    I appear to of missed some comments thanks to the UA-cam spam system being a bit rubbish. If anyone has questions still feel free to email me.

    I’ve kept one of these in my landscape/wildlife bag for a few years now with a couple Yongnuo 603II transceivers. I use it for foreground interest or lighting a specific area of my image, but I never ever use it for birds. There is evidence that they damage raptor's eyes and the jury is out for other birds so that means no to me as I’d rather not take the chance. My one gripe is that there is no bounce card, I know it’s no biggy I can use white paper or card but I always forget to put some in. You dropped yours 13' and I’ve dropped mine multiple times on to hard surfaces and it still works, so they are tough little speedlights. I remember you saying you’ve moved on to strobes with internal Li-Ion batteries now, but my 430ex II is my only Canon strobe I have unless I have any very old ones somewhere. I’ve never set up any custom settings on it and I'd forgotten it had a modelling light on it and I frequently alternate between my 5DII and 7DII so I need to look at that setting too. A very useful video, as yours tend to be, and you have put some new life into my little old Speedlight. Thank you.

    Hi everyone. I will be covering more about using flash on my new channel ***** in the near future. It wont be specifically about this flash or any flash as it will be manual flash to start with and off camera.

    I thought my 430EX was broken since I couldn't pass the number 6 on the custom function. But, I then noticed my model wasn't the II model. Oh well, I don't use a flash that often so it doesn't really matter. One might ask, then why even buy a Speedlite when I could just use the built in flash? I found the answer the first time I compared the performance between the two flashes. Without question I would buy the Speedlite again because it does so much more than the body flash, that was readily apparent the first time I compared the two. Its all about control of light and the Speedlite gives you more control and that is a good thing.
    Thanks for the informative tutorial, one that I have to refer back to due to the subject matter being covered with so little time allowed.

      Hi John S Thanks for the comment. Indeed off camera flash offers far more control of your light and you have more options to modify the light as well. Glad the video helped. The 430EX is still a solid unit and can be picked up pretty cheap used these days. I would buy a used older canon over a cheap Chinese flash any day of the week.

    thanks Richard for help, i guess i did something wrong by playing on buttons, my pilot wont get red i cant hear recharging power but zooming and sleep after 10sec before i practice this issue i did try to use my 340ii with st-e2 & ex580. before that test it was normal.

    You say the Guide No. is in feet and is the 'distance that it will work'. Would you like to check that? The GN for the 430 EX II is 43m (hence its name) and is the working distance multiplied by the f no. for decent exposure: e.g. about 4m at f11.

    the "zoom" button also puts the unit into "slave mode" with a long push. don't think that was mentioned.

    Hi, whats the main diferrence between the 430EX II and the 580EX? I want to get one of them, but the 580EX happen to be much more expensive, would it be worth it spending some more money buying the 580EX instead of the 430EX II or even the 430EX? Thanks much for your help!!

    Very interesting as I'm looking to but an external flash but needed some guidance. Do you know if it's compatible with the Canon EOS 450d? Thanks

    • @rickjbradbury
      @rickjbradbury  9 років тому

      Hi Karen M Yes the 430exii is compatible with the 450D. You can also go for the 430ex used to save money but you lose the ability to change the power in manual mode by 1/3rd stop values (fine tuning power output). You can find used 430exii around also.

    Hi, When I have my camera set on 1/64 for the flash, and everything else auto, the flash is ridiculously bright, even though it SHOULD be putting out only 1/64 of the power. I dont understand this or how and why I cant get the perfect amount of light that ETTL provides for me. Please help!

    Sir, can it be used with Nikon and it works perfectly?

    • @rickjbradbury
      @rickjbradbury  3 роки тому

      I'm afraid not as it's a Canon speedlite. You can however use manual wireless triggers and use ti off camera as a manual only flash (no TTL).
