with Clan pilots on the battlefield, but wouldn't they show panic if a battlemaster was ripping their gun and using it too impale them?
Pretty cool for a student special effect project. I liked alot of moments in this film... I am not a fan of Wizkids or their line of mechwarrior but I can respect this film. Nice.
They did not use the original that is made for the year before 3100. This new atlas is made after 3100 and was commission by the Republic of The Sphere for their Paladin. The model is base on the mechwarrior: Darkage, instead of the classic. The Republican Atlas appear to has a Rotary AC5 in the RA, LRM20 in RT, SRM6 and 2 Med Laser in LT and 2 Med Laser in LA. Most likely it has a C^3Master to help commutate with other forces...and targeting computer also.
The Wolf Hunters are a merc unit attached to the Wolf Dragoons. They have been in the Inner Sphere for years and have absorbed qualified freebirth warriors who have corrupted the Trueborn clanners language.
Why dont they make movies like these. BattleTech has such a rich and wonderful universe. It's history spans millenia and yet a good writer can make a good story during any one of the eras in this universe. The technology is here to make these mechs look good. It would be cool if someone made a feature movie about early clan invasion and when all seems lost (Battle of Luthrin) The mercinaries from House Davion come in and shows that when banded together the Inner Sphere can beat the Clans.
@PaintingPointman yes it has, The female is Anastasia Kernsky, from Arc-Royal, so she is a former wolf in exile. the year the video take place is 3160-70. Clan wolf has mass migrate tot he border between Steiner and Free world league...think of the Commonwealth finally be sandwich by both wolf. Clan smoke jaguar is not annihilated, but secretly revive by Master Paul. petty much the dark age is nothing but the new 5th succession war.
Mechwarrior Living Legends is the way forward...hopefully that game will give some movie studio the incentive to make a movie (preferably a trilogy involving Operation Bulldog and TFS).
There were some knock downs but not too many "one shot kills". Keep in mind, the only modern main battle tank that can not be killed with one shot is the M-1 Abrams, perhaps the big Brit tank and the Israeli Merkeva also. All others can be taken out with one shot.
clan long rage missile is about 1400m i made model kits and played video game mechwarrior 2 3 4 5 ;daishi got a big gun with 800m range and evry thing was interesting about duality of design only between chicken and human walkers look : now i make (and released a video game (can be see on my channel) with 2 4 6 leged walking bots having this sort of ranges :a tabletop for realistic ranges infantry defeated heavy units with personnal nukes but the area of game was too much little by 3m * 4m
this waht they made instead of a two hour official mechwarrior movie since it got cancelled =( i had heard about that they had some college students make a 5 min movie)
Not bad. Good visuals, has the makings of a series I would like to see. Your Clansmen, with the exception of Kerensky sounded mostly like freeborn so I think your dialogue could have used some more research. I am not a fan of the Dark Age series or MechWarrior, but still this is not bad.
Yeah. Even with a Clan Ultra RAC20, the damage would not be all too lethal to kill within 5-6 seconds. It would have jammed by then... Found her BattleMech name. It's the Savage Wolf.
No. Kerensky is a Clan Bloodname. Each Bloodname originates from the surnames of the warriors whom followed Alexander Kerensky into exile. Each Clan has a few Bloodnames, and these are given out to only 25 of their best trained warriors in Trials. The Wolves fragmented into the Wolves-in-exile and the Wolves. Then the Wolves divided further into the Steel Wolves and Wolf Hunters. Yes, the Wolf Hunters are not original Clanners, but mercenary Clanners.
Clanners speaking with contractions? Never happenned! .............. No, seriously, awesome. It's just too bad we can't convince anyone to make a feature length movie.
looks like her new madcat to me. I think the Atlas' RAC might be just a touch bigger than the old RAC 5 you meet in MW4 mercs and should come under the heading of "BFG" (Big ***off gun) but yeah, a stock Atlas sucks. I'd put my money on me in the Timby too, even an old school one like it appeareared to be.
You know, if this was something in theaters, I would be unhappy, but it was a fan-made work, and I have to say it's well-done. Had a big-budget firm picked this up and put it in Hollywood, it would be worse than Dragonball: Evolution (yeah, I went there). So, bravo, guys. If a movie is ever done, it needs to be done by fans, not Hollywood big wigs. Also @born2fly145, it was better than most of the crap coming out of SyFy, as far as the "original movies."
The noticeable things I noticed that were inconsistent with this video, it's obvious they used a Blue screen, and there is *alot* of blue bleed on some of the actors, this is unfortunate and could of been avoided if they used a green-screen with better lighting set up.
@DroehnIng Often when it comes down to it at the end of the day, doesn't matter how good you are at 3D or After Effects or Final Cut. If your not good at art in general (understand the behavior of light, the colour table, etc) or have training in animation traditionally (claymation, cell-based etc) then your work will not look professional no matter how much time or effort is put into it. And by that it won't look realistic or look to follow a particular style.
the wolf hunter are a mercenary, they are once steel wolf, but they evolving into a new breed of wolf by Anastasia Kerensky. This kind of wolf following a new path set by her, which is un-clan like. So everyone can join her Wolf hunter, if they prove they have what it take to be wolves instead of a lone wolf. Oh the battle take place around 3135, not 3055, so this is the Dark Age.
The mechs, vehicles 3D models look way too clean, when texturing keep in mind the environment and the material, chipped paint etc even if it's stainless makes it more real. And there is a general lack of soft lighting shadows, shadows are *hard* to do realistically, especially when using soft lighting which is more realistic as apposed to ray-traced. Some scenes had perfect shadow contrasts but nasty inconsistencies during animation such as shadows just disappearing rather then shrinking.
I would like to thank the students of the Dave School for a great effort in representing the Battletech Universe. After the earlier critiques, I just know they can make a Film Festival candidate video the next time. Great Job!!!
Well done a great start, some great elements here to inspire others. Great job I am glad they finished this project.
Amazing CG work! I really love watching mechwarrior fan films just to see have people view combat in the battletech universe. Most people only have mech vs mech but I like how this has mechs, tanks and aircraft.
Coming back after 11 years, still a fun watch.
And thank YOU for linking this one, Steinerman1. It's much appreciated.
Definitely would go to the theater for a full length movie based on this
Now That is seriously great work. Dave's School hit's it out of the park again.
That minigun is the AC/20 of the Atlas AS7-D variant. That new autocannon works like an Ultra AC but instead of only a double burst in a single fire, it can do triple, quad, so on and so fourth.
So awesome. It's nice to see a good BT short film finally made.

Overheating is no problem: Even modern .50cals take a minute or more of continuous fire w/o reloading to overheat.
This was awesome! was there any more?
Would be an awesome series i think with a little refinement!
@gdiforeman In the novel "Call to Arm." she does piloted a modified Ryoko II with Jump jet pod, but switch to a new battlemech when she abandon the Steel Wolf to be a mercenary, Wolf Hunter.
In the "Wolf Hunter" novel she switch to a medium, Mongrel, then switch to the Savage Wolf(4th generation timber wolf) which is shown on the video.

i love this great job to all apart of the class
Found this video doing research on MekTek. Awesome!
when the hell did variants come into all of this? i just played all the comp games, when the mechs didn't need to look like the terminator.
pretty dam good for a student project.
Very good video but what is up with the Clanners using contractions.
Excellent use of music and voice-over.
No. Mini guns are hand held gatline cannons for infintry, while a gun like the atlas's is a regular gatline like the one on a A-10 Thunderbolt.
Darn good job. Just to give us fans something to look at. Thank you.
This was made by a class 4 years ago. Comparing to what we're capable of doing in 2011 isn't fair.
The actor playing the part of Kerensky actually pulls off the part quite well.
niiiiiiiiiiice - loved seeing the battlemaster
Respect from a fellow mech fan
finally done. nice. an intresting storytie in. thanks for sharing.
Well, at this point Anastasia is acting quite mercenary. She's spent extended time with inner sphere inhabitants, and has even spent time incognito as a spheroid warrior. So it makes sense that she at least uses contractions.

Where can I get the original hi-res version of this? o.O
It's a Mad Cat/Timber Wolf, I believe the MK.4 version.
I know what you mean. I loved the old Mad Cat design. Same with the Vulture/Mad Dog version that had the twin laser cannons on the arms.
I also hate what they did to the Atlas. I miss the old skull-head.
why can't i see this vid at the dave's school website?
Nice! Where'd you find it?
@obliviousfafnir01 You forget the Wolf Hunters aren't clan anymore. Anastasia herself goes out of her way to adopt inner sphere language and mannerisms in order to make herself more than just a clanner.
I'm not entirely familiar with Clan pilots on the battlefield, but wouldn't they show panic if a battlemaster was ripping their gun and using it too impale them?
nice to see fellow MW buddies here.
happy gaming!
- "oliverb" & "atc_envoy"
did he not hold it in his hand...?
@Naenphus, so we are in agreement then? excellent.
Damn! Great job!
Pretty cool for a student special effect project. I liked alot of moments in this film... I am not a fan of Wizkids or their line of mechwarrior but I can respect this film. Nice.
The Clanners are using Contractions, something the Clans practically abandoned since they left the Inner Sphere.
Nice movie, despict some little animation error or sfx, i's really great for an amateur movie and more than that, a student project! Great Job!
not sure if I misunderstood you. but there is a mercenary group called the "Wolf Hunters", led by a bloodnamed clan warrior. Anastasia Kerensky.
SWEET!!!! Thanks again Steinerman1 for the link!
They did not use the original that is made for the year before 3100. This new atlas is made after 3100 and was commission by the Republic of The Sphere for their Paladin. This is pretty sweet lol, nice work
I´ve seen this video many times. Congrats to the (former) students
VERY WELL DONE!
The Wolf Hunters are a merc unit attached to the Wolf Dragoons. They have been in the Inner Sphere for years and have absorbed qualified freebirth warriors who have corrupted the Trueborn clanners language.
Nice to see some Dark Age action!
very nice, keep up the good work.
Nice, about time!!
Nice Atlas II heehee
This deserves an Oscar
long live Mechwarrior!
Paladin Mandela, he's alright...
barely 240 pp?
it still looks awesome :D
amazing wow amazing i with they made this stuff for cinema

To bad its Short!!!
they need to make a Bigger movie man :P this one is just sweet to look at, even for a low buget movey this one still rocks
cool video. more pls :)

Found her BattleMech name. It's the Savage Wolf.
Well, Anastasia's men depart more from Clan customs than most others do. The Wolves in general were known for informality anyway.
See, if students could do this, why is there not a major Hollywood production company doing a Mechwarrior movie??? Imagine how it would go....
But they were from Clan Wolf, so they shouldn't be using contractions.
Given her attitude in the books, one might expect Anastasia to use contractions. The other Clanners, however...
I believe the quad was a Barghast.
good job i liked it
God damn the Mad Cat MK IV is sexy. (the mech Anastasia Kerensky was driving)
It would have made a very good mechwarrior full length movie lol
No. Kerensky is a Clan Bloodname. Each Bloodname originates from the surnames of the warriors whom followed Alexander Kerensky into exile. Each Clan has a few Bloodnames, and these are given out to only 25 of their best trained warriors in Trials.

yes! when you think about it it does!
@MrJdog82 not only that, but some times the clanners used contractions, they hate contractions. They view them as vulgar.
Clanners speaking with contractions? Never happenned! .............. No, seriously, awesome. It's just too bad we can't convince anyone to make a feature length movie.

movie, i want to see a movie, with all the mechs and shit!
UAC20 is badass.
DE LA PUTA MADRE... Good work of the people of DAVE SCHOOL
Just let hollywood take over and let a big-shot movie director like Roland Emmerich take control of the film. Maybe then fans will be happy.
the jihad may have made the clanners a wee bit sloppy eh?
yea the red color and the robotic like schul.... it is aswome!!!!!!!
WTF did that atlas have a MINIGUN??
New Dark age Design. Mangonel, primary weapons are a pair of gauss rifles.
No, that was definitely a large gun.
The mechs, vehicles 3D models look way too clean, when texturing keep in mind the environment and the material, chipped paint etc even if it's stainless makes it more real. That is Gatling, not gatline. Named for the man who invented it during the American Civil War.
