I don’t understand why so many people struggle with the, “True Touch,” touchpad. Yes, it’s different than a normal touchpad, but when I test drove an RDX it was pretty easy to acclimate to. Since you can rearrange the icons, you can put the most used ones in the corners and it’s a quick and smooth experience.
These two might be the most relatable “car guys” on UA-cam. The seem like they’re just happy to be here and not as arrogant as the more established guys.
Great video. Quick comment about lock button on trunk - car can be programmed to lock when you leave it's proximity with the key in pocket. So no button needed it'll just lock which is even more convenient.
Took one of these on a backroad on a wet road and the amount of grip and confidence this thing gives you is insane. Where I was expecting to lose grip I just had more and more of it and the awd system literally rotates the car around a corner. Beautifully executed.
A lot of people didn’t know that RDX use the same engine from Accord 2.0T with the 10 speeds trans. The set up that can beat other vehicle in its class when its come to off the line acceleration.
99.99% of people have no clue what SHAWD is let alone how to use it. Most people think AWD means all wheel stop. No clue that off throttle means zero traction let alone how to use torque vectoring.
I think Acura knocked it outta the park with this new generation of the RDX ~~ with this segment it really depends on your preference since luxury means many different things to a lot of people. Acura's take is still really good and its a good sporty luxuty SUV to have 🙌
I think you meant Buick Envision. The Enclave is too big and has three rows. I also think the NX might be closer than the RX for the Lexus competition.
I literally logged in on my phone just to comment this. Did they really just say the buick Enclave was the direct competitor for the RDX? Also yes definitely the NX, not the RX and also the XT4, not the XT5...
I looked at EVERY car in this mid range SUV class and RDX is hands down the best along with Mazda. I chose the RDX because the A Spec truly makes it feel like a car worth way more than what I got it for. Very happy owner of RDX!
Besides Mazda has no reliability, once warranty is up, MAzda turbo + engine are expensive to maintain. Acura has better reliability and excellent resale value
I had a Mazda CX7 2008 GT turbo, fun car to drive but after the turbo went out, piston leaking oil, my engine was burning oil. Gave it up at 59k miles because the fix was too expensive and nobody really wanted to touch my car as the proprietary software for service could only be done at dealership and you know those guys are just ready to rip customers off!
I own a MdX 2011 with Sh-AWD and i love my SUV. Gas mileage sucks but the 3.7L engine has a lot of power and its a base model. I have 110k miles and no issies with my car.
Despite all the competition, the Acura & Lexus will always turn out to be more reliable and depreciate less than the competition... Acura looks better than the Lexus to me. This A Spec trim is a no-brainer
Good job boys! The RDX just works so well especially in Canada where we have to deal, with crappy roads. Having a front to back AWD system makes the RDX feel very secure in all conditions. I’ve driven the 2022 RDX with adaptive suspension and the difference between comfort and sport are noticeable. Agreed on the 2021 and older RDX the difference was hard to feel. Definitely a great all rounder and if I was looking for a smaller SUV this would be in my driveway.
@@mv3380 Seems to me you don't anything about plastics, I been dealing with Honda, Toyota and Subaru in plastics almost 30 years. No big deal just saying.
I bought my 2020 Acura RDX right after your first review of this SUV! I opted for the Elite trim (I think it's Technology in America) because I didn't want the red dash cluster. One thing I hate about the SUV is that it doesn't have a digital speedometer in the middle, as you see in the video, it's nice to see they added that in the 2022 RDX. There is actually a lock button for the car on the trunk. The button is right beside the trunk release, it took me two months to figure that out haha Also, wouldn't this be more comparable to the 2022 Lexus NX just because you get three-row on the RX?
Yep, the A-Spec Elite is awesome. Especially the blue one with ebony interior ;) Super comfortable, easy driving and fun car. P.S. The sound is 100% pumped in in Sport. P.S. 2: there is a definitive suspension comfort difference between Sport and Comfort. P.S. 3 Canada has allocation for 15 of those PMC edition cars. I almost got one, but it never came from the production plant after 2 months of waiting...
@@boy638 No, I mean I waited for 2 months for it to come. And it never came. So I settled for the A-SPEC Elite (also ordered at the same time in December)
Acura always executes. My wife had a 2012 TSX with Tech package and we loved it. Power was a little lacking with the 2.4 liter but very smooth and fuel efficient. I love that Acura has kept almost everything physical and analog, especially the gauge cluster. Touch screens and digital clusters can be too much sometimes.
I have a 22 aspec (no advance for me) and I love it. I would have loved to see a fully digital gauge cluster like Audi is doing but I still love the analog (even if they are hard to see in sun). It is annoying that remote start doesn't come standard for the aspec although you can pay for the acura link subscription (which has been disappointing for me) instead of having a key fob. All in all though, I love this vehicle and it's great fun to drive for a small SUV at a better price point than bmw/audi and a few others.
The pmc edition rdx is available in Canada. Limited numbers. Also walk away auto lock solves your hatch lock concern. To the right of the outer tailgate handle there's a small button to lock and alarm the vehicle.
I have 2019 A-Spec SHAWD. 72K miles. The vehicle has been a gem. Had very spirited drive through some of the Catskills mountains in NY. Looking to keep several more years.
Great video, I really like the daily driving format and think you should definitely talk about gas cost (regular vs super, l/100k, cost per year) and gas range since for regular use it’s a very important thing to consider. You could even talk about relative insurance cost for a specific vehicle ( cheap vs expensive)
Agreed! I think the addition of gas prices along with the cost per year would be wonderful. Insurance cost would be tricky, I'm 99% sure they base how much you pay mostly on area, and # of accidents per age group, gender and a whole bunch of factors. BUT a good range would be nice!
I agree, or maybe just a specific warning for high insurance cars like a STI. Or they could find a sponsorship/partnership with an insurance company to give more details on average cars
@straightpipes My 2021 RDX Tech does have a lock button for the trunk. It’s a small button, located on the outside, right of the button to open your trunk. I’m sure all of the trims have it, it’s just easy to miss it
The RDX offers walk away locking, so theoretically, the car locks once the hatch closes and you walk away. Usually even does a one signal beep when the hatch and all doors are closed, beeps again once you walk away to notify that the doors are locked
Yuri Jakub would you go with the GV70 2.5T or rdx a spec? I lean toward GV70 for looks and interior and the rdx for handling and powertrain. The touchpad in the rdx does not bother me. SH-AWD is legit. Are baby shades a dealer accessory that can be added ?
The Gv70 is 8k more in top trim and also 7k more in base model. Powertrain , not sure how you can beat honda 4 cylinders. Sure hp is higher on the Gv70 but its just known that honda 4 cylinders are one of the best in the business. The Gv70 has a more unique interior tho and arguably nicer
2.5L GV70 in Sport Prestige trim is pretty comparable priced to a RDX ASpec Advanced. I test drove both and felt the Genesis had far more power on tap compared to the Acura. Handling wise both felt good, really the only thing that I think the Acura crushes all competition is with the ELS Sound System and a great heads up display. Both are AWD Vehicles except the Genesis is RWD based while Acura is Front wheel drive based using SHAWD to imitate a RWD based setup.
@@rickyrich93 Yeah you're right. That RWD architecture is just nicer for sure. The ELS sound is comparable to cars that cost 120k ! Hyundai kia genesis just scare me due to the random engine fire problems. Just a month ago they released a statement telling customers to make sure they park their vehicles outside incase they ignite and are inside a garage. Obviously honda has had problems with the 1.5T when it first came out but it was oil dilution. The 2.0T has been well tested and can seem to run for ever. Not sure if someone who buys an suv in this class cares but i would.
@@rickyrich93 How do the suspension and sound dampening compare btw GV70 and RDX? Also did any one of them make you feel more comfortable and confident (felt stable) than the other while driving?
All Honda / Acura products with smart entry have walk away auto lock. So, for most people that'll be enabled and there would be no reason to push the lock button on the trunk. But otherwise, great review as always!
This is my exact ride! Agree with 95% with your feedback. The one thing I think we're getting sucked in to is the touchscreen. Every car I tested with touchscreens were distracting to change anything and it makes you constantly look down from the road. Hated how the luxury brands force $5+k packages in you when everything is covered in 3 total packages (base, a spec, plat elite a spec) Other car is a manual BMW 340XI so wasn't looking for a something overly aggressive. This is great for a family of 4 + dog
Agree on the touchscreen thing. I don't understand the gripes some people have about the true touch pad. We have a 2021 RDX that my wife daily drives, and I drive a Ram with the giant touchscreen. I prefer the touch pad setup in the Acura over my truck now. So much easier and less distracting.
Great review. RDX is the only Acura SUV I would consider. I have an older 2014 RX350 which is a boat but is an amazing highway cruiser. The tech set up would drive me nuts.
@@DEVILTAZ35 hahaha Lexus literally has the ugliest looking suvs. The grille on the RX and NX is just unforgivable and looks like predator. Acura has a very sleek and sporty design that has good body lines and not an oversized grille.
The one real huge problem with that car is it drinks gas on the highway. The car has a much bigger fuel tank than my ilx but it uses half a tank to go the same distance.
@@JokerG16 its cheaper to make and when they do the EPA testing, the car is on a dyno with the turbo at mechanical minimum because theres no wind resistance. No boost=best fuel economy. In reality the turbo is making constant boost on highway driving.
Enable the sport meter “always show”. Then adjust your right foot patterns by looking at the boost gauge. Red is boost and purple is vacuum. Best I’ve got is 24.9 MPG highway cruising on 93 octane.
Bought a 2021 RDX A-spec last year and really like almost everything about it. We have some minor gripes/annoyances but nothing major. Overall I feel its a perfectly blended midsize SUV between luxury and sportiness. Its my wife's daily driver and has the right amount of luxury for her without breaking the bank, and for the times I'm driving it has just enough sportiness to have some fun with and reminisce about having a sports car again one day. If there is one thing I really wish it had it would be the digital speedometer. Hoping they add that to the 2021's through a software update since its now available on the 2022's. Its the exact same system so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.
This is exactly why I’m going to buy one this spring. I want my wife’s car to be sporty enough that I actually enjoy driving it since I daily drive a tacoma now instead of a fun sedan 😅
Yep. I drive a Ram 1500 and don't get me wrong I love my truck and will probably always daily drive a truck, but we use my wife's car for the most part when we go places together or as a family (unless its something where we need the truck's size or capabilities), so its nice that its fun to drive. She keeps it in comfort mode all the time but I switch it to sport/sport+ when I drive and its great! @@Caleb_Johnson
Traded my "Heavy booty" 2022 Lincoln Aviator Reserve/Jet package yesterday on the 2022 RDX A Spec package. No regrets, it's quick and not so big like the Aviator, it's perfect for what I need this car for!!!!
I also really love this SUV. I daily-drove one myself a few months ago. Part of me still wants it to be more affordable 😂 $45k would have me convinced without question. Im curious to see if they'll drop a Type-S with a detuned V6 or the outgoing Type R motor, or if they would further tune/evolve the current engine like the MDX/TLX Type-S seemed to do

@@MMM-wh9iz 100% I have owned 2 Honda's and now a 2021 RDX and the Acura is definitely a tier above any top trim Honda. The dudes who call Acura's overpriced Honda's simply haven't actually driven or been inside an Acura lol I would know because I use to be one of them! Finally drove an RDX last year because my wife liked the looks of it and it blew me away. We ended up buying it over a Volvo XC60, Lexus NX350 and Mazda CX-5 which were our other finalists.
Another fun fact…..the lock button is next to the open lift gate button so you don’t have to go to a door handle to lock the car back. Also, it has a feature where it auto locks once the doors close and you and the key are at least 5ft away from the vehicle. You’ll hear the first beep when the doors close and the second beep after you walk away.
You guys made a mistake with this review when it comes to the Trunk "kick Open" feature (2:00 mins into the video). The reason why there's no "lock" button is because as long as the trunk's door closes (and the rest of the doors are closed as well while the key is with you), the car senses it and beeps once to let you know on the matter. And when you walk away 5 feet from the car, all doors locks automatically and they car will Beep again to let you know.
Finally a RDX review. Thanks, I plan on picking one up this summer. As a married couple looking at this car, I am happy that it doesn't have built in baby shades, those are terrible visually and functionally, unless you have baby's. I agree that the infotainment system will take some learning, but I plug my phone and listen to Spotify and use Google maps. I wish trunk space and SH-AWD were talked about more, because those are also top in its class.
You're mistaken about locking system because there is a button on the hatch to conveniently lock all the doors when you close the hatch at least in U.S. RDX's. It's a simple button right next to the open button, you needed to bend over to see it at the hatch open button. Or justook in the owners manual.
I have the 2019 RDX, and there is a little lock button next to the trunk opening lever. Once trunk closed this little button on the right of the center locks all doors and trunk, just as you guys were looking for.
@@TheStraightPipes it’s a small rubberized button on the right side of the main pull lever: if u press it, car makes the lock sound and you can just walk away since the button locks the entire car. When I bought my car, there was a sticker w an arrow pointing to this button that said “lock”, since it’s hard to find otherwise. Now I press it by feel and of course took the sticker off. I hope that helps. Btw, I really enjoy your videos and the banter between you two, keep it up!!
You do have to wait for the hatch to close to reach that lock button. If you’re speaking about just closing the hatch and leaving right away, while hatch is still closing, the proximity walk away feature should then help w that scenario.
Walk away auto lock solves the need for a tailgate lock button or even lock buttons on the doors. Only catch is if others are slow to exit as you walk away it won't work. Great review.
The auto lock is quite annoying for a family with a baby as the car doesn't seem to have a proximity sensor that stops it from locking at awkward times. My wife used to get locked out all the time and I even found myself having to unlock the doors all the time in winter when needing to pick extra things from inside. Also if you walk away too quickly before all doors are closed it won't lock as you are too far away with the key and will simply beep at you 3 times. I had to disable it after getting fed up with its quirks
@@THEBIGLYO Yeah it is a cool feature but inconvenient at times. I get most annoyed the times I run out to the garage to grab something from the car but then have to go back inside to get the key fob because it had locked itself automatically earlier. I might turn the feature off soon.
You don't really need a lock button on the trunk. The car locks itself automatically. You hear the first beep when you close the trunk door (assuming others are closed already) and it auto locks on the second beep.
The lock button for the tailgate (a narrow button) is located to the right of the open button (wider button). In my view that's more useful as you don't need to walk back to the rear doors to lock if you are standing behind the tailgate and it was not opened.
The sensor under the trunk is also used to close the trunk, although it's not always working. All and all it's a great car and Acura should give it a type S with similar hp as civic type R
Great car, helped my Mother in law buy one. 2020 I believe since it was winter before covid. Great car. Though the touch pad is a bit annoying but workable.
The RX and RXL are both in the next price bracket above the RDX. They do not directly compete, the RX has a larger size. Idk why they said that, they also said the Buick Enclave which is 3 or 4 FEET longer and wider than the RDX is competition. The RDX doesn’t have a 3rd row but the Enclave does. Idk, maybe they mis spoke🤷🏽♂️
@@accordwhip3467 this isn't about # of seats comparison. It's about the size cause the NX is considered a compact size just like the RDX. Most people also cross shop the MDX with the RX as well.
Love this SUV particularly and love Honda&Acura cars generally. Trying my best to gain and save money for buying a car branded by Honda once in my life 🥰
I just traded in my 2019 RDX for the new 2023 RX and I kinda regretted…felt RX wasn’t as responsive and turning wasn’t as smooth. RDX is smaller than RX but is much more sportier.
I own an Apex blue Pearl with Orchid interior. My only real complaint is I'm only getting 14l/100km even when i drive in Comfort mode most of the time without a heavy foot.
I've owned a 2020 RDX for almost 3 years now. The reliability has been worse than any car I have owned in the past 20 years. My RDX has been in the shop every 6 months since new. My first warranty work was 2 days after purchase. Squeaky brakes Loud popping sunroof Speakers crackle and tick Front suspension rattle Rear hatch binding in cold weather Blend door motor squeaking Limp mode while passing on a 2 lane hwy Furthermore Acura's traction control is so evasive that you cannot have any fun even after turning it off. You'll never do donuts in a snowy parking lot despite all the fancy torque vectoring. Finally it uses fuel like it makes more power than it does. The RDX will be getting traded in the next year. You don't want this car out of warranty.
This morning Dec 12, 2022 the rear hatch glass shattered when closing the driver's door in the morning. Known problem of detective glass. Just run from Acura, run and never look back.
Nice review. Couldn’t help but notice some more enthusiasm from both of you on this vehicle in comparison to your 2019 review. Did you grow a liking to it over the last 3 years or is it because this review is more in the context of a daily driver vehicle?
I liked it a lot in 2019 and I think I kept liking it more in comparable suv reviews after that. I think I even said I'd recommend it over an X3 at one point lol - Jakub
I like how both the Lexus and Audi pictures of the RX350 and Q5 were taken in Cape Town where I live and that the Lexus picture has 2 buildings photoshopped in
I agree the GV70 is a better value but it lacks the dealer experience which is largely nonexistent. I’ve joined a couple GV70 and RDX groups and blogs, and the #1 complaint on the GV70 pages is the “Hyundai” experience at a majority of the dealerships - not honoring the free 3 year maintenance, not getting the concierge service or getting sonatas and lesser Hyundais as loaners while their Genesis is in service, etc. I test drove both cars, loved the GV70, almost ordered one but decided to order the RDX instead after experiencing some of that “Hyundai” level service during my car shopping.
Personally I would give up the dealer experience to get a better quality luxury car. It’s more about the car than the brand. You could buy a gv70 from a dirty Hyundai dealer and still come out ahead as a luxury car
Was at a Hyundai / Genesis dealer yesterday (after 10 years of 2012 genesis Hyundai ownership). Show room had dodge 392 scat pack, Mercedes’ 2 dr amg, dodge demon, 2 new corvettes, a Porsche, dodge truck…, no Hyundai or Genesis products inside??? 5 to 8 month wait if you order a gv70
Great feedback and good to know. My first car was a Toyota Camry coupe. I loved the car but the service experience was brutal. My next car was a Lexus es 300 and the dealership service experience was night and day. This is one of the reasons why I never went back to a non luxury brand.
If I was to replace my current RDX, I’d get this one in the blue. It’s such a fun, and useful car to have. I think the Lexus is great but living in the Midwest, I couldn’t imagine cleaning the grill. All the bugs to get out of the grill would suck.
This competes more with the Lexus NX (RAV-4 underpinnings) over the RX. Also not really the Buick Enclave as that’s an entirely different size, competing more with MDX and QX60. Maybe the Buick Envision.
The trunk lock button isn’t a big deal cause when you walk more than 5 feet away, the vehicle will lock automatically and give you a beep to let you know.
not sure if it was a missed feature, my 2019 rdx aspec has auto locking doors. Walk away from the car with the fob in your pocket and it automatically locks. Love it
I think a lot of people miss that feature because it isn't turned on when you buy the vehicle new off the lot. You have to navigate through the settings a bit to find it and turn it on. Really cool feature except for the times I need to run out to the garage to grab something from the car but then have to go back inside to get the key because its locked lol
Acura has proximity keys. When you walk away the doors look automatically, even the trunk. I hate reviewers who complain about things that don't even know that the vehicle they are in has.
But I don’t want that setting on. I want to be able to manually lock it with a button, what if I walk away with the key but my wife is still getting something out of the car
The point is cost cutting. If this is top trim, it should have all the goodies that other models have. As a 2020 RDX owner, the tailgate sometimes is too slow to close and the walk away function doesn’t work because you’re already far away from the vehicle.
The car has a setting to enable / disable walk away auto lock. I have it enabled. If my wife is in the car still, I leave the keys with her. It's not a big deal. There are some instances where I walk away and she's lagging behind and says hey unlock.. then I use key fob to unlock.
@@TheStraightPipes then screw her lol.. nah all jokes aside if the car has a door open still it won't activate. To me you guys should tell people it has that feature instead of just leaving it out.
Drove my bro's 2021 rdx aspec and its proper good BUT I'd rather have naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine powering it. I don't like how most manufacturers making 4 cylinder turbo's because it still sounds like a 4 cylinder.
Hey guys, there is a lock button on the trunk contrary to what the video mentions. It’s a smaller button to the immediate right of the trunk/hatch release. Fantastic review though!
There IS!! a lock button for the trunk, its to the right of the button where the button is to open it the hatch, its a little button, to the left is where you open the hatch from the outside, its where a normal handle would be for a lift gate, so that is actually there!

I would go with Subaru
@@lowlifeangler Also a good option. Find the interiors to look and feel cheap though on the Subaru.
The button is right beside the trunk release, it took me two months to figure that out haha
Also, wouldn't this be more comparable to the 2022 Lexus NX just because you get three-row on the RX?
I bought this car last week thanks to you guys. Awesome review!

Except more hp

@@saadqureshi7127 If you want more hp the BMWx3 m40i is a beast!...but it also cost 25k more and terrible reliability.
I have the new Acura A-Spec SH-AWD TLX, and it drives great.
I freaking love these daily drive videos on a Saturday morning with my coffee.

Fact: the RDX is the best seller in its segment (class) for years.
The pmc edition rdx is available in Canada. Limited numbers. Also walk away auto lock solves your hatch lock concern. To the right of the outer tailgate handle there's a small button to lock and alarm the vehicle.
We have 15 pmc cars for all of Canada 🤣
Yep, 15 allocated for Canada.

I recommend to disable full unlock for safety reasons.
Have owned this for 6 months and love, love, love it!!!
GV70, obviously.

It's not a big deal.
Actually Lexus NX is RDX's competitor.
Great video! The red interior is sooo clean, I would love to have this in the blue or white exterior one day. Not digging red on red
All Honda / Acura products with smart entry have walk away auto lock. So, for most people that'll be enabled and there would be no reason to push the lock button on the trunk. But otherwise, great review as always!

Neither of the two can compete with the Acura. Thr Acura is just far superior in just about every way possible
Yes. RX is MDX competitor.

The one real huge problem with that car is it drinks gas on the highway. The car has a much bigger fuel tank than my ilx but it uses half a tank to go the same distance.
The 4-cylinder drinks gas?! What’s the point of them downsizing the engine then?
@@JokerG16 its cheaper to make and when they do the EPA testing, the car is on a dyno with the turbo at mechanical minimum because theres no wind resistance. No boost=best fuel economy. In reality the turbo is making constant boost on highway driving.

With the key in your pocket the trunk/rear hatch locks automatically when you walk away. No need for the lock button on the power lift gate. 👌
Check tsp.truecar.com when it's time to buy 👍
You're mistaken about locking system because there is a button on the hatch to conveniently lock all the doors when you close the hatch at least in U.S. RDX's. It's a simple button right next to the open button, you needed to bend over to see it at the hatch open button. Or justook in the owners manual.
I have the 2019 RDX, and there is a little lock button next to the trunk opening lever. Once trunk closed this little button on the right of the center locks all doors and trunk, just as you guys were looking for.
But u can’t click the lock and leave
The lock button for the trunk is beside back up camera. FYI, there are 2 buttons there, open and lock
Walk away auto lock solves the need for a tailgate lock button or even lock buttons on the doors. Only catch is if others are slow to exit as you walk away it won't work. Great review.
Lock button is on the outside of the hatch. Next to the open button. You just have to wait for the hatch to close. 😏
@@THEBIGLYO came here to say the same thing. Totally agree.
@@THEBIGLYO Yeah it is a cool feature but inconvenient at times. I get most annoyed the times I run out to the garage to grab something from the car but then have to go back inside to get the key fob because it had locked itself automatically earlier. I might turn the feature off soon.
The NX and Envision are its competitors, not the RX and Enclave.
You don't really need a lock button on the trunk. The car locks itself automatically. You hear the first beep when you close the trunk door (assuming others are closed already) and it auto locks on the second beep.
Great review as usual. FYI the lock button at the tailgate is next to the opening lever. Very easy to use
Also on the CR-V
The lock button for the tailgate (a narrow button) is located to the right of the open button (wider button).
In my view that's more useful as you don't need to walk back to the rear doors to lock if you are standing behind the tailgate and it was not opened.

Wouldn’t the NX be a closer competitor to this? The MDX seems closer to the RX
imo I think the MDX would compete more with the RXL rather than just the standard RX, which the RDX would compete with (I think)
The RX and RXL are both in the next price bracket above the RDX. They do not directly compete, the RX has a larger size.
What about prices?
