You Sir are the first UA-cam-Guitarist/Reviewer that I can say is a truly gifted, amazing player! Do you have a band or your own material? I'd love to listen to your stuff!
Thanks, you Hooligan. You are too kind. I've had my own thing back in the day...(w limited success).. now I tour w a guy named Lee Brice who is great. I also MD the CMT Music awards etc. Love all things music/ guitar. Love to play every chance I get. Play on, Amigo
Love these reviews, and John Bollinger is a great player, but get the lights off the floor, guys! Honestly, the way it's lit is really hard on the eyes, and makes poor JB look kinda like Frankenstein's monster.
AGE MODE The EP103’s Age function simulates the sonic qualities of an aging EP-3. To access: 1. Push and hold VOLUME control for 2 seconds until AGE LED flashes. 2. Rotate VOLUME control counterclockwise for a bright, pristine tape echo sound; rotate control clockwise for a darker and more modulated, aged tape echo sound. THEN use the level knob to adjust age output.
Back in the late 60s when I got bitten the Echo Plex Tape Delay was the penultimate guitar accessory. And I found one at Andy Penn's Drum and Guitar City. They wanted one arm and one leg. No actually about 7 to 900 dollars that's about$ 18- 2,100 bucks in today's dollars (Gas was 25¢ a gallon) Gotta get one. Not sure how the tap worked.
Ok, say I have this, and a DD-7, and an FS6-U momentary/latching footswitch. You can reverse polarity for A or B or both on the FS6-U. Can I connect the DD-7 ("normal" polarity) and the MXR (reverse polarity) to the FS6- (TRS to each pedal) and then select the FS6-U to "A+B) (I think you just use A or B to send signals to both outputs in this mode) and therefore sync up the two delays, eg dotted 8ths on the Boss and quarters on the MXR? Because, if so, I will sell my Nemesis and just use those two. Because: 1) They Sound better and 2) Are simple and elegant and don't require a degree from MIT in order to operate them.
@@tanker1960 Yes, but I don't use the FS-6U anymore, haven't done so in years because it is battery only. I got a Disaster Area TNT. You can set "normally open" or "normally closed" for any of the 3 TRS outputs on the TNT.
@@mattgilbert7347 Thank you! I purchase one FS-6 Dual foot-switch a few months back with a FS-7. The FS-7 is paired with a DD8, on another board. I wanted to control Tap Tempo on the EP 103 with the FS-6 Dual, if I could. Time to test and burn something up. Thank You for your help.
@@tanker1960 You can do it with the FS-6U dual I think, there are switches inside to set the outputs NO (normally open) or NC (normally closed). Sorry I couldn't be of more help
Jaik Cooper It's a mod that replaces the 5-way switch with a 3-way (wired as neck, neck+bridge and bridge), volume pot is wired as a master volume for neck and bridge pups, second tone pot is wired as master tone for neck and bridge, and finally the first tone pot is wired as a volume/blend control for the middle pup. In essence, you end up with more pickup combinations than a regular strat 5-way switch affords you: N, N+M, M, B, B+M, N+B, N+M+B.
@@monsterjazzlicks you can run stereo FX from mono sources. Moog (mono) to stereo delay to left and right speakers separately to a stereo channel strip if recording.
@@monsterjazzlicks Mono delays are mono in, mono out whereas stereo will be mono in stereo out. For stereo out you will need two cables to go out to the P.A. Stereo pedals can be used as mono in, mono out as well. This is a great pedal, it's a very accurate Echoplex sound and it has a preamp built in to colour the wet signal. It just depends on your needs & budget. Have a look @ the Strymon El Capitan / Volante & the Timeline as well. The El Capistan is a very popular tape delay pedal for guitar and synth. It is designed to accept line levels properly.
Thank you for making a demo that shows the product without adding tube boosters and other effects not in the Echoplex box. Also, the Rockabilly short part was what I have been wanting hear on the other demo videos. I had several echo units in the olden days; three original Echoplexes and an Echorec. I used them for guitar AND vocal. One Echoplex for guitar, one Echoplex for vocals and one for a back-up when then tape crapped out, as it did more often than I wanted. That was the reason I bought the Echorec, which I liked the least. I still have its very cool tweed case.
If I have learned anything from rig Rundown, its that John is very intimidated and naive to delays. I have bought a lot of tape echos, I still have this on my board. But I would never have bought it had I heard this demo, its horrible.
Love John's playing style and his product reviews. Awesome!

You can actually get up to 4 seconds with the tap footswitch. Not just 750ms.

Still like the tape Echoplex EP-3 vintage and have one yet from late 1976 or so! Love it!
just bought one on rever for 125. steal.
Great demo as usual John!!
Echoplex is made by Dunlop?
Carbon Copy is made by MXR?
Thanks
Correct! MXR is part of the Jim Dunlop company though, as is Way Huge ✌️
love that supersonic amp
I remember the dark hair.
I like the way this pedal made you play. Like at 10:50.

Awesome video man. Ty
hank you-This is one of the best. I run a preamp before this pedal. It helps.
Thasnk you very much. This is the Only review that shows how to get a dotted eighth note with this thing. It's been driving me crazy.
I guess I'll have to be the first to say it " BRIAN MAY !" 😁
Turn up at a session/gig and know it’ll work, unlike my old EP-3/Copicat 👌🏻👌🏻

How about a degree from MIT to translate what I just read?
Did you ever work that out? I want to do the same. Will it work.

Great playing and a great Tone. Thanks John. 👍
A very nice demo.
Better demo - thanks.
Amazing pedal. The most authentic I ever heard

question about the guitar. what is memphis wiring?

yup.
Cool , so it’s like a 3 pickup Gibson
Ok for what it is, but it can't touch an old EP-3.
How would this sound with a Minimoog please?
like you've plugged into an echoplex. This delay in mono I believe, maybe look into a stereo delay for a synth?

Not bad but remember to develop Melody in your playing , that is lacking from 80% of all players !!!
Why can't the knobs simply be at 12 noon?
