I personally own the ep booster and have tried the echoplex and the ep boost kicks it's butt!!!
Ep booster gives a bit more decibels, but echoplex gives nicer general sound..

I read the comments before listening, and I honestly thought you guys were being toffee nose snobs! I'm so glad I listened properly before leaving some scathing comment! Cos you're abso-right.. Ol' Boy is flinch-inducingly out-of-tune!! ...Right up there on the B string - I think - where, when picking a D-chord, it will pull your pants right down once you get to it! LoL!

I like running the EP booster into a univibe. The Bass it adds really helps with the low end of the vibe

Used an EP3 since high school (1967 to 1971) and right through to today. The EP booster is simply hype, it does not sound anything like an EP3 with the delays turned off to my ears. Still useful, but like all pedals, it's mostly bs hype using words that people think actually map onto the actual sound. Hey: This is my opinion. Have your own. I don't need you to agree with me.
Is it bullshit hype if the pedal sounds great though? :) For sure it isn't the exact copy of EP3 without delay (even though I think Xotic did copy the original circuit) but it did provide a similar feel in the tone, granted it was more "high fidelity", clearer and more sparkling.
Answer for yourself. Have your opinion. I have mine. You can't hear what I do or react to it like I do. vice versa

I own both. It always sounds good until you hear the real original and you know what you miss.
Been playing guitar for 45 years and still haven’t figured out why some of the young guitarists have to do this annoying “ch-ch-ching” thing before playing the song. Especially on equipment demos. Must be a millenial thing?

I own the Echoplex from MXR and I have tried the EP booster from xotic effects as well.
I honestly like the EP booster better than the MXR echoplex. I did some extensive tests with both pedals using a sound generator and a spectrum analyzer and both pedals are doing some magic. I just think the EP booster does a better job.

EP booster is the best here but there is better boosters then the EP try the Keeley clean booster its a little warmer cant stand it when you crank the booster and it give the sound more treble so i would recommend the Keeley booster.

No, the Dunlop doesn't act like an attenuator at all. All your doing is reducing your volume before you hit the amp, much like turning down your guitars volume does. Why would anyone want or need to do that with a pedal?
Jim, you've just described exactly what an attenuator is! So, yes, the Echoplex can act as an attenuator. What it can't do is act as a power soak which is something entirely different. Why would anyone want to? There are many reasons and Electro Harmonix launched the Signal Pad pedal designed specifically for that purpose. That doesn't mean you should use it as an attentuator; it means you can use it in that way if you wish. The option to boost on the Echoplex is still there. Hope that helps. :-)
+1971SuperLead Yes, a Power Soak is an attenuator. But an attenuator is not necessarily a power soak! :)
The power soak attenuates the power amp volume allowing the amp to be driven harder at the power amp stage. The EchoPlex can be used as an attenuator at the preamp stage.
StompboxTV Oh, if it's in the effects loop of an amp that places the loop directly between the pre and power amp stages.
But why do that? Pre amp distortion sounds terrible.

These are extremly well sounding pedals. Add the EP Booster to whatever amplifier, and sound will improve radically. These guys kill them all. Can´t even tune a guitar...
Gain or boost? 11db of boost isn't the same as gain unless I'm completely mistaken.
If so, please feel free to set me straight, I'm not one of the precious snowflakes who don't handle criticism well.
That Vox+SL sounded like a DI'd guitar straight to FOH without any IR or Cab Em. I just wanted to set you straight on that.

why would you want to use a preamp as an attenuator????
Would’ve been better to start with just the amp to demonstrate the affect the pedal has rather than just plough into it. Too rushed.
Funny, you need really do need a pre amp.
This all sounds wrong...definitely don't get those sounds from other rigs.

Although these pedals have their place, it's smelling a bit of hype and bollocks. The guys worked hard though. Huzzah.

You the EP Booster to 0db boost at 0 volume with the dip switches??? So not really a difference there...
Except EP Booster at 0 db setting has the same gain than the guitar without it and Echoplex takes all the volume away.
