    The Teutonic Knights: one of the most recognizable military orders. They will forever evoke the grim forest battles of the Northern Crusades. The Teutonic Order drove the success of the Baltic Crusades in their relentless wars to subdue Prussia. However, the Teutonic Knights were active on many fronts. Today, we’ll look at five noteworthy battles of the Teutonic Knights, taken from various phases in their history, and various theaters of war - from Prussia, to Achaea, to Lithuania to Poland. Psychopaths and murderers, just about all of them.
      They massacred Gdańsk, a city they agreed to protect.
      They also only managed to take over Prussia, because they literally murdered all the Prussians. Without Polish help, they couldn't stand up to them.
      Even Copernicus, born and raised in Prussia, was against them, while he was in favor of the Polish king. The (later, not pagan) Prussians *taxed themselves* in order to finance the Polish war against their own state.
      Still your favorite?

    DO A VIDEO about battle of Legnica 1241. Poles and Germans against Mongols. In your vid please present the TRUTH that mainly the Templars fought on the Polish side, and there were not as many Teutonic Knights as the chronicler Jan Długosz confabulated.

    12:30 - They were saved by the Poles, but then "acquired" Pomerelia.
    That's an extremely politically correct way of saying it. They got it by outright treachery, no joke. Basically, the Slavs in Pomerelia (even Masovia with current Warsaw was not called Poland back then) were heavily pressured by the Brandenburg. Gdańsk was about to be besieged, so they asked the "brothers" for help, even the king of Poland got involved. The "brothers" came in in force, took over the keep, kicked out all the Slavs from it, and successfully defended it.
    *But then they massacred the city.* Defenders massacring the city they defended?
    Such a holy order they were...

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  8 місяців тому +2

      Both sides had their accusations against each other. The Teutonic Knights claim the Poles and Lithuanians sacked and brutalized Gilgenburg, the Poles and Luthuanians denied that.

    • @bakters
      @bakters 8 місяців тому +2

      @@RealCrusadesHistory Were they asked and *agreed* to protect this Gilgensomething? I bet not.
      Anyway, the Poles did not deny sacking plenty of Prussian towns, as it was customary back then. If they denied this one, it might not have happened.

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  8 місяців тому +4

      You can't pretend the Teutonics were the devils and the Poles were the angels. Both fought pretty nasty at times and both thought they were in the right.

    • @bakters
      @bakters 8 місяців тому +2

      @@RealCrusadesHistory " *the Poles were the angels* "
      I never claimed that. I admitted they sacked towns, not? I claim the Poles were not the devils, while the "brothers" actually were.
      They genocided the Prussians, FFS! Literally. Every other pagan tribe was successfully converted, but not when the "brothers" were involved. Once they were done with them, there were no people left, so all the settlers came chiefly from Masovia, and the land is called Mazury (also in German) since then. They mostly spoke Polish till the mid-war period.
      BTW - At the battle of Grunwald the Poles systematically killed all the captured brothers. Almost all the Western volunteers survived, while all the "brothers" "miraculously" ended up smelling the roses from the wrong side...
      The Poles were no angels. But in comparison to the "brothers", they almost look like them.

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  8 місяців тому +8

      What you're saying just isn't accurate. The Teutonic Order did not genocide the Prussian tribes, in fact they incorporated tens of thousands of them into their state. Many of them served in their military. The idea that the Teutonic Order was some unusually brutal force in the region is false and does not hold up to historical scrutiny. In many ways, their state was quite stable and many individuals did well there. The enemies of the order, such as Poland and Lithuania, both behaved brutally and aggressively as well. It's clear that you take great pleasure in thinking about the Poles massacring the brothers. That's fine, but you've got a bias. It's also true that when Poland and Lithuania invaded the Teutonic State during the Grunwald campaign, the locals mostly fled from them in terror and took the side of the brothers. The idea that the Poles look like angels next to the brothers is complete nonsense. It's impossible to understand the history of this period unless you're willing to put aside bias and study the situation objectively.

      Nope. My family is eastern Prussian and we did a DNA test some years back with my grandfather who was born there. ~ 50% Baltic, 30% Nordic, 20% Northwestern European (German/French).
      I really deteste the Polish revisionist narrative that we were all supposed German invaders and that they "retook" the land by killing and displacing its inhabitants. Ffs. The Nazis renamed half of the villages as their names weren't Germanic enough... as towards the name: Preußen was the crusader state, Prussen the name of the Baltic tribes.
      Seriously who do you believe worked the fields? The knights? They formed the administration and military, however were a small minority in comparison to the overall population required to maintain them.
      The cities were for a long time pure Germanic as Baltic inhabitants like my family were banned from entering them for centuries, however the entire rest of the country were still the people that had always lived there. Are the French all Germanics? The British all Northmen?
