    I feel like the emotional detachment between Holland's Parker and the villains in this movie was an intentional choice, because it shows that Spider-Man doesn't necessarily need skin in the game to do the right thing, he just does it.

    • @Elwaves2925

      @brandon_youtube 2 роки тому +4

      Yep definitely intentional. Or skin in the game is him caring. That’s a greater show of heroism. I get Marc’s point but the writers wrote the hell out of the movie to make all the weird Sony stuff work I.e “I fell into a tank of eels”, “I fell into a hadron collider”.
      Also, theoretically, vulture and mysterio were villains because of Tony stark and Peter gets caught up in it. It feels like these three “home” films had a deliberate theme.

    Clint knowing about Yelena didn't ever feel like a retcon to me. Natasha and Clint have ALWAYS been portrayed as extremely close friends, heck, Clint was gearing up to name his new child after her in Age of Ultron. That's a CLOSE friend.
    I'd imagine Clint knew about Yelena, Nat's "family" and the entire Ohio mission Natasha was part of for years before this, lets not forget Loki tells us in Avengers that Clint knows EVERYTHING about Natasha's past, because she had told him when she defected, so I doubt she'd be very selective with her sharing, he'd know about this too.
    And he probably was told about how they had met up again between the events of Black Widow and Infinity War, they even might have discussed it in Endgame either while travelling in space to get the Soul Stone.

    If you think about it, with what Peter learnt from Tony in Homecoming and from Mysterio in Far From Home and add that to Aunt May's death, the great power great responsibility line and the hand made Spiderman suit at the end of No Way Home then this trilogy has essentially been one giant origin story.

    The problem with using Vulture or Mysterio in NWH is that their issues were very human. They broke under very human circumstances eg jealousy, poverty, anger, etc... you cannot fix human. The other villians had superhuman issues you can physically fix. Peter Parker is not a psychologist.

    The point of him not having his own villain was to build character. They weren’t his problem… it made sense just to send them back but he had to realize that helping people is not a choice, it’s a responsibility he has because he has the power to do so… and then to have May be killed by one and things get more personal than ever before as a result of his actions, he must find a place within him that pushes through the guilt and regret and maintain his resolve . Having his villains kill may wouldn’t have hit him as hard or helped to define his character as much

      I see what you mean. I feel like a lot of MCU villains don't need to be "fixed" because some of them are written to have legit grievances and critiques against the heroes. If anything, maybe they just need therapy and perspective lol
      Vulture, Killmonger, Loki, Mysterio, and even Thanos had certain legit complaints about humanity like profiting off of war, violence, suffering, and subjugation. i think Marc's comments at approx 37mins about the show being insular are fair, but the dialogue also name dropped in both instances, which would have created intrigue with the viewer. Clint says "that's who I've been worried about this whole time, the Kingpin" and in the Yollena scene, he says "someone hired a black widow" which should connect the viewer to the gravitas of the person being of a similar capability to Natasha. @@Michael-mu5wg It seems everyone is missing an obvious point that is not unique to Mark. He is a writer who is always thinking of how he can do it different or better. To put it another way, how many times have we heard a singer sing another artists song thinking their version is better? Happens all the time with very different results. It's what creative people do. I don't know why some of you take Marc's writing opinions so personally. It's like you are offended a smart guy thinking he is smart. I think Marc had a point about the disconnect between Peter and the villains. However, given that this spiderman trilogy is really an origin story for spiderman, it make sense to me that Peter would be extremely idealistic about what a hero would be and niave enough to think that saving the day is as simple as fixing/curing the villains. Once, Peter has to confront his youthful naivete and realize being a hero is more nuanced and complicated, the audience can truly feel/appreciate the gravity of Peter's dilemma and how heroic it is to choose hard path of right, over the ease of revenge in the name of justifiable anger. Not only that but to make that choice knowing it will long, narrow and lonely path. So, ultimately I think you need that time hanging out with those villans to feel like Peter had real growth.

    • @wholelottastairway8
      @wholelottastairway8 2 роки тому +1

      Except that's what he was supposed to have learned from the last movie, where he trusts Mysterio, and realizes he shouldn't have. And I think everything you used to explain that makes no sense. Whoever thinks Peter actually made sacrifice in this movie hasn't sacrificed anything. This movie did nothing except wipe out his MCU continuity while soft rebooting him into a different Spider-Man. Most people aren't even friends after high school. Peter just invited enemies over who he has no idea who they are, easily trusts them, has his aunt may killed, then has Strange reverse everything because he feels like an idiot. That's the farthest thing, and the gravity of Peter's situation? What gravity? A villain from another universe killed his aunt. Go to another universe, get another aunt may, she clearly exists in other realities. There are zero stakes in this movie, and who really gives a shit about ned leeds becoming a villain or even him and MJ reuniting. I'd rather see him make friends with Harry and find Gwen or actual Mary Jane.

      @@wholelottastairway8 well I disagree with your disagreement to the original post. I’d say he doesn’t learn that lesson from Mysterio. I’d say that the sacrifice he makes in the the end is a real sacrifice and as someone who’s made sacrifice before that Peter’s sacrifice was a genuine sacrifice. So I reject your notion that the original post explanation makes no sense. SPOILERS...
    Commenting on Marc's idea to call on the other multiverse Aunt Mays..
    None of those Aunt Mays they could have brought in would have had a personal connection with Tom Holland's Spiderman. That would have been a fan service for fans but not have an impact on the character of Tom Holland's Spiderman.
    It would have been exactly like in Rise of Skywalker when Lando tells Poe the calvary was there. Completely unearned.
    I think while none of the villains were from this MCU version of Spidey, the fact that they crossed over because of MCU Parker's botched spell, is what gave him the personal connection to them and why he felt a personal responsibility to fix them before sending them back.
    I love that this is a real origin story for this Peter Parker. In all the "great powers" speech that came before, Uncle Ben was a given.. we knew it had to happen but the loss didn't hurt us the viewer in that same emotional impact as it did when Aunt May said it in this version, then bought it. That twist was powerful.. impactful, heart breaking.. for us as it was for this Peter Parker.
    Based on this movie, I would have loved to see a continuation of Amazing Spiderman's franchise with a darker Spiderman who no longer pulled punches.. almost like an Injustice Spiderman. How cool would that have been?

    Picked up on 2 things watching it at home now, that I either forgot or didn’t know.
    1- Even tho Ned talks about magic in his family, I think Strange actually gives Ned his powers during the spell casting. If u notice when Peter keeps interrupting Strange in the spell, The 3rd person he says is Ned and The word Ned glowing in the orange magic pops up and Strange looks at it and says “what’s a Ned” nd then just throws it down into the spell as 1 of the layers then obviously we see Ned open portals.
    2- The scene Strange knocks Peter out of his body, when his spidy sense kicks in u see the same exact wavy lines above his head that u see all the spider people have in into the spider verse whenever their sense kicks in.

The fact that he makes the right decision despite the fact that their lives mean nothing to him personally is extremely powerful and makes that decision all the more impactful. He could have easily said just zap them back, and give me my life back. But his moral compass is so powerful that he is impelled to save them anyway despite the fact his life is ultimately not affected if those characters go back and get killed. Despite the fact that by saving them he is inherently putting his life as he knows it at risk. That is far more difficult of a decision then if his life would be personally affected by the fate of one of his own villains.
