I love my primes but I'm getting to the point where I appreciate the versatility that zooms are offering. The quality Tamron is bringing to the table with these lenses is incredible and thing like the 35-150 make it really hard to justify primes anymore.
Just had this lens for 1 week and I have been blown away by how versatile this lens is. As I normally only shoot landscape and woodland it’s an ideal partner for my A7iv and is becoming my lens of choice. Early days yet but so far so good.
This is the best most comprehensive review I’ve seen yet and looks to fit many areas of photography … many variables as far as one lens that’s covers so much and I LOVE the macros you took … very artistic … also sooooo much lighter… thanks so much!!!
I just really love what Tamron is doing right now: very interesting and useful focal ranges, excellent mfd, 6-year warranty, and competitive pricing! Hands down my favorite lens company atm. I wouldn’t personally go for a lens this size but it looks like a great option for some and I can’t wait to see your review of the 20-40mm!!
Awesome review as always, Pav! Although this new zoom is outside my budget, I have and love Tamron's 70-300 for e-mount - I think it's one of the more under-appreciated zooms on any system.
Great review - very interesting lens, a bit over my current budget & I only just bought the Sigma 100-400... but I can see it replace the Sigma in a few years' time as the range is something special. Oh and - welcome to Brighton :)
Very interested in this lens, but I'm torn. I have the Tamron 28-200 and I love that lens. Perfect as a single lens option on multi day hikes. Still this 50-400 would be great combined with a wide angle lens on shorter trips in the landscapes, when you don't need to think that much about saving weight and space in your backpack.
Top review 👍🏻 now I have this lense for my ZVE1 & FX6 too and I really love it 😍 uploaded a first basketball indoor test video 😅 happy new year to the filmmaker community 🎥
The range is very good but the lens has the typical big zoom lens limitation of small aperture. I go back and forth between 35-150 and 50-400 but tend to use 35-150 more often, of course depending on what I am shooting.
in this price range and in this price it is normal. It's all about how and what you shoot. I think it is totally manageable. 35-150 is a totally different beast
It looks like a very nice lens. I went with the Tamron 70 - 300mm rxd that is about $600 and about 635 gr. I'm enjoying that light weight and it's great image quality everyday that I use it. I'm not sure the extra 100mm on the long end or 20 Less on the short end would be worth it to me to switch at twice the weight and twice the price.
I also have the 70-300 and think it is a sleeper lens. While the quality is really good, I think the 50-400 is better. I'm thinking about letting my 150-500 and the 70-300 go in favor of getting the 50-400. I tried it at a Tamron event but a few minutes is not long enough to get a feel for the image quality. It is heavy but a lot less than the 150-500 and 70-300 combined!
@@PavSZ I replayed your video after I asked my question and probably due to my bad English I did not notice the info about custom button for the first time. Now it is clear for me about custom button. But I still have no info about the difference between the button VC Mode 1 and Mode 2. Thank you
@@vladimirchapranov I do explain it here: ua-cam.com/video/ITgBfTsuEKc/v-deo.html Mode one is stabilisation for general usage and mode 2 is stabilisation for panning
sharper than the Sony 100-400 GM? the same auto focus? using tele converters? less fps while using a used A9 ? and if you have the cash a A1? yeah the price of the 100-400GM is a bummer
I dunno... I have a Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 Adaptall 2 from 1980 and I love it :D but don't know if 90 mm can be counted as a big zoom ;) Love Tamron's lenses indeed as for me - they have souls. Can't say it about Sigmas as they are like having a surgery tool for me ;)
Tamron has come a long way since then (so have Sigma). Sigmas in my opinion have more character than most right now. and to comment here (on one of your videos (I've been watching them yesterday. - LOVE your channel)). I am actually a full time professional photographer and film maker with over 20 years experience in the business
@@PavSZ Thanks for watching and loving my new born channel ❤ Im just warming up LOL I can see why you like Sigma (watched all your videos and especially that one about a 135 mm vintage lens I loved so much). Obviously, I seem to be more "romantic" thus I love Tamron's babies more 🙈 And, what's the most important, Im a Canon's girl 📷📷📷 🤩🤩
The problème with this lens is sharpness even in the center at 400 less than Sigma 100 400 except if you close at f8. What do you think about this point Since you have the 100 400?
@@VCBP-415 The Sigma 60-600 is a monstrosity and more than twice the weight of the Tamron 50-400. I have the Sony 200-600 for birds and wildlife, for which it's amazing, but I never want to bring it for anything else. It's just too big and heavy. The Tamron 50-400 is perfect for landscapes. Combined with a wide angle lens everything is covered, even some occasional wildlife photography. Side note: In my country the Sigma 60-600 is a lot more expensive than the Sony 200-600, which I find absolutely ridiculous.
Are you fan of big zooms?
Not so much. I find my lenses getting smaller and smaller

Really liked a 88-400 range on my previous APS-C, so this would be fun to try. Good thing that Tamron is shaking up the market this way,
Hi pav big fan from india, can you please review 20 40 2.8
I've got the Tamron 28-200mm, 17-28mm and a bunch of primes.
I'm kind of thinking to replace the 28-200 with this one.
What would you suggest?

This would be a great lens for sporting events IF the AF can keep up. What lens is it trying to compete with?
oh the AF can keep on a7IV, no problem.
It''s got no competition - no other lens with this range out there. There are few 100-400mm available though
Thanks!
Thank you!

the range is similar to apsc 70-350 by sony. wonder how it stacks up to that in terms of size, weight and image quality.
