    Great review! Thanks for posting. Also, I just recently became aware of Best Buy's price matching. Amazon's "fulfilled by amazon" products, and also B&H online prices are matched right in the store. The manager even threw in some other goodies and called it a bundle. Cheers.

    It allows you to communicate with multiple flashes and send signals for flash power automatically if your camera supports it :)

    yes it will. The infrared receiver is meant for that exact use :) Any flash will cause it to trigger.

  • @GeekwGlasseslive
    @GeekwGlasseslive  12 років тому +1

    Actually any flash will trigger this unit. The key is making sure the light is captured by the infrared sensor on the front of the unit. You can use this flash with an old disposable film camera. It detects any flash and triggers off it.

    You will need a remote trigger set up. You put a transmitter on the Hotshoe of your camera and a reciver on the flash. PocketWizard are kinda the most recognized brand out there but you can find less expensive ones that will work...just google remote flash triggers.

  • @GeekwGlasseslive
    @GeekwGlasseslive  11 років тому

    Well a couple questions you need to ask yourself. A: Do you have the budget for the 600EX? B: Do you need the 600EX? A flash is a flash and it wont "get old" and not work anymore, personally I would add another 430EX to my bag before I spent the cash on a 600EX I dont need that much power nor the extra features is has. If this is your first external flash, save some cash get the 430EX and then expand on that :) Just my 2 cents

  • @GeekwGlasseslive
    @GeekwGlasseslive  11 років тому

    It will work just fine on any Canon SLR hotshoe, as for off camera you will need either a transmitter or you can do how I do for now and just direct your on camera flash to trigger the of camera flash if it will not interfere with your shot.

    I have a 270 as well, its obviously better than the popup however there are no controls on it...its basically a stronger version of the popup. However you can aim it up....I use mine as a trigger for my 430. The 430 is a great flash, its not the best out there but it works in most situations just fine. I would not get anything more expensive personally I might actually add a second 430 to my bag soon. :)

    @WylunCustoms I base my comment on my use of a tamron 18-200 on my T1i and then having the sigma 18-250. The build quality of Sigma is much more to my liking over tamron and the optics are better in my opinion as well. The price diff between tamron and sigma is very little but you get much better built and functioning lenses. Also my tamron was much slower at autofocus as well as a good 3times louder when the motor was trying to focus. If I I'm not buying canon I will buy sigma over tamron.

    The T3i does not have a "wireless" setting or a transmit setting for that matter. Neither does my 60D. You use the onboard flash to trigger the on cam flash via IR. If you do not want the on body flash messing up your shots then you will need to get a set of remote transmitter/receivers like the PocketWizards. Google it

    @GeekwGlasseslive not a fan of tamron!? lol. im thinking of getting the tamron 70-300mm vc lens.. pretty decent price for what you get i feel.. if i dont get that then i'll just buy the canon 55-250 as that is the best price=quality i feel .. but just cant deny the huge size of the tamron and how cool it looks!

    Just bought my T3i today now I'm looking for an external flash. Obviously the pop-up sucks for indoors.. I've seen other YT reviews of the 270 and they say it %^&.. Should I just go ahead and pick up the 430ex and why? Will be shooting portraits.. some indoor shots at weddings at parties.

    Alright and one follow up question. What set of triggers would you recommend. I plan to shoot off camera.I know the pop up flash has to be up if i were to shoot without the triggers to trigger the optical sensor but i dont want it to affect my exposure. Also im a car photographer so the will be placed, sometimes, in akward and distant positions.

    Great review! How would you make it by using only a single 430 EX II mounted on camera (with diffusor) in a wedding for example? Is it neccesary with several flashes and assistants or can you make it by only using on camera flash?

    • @GeekwGlasseslive
      @GeekwGlasseslive  8 років тому

      +Agnor Bertheussen No real need for off camera flash to shoot a wedding unless you plan to have a "canned posing station" then it can help to have a second fill flash...but I have never seen a primary wedding photog use anything other than on camera.
