So interesting. My favorite guitar player. Thanks!! I asked the soundman at a Mud Island, Memphis,Tn. show if Mikey had any rack effects at FOH and he said that he used a Space Ghost. During the show,he showed me what the Space Ghost added to Mikey's live guitar sound. I miss Mikey and very grateful I got to see WSP hundreds of times. I remember waiting for Everyday to be released.Still my favorite album.
that was awesome. just hearing that chord when you were going through the pickups brought back so many different memories from so many different songs ...
Thanks so much for this video Sam and Co. And to all the WSP crew. I was fortunate enough to see Mikey in Salem, VA 99, at the Landmark Theatre in Richmond, their one show at the Hampton Coliseum and in Portsmouth. RIP Mikey. it's amazing to finally get a first hand look into what he had going on. Honest tune, Lingering Lead.
This is a great video. Really informative. I much appreciate the rig rundown as it really helps explain where much of that fantastic tone came from; thanks!
Very cool thanks for sharing Sam! I live off north Druid crazy thinking of Mikey going in there and buying the iconic tele off the wall. Would love to come across one!
There used to be a website, guitar geek perhaps, that had a diagram of Mikey's set up. It had the pedals, amps, switches, wiring diagram, etc. The website no longer works, really wish I would've printed that...
A lot of those guitar geek diagrams still exist on other sites. Somebody posted one for Mikey on the gear page. Not sure if it’s the one you are looking for and I can’t get the link to copy on my phone for some reason, but if you google image search “Michael Houser rig” it comes up.
Side note...the Wilkinson roller nut wont allow anything over 9.5 through the roller nut slot. It also has a Trem-setter replacing one of the tremolo springs to help tuning stability. Fantastic guitars, but very heavy because they are solid Ash.
That Nooga 01 is the only soundcheck I ever snuck into in 200+ shows. Sabbath jam everyone minus JB and JoJo. The freight train tone I remember but what about the chainsaw tone in Spring and summer 02? Did anything change equipment wise besides the Demeter and reverb unit?
I hope Sam can talk a little about settings on equipment. And on the Soldano Surf Box when used, was only the reverb used or were the tremolo and vibrato also used? (@What levels?) Thanks for the video Sam and Home Team/WSP ✌🏽 ❤️ 🎸 🎶
@@rdb5670 Friend, it was always on and always set to the same time. No tap tempo. I saw panic play about 35 times between 1992 and 1998. I'm not saying I am an expert, but I do play guitar and was always watching.
Great video. Back in 2003 I bought almost all this gear. I was such a Mikey freak. Still to this day those cabs and head are my favorite pcs. I sold the Tele plus I had but every time I crank up the Soldano I play Wondering and Going Out West. Man I miss Mikey my email is missinmikey2 still. Lol
Very cool post! I have the original power tubes from that Soldano used on Every Day - I changed them out after the sessions, and he gave me the tubes. They had very few hours on them and are probably still smokers 🙂
Please, Sam. Talk me through Dave set up. I can't tell you how many times I've embarrassed myself playing air guitar trying to figure out what he's doing, then he sees me and shows me what I really need to be doing. God bless that man. Impeccably excellent. Truly humbling to see and be shown up. Les Claypool did this to me once. He saw me and straightened his fingers and played with the pads of his knuckles, gave me a nod and wink. What a showman. Anyway. I flick my bass, and I need to know how to make the gravy pour out of the speakers. I'm pretty sure Dave has like 14 1/2 fingers and a pack of rabid golems ooze the bass playing that has shaped my whole life beyond 5th grade.
I agree 100% about JB's tone and all around involvement during the '00-'01 tour. He keeps the tone rolled so far off now. I think it may have to do with Jimmy's tone is awesome but he doesn't roll off to the jazzy tones that Houser would ofter do
@ this is great info, thanks for posting. i went back and watched some vids, and in 2000 Austin TX u can see the Kendrik reverb unit Sam presents in the video, in use. Mikeys sound to me always had a lot more trem/vibrato than reverb, at least since the SLO 100 in 1992. just more proof it was really the volume pedal and soft tail bridge on the tele. He always had killer tone, but 96-97 was absolute bliss. sit n ski, and all the smaller theaters. possibly he had the surf box then. would love to know one way or the other, somehow. just happy to have the recordings, in any event. many cheers
@@rdb5670 Yeah, Jimmy plays too many notes for my liking :c Not enough phrasing and melody. I don't really care for the 20 notes in 1 sec playing that I hear a lot from him >.
i posted the same thing, someone replied and that reply was removed for some reason. essentially Sammy said the Surf Box was causing unwanted noise somehow, at some point. So he started switching to the Kendrick Reverb, like the one in this video. There was an old diagram online from Guitar Geek that showed both the Surf Box "or" the Kendrick in the loop. Mikey also had a second Volume pedal not discussed in this video. it came right out of the guitar before eveything, like a master volume i guess. so two Ernie Ball volume pedals and one Dunlop Cry Baby pedal. three pedals total, definitely .
It's nice Sam still has the same reverence he had for him then and it's still present.
So interesting.
My favorite guitar player.
Thanks!!

greatest album of all time - Everyday
Sam provided a lot of healing when he kept that sound going after Mikey’s passing. Lots of great memories here. Thanks, all.
Damn straight!
As a percussionist, I would love to see a rundown on Sunny's rig.

Great watch! Sure miss Mikey, thankful for the music 👍😎🎶
Thank you so much for this. My mind is blown because I bought a tele at that same N. Druid Hills music store around '94. Miss ya so bad Mike
Looking great Sam!! Thanks for rundown!
good to see you Sam. Thanks for sharing. So many memories come through those guitars and equipment, you know them well and honor them.
Yep. Ima take notes on this.
Thanks Sam! Much love! Enjoying this from start to finish!
Thank God for this. What a great interview with the man's man himself.
Started getting a little choked up thanks sam

can we get the diagram on a tee shirt or poster? so cool. Sam, appreciate you keeping things going with Mike. your posts are my favorites.

I have trouble believing his delay was on 24/7

Mikey and John Carter from Allgood two of my favorite guitarist ever!
Love you buddy. Great video!
deluxe tele plus firestorm red rosewood fretboard to the facial features 4 lyphe

Thank you so much Sam clay from Instagram I’m just wondering about the surf box he had?!
Less than 20 made... im very interested in the surf box as well. I saw one on reverb for sale that belonged to lou reed
Thanks for this can't wait
Thank you!

I could actually use those. Want to sell?

He doesn't even have a tone now, its 132% chorus.
Love This!
Sam's right on JB's tone fall of 2000. Thought Sausage opener on 11/25/00 is a perfect example.
Hey Sam, "The Freight Train " sound someone asked about could be the drone rhythm thing he does during Climb To Safety
No Soldano Surf Box?? or is that before Sammys time? thought that was a mandatory part of the package all these years. A++ regarless...thank u sir!

I always heard he had a saldano surf box tremolo. Whats the story on that?
Dude, that was amazing! I only have 10.00
So he is diming the power section?
Jacked for set up
I need one of those shirts
Rhythm City we used to call it Rhythm Shitty .. and I was at that polo fields show it was awesome
Miss Mikey's sound sooooo much...Jimmy's too much for me most of the time....Machine gun Jimmy
i get so nervous they are going to play chainsaw city.
Never the same since he has been gone. He was a good friend.
Texas Headphones!
Badass
Should be mandatory viewing for Jimmy. JB, please start playing with Sam or make him lead for the band. Signed, everyone.
Jimmy shouldn't be a mikey replica, but he does need work phrasing a lot of the songs and seques.
@@rdb5670 Yeah, Jimmy plays too many notes for my liking :c Not enough phrasing and melody. I don't really care for the 20 notes in 1 sec playing that I hear a lot from him >.
Crazy to me that he didn’t have a pedal board… I always assumed he did
Tell JB to break out one of his old guitars you have there.
Tell JB to remove his chorus and let these guitars have a tone.
He plays the Chet Atkinson regularly.
Where's the Soldano Surfbox?????
NOT COMPLETE SETUP!!!!

Sounds like he was kind of a cross picker at times. Respect
