This video is nothing short of awesome. The instructions provided by LG were unclear on many steps. This video saved me many hours of work. Thank you Scout!
Hi Scout. I received my new LG 14K BTU AC today and had to let you know that I'd still be attempting to figure everything out if it were not for your how-to video. Thank you, Sir. You saved me a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. Two thumbs up. Thank you again!
I am a young mom and I bought this AC to install in my nail room. I’ve never install an AC before but I will now try after watching your video. Hopefully I will be able to do it by my self and my son help. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
LG should hire you to create their next AC install video! Your video was amazing and I’m even more impressed that you were able to do the entire install by yourself!
I just bought this same unit and I was confused about the supports for the window now I know it's not necessary thanks to your video. I've got to get a 2x4 tomorrow to finish the installation. Thanks for the video!
I have this unit. Very happy with it. Yes, it does ramp up very slowly at first, but once it's going it's incredibly powerful. The inverter compressor is also surprisingly quiet, you can barely tell when it comes on.
Thank you so much for making this. I was having a hard time setting this up with the unclear instructions in the manual. You saved me a ton of time and my AC unit is now keeping my house cool. Thank you!
I purchased a LG 12000 and I had to hear how another unit sounded while powering up😅 I guess All of theres does it. Great video. Mines still going strong...😎
Did anyone else miss details about the black rubber plug in the back to allow the condensation drip? I went back to manual and did not see anything in that regards. Every AC I have ever had or seen the plug is always removed. Thoughts and input. As of now I have removed it.
Thanks, i'm about to install one I just bought new, sealed in box, off facebook marketplace for $275 in a rental unit. The unit is heated via a nat gas space heater so not furnace to add a coil to. Mine is the 18k BTU one so just a tad larger.
U SAVED MY LIFE! My central unit died and i had to get window units for my house for the first time and those curtain clips had me stuck for literally an hour
Thanks for the video- I've got a 24.5" wide opening (not a window just a hole in the wall where my old AC unit is.) Think I could get it to fit if I don't install the accordion curtain things on the side and figure out something else?
Awesome video. Really helps. Mine starts extremely slow. And when it does rev up it doesn’t blow air like it sounds like on yours. I just got it yesterday what could this mean.
I'm not sure. It is very quiet, If it cools the room it is probably working normally. If it doesn't keep you cool I would call the manufacturer. Good luck!
Great unit - have had for several years now. Have to take it out of case today and out to back deck for deep cleaning - it is corrupted with mildew and mold beyond being able to use. The way these are designed is unfortunate... if they'd install and run a heating cycle every so often to get rid of condensation (which running in 'dry' mode will NOT do, it only removes humidity from the air, not your unit itself.) they'd solve a problem.. but they'd sell less units as well since most people just get a new one every few years anyway. I've found cleaning them once in their lifetime can double the life of the unit.
Can an ac bracket be a substitute for the wood instead? (Those outside brackets that rest against the wall). My window is so close to the ground I think even a brick would support it.
Great video. Looking into this unit or a Midea in order to cool my main level as my central air unit has a Freon leak. How is the unit holding up and is it a noisy unit??
Thanks for your video. We were trying to install the LG 10000 BTU unit today but stopped for the day when, like you, we found we have to install something like a 2x4 on the sill. But we have another problem. Our unit is being installed in the 2nd floor bedroom. Any ideas how to support the outside? It is hanging over a sloped roof on part of the house that is only one story.
Sorry you are running into problems. They sell A/C support brackets on amazon for $35 which would probably be the safest way to go. You should be able to get them at Home Depot or Lowes as well. Good luck with your installation. You will get it worked out.

I am hating the whole shell concept. Why did they do that? It doesn't make it all that easier for winter removal or installation. Mine was just as hard to pull out (18k btu)... I dumped it upside down to make it slide out, The foam included sucks... AND I must say thank you to you for the the wood block thing... that's important. What kind of window are they using for their design tests anyway? Those outside legs are terrible AND I was supplied with a different cross-style sliding kind that really looks useless. Once this thing goes in...it is staying in.
Question. How'd you get the little plastic glide into the slots? Approximately 4:24 in the video. I have been messing with it for 30 min+ and they just will not fit. Thanks!!
Just wondering, does the air conditioner have to really be taken out from the white casing cabinet? Can it just be installed putting it directly into the window with the support bracket and just screw to window like you would do to a 8k btu ac?
Thought I was getting a simple window air conditioner. For well over 500 dollars, you would think they would assemble it to where it's much easier to install. I'm not gonna be able to screw into the window sill so I think I'm just gonna get a more simple model. Haha thanks for the video though. Helped make up my mind
Do you think I can fit this in a window that is only 25.5” without the side skirts and build a wood support and screw the outter box to that? I already ordered it no turning back
I think it will work, you will just have to rig something to fill the gaps on the sides. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention when you already have ordered it. Good luck.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 ac unit came today and I wrapped the window seal with foam and it fits perfectly and snug with the support bracket. It’s not going anywhere
@rjlskate thanks for this!!! I ordered this without measuring as well and have the same measurements as you as i just realized 😅 now I know I have nothing to worry about
I think the 2x4 is a good idea since the front of the unit is screwed to it. I think it is required to use the 3 front screws whether a bracket is used or not.
Hello Scout. I'm thinking of buying a 12 K unit with those similar adjustable brackets that are supposed to bear on an outer sill. I haven't seen a house with outer window sills in a long while. I read you added an outside brace. Do mind me asking what you used? I'm thinking of attaching L angle brackets to the outside of the window.
The L brackets you mentions should work. I know there are universal brackets available to support window ac units. I made a support from a 2x4 as I was in a pinch. I think I will have a look at you L bracket idea. Thank You!
doesn't it weigh like 80+ lbs? how did you just lift it in like that? we want to buy it but we have to bring it up a ladder to put into our window and are scared we aren't going to be able to lift it
Just want to confirm, this model is a "smart" unit? Does it have an option on the unit or on the app where I can have it kick on say few hours before waking up to cool the room?
@@aaa000777 I'm glad it helped you. I made the video because the instruction manual was so poor. I wanted people to see it is a little more difficult than a smaller unit.
I bought one over the weekend and in the manual I saw that it had a lever to open and close vents. Now I'm looking at mine and I don't really see a level. Does this model have a lever?
Yes, the lever is on the right side and protrudes from the vent opening. You have to feed it through the vent when when you put the front cover on. It pulls out to allow fresh air or push in to recirculate for efficiency. Good luck!
Being an inverter unit, this air conditioner behaves differently than the old units. The fan and compressor both are controlled at variable speeds. If it is cooling the room it is doing it's job. If it is not cooling then I would call the LG helpline. Good luck and let us know what you find out, Scout.
Hi Scout! Thank you for taking time to make and upload this video. One thing before I proceed, just noticed the AC should not be installed n get direct sunlight. What do you think?
Mine is installed on the south side but there is some shade from trees. It has worked flawlessly so far. My guess is it is a matter of efficiency more than anything else. You might contact LG or an AC expert for clarification. Thanks for watching!
@@ScoutHomestead2869 thank you for response. I guess you haven't taken it down yet, but do you think we can take it down as a one whole piece? Or two separated external and internal part? Am I making sense? Or confusing you?
@@ScoutHomestead2869 oh I meant, off the hot season, the AC will be out of the windows. When you take it away from the windows, do you think I will have to remove the AC as a whole piece or I will have to pull the internal part first and then the external part second?
@@dongilpark7830 Yes, remove the internal part then the external. I plan to store it indoors in the off season as well. Should make it last much longer.
I discovered that rubber plug should be there. The owner's manual says there is a slinger fan which picks up water to increase efficiency of the unit. That plug allows the water to build up.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 Remove the plug and let the water drain. You will avoid a moldy mess, and the unit will last much longer. Yes, you will lose a little bit of efficiency, but you will be much better off in the long run. Kudos to LG for actually giving consumers the choice.
There are two brackets that come with the unit to support it on the outside. Those should be installed per the manufacturer. The unit is extremely heavy!
@@alejandrobeltran8409 Yes those are the legs. I added a n outside brace later for additional support since those would not work in my application. The unit is very heavy so there should be some outside support for safety reasons.
I got one over the weekend- when it starts up or in energy mode, something keeps making a weird sound. Can’t tell if it’s the compressor or fan. Any chance it might just be defective or poor install?
Could be defective. Mine is very quiet. I it does make a low whining sound when the compressor comes on which is different from non-inverter units. No clanging or anything abnormal.
Hi there. Just saw your message because I just installed one for my neighbor and the fan was making all kinds of crazy noises. I thought it was going to explode. I took it apart again to see if something was loose, but I didn’t see anything. I reinstalled it on the window and the noise was just as bad. The neighbor said it doesn’t sound normal, and I agreed. So they are retuning it and buying another model. So make sure that yours it not defective. Because ours was.
I never said they were not to be used. Said they didn't work for me. Based on your observation I did update the video to make it perfectly clear support is needed outside. Thank you for your input. I hope the video was otherwise helpful in your installation.
Let me ask you something and I hope you reply. Are u having thermostat issues? I bought this unit a few days ago for my back room, I have a main hvac system. I put it on energy saver and the unit, even though it blows cold, never shuts off unless I push the temp up. Basically it never gets below the desired temp to manually shut it off. Last night I set it to 74. My hvac system was set at 70. Woke up this morning my house said 70 degrees. The window unit was still running, i checked my app and it showed the house temp was 74. What ever I set this thing to it will get down to the desired temp but never enough below that temp to turn it off. I guess I'll call LG tonight. Was just wondering if u noticed the same thing? Weird thing is this is a 14k btu. I had an old 12kbtu that would cycle on off all day on energy savor. This LG is a bigger unit and will not cycle.
I keep mine on energy saver too. Mine runs continuously during the day, but it has been extremely hot and I'm cooling a large area. What I do notice is that I can hear the compressor speed go up and down frequently. I think the difference is that the old unit compressors were on or off, whereas with this inverter technology the compressor operates within an infinite range based on the temp. I would like to hear what LG says about it if you talk them.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 what u said about the inverter, I never thought about looking into that. And I am with you about the heat. I live in Houma Louisiana. I'm still gonna call tonight after I can confirm the temp of the room it's in. This is the 3rd window unit I have put in that room in about 15 yrs. First came with the house when I bought it. 2nd one just went out. I guess I am just use to them cycling on and off. But I did notice what you are saying about it speeding up and down. Maybe it is a different type of technology. Like I said the ac us blowing ice cold air. It just won't get below the temp to make it cycle off. No matter what my hvac is set to. But I know the cycle is working because when the room temp on my app says let's say 75. If I set the temp to 77 it turns off. Then back on when the temp hits 77. We shall see
@@ScoutHomestead2869 ok I just did a lot more research and according to what I read about the inverter technology they are made to run all the time. It blows at max untill it reaches the desired temp then it slows down. They are not meant to constantly cycle on and off. I wonder how that will look on my light bill with the unit always running. I still find it odd though that the temp sensor on the unit is reading hotter than my hvac system.
@@WhoDat1976do you still enjoy yours and still working? I also live in Louisiana, cannot make up my mind if I should go for this LG unit or Frigidaire 15k btu or 14500btu Toshiba…any input appreciated

The L brackets you mentions should work. I know there are universal brackets available to support window ac units. I made a support from a 2x4 as I was in a pinch. I think I will have a look at you L bracket idea. Thank You!
So , it’s now that quiet? I want to know if you still can hear the compressor noise?
It is very quiet. Much quieter than my Toshiba 8kbtu. Also, it gradually speeds up so there is not the sudden sound of the compressor kicking in.
doesn't it weigh like 80+ lbs? how did you just lift it in like that? we want to buy it but we have to bring it up a ladder to put into our window and are scared we aren't going to be able to lift it
It is very heavy.
Just want to confirm, this model is a "smart" unit? Does it have an option on the unit or on the app where I can have it kick on say few hours before waking up to cool the room?
Yes it is a smart unit you can control with your phone. I haven't used that function yet but it is there.
Dd you skip step #4 on page 15? You are supposed to swing out the ventilation lever. before putting on the front panel.
Yes I swung it out.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 I wasn’t sure if all of the models have that feature. I just got done installing mine and your video was helpful. Thanks!
Good luck!
How long is the power cord?
Do you think that the unit could possibly squeeze into a 26.5" width opening?
I don't think it would fit. The issue is the side skirts will not compress more than that.
Take off one of the side skirts and put that side flush with the window frame and sandwich in a piece of foam insulation.
Hello! I’ve just installed this unit and it turns on and works for a little and then the fan just stops working but it still says it’s on. Any ideas?
Being an inverter unit, this air conditioner behaves differently than the old units. The fan and compressor both are controlled at variable speeds. If it is cooling the room it is doing it's job. If it is not cooling then I would call the LG helpline. Good luck and let us know what you find out, Scout.
What if a 2x4 does not fit for my window sill? And the screws don’t reach my window sill.
You will need to find a board or combination of boards that will fit. Good luck.
@@dongilpark7830 You have to separate it to remove the screws that go into the window frame.
Any issues with the window being 54 inches wide?
You'd just have the curtains further out. Not sure how long they get but I'm pretty sure it's long enough for your width.
@@Aftmost17 Thanks. The curtains it came with weren't long enough but Home Depot sells a curtain extension that worked out
Hey question? What’s the lowest degree it goes
It can be adjusted to 60 degrees
There's a rubber plug on the bottom of the unit do you have the Drain the water I pulled it and drained the water I hope I didn't messed up
I removed it as well to let the water drain, but I didn't see anything in the manual. Maybe someone knows for sure.
I discovered that rubber plug should be there. The owner's manual says there is a slinger fan which picks up water to increase efficiency of the unit. That plug allows the water to build up.
Hi, I also had this question. So we should not remove the rubber plug? Thanks.
@@KidKolombian22 right. Leave the plug.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 Remove the plug and let the water drain. You will avoid a moldy mess, and the unit will last much longer. Yes, you will lose a little bit of efficiency, but you will be much better off in the long run. Kudos to LG for actually giving consumers the choice.
So just to be clear, there is nothing from the outside holding up the unit? It’s installed solely from around the face of it?
There are two brackets that come with the unit to support it on the outside. Those should be installed per the manufacturer. The unit is extremely heavy!
@@ScoutHomestead2869 those are the legs you mention at about 12:20 correct? You forewent those?
@@alejandrobeltran8409 Yes those are the legs. I added a n outside brace later for additional support since those would not work in my application. The unit is very heavy so there should be some outside support for safety reasons.
@@ScoutHomestead2869 my unit is way to high to get at but it's at the back of the cottage where no one goes so if she falls out she falls out
Can anyone recommend on how to install the brackets for the outside
I have a brick wall & ledge, gentle 5 degree slope that these brackets work fine on. They're designed & put in the box for a reason.
I never said they were not to be used. Said they didn't work for me. Based on your observation I did update the video to make it perfectly clear support is needed outside. Thank you for your input. I hope the video was otherwise helpful in your installation.
Thank you so much for your help!
You are very welcome. I'm glad it helped!
How are you liking it? Before I spend 4-500$ I want to make sure it’s good 👍🏻
It is excellent and worth every penny in my opinion.
This was written 10 months ago, are you still enjoying it and no problems? Thinking about buying this, your installation video helpful thanks much!
I also live in Louisiana, cannot make up my mind if I should go for this LG unit or Frigidaire 15k btu or 14500btu Toshiba…any input appreciated
catsmewlaserspew catsmewlaserspew I got it figured out. Had to read the manual. But yes this is the best unit I have owned. My step dad bought one for his camp and my neighbor bought one for his party room. Highly recommend
Lg makes the best ac imo but why would they have the worst installation process for the curtains 😂
I agree completely.
Thank you!
You are welcome. Glad it helped!
