    Cheers for the video mate, there are so many options in preparing tiles before engraving but i haven't tried titanium dioxide myself yet !!!
    I usually prepare my tiles using metal protective spray paint (very hard finish), but like you say the smells can be volatile, i spray mine outside but that can attract any micro fibres plus insects floating about in the air - I'm not looking to change my own methods but working on any other method to achieve different or quicker results is always worth taking on board 👍 i've just ordered some titanium dioxide so i will give that a try 2morro, .... i spray 4 or 5 different colours depending on the outcome i want - usually - 2 light coats white, 2 light grey, 2 darker grey, 2 silver (sometimes) & 2 black - leave to harden for 4 or more days before engraving, also depending on the age of the photos i use i occassionaly like to spray one light coat of clear laquer after it's been engraved & sat for a few hours, what will happen is that the laquer will be rejected in places & form what i deem as giving the image an antiquated look, the photos i used in those experiments were originals from as far back as 1906 so it's a nice finishing touch on some of them... 😁👍

    Hi. What was the purpose of using some detergent? You said it's "fairy" liquid? Sorry, im new to this

      Detergent helps to break surface tension and stop powder from sticking together and slow them down from sinking to the bottom etc. just a drop or two

    There is limited research on the side effects of titanium dioxide, and it largely depends on the route of access (2Trusted Source, 7Trusted Source, 15Trusted Source):
    Oral consumption. There are no known side effects.
    Eyes. The compound may cause minor irritation.
    Inhalation. Breathing in titanium dioxide dust has been linked to lung cancer in animal studies.
    Skin. It may cause minor irritation.
    Most side effects are related to inhalation of titanium dioxide dust. Therefore, there are industry standards in place to limit exposure (19Trusted Source).

    How do you maintain your foam brushes? I've used a similar mixture and at first it seemed to work well when I put the first coat down but then after drying the second coat had streaks and I noticed that after drying the brush had small chunks in it from the dried glue/TiO2. Next time I tried cleaning out the brush but it didn't clean very well.

      Warm soapy water after every use. I find 1 layer works the best when applied carefully

  • @stanmiller3676
    @stanmiller3676 7 місяців тому +1

    I am trying your new technique. My problem is as soon as I apply it to the tile, it pulls back and exposes the shiny tile. Question... How much soap, you said a drop but cut the video when putting it in. I really like this method and wish I could send a picture but I guess the question is how many drops of detergent.

    • @BCreviews
      @BCreviews  7 місяців тому

      I tried with it without and it does not make any difference in terms of droplet pull back together instead of spread out on the tiles. That only happens when I was testing ratio of water to glue. When it is too thin or too much water it does not like to stick to the tile.

    • @BCreviews
      @BCreviews  7 місяців тому

      Utter failure, sponge brush and sponge roller does not work well with suspension. Best way is fine hair brush or silicon brush. Air brush would be perfect with no streaks

  • @youmbgtube

    Thanks for the video. I have been working with TiO2 for some time because it's the only coating to give me nice blacks on my LM3 10w. Although, I did just get a 5.5W module for the LM3. I have tried many methods. Best was with an Iwata airbrush but that produced too much fog in my garage/shop. I went to a nice misting spray bottle and the results are good but again too messy. For both I use 3:1 of IPA: TiO2 by weight. I see a few are using 1:3:1 of TiO2:H2O:PVA-glue. I tried a mix close to this but get streaking with the foam brush. Maybe I'll try you mix ratio and try again.
    I also tried a small foam paint roller. It was a failure because it seemed to suck up too much coating and drip all over. When you try a roller let us know the results. - Thanks
    Also, if possible can you list the source or manufacture of the brush & roller you use?

    • @BCreviews
      @BCreviews  8 місяців тому

      No luck with any roller and brush made of foam. I think the water and PVA get sucked up by the foam and the powder left making a mess on the tile. Best is fine hair brush and just using the tip to spread it around. In summer I will go back to using spray and solvent.

    • @youmbgtube
      @youmbgtube 8 місяців тому

      @@BCreviews sounds like similar results that I have had. I have never had luck painting/finishing anything with foam either. Like I said I had great results with an air brush but was close to 30psi so had lots of bounce back spray that created a fog. With the airbrush my tile is pretty vertical maybe if I lay it down more it will be cleaner.

    Awesome work my friend, now you can say you know me personally :P first i have to say protect your eyes from your pecker dude, we dont need great talent getting any sort of injury from their peckers. Its interesting how the anomaly was in the same place on both tiles, the only thing i can see that may be something to look into is at 4:03 while youre applying the coating you apply 2 full sponge width and then a spreading stroke using about 3/4 of the sponge. I might be way off but this look around about the area of your streak, if the pressure was angled or slightly off this may have caused your streak. I wonder if using the same foam but cut at the exact size of the tile might help prevent this issue. I think the foam is quite cheap to also buy in bulk. Rgds Matthew Ullman

      I know the internet is already full of video showing NWT with lasers but I am more interested in a repeatable method for everyone. For hobby we can spend time and accept batch of failures but for small trader and users like me who may want to make some money toward our hobby it needs to be repeatable and low failure rate. Hopefully people can appreciate that not all online content is perfect life of other DIY person as it is an art at the moment. If it is easy then it is a lie 😂 just like those filters the youngsters uses nowadays

      @@LarryDMitchell I've had best results with my 10W 450nm diode laser using spray bottle. I tried foam brushes and they work ok but I can't get an even coating without brush marks unless I use a foam brush at least as wide as the tile and even then I found it tricky.
      I currently use ipa and TiO2 powder with a spray bottle and add a little food colouring, glycerine and windshield washer concentrate to get the best results and nice even coating that I'm quite happy with. I tried using glue and it's nice to not have to be so careful while handling the tile but I found it foams up too much when mixing and I gave up on the idea for now.

    I just did a test using the LP4 and TiO2 on ceramic tiles. But instead of using the 460 nm I used the 1064 nm at 100% power, 90% depth, 4k and multiple passes. After the first pass instead of being black it looked like tarnished silver. A couple more passes and it looks like chrome!

    • @BCreviews
      @BCreviews  5 місяців тому

      could be a nice side effect of using the 1064, my image of the girl in this video using 1064 is silver ish instead of black hence I use 450nm for the rest of my projects.

      @@BCreviews Now we can laser metal onto ceramic tiles. Use both lasers and get a 3 color tile. Gonna do some tests to see if I have more coats of TiO2 if it will polish up and look like a mirror. If it works then I'll be able to use the black reaction as lines and use the metal reaction as filler. I'll post successful results on the community section of the LP4 Design Studio app.
