When I was a kid I worked a few gigs as the stage monitor mixer - the bands would look over at me and mime some hand signals that I completely didn’t understand. I would reach over and pretend to adjust something then look back and hope I got a thumbs up.
Never could tell if thumbs up was for louder or that’s cool.
Haha
lol!
I’m convinced this is every sound guy, usually you guys are wasted and at the bar half the time failing at hitting on the bartender
Thumbs up means louder, the ok sing means “that’s cool”. It sounds like you weren’t a very good “stage sound mixer”, basically because you don’t even know that’s called a monitorist.
Not as many Monitor Guys (people/monitorists) now. Depends how big the show is or how much money thrown at production. Just one sound guy (people/sound engineer) to do it all now foh and mons.
Of all the prog, noise, math, weirdo rock stuff I listen to... this ends up being the weirdest pedal set up ever.
Are you from Limerick?
Pretty cool though...
And one of the most useful... hearing what you actually NEED to hear on even a medium sized stage can be a huge battle.
Jimmy is like, the nicest person ever.
YOu can feel his warmth when he speaks.... He's a good dude....
But on the surface, he seems like a pain in the dick for the sound engineer! haha
I agree
And just like that, the world's monitor engineers fell in love with this man.
He’s like the Kirk Hammett of volume pedals .
He knows his stuff, because that tone was amazing! 😱🤩
I'm really bummed to find out that's for monitors. I was hoping he had each of his effects on volume pedals.
volume is an effect
But but but but.... ? It's amazing! :O
@@Josh-it6uy but these volumen pedals don't affect his sound... they are just a fancy monitoring mixer.... some of us spected aome bizarre way of achieving sounds
Absolutely a brilliant guitarist. I saw him share the stage with John McLaughlin playing mahavishnu Orchestra music. That is difficult material to play and he seemed so relaxed with it.
Yo Dawg!! I heard you like a volume pedal, so I put a volume pedal on your volume pedal that goes out to your volume pedal. Then I put another volume pedal on that volume pedal so you can control the volume of the other pedals you're using as a volume pedal. I then put 7 volume pedals together to control the monitor volume, using a volume pedal.
It's all pretty simple really.
#vintagememe
One of the greatest live guitarist I’ve ever seen. I don’t want to compare him to no one as that is not necessary to his talent 🤘
No doubt about it, what a great experience to see him live, my favorite for sure.
Controlling your own monitor levels live.
With individual monitors.
Drummers started this after vocalists with their own monitors.
What a brilliant concept.
Especially in today's BASS DRIVEN SUB frequency NIGHTMARE.
I mixed live sound and put 95% of my efforts into
live monitor mixes on stage for the muscians.
And, the musciians loved me for it.
I made them all play INSIDE their BUBBLE of PERFECT sound.
I am sound engineer and never have thougth of something like this hahaha very cool
I'm honestly re-thinking my entire career as a touring audio engineer....
Ha ha, I haver never seen this monitor set up before. Quite interesting actually. Maybe in a smaller format :-)
Very humble and functional setup 🤙🏽
That's a really great idea for controlling your monitor mix ! Thanks for sharing.
I’ve seen that rig rundown before but I liked this part so I watched it again.
What’s a viamm pedal?
Georgia should base easing quarantine restrictions on whether or not Panic is ready to rock
Very nice video. Super cool how he came up with that mix control with his feet. He has always impressed me live. Thumbs up!!!
Wonderful thing to be able to bring up any instrument , which in turn helps you as player on most any stage, especially large.
The fact he can go to outer space and back with just a reverb is amazing!
At first glance Jimmy Herring looks like Gregg Allman.
3:57 monitor tech is ya foot 🤣👏🏽👏🏽
Just because ya never have don’t mean ya never will👍🏽
fascinating. never seen or thought of controlling monitor mixes with volume pedals! really cool idea
What a good idea, makes complete sense!
Man, I wish I had a setup like that back in the day. In my experience with musicians, we all want to be louder. If I had a way to turn down the drums and the other guitar player I may have played in the band a little longer. My band was so loud it became unenjoyable to me a lot of times.
They were though, some of the best times I’ve ever had!
I love to see someone with his own personality
That rig makes a lot of sense!
love it!
This is insane and fun all at the same time.
Jam bands always be doing very unique and cool
Things to their rigs.
Jerry Garcia started that trend. Such a cool idea to have the wet and dry controlled on the volume
that's just brilliant.
This is an okay start. But I need to be able to pan my fellow band members, so I have a stereo volume pedal for each of them set up as panners. Then, I like to control basic EQ, nothing fancy, just bass, mids and treble, so that's another three modded volume pedals per colleague. I wish I could have volume pedals so I could control everyone's FX Aux, but they told me there was no more room on stage for all the volume pedals, so I'm working on an iPhone app for that. I'll mix and master our next album with my feet, btw. It'll be exclusively distributed by Zappo's.
nothing fancy
Cool idea!
As crazy as this looks, it's brilliant and does exactly what he wants. I would have just chosen a little more rugged of a volume pedal myself, that's a lot of strings to constantly swap out.
For real.. Maybe a Hilton or laser Active Goodrich
@Ghost Heart Ernie ball uses a string to turn the potentiometer via the rocker movement of the pedal. 🤘🏻😎
really cool idea, god knows how it's connected to the desk!!
I don't think I have ever heard of that, but it sounds extremely helpful.
What a cool setup idea
Holy shit! This is awesome!!!
very cool!
Amazing Idea...
The volume pedal of the volume pedal is a volume pedal to the line out of this amp to a line out of the volume pedal of this other amp to ten more volume pedals. That's what I heard. Just like that. No punctuation 😂
TheGazza83 hahaha
The thank you at 2:32 is so sweet 😄
The Steve Morse setup. He was using something along these lines, since the late 70's. Albiet with more Delays. but the reverb here is doing the same thing. Now the monitor setup is pretty dang smart. Better than relying on some dude they call "Catfish"
interesting how houser's sound was so influenced by his volume pedal and then Jimmy takes it in another direction! awesome
So I get the concept, the simplicity during the set. Pretty ingenious. I'm guessing sound guys love this.
But isn't it more of a pain in the butt to set up? I wish they had gone into more detail of the (literal) ins and outs of these monitor volume pedals.
Anyone care to explain the lines in for such a set up? Does it come from the board, or are they all directly from each player?
Astounding that panic is still touring. Crazy
Loved Jimmy since i met him oteal, col Bruce back in the day
The first time I heard this band I thought “ I have to find out who this guitar player is!”
I saw a thumbnail with a lotta volume pedals and I had to click
Funny but also cool with the experimentation
I'm a metal/rock player who has zero interest in this band's music, but anybody who's ever played live will tell you that volume pedal setup is probably the most practical "guitar player solution" for monitoring that's possible. Wow. Get ready to see a lot more guitar players doing this.
Most bands today would just spend the money on a wireless IEM setup.
@@iMadrid11 - but you would still need to have a simple, intuitive system for volume control/mix wouldn't you? No matter what gear you use, simple control makes a lot of pf sense.
@Toxic Potato Yes but he specifically said he doesn't want to have to stop playing to make an adjustment with his hands in the middle of a song.
What type of volume pedals ? JR ?
genius
Says you know almost 100 times 😂😂
After a couple of weeks, I would have pretty much all those monitor pedals shut down.
"I hear ya just fine now".
My in ears were my guitar, a little keyboard and the high hat cause we counted off with that. 8 piece band.
I'm sure Gary Moore used a setup like that too for his monitor mixes.
What's the function of that Ampeg?
he uses it to monitor the bass instead of running the bass through the wedges
Wiz MVP
This is me coz i love swelling and everything
haha awesome idea
Jimmy the wizard
The White Wizard!!! WSMFP!!!
Just a matter of time before those VPJR strings break during a show
What a great idea. A lot of extra gear but I can see the simplicity of it. ......BTW - speaking of extra gear...if interviews is what you do, why not invest in a mic with some sort of wind noise filter? Just sayin'.
Does Jimmy own stock in Ernie Ball?
It sort of makes sense to me but dam that is a strange setup upon first seeing this.
The fifth pedal doesn't do anything... it is a RED herring :P
He said you know only
He just said 26 times "y'know" in 6 minutes :D (great vid and great guy anyway! ) (yes, I counted, dang.)
JH is such a boss. Keeps it simple. But his PRS looks tiny in his hands for some reason🤔
That's how I felt the first time I played a PRS. It felt small. But do they play good!
Mr. Volumepedal (wiki in construction).
Pedalman !
w e t n e s s
I only use one effect, reverb. First note played is distorted.....🧐🤣 uum lol
He said he uses ONE PEDAL. Not one effect. Big difference
Is he saying Vine pedal
this is fascinating. Not the rig, I mean a guy wearing jeggings.
The soundtrack to 90's frat bros & their date-rape shinanigans.
you know
this is like a King of the Hill sketch for some reason
Close! Squidbillies
Beats telling monitor dude on volumes... What a GREAT IDEA !!😁👍🏻
That is the most complicated setup for a single reverb pedal I have ever seen in my life
Why won't you play, Jimmy? Just one or two or three or... lead runs... You're quite good.
I have three gas pedals in my car. I might have an amp that goes to 11 or 1 louder. I like to cut an extra arm hole in my shirts.
I'm completely lost
Dad jeans.
On a scale of one volume pedal to seven volume pedals, how much weed does he smoke?
"I'm gonna need an interviewer that seems the least bit impressed with one of the greatest guitar players on Earth..... who we got"? " I know a guy"..........................
Wait until he finds out about in ears
You should watch the video before you comment.
I think each volume pdeal can mute his other band members 🤣
When an ocd doomsday prepper missed his chance and became a guitar player instead.
T.Cole_2, picture 3 water filters in a row.
KFC?
I only use reverb, has one of the most elaborate pedal set ups lol
He chose the most unreliable volume pedal design ever. I guess his tech takes care of changing out those strings
What's the best?
It's not " the most unreliable volume pedal design ever". I've had mine going on 14 years and bought it used from a pawnshop and haven't had a problem out of it yet. And I used it constantly and always have my foot on it riding my level and doing long ambient swells. On another note he probably uses it cause it has a real pot and a smooth even accurate sweep. Unlike other VPs that tend to be nothing for the first half and then all at once your maxed out. I've tried almost all of em and have to say the EB(notEBJr.) is one of the best. He's a serious VP player and could have anything he wanted and has probably tried em all and that's the one he chose. That says a lot about the pedal.
That is an awful lot of volume pedal strings to change.
super wet vid.
1000 you know 🙄
Old school n skinny jeans uhhhhh...😣
Lamest rig of all time?
yes
Disappointed to say the least
I'm more happy with my rig now
Lame? That depends on what qualifies as lame. Personally, the rig should probably be judged based on how it allows the artist to achieve the tones that he or she wants. My guess is Jimmy's rig probably wouldn't work for you Levi. That doesn't make it lame though.
Are you just jealous he sounds better than you without using many effects?
Is this a joke?
...no?
