Manic Monday was specifically written for the Bangles... by PRINCE! He fell in love with the Group after seeing them in Concert!
Could you imagine how they would've looked if he had had given them the "Prince Make over" (like he did with Vanity, Sheile E. and Apollonia).
You can just tell this was a Prince song. Would have fit nicely on the Around the world in a day Album
How did he know these things like he ever had a regular job?!
He actually was smitten with Susanna Hoffs, as were most of us males at the time
I think he fell for the lead singer who was a dream girl.
@@brynneholt1990 He grew up poor in a pretty bad neighborhood in Minneapolis.
Asia & BJ, you'll love their "Hazy Shade of Winter", "If She Knew What She Wants" and "Eternal Flame"!!
C'mon now, you can't just skip Walk Like An Egyptian. That song may be dumb as hell but it's so much fun you can't even mind.
@@meganstorm3248 all true! It will get many recommendations I'm sure
If you react to the Bangles “Hazy Shade of Winter” you should also react to the original by Simon and Garfunkel. Both great versions with different flair.
@@ohmightywez That & Eternal Flame are my can't-miss tracks for the Bangles, along with Manic Monday. It's a bit basic of a list, but I was never a real fan - my logic being that even if you're NOT a real fan, everybody who loves music loves those tracks, even if the group isn't that high on your list.
It's always more impressive to me when a group can do that, really. There's no arguing taste - if a band is somebody's favorite, of course they're going to have a ton of stuff they'd recommend. But if it's one of those that you forget about until it comes on, when you're suddenly just bopping along & singing the chorus even though you haven't heard it in ages? That's pure craftsmanship.
@@surlechapeau Hey people! They are ALL GOOD!👍However I DO favor "Hazy Shade Of Winter"
R.I.P. PRINCE 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊
Prince wrote this song.
Didn't know that
Yep, heard it at work and I looked it up, love his version
He wrote for a group he had Apollonia Six, but the label asked him for a song for The Bangles and it sounds better with them.
Written by Prince for Susanna Hoffs and her cohorts. Susanna is one of my fave female singers, got to see The Bangles live back in the 80's at a show with Mr. Mister as the opener.
Prince under the name of Christopher. Susanna Hoffs the lead singer at 63 still looks as young as she did at 27! Running,Jogging,Dancing and Walking keeps her fit and a diet keeps her trim! And moisturizers keeps her skin youthful!
Oh thats why the verses sound like 1999!!
Where and when did you see the Bangles with Mr. Mister as the opening act?
One of the best parts of The Bangles is the four gals do everything themselves, instruments, vocals, fun group.
Prince wrote this song for them.
Prince wrote this alliterative song under the name "Christopher" (the name of his character in his movie Under the Cherry Moon), and it became the Bangles' first hit. Prince discovered the group after coming across the video for one of their early singles, "Hero Takes a Fall," on MTV. He showed up at a Bangles gig in Los Angeles, then he put together a very special mixtape for the group - one with two original songs he had written and wanted them to record. In an interview with Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, she explained: "I went and picked up a cassette. It had two songs on it and one of them was 'Manic Monday.' The other was called 'Jealous Girl.' I have to look up that cassette. I know I have it. It's in a box somewhere. The demo just had a girl singing it. I think he was offering us the track so we'd sing it the same way. But we wanted to do the whole thing from the ground up."
Susannah Hoffs was THE Face of her day, and she is still a beauty.
Prince was a genius.
Same group that sings Walk Like an Egyptian. Look at BJ’s shirt. Haha! This song brings back so many memories. Never step outta the house unless every wisp of big hair is perfect, make up is art and high heels match the right shade of blue! Ohhh the 80s were all about the”look”! What a fun time to be young! At work or play, we just had so much fun.
Yes we did.
🥰 yes we did!!!
Ahh, the 80’s. Aqua Net, parachute pants….

1985 Baby! A hard ERA to forget.
I had a crush on Susanna Hoffs in the 80's. She's the one singing lead on this song. Those eyes of here's.. Wow. They were an awesome group. They are still together playing today or were. Micki Steele isn't the bass player any more. I think they got their original bass player back but Micki was so cool and sang. I love the Bangles. Check out ....In Your Room.....Walk Like An Egyptian.....Eternal Flame.....and Walking Down Your Street. Thanks for the video guys. Love the channel 😊
Yes sir....the 👀 drew us all in.
Who didn't have a crush on her?
Susanna Hoffs was also in a movie called The All Nighter. Check it out. 😊👍🔥
I had a girl crush on her too... She’s GORGEOUS, and that voice! Just divine! ❤️
She is also Gorgeous in her 60's!!!!!
This is a great 80’s song.
They had so many good songs. Miss Hoff was so pretty. "Eternal Flame" "Walk Like An Egyptian" "Hazy Shade Of Winter" "In Your Room" "If She Knew What She Wants" "Be With You" "Walking Down Your Street" "Going Down To Liverpool" "Hero Takes A Fall" Susanna Hoffs--My Side Of The Bed. Life is all about being in a hurry.
She still looks pretty much the same, in her 60's...
@@safromnc8616 I did notice that. Still pretty.
Hazy shade Of winter is a jam.
Prince wrote this song and had a crush on the lead singer
Hell I had a crush on her.
Every straight man on earth has had a crush on Susanna Hoffs. And she stayed hot for 40 years.
Classic track written by prince
“In Your Room” is another great one, and “If She Knew What She Wants” ❤️
Always thought Susanna Hoffs, their singer, was kinda cute. This one should have featured the video.
A classic song, still awesome to this day.
Walk like an Egyptian is awesome too. Love the bangles…brought my dad to the concert in 1988. Was the best.
The line why did my lover have to pick last night to get down is the one line of the song that proves Prince wrote it.
Good one guys.
Yes...I love that line as well and I agree...So very Prince.
@@christikirk7265 Everytime I hear her sing it, in my mind, I hear Prince.
We were all in love with suzanna hoffs.
Hazy Shade of Winter - official video is a MUST. You also need to do Eternal Flame and If She Knew What She Wants. ALL are GEMS.
Definitely check 'Hazy Shade of Winter' great song by these ladies
Per Wikipedia Manic Monday" is a song by the American pop rock band the Bangles, and the first single released from their second studio album, Different Light (1986). It was written by American musician Prince using the pseudonym "Christopher" and was intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984. Lyrically, it describes a woman who is waking up to go to work on Monday, wishing it was still Sunday so she could continue relaxing.
I imagine in the 80s people scrambling on Monday mornings in NYC listening to Manic Monday on their walkmans as they tried to catch the train/subway to get to work on time!
My husband was in love with Bangles, he saw them in concert. You need to see a video of them, gorgeous and talented. Have too listen to more of them, like Walk Like an Egyptian. 🤗❤️🔥
PRINCE WROTE MANIC MONDAY FOR THE BANGLES 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
APPOLLINA SAID SHE COWROTE IT WITH HIM
Awe you got there first☹️🙂
Yeah he wrote it for Apollonia 6 but he gave it The Bangles in hopes of getting with the lead singer
I was about to post the very same nugget.
They are a Band. They all play all their own instruments ❤
Back when it was released the DJ played this song every Monday as I went to work
I'M SURPRISED THE CATCH LYICS HAVE THE SAME VIBE AS 1999 LYRIC THE MELODYS OR WHAT EVER IT CALL.
Have mercy... Suzanna Hoffs was absolutely stunning (to a 20 year old soldier- overseas, watching the new-fangled MTV in the mess hall)... Thanks for memories.
"I was dreamin' when I wrote this, Forgive me if it goes astray"
Yep, Prince ripped off himself. And boy, did he do it in style! :)
A great song done by a great group. They are all so talented. Susanna Hoff's voice is that of an angel
The beginning of the first verse has the same tune as the beginning of "1999". "I was dreaming when I wrote this..."
Prince wrote this song for the Bangles. When he wrote or produced someone his style was to record a complete song himself complete with “guide vocals” and send the complete track to the artist to add their vocals. That is common today but in the 80’s was practically unheard of aside from Prince and cohorts Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The Bangles loved to song but said, “Hey, we’re musicians, we don’t add vocals to someone else’s song. They went into the studio and recorded the song the old fashion way with each member contributing.
Funny thing is that Prince never worked a regular job, but he still catches that spirit of starting off the week behind on everything.
HAHA I laughed so hard when Asia asked BJ "why you gotta make me feel bad about it?"
The rumor was Prince wrote the song for Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles. Apparently he was smittened by her & hoped to win her affection.
I always said if the Beatles had been girls and came along in the '80s, they'd have been the Bangles. Check out their hits, "Eternal Flame" and my favorite, "Walk Like An Egyptian."
Wife here.., this was my jam in "junior high"!!..As a HUGE PRINCE fan this is very special to me..Thanks for the insightful view as always you guys!!!..Always a hurry Ms.Asia..
Prince wrote this song for this band. You can totally hear The Purple One - Prince style.
Your Icon picture said Maniac, not Manic. Just a heads up cuz! 😉✌😎
Prince wrote this for them. A music prof I know could identify this as a Prince (or at least a "Minneapolis Sound") song.
This song was written by prince, especially for them. He had a crush on the lead singer.
This is why I chose Mondays as my day off. Problem solved. ✌️
To our amazing Purple Rain Prince, he wrote this song & he did sing this song. He is the genius 👏🏽 🙌🏽
And every Mondays when I work, yep me, my coworkers, managers & the customers, we all felt that way!
And the Bangles, maaaan they were the chef's kisses of the 80s.
This was a fun song😁 and my memories are making me smile even more!!!😂 Haven't heard this in sooo long, but right now.... it's transported me back to those good ole days. Y'all are too funny😂 LOVE IT!!!❤️❤️
I had forgotten abiut this hit of the Bangles. Hazy Shade of Winter is my favorite but Walk Like and Egyptian is good too.
KOOL manic Monday for my Sunday lol thank guys...💯🧡
Great writing and arrangement by The Purple One. Damn we all watched him die over 3 days. Miss you Prince! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes this song was from January 27, 1986. The song was originally written for Apollonia 6 in 1984 by Prince. Prince then decided to hold the song until he gave it to the Bangles. This was the Bangles break out hit. It reached number 2 on Billboards Hot 100.
A fun song!! Definitely a good one!! The Bangles rocked!!
Written by the one and only PRINCE! He also recorded his own version of it
I got to see The Bangles on the '84 Fun Tour, opening for Cyndi Lauper!
Probably my fave Bangles tune is "Hazy Shade of Winter' which was used in the movie "Less than Zero". (A Simon and Garfunkel cover which they may have made better....)
Don't forget, 'Rainy days and Mondays always let you down'.
I loved the Bangles...especially this song...written by the genius...Prince!
Her voice! 🥰
Love this song💖❤️💖💕💓
they loved their bottles of vodka
Susanna Hoffs in the 80's 🔥👀 lol BJ-"Come ooon you dont remember this song" Asia- "No,why you gotta make me feel bad about it"!!?? 😂😂😂 Prince has a version of this(On YT)during a rehearsal i believe can def hear his style in this song
Prince had a thing for Susanna Hoffs and gave her this song.
This song was actually written by Prince
Y'all should check out the Bangles earlier stuff like, "Going Down to Liverpool," "Dover Beach," and "Hero Takes a Fall"...much better than "Manic Monday" or "Walk Like an Egyptian," which did make them more popular.
I agree with you! This whole album was fantastic! 👏🏻👏🏻
FIRST...and Prince wrote it! lol
80's were my teen years. I took my little sister to see The Bangles.
Prince did NOT write this song for The Bangles! Sheesh! Why do people so readily repeat lies? He wrote it for Apollonia and it appeared on an early unreleased version the Apollonia 6 album. He decided it was "too musical" for her, and 18 months later offered it to The Bangles. His 1983 version (from way before he had ever heard of The Bangles) was released a couple of years ago on The Originals CD.
Love You Guys! Glad you enjoyed this one. Theses 4 ladies made their group Fun & we all took note!
Another 80's hit that was a big part of my childhood! What teenage boy didn't have a huge crush on Susannah Hoffs? 😍
Prince can write any type of music.
The piano though😲😆😆
The first time I ever heard my middle daughter sing was during karaoke, and she sang this song..I was amazed...had Never heard her sing anything growing up.
Prince had a group Vanity 6 he put together Denice Matthews R.I.P(Vanity) from the group who he had a relationship were also 🔥 she starred in the movie The Last Dragon another 80s classic
Check out Eternal Flame by them, the one that takes lead vocals in this song has an insanely stunning voice in this song.
Man, Prince always made sexy sound fun. A rare talent that. Of course it doesn't hurt having those lyrics sung by Susannah Hoff's sultry voice either.
The Bangles are excellent live. Saw them at the Troubadour in LA and Orange County Fair along with Heart. If they do a live show near you go see them. They’re older but still good.
Maniac Monday was written by Prince for them. Eternal Flame is their best song.
Susanna Hoffs was every teens wet dream back in those days lol
REACT TO THE BAGELS ETERNAL FLAME OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO
Oh yes these are definitely Prince lyrics 😏🎶
Great song I love that one. Thank you
There is a music video for this song
Prince wrote it..he just loves to write hits for other bands and singers
Mondays are such a bummer.
such a sugary-sweet pop track but my goodness it's so good in it's relatable simplicity, production is so crisp and clear, it's perfect in it's pop simplicity...they probably worked on this for weeks haha
Just so you guys know this song was written by Prince
Written by Prince!
Nice Prince lyrics there.
I believe Prince wrote this song for them.
I thought I disliked this song and almost didn't " click," but I knew the " bangels." In my town, in the 80s, there was a feeling of calm, slow down, go to church day. And those who didn't attend church STAYED home during the early morning hours. Not today. Sunday has become " hectic monday." No sense of peace , so now when Monday comes, it's not hectic but chaotic. A " skool sh.o.o.t.e.r" was asked why? She said, " because I hate Mondays " it can go that deep for some.
***** PRINCE wrote this for APPOLONIA 6 in 1984, but decide to hold onto it until it was a breakout hit for THE BANGLES.
Fabulous 80s
Hello 8th grade! Thanks for the flashback!
hehe... Maniac Monday in your thumbnail 😋
Prince wrote this. he was dating Susanna Hoffs at the time!
Asia said thats why she late 👍😂
So much love ❤️ for Susan Hoff
You can tell what stage of life people are in by their reaction to the end.
20's - late because of sex last night? Relatable, excusable.
Years of working? Need that time to lay out my cloths and get some sleep.
Oh man I just freaked out a little. In the 6th minute, I saw that woman's face to the left of Asia. Before my eyes focused, it looked like a woman was lying down behind them.
