If your table has headers don't start your formula with cell number 1 (as in this video) because your headers will be formatted and it looks bad. The good practice is to start from the first cell that has value in it. In this video it should be =$E2>=1000.
Love your videos. Question. What is the formula for this criteria? Using the if. Example: I want it to highlight the following. If something happens between 16 and 31 days. include the 16 and 31. I can do either but not sure how to do the in between. Hope you can help.thanks.

Like if I had a spreadsheet about different makes and models of cars and i wanted the condition to be "if this cell says Ford, make row Blue" or "if this cell says Chevrolet make row Gold". How do you apply that is it the same formula for the most part except without great than or less than symbols?
I had something similar. I had date ranges, it was awful trying to input it in because it was specific and broad at the same rime. There's nothing on UA-cam or Google to cover this either. My solution was basically creating a legend of the dates far enough below my data so when I updated the tab, it wouldn't write over my legend. It was still close enough for others to view it and understand it. My legend looked like 30 days
@@gammonbrown9898 Dates are just numbers formatted as dates. The number 1 starts at Jan 1 1900 at 00:00:00 time. Then 2 would be Jan 2 1900 at 00:00:00. This continues onwards counting the days up from Jan 1 1900. Once you add hours and minutes, these just become decimals representing the fraction of the day that is complete. If you are at Jan 1, 1900 at 12:00:00PM for example this would be the number 1.5 because your half way through the day. As another example, if you type in Dec 31, 2019 and hit enter in excel, click on that excel and hit Ctrl + Shift + 1 to turn it into a number format (this is the number of days from Jan 1 1900. Then click on that same cell at hit Ctrl + Shift + # to turn it back into the date format. Now that you know how dates work, you can now treat dates exactly the same as numbers, highlighting a cell when it is >= or = (today()+30)
Hi all. I m working for medical lab reporting system build in excel. I need to do conditional formatting for a cell containing test value based on following criteria. Conditions: 1> There is a cell where user enters Gender either Male or Female. 2> Normal range for a Male for a particular lab test is between 10 and 20. 3> Normal range for a Female for a particular lab test is between 15 and 25. 4> Depending on the Gender and related value, the cell value should be formatted. 5> Example 1: if gender is Male and cell value is between 10 and 20, its normal and no formatting else format the test value cell. 6> Example 2: if gender is Female and cell value is between 15 and 25, its normal and no formatting else format test value cell. I m desperately waiting for helps.
Okay, I figured out how to find this on my Mac, but, it is also highlighting numbers less than in my formula. I used a spreadsheet with items from $6 to $26 and typed the formula as =$c1>20 It highlighted those, but also one at $6.49.
@@kathyreese9373 $6.49 is less than 20 so your formula is working correctly but if you were wanting to not include those there should have been a range...so some like =c120. I wouldn't put it in the cell like my example though as you'd likely come out with an error. If you were trying to highlight items greater than 20 you had your symbols backwards.

I do not have this same "New Rule" prompts that your video shows. I am on a Mac. It does not allow me to put in a formula. Any thoughts?
