Thank you for the Indepth review on this lens. After owning the wonderful Tamron 35-150mm f/2-f/2.8 I really was trying to decide between this 50-400mm vs Tamron 150-500mm (avoid overlapping) and Sony 100-400mm (tele option). At the end I bought this lens and am very pleased even though I am fully aware that there is no tele converter available (at this moment) and it's limited to 15FPS if I have an A1 class camera in the future. The versatility to shoot at 50mm with 1:2 macro at super close range with portrait range and then be able to grab a shoot at 400mm is something to experience with especially when shooting events. During a Christmas concert that was comes on a train that travels to different cities, I was able to get shots from large crow with few train boxes to the individual performers on the train stage about 60ft away in the night (no need to fight with crows of happy smartphone snappers & photographers with shorter lenses) with all but one out of focus image from the A7IV (plenty to crop) while shooting in the darkness with only concert lights on the train stage on a PD CF tripod! Wish I have the HEIPI tripod with me when I was taking videos and doing some panning through!
Do you think I should get this to pair with A7RV which. Can crop further or get 18-300 (27-450) and pair with XT5/A6700 which is lighter setup and get to more daily 27mm? Should I just use iPhone 15 for closer and ultrawide or get ultrawide zoom which mean I need to change lenses? Do you think it make more sense to get a fast ultrawide and crop in instead of get a slow ultrawide zoom and optically zoom in?
@@NetvoTV I now pair it with the A7RV and it's excellent setup to be able to shoot at APS-C 26MP oversampling image (sharper than A7IV 33MP image) with 100% focus coverage at 8-stop IBIS from 35-225mm at f/2.8. Sold the Fuji X system (X-T1/E2/E3/T2/T10/T20/H1) due to lack of sensor type support in LR CC & 3rd party lenses (getting better but not at E-Mount level). A small lightweight ultra wide like Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 is great in a pinch without too much cost and yes iPhone 15 Pro is great not only for macro and ultra wide with Lidar focus but video that needs very little grading is under good lighting condition compared to A7IV/RV.
I’m torn between getting the Sony 100-400 and now this lens which is more versatile and less costly. I have 5 Tamron lenses and have never been disappointed with there quality. Needing a telephoto for wildlife would fit the bill for sure.
That is a hard decision. The Tamron is nearly half the cost. That is a big deal. The Tamron is a little bit lighter. The Sony's f-stop range is a little nicer. Is that worth the price difference to you? Let us know what you decide!
@@TheSlantedLens thank you, I though it would be good. I'm a bit shy, I'm afraid people would beat me up, so having 400mm should give me enough time to run away if some big dude gets mad.
That is the Heipi Travel Tripod I am using for the bees. You can see it at time stamp 02:40. I used it all throughout the video. Loved shooting with it!
This is off of Tamron's site: "Optional tripod mount (Model A035TM) with Arca Swiss-compatible quick shoe. The Arca Swiss compatible tripod mount with quick shoe (Model A035TM, sold separately) allows you to shift quickly from handheld shooting to a tripod. The tripod mount can be easily attached and detached, allowing you to choose the best shooting method for each scene." You can also see it in the Q&A about the lens on B&H B&H - bhpho.to/3EfuwQI
yes it does as I tested it in the store when I was buying this lens. I did not buy it due to its price as the third-party mount on Amazon is only 1/3 of cost if I really needed one. So far, I have no need of it yet.
Why don’t they go ahead and release this for Nikon z mounts?? Just don’t understand it?? The Tamron 18-400 is the best DX lens I ever owned for Nikon DSLR and wish it was produced for Nikon Z full frame.
@@TheSlantedLens , I have but it’s not as good as my 28-300 using the ftz. I have the Nikon 100-400 Z mount now and think it will be great until something better comes along.
Why I went with Sony A7IV instead of a R6 or R5. Canon used to be great in licensing to third-party lens manufactures so they were able to sell a lot of camera bodies which updates almost every one or two years but now....
When I finally decided to get back into photography, I looked at all the cameras available. Canon? Clunky, too big, ugly, felt bad in hand - No. Same with Nikon and I own the Nikon F2A and FE2. Looked at Sony and was amazed at the a6000 rangefinder style tiny baby. Fell in love. Just love the cameras and the great variety of lenses available. Now Sony has the A7R5 and its siblings, the latest being the incredible a6700, which I snapped up. I suspect the A74 will get some DNA from the R5 and that will be a beast of a camera if and when that comes out.

If you are really into wild life, gets the Sony 200-600. This Tamron suits landscape photographer who wants to carry small number of lenses.
question would the Sigma sport 60-600mm be just as good or better if could use Sigma sport 60-600mm on sony. i know made for canon and nikon
We haven't tested that lens. Good luck deciding!
Hi how do I shoot sharp photos on the tamaron 50 to 400mm. My photos are not clear they have noise
Are you shooting in low light? There are so many variables it would be hard to tell .
@@TheSlantedLens yes low light, so about cloud weather about 10am. No sunshine.
What settings should I use🤔
Is that a good lens for street photography?
It's a great lens for street photography. Super versatile!

In that macro shot with the bees why aren't you using that new tripod you recently showed off? Not sturdy enough for macro you'd say?

@@TheSlantedLens oh no way.. nice! You were using the main part of it without the "inner" tripod? It looks different :)
Had to remove the centre monopod element to get down low
@@TheSeppy101 it's a tripod at the center not a monopod? (Check out the heipi kickstarter, looks cool to me)
Are you sure the 100-400 Tamron collar fits?? B and H said no

Combine it with good standard zoom and you're done.
True. A 28-75mm G2 would be great to pair with it!
Love the Tamron 35-150mm f/2~f/2.8 with this 50-400mm lens

Canon is killing me with there lens selection. Wish i had this for my R6
