Damn, this lens is an absolute marvel! Can't wait to get my hands on it. I have Sony 200-600 mm and wanted lighter and more compact super telephoto lens for trekking. Despite the Tamron 150-500 mm being a good lens, it's' still quite heavy and big to carry around in a backpack. This lens is exactly what I wanted. Thanks for review Mr Akoubian!
I think this is going to hit that sweet-spot for most photographers as a do-it-all carry round. It's not got quite enough reach for dedicated wildlife photography for me, especially for small Passerine species but for everything else it looks fantastic. I'm still dreaming of the 200-600 with a bit more on the lower-end!
Hi David, I may let my 150-500 and the 70-300 go in favor of this lens. On a recent trip to Colorado, I used the 17-28 and the 70-300 and hardly touched my 28-75 or the 70-180 or the 150-500. I think the 50-400 and the 17-28 may be the ultimate landscape duo. I would be interested to know what your thoughts are after the Alaska trip. Thanks.
@@frankfeng2701 I leave in 4 days so the 20-40mm wasn't an option. Being a Tamron guy, I'll do the other 2. The only time I'll need super wide is if we get the aurora.
@@davidakoubian3025 With that combo, there will be no gaps. Good luck with the trip. Looking forward to your video on the trip. I use the 28-75 G2 for my son's UA-cam channel. I personally have not used the lens much for my work but for the UA-cam application, it is fantastic. We shoot at f 2.8 and the Sony eye tracking does its magic. I lent him my video lights too and his footage looks Hollywood!! As far as zooms, I am all in on Tamron. Of all my Tamron lenses though, the 70-180 is the star. The lens is insanely sharp at all apertures and all focal lengths.
Have the 200-600 but because it's weight and size , not something i pick up much unless on a specific trip which lets be honest is not often for most of us. This new lens is probably as good as you'll get as a compromise
I am still using it often and love it. My one wish for it is someday they make a version with feet. Beyond that it is great. I used it for a large percentage of images in Wyoming. I need to do a video follow up for sure. Thanks.

There are so many from Tamron now I can't even figure out which one you are supposed to get any more.
It's great to have so many options!
The one best for your needs and budget

Thanks. I'm taking the 17-28mm, and the 28-75mm as well as this lens on the trip and I think it will cover most everything.
I'd take a 16-35 or the upcoming 20-40 to pair with 50-400.

Thank you for this very promising first look. Can you already say something about the focus speed compared to the Tamron 150-500?
So far equally as fast, if not faster, but to get the real feel Alaska and the wildlife will be the real test.
@@davidakoubian3025 Thanks! I am looking forward to that video!
@@pb9292 I'm looking forward to making that video! LOL!
it's just heartbreaking they didn't release this in EF mount version. :(
Canon needs to release the license for their mount.
Boooo Canon!!

I think you will find the size and weight very attractive!
No follow up video on the Benro supadupa 46C?

I’m saving to buy a sony a7iii and a good lense to record soccer games will these be a good combo??? Thanks 😊
I think it will be!
hi Sir.
So, when exactly it's gonna release?
In the US it is September 22
@@davidakoubian3025 That means we will get it in December here in Bangladesh I hope.
How does it compare to the 150-500.
I'm still comparing, but it is lighter and just as fast and sharp. I'll do another video when I return home from Alaska.
I really want to get DSLR or Mirrorless Camera .. can you help me ?!
How can I help?
@@Rongzon well I'm a photographer so I have no money. Mirrorless is the way to go now.
@@davidakoubian3025 thanks for advice… I DM on Instagram too.! Check on IG
@@Rongzon will do, thanks.
Make it APS-C and I'll buy it for my A6600
I've used it with my a6600 and it works great.
Anyones tamron 17-28 really soft?
Not that I have heard. Have you sent it in to have it checked?
It’s so perfect it should sell for $6500 like the A1
