My parents attended Church of Today and my mom played this cassette all the time. White Eagle, Jack Boland, and Wayne Dyer…you are remembered and loved in 2022.
White Eagle and I went to school together in Compton, California. I met him, in music class, when he walked into the room and asked if the try outs were still open for the top singing group which was a madrigal group, very small and very elite at Dominguez High School. The teacher, Mr. Larry Steele said they had just finished but invited him to try out. Wow! Our mouths dropped open as he sang "Mariah" from the musical Paint Your Wagon. Needless to say he was accepted. His anglo name was Mervyn Moore, but when he became famous he used his Native name. We had a lot in common and we were both Native Americans. We were paired together in duets for many recitals and also extra curricular performances off campus. We became very close friends and I went to his house often. I kept up our friendship through the years, but then I lost track of him. I found his family at the Lakota Souix Rosebud Reservation, in South Dakota, when visiting the University and the White Eagle Academy. Unfortunately by the time I found the Moore family, White Eagle had passed onto his maker. I have remained close to family ever since.
Linda Smalley I knew Merv and Betty when they saying with Re'Generation. About 10 years ago I had dinner with an old friend who also sang with him who told me he died of AIDS. I was very surprised. Probably the last time I saw him was on the Crystal Cathedral. Do you know if Betty is still around and what she is doing?
I saw this astounding concert at the Church of Today in Michigan in the 90's. I will never forget it. He was so warm, humorous and that voice!! And his wonderful accompanist on the ivories. What a night!! I think I still have the cassette.
Met him when he sang at the Easter Seal Camp in Colorado. It was ethereal.. He was standing on one of the rocks there with a gentle breeze blowing. I will forever remember him and the peace I felt from his voice. A treasure taken all too soon.
