    Hey everyone,
    I posted this video over two years ago just sharing my opinion hoping it would help someone. I am honored that so many of you have visited my video. Thank you.
    As a small update. It is working amazingly still. My power bill has remained lower than before and made the purchase worth it.
    I love going to sleep with a slight hum of the air conditioner but my wife is a very light sleeper so she would not like the other AC we had before because it was loud....she loved this one. Happy wife, Happy life.

    I just install this same unit to replace a 220vac unit, that lasted a long time, just had to rewire the plug from the wall to match. Yes you need to remove it from the housing to allow you to screw it down to the sill properly, it weighs 95LBs, I used an office chair on wheels and a tiedown strap wrapped around it for lifting into place. (restricted area left and right of window) The old ac took two people to lift it into place. NOTE: My old AC was install with extra external support brackets which i re-used for the new one.
    The APP, WIFI, and even google home function fine, even though google has limited control.
    Have a great day, also mine was same price.

      Hey there, did you do routine maintenance cleaning the air filter and cleaning the coils behind the filter? I have had mine on since I bought it daily and it's still going strong. It may be a simple problem. Take some time to look and see if something is amiss or loose before replacing this great unit.

    I will definitely go with this unit. I bought the Friedrich about 3 years ago and it’s total garbage. I have a very old one when the Friedrich was a name of quality. That’s no longer the case. The old one still works, the new one lasted one season before it peed on it’s self and ruined my carpet. LG seems to be the one.

    UPDATE: is very quiet on Low speed but makes an electronic noise on Medium and a slight helicopter sound. Am returning it. ------ ordered the Midea 12k btu inverter unit.
    Just got and installed it. Works great. Super quiet compared to my last AC. Only thing is, the 14,000 may be too big for my studio apartment (20x23') with 9' ceilings plus bathroom and galley kitchen. But in the morning one wall with windows gets sun so it heats up.

      The first thing you need to do is figure out how big of an area you are going to try and cool it with, Most of the time people purchase units that are too small for what they need! This guy commented that it is cooling an 1100 square-foot area, Which means the unit is undersized and not running at its maximum efficiency! If you were trying to cool anything bigger than 1000 ft.² you are better off going with a 220 V unit, The biggest units they make for 110 V is 15,000 BTU which is only good for up to 800 ft.²! Or get two 110 V units and put them on each end of your house if you do not want to run a 220 V line! People are always worried about all the bells and whistles but in reality the most important thing you should be worried about is how big of an area you’re trying to cool and go from there! Good luck and stay cool!

      @@NeverEnoughPyro40 that you very much for commenting. I did end up purchasing the LG Dual Inverter 9500 btu. It's probably the max size that can fit in the window I'm using but also yes more importantly the coolant capacity for the size room is more than enough and I'm able to keep it on energy saver mode most of the time. It wasn't available in stores and had a back order but I was able to make a purchase online and I saved 40 to $60 can't remember right now that was last year from Home Depot.. the savings came from the ZIP code I used.. oddly enough depending on the ZIP code the price does change. I'm aware of Walmart doing it for in person purchases even if the Walmart is, let's say 5 mikes away or less but online should be fixed prices. The other savings was to have my energy ⚡ service provider basically use the built-in Wi-Fi to regulate my air. I definitely opted out of that and wasn't interested, as I use it when needed and it's not often!

      Oh and one more thing the only smart feature I actually use is the app through my phone to turn it off and on and change temperature but it's mostly turn it on and off and if it's going to be really hot during the week I'll set a timer to turn it on before I get home or will be going into that room - I'm a Techie but all the "extra" stuff is not needed for me 😁

    Me wondering if this type of inverter AC can be found in a much smaller size of 5,000 to 8,000 btu ? I need an AC for one room in a house that has central air. So, the AC unit doesn't have to cool the room from scratch. I just want the room to cool from the occasional 78 down to 68 and act as a dehumidifier once July hits. Usually the room is 75 and I hate that so, this AC will just need to bring the temp down about seven degrees to 68. Previous to seeing this LG unit thanks to this video, I am looking at a Danby 8,000 BTU inverter U shape window A/C. I'm probably going to buy this Danby AC. Hey, it's on sale at $299.99. It sits lower on the window. It weighs just under 70lbs, which really, to me is kind of heavy for my window type, maybe? Standard Window AC's in the 6,000BTU range are often under 40lbs. This 70lb Danby U shape AC looks like the Midea U shape inverter window A/C. I've got vinyl windows and vinyl siding. These windows haven't exactly ever had a window AC installed in them ever but, from what I've read online it's possible to put one in, but I have to add wood shims to create a platform base that won't put any weight on the window seal lip. Then, I have to take into consideration the pressure that a frame mount will put on the exterior vinyl siding. Oh what fun. I was looking at a portable AC unit, but the window unit, if I can do this, will look better, and not be sitting in the room taking up a bunch of space. Also, portables emit heat. I dont want any heat in this room. If I can get the temp down to 62 I would love that! That's probably too cool for an AC unit to handle. I don't want to wreck the AC uinit aiming to turn this room into perpetual late Fall temp's. I will be happy if I can get the temp down to 68. From what I've learned about AC's, getting a unit that's too big can be detrimental. It will not allow the unit to run long enough to truly act as a dehumidifier. So, I need a window AC that's just the right BTU range for this purpose.

      A lot of the newer AC's do not cool as well as the units did before. I am almost sure it's a programming limitation because of government energy consumption limits. What I noticed works well is if you know it will be a hot day set it to a temperature that you can handle that feels cold to you but not unbearable by 10 am at the latest so the room can stay cold and the ac never has to struggle to cool the room. It just needs to maintain it at that point. It is very good at maintaining temperatures just not very good at reducing temperatures especially on very hot days. As I said previously I'm sure it's a programming limitation because older AC's pre 2000's used to get any room cold down to mid 60's fast like 30 min or so. Now I can setup an AC at 68 and everyone of them struggles once it gets below 72°
      Go stay at any respectable hotel like the ones in Vegas and you'll notice those AC's can get your room to freezing in 10 min flat. Like I said the key is to look at your daily forecast and turn it on early and never turn it off during the day while it's hot because if you do once the temperature has risen in the room you will never get it back down. There's been times where I've forgotten to turn it on when I go to work and I come back to a hot 85° apartment. It will get to 76° after 3 hours but it won't get below that until way past 9 pm. Meanwhile turning on AC at 9 am on a 103° heatwave maintained my 70° setting throughout the day. It never rose up to 71° once.

I'm wondering, the brace instructions say that if the AC Unit itself in heavier to one side to move the brace over 3-inches in the direction. Is there a weight imbalance to one side with this mode LG AC Unit? If so, which side? Thank you!

    • @ExhaustedPidgeon
      @ExhaustedPidgeon  7 місяців тому +1

      I have had this installed for over two years now and it is still going strong. I honestly don't remember if one side was heavier than the other but I got it installed mostly by myself with some help from my wife. When placed on the window we secured the brackets and it stayed in place.
      I thought I would need to place support under it but it held strong to the window frame.
      I can't tell you if one side is heavier than the other without having to take it out the window 😩 but I can for sure say it was worth it.
      I had to run two AC's before, but now with just one air conditioner it is just as cool...and my light bill went way down while running it all day and night.
      It was a good purchase.

    how does this compare against a frigidaire as far as how good they cool?

    • @LazyCrazyGuy
      @LazyCrazyGuy Рік тому

      I think the Frigidaires cool better faster but they are so much louder especially with loud clunk sound when the compressor turns on/off. Programming also seems to be better with their auto fan mode. Frigidaire has a lower tolerance in terms of temperature swing. For example if I set it to 72 when the Frigidaire touches 71 degrees it turns off the compressor until 73 degrees is reached then it reignites the compressor so you have a temperature swing of 71 - 73. The LG bothers me so much because their programming is set so that it shuts off when 70 is reached and reignites when 74 is reached. That is a 4 degree swing which is massive. You can go from being cold to hot and I really dislike that so I am constantly playing with settings to get the desired temp. LG also doesn't have an auto fan feature so that it cycles fan speeds automatically depending on temperature and desired set temperature. This is a huge missed opportunity because LG's inverter has a variable speed compressor and allows the compressor to speed up or wind down depending on how far from desire temperature it is. The fan always remains the same selected setting of low, medium or high. It also has a sleep feature that I wish they would just make a permanent setting like quiet mode or extra low fan speed where it gets extremely quiet. Because unfortunately their sleep mode raises temperature by 4 degrees in 2 degree increments every 30 minutes and it doesn't allow you to keep it on indefinitely. It turns off after 7 hours maximum on my unit and I believe the newer model can do up to 12 hours. But a 4 degree temperature swing is massive I wish it didn't do that. Either way I think that LG's 14,000 BTU behaves a lot like Frigidaire's 12,000 unit only because the LG doesn't run compressor at full speed for more than a few minutes at a time. Not sure if mine is faulty (probably) or if it's programming but I can hear it go full speed and it gets cold but then it winds down to what I would call 80% speed/capacity for a few minutes and then it speeds up to full speed and the cycle repeats until you get to within a few degrees of desired temp. Then it just cruises at 80% so a lot of times I have to set temp lower to get desired temp and then once it gets to my desired temp then I can change thermostat to my actual desired temp where it maintains. As I said that applies to my unit, not sure if it's faulty or programming. Mine also happens to be the 1st gen model which is the lw1517ivsm. This one in this video I believe is the second gen lw1522ivsm because my model was discontinued a year or so ago. I do love this unit more than the 4 year old Frigidaire that this replaced in 2019 but there's a few things I liked more about Frigidaire one being the tighter thermostat tolerance and the auto fan setting. Also that unit was 12,000 BTU but seemed to cool better and faster than this 14,000 BTU LG. First thing I noticed but it was so much quieter that I quickly dismissed it.

      I have the LG lw1517ivsm which is the older model. I believe that one is discontinued and this model is the upgraded one lw1522ivsm. As it pertains to mine I have had mine since 2019 and I bought it's smaller sibling lw1019ivsm as well and they are now both 4 years old. I would say that I am a bit worried about longevity as it seems to have started rusting on lower part of coils from condensation and the heat fins are flaking off because of rust and mildew that was eating the copper. I noticed this because after 4 years I just took them down for a wash with a solution cleaner and hosed them off. The smell was getting unbearable from mold and mildew. I have a dehumidifier in living room and every time I am done cooling I turn it on and set both ACS to fan mode so they can dry and even that didn't help enough to keep coils and fins from rusting. I do like that the lw1517ivsm has no styrofoam so it doesn't get stinky and moldy the way the lw1019ivsm does but I hate that both of them aren't sealed well and pull in outside air like smoke,.dust, etc. They have their perks and their cons. The best perk is setting my living room AC to sleep mode and having that cool the entire apartment is amazing because in sleep mode it's nearly silent and being a room away it's almost undetectable. I'm a light sleeper and everything wakes me up including an ac next to my bed while compressor turns on/off.

      It does have an auto mode called "econo mode" but this kinda defeats the advantages it has. This has the new inverter compressor that speeds up and slows down to match the demand it needs instead of just "on and off". It is very good at keeping the temperature exactly to where you set it. This is why they are so efficient and cost less to run than typical ac's. Using econo mode is using it like the old "on/off" ac's. Better to just set the temperature up higher and let it do it's thing.

      Is it hooked to a GFCI outlet? Mine would trip it when I had it plugged into one of those outlets. A normal outlet is fine though and had no trouble.

      @@user-fj2or3xp2c outside outlets are usually tied into the garage and building code usually has them wired with a GCFI outlet too. Keep trying some different outlets and if you have to run an extention cord get thr thickest best one you can find. I have the 9500 btu unit and even my best 25' extention cord gets warm while running the AC. I am going go get a much better extention cord soon.

    Quietest a/c I ever heard. Sounds like a table fan. How is it after many months? Any noise issues? Most window a/c's I had since like 1996 or so get broke fans or something where there is some noise. The superintendent of by building told me they use cheap parts and something breaks in there causing the noise.

    This AC unit is total garbage. The high pitch noise from the compressor is beyond annoying. Forget about getting any rest with that. But that's not all. It starts to howl like a plane that's about to take off. After a while, it also starts giving off gurgling noise from condensate build-up. LG really went over-board with making this AC fancy-shmancy with its title, Dual Inverter. That's where it ends basically. It weighs approximately 98lbs by the way. Have fun installing it.
