- 2022 Acura RDX A Spec Advance (Platinum Elite) review by The Straight Pipes. The 2022 Acura RDX is putting down 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0L Turbo 4 Cylinder. At $53,645 USD would you take it over the Genesis GV80, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Lexus RX350, INFINITI QX50, Volvo XC60, Buick Enclave?

Hi
Buick Envision
PLS DO THE REVIEW OF THE NEW FORD EXPEDITION TIMBERLINE AND THE BMW 530I IN BASE SPEC ASKING FROM U GUYS FRO OVER 2MONTHS NOW PLSSSS WAITING FROM U GUYS DO IT IN YOUR STYLE
These two might be the most relatable “car guys” on UA-cam. The seem like they’re just happy to be here and not as arrogant as the more established guys.
If you set your Acura to lock after you are 8 ft away, then you do not need the tailgate lock button. It locks automatically.
Lock button is on the outside of the hatch. Next to the open button. You just have to wait for the hatch to close. 😏
There is also a lock button on the exterior of the trunk lid!
I think that’s just it if it had a dedicated lock button like what Yuri is asking for then you don’t have to wait by it before walking away.
Took one of these on a backroad on a wet road and the amount of grip and confidence this thing gives you is insane. Where I was expecting to lose grip I just had more and more of it and the awd system literally rotates the car around a corner. Beautifully executed.
Ok buddy

Great video. Quick comment about lock button on trunk - car can be programmed to lock when you leave it's proximity with the key in pocket. So no button needed it'll just lock which is even more convenient.
There is still a button on the trunk, it is just smaller so more difficult to find.
RDX has auto walk away lock it will lock automatically. You have to turn it on in the settings.
One of my favorite features I never knew I wanted.
Hi, I just bought 22 rdx and I cannot figure out how to get it to auto lock. Can you explain! Is the settings on the steering wheel or on the screen?
Good job boys! The RDX just works so well especially in Canada where we have to deal, with crappy roads. Having a front to back AWD system makes the RDX feel very secure in all conditions. I’ve driven the 2022 RDX with adaptive suspension and the difference between comfort and sport are noticeable. Agreed on the 2021 and older RDX the difference was hard to feel. Definitely a great all rounder and if I was looking for a smaller SUV this would be in my driveway.
I would go with Subaru
@@lowlifeangler Also a good option. Find the interiors to look and feel cheap though on the Subaru.
@@mv3380 Seems to me you don't anything about plastics, I been dealing with Honda, Toyota and Subaru in plastics almost 30 years.
No big deal just saying.
I bought my 2020 Acura RDX right after your first review of this SUV! I opted for the Elite trim (I think it's Technology in America) because I didn't want the red dash cluster. One thing I hate about the SUV is that it doesn't have a digital speedometer in the middle, as you see in the video, it's nice to see they added that in the 2022 RDX.
There is actually a lock button for the car on the trunk. The button is right beside the trunk release, it took me two months to figure that out haha
Also, wouldn't this be more comparable to the 2022 Lexus NX just because you get three-row on the RX?
I looked at EVERY car in this mid range SUV class and RDX is hands down the best along with Mazda. I chose the RDX because the A Spec truly makes it feel like a car worth way more than what I got it for. Very happy owner of RDX!
Besides Mazda has no reliability, once warranty is up, MAzda turbo + engine are expensive to maintain. Acura has better reliability and excellent resale value
Acura, Infiniti and Lexus is a Japanese luxury name brand but mazda is not a luxury name brand so can not compare
I had a Mazda CX7 2008 GT turbo, fun car to drive but after the turbo went out, piston leaking oil, my engine was burning oil. Gave it up at 59k miles because the fix was too expensive and nobody really wanted to touch my car as the proprietary software for service could only be done at dealership and you know those guys are just ready to rip customers off!
I own a MdX 2011 with Sh-AWD and i love my SUV. Gas mileage sucks but the 3.7L engine has a lot of power and its a base model. I have 110k miles and no issies with my car.
@@danielmelendez9943 I drive a 2013 TL Sh-awd with that same 3.7l engine. Yup.. premium gas guzzler but everything else is tops!
Two Acura videos in close succession is building my hype for Integra reviews even though that’s months out
I build these daily and I am super impressed with these. Very very cool
Thank you for your work. This machine is a slept on gem.
Do a better job, QC is f0kyn horrible!
I bought this car last week thanks to you guys. Awesome review!
Great review. RDX is the only Acura SUV I would consider. I have an older 2014 RX350 which is a boat but is an amazing highway cruiser.
The tech set up would drive me nuts.
This is so ugly compared to the Lexus though. I couldn't live with that awful front end lol.
@@DEVILTAZ35 holy L
@@DEVILTAZ35 hahaha Lexus literally has the ugliest looking suvs. The grille on the RX and NX is just unforgivable and looks like predator. Acura has a very sleek and sporty design that has good body lines and not an oversized grille.
Bought a 2021 RDX A-spec last year and really like almost everything about it. We have some minor gripes/annoyances but nothing major. Overall I feel its a perfectly blended midsize SUV between luxury and sportiness. Its my wife's daily driver and has the right amount of luxury for her without breaking the bank, and for the times I'm driving it has just enough sportiness to have some fun with and reminisce about having a sports car again one day. If there is one thing I really wish it had it would be the digital speedometer. Hoping they add that to the 2021's through a software update since its now available on the 2022's. Its the exact same system so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.
This is exactly why I’m going to buy one this spring. I want my wife’s car to be sporty enough that I actually enjoy driving it since I daily drive a tacoma now instead of a fun sedan 😅
Yep. I drive a Ram 1500 and don't get me wrong I love my truck and will probably always daily drive a truck, but we use my wife's car for the most part when we go places together or as a family (unless its something where we need the truck's size or capabilities), so its nice that its fun to drive. She keeps it in comfort mode all the time but I switch it to sport/sport+ when I drive and its great! @@Caleb_Johnson
This is my exact ride! Agree with 95% with your feedback. The one thing I think we're getting sucked in to is the touchscreen. Every car I tested with touchscreens were distracting to change anything and it makes you constantly look down from the road. Hated how the luxury brands force $5+k packages in you when everything is covered in 3 total packages (base, a spec, plat elite a spec) Other car is a manual BMW 340XI so wasn't looking for a something overly aggressive. This is great for a family of 4 + dog
Agree on the touchscreen thing. I don't understand the gripes some people have about the true touch pad. We have a 2021 RDX that my wife daily drives, and I drive a Ram with the giant touchscreen. I prefer the touch pad setup in the Acura over my truck now. So much easier and less distracting.
That's the only 4 cylinder I know that sounds like a 6 cylinder. Good job Acura 👏
RIGHT?! BUT, Acura is honda, all they did to this, is take it out the accord, and hook the computer up LOL!

I also really love this SUV. I daily-drove one myself a few months ago. Part of me still wants it to be more affordable 😂 $45k would have me convinced without question. Im curious to see if they'll drop a Type-S with a detuned V6 or the outgoing Type R motor, or if they would further tune/evolve the current engine like the MDX/TLX Type-S seemed to do
They’ll probably just have a Civic Type R engine in it

Fact: the RDX is the best seller in its segment (class) for years.
The RDX offers walk away locking, so theoretically, the car locks once the hatch closes and you walk away. Usually even does a one signal beep when the hatch and all doors are closed, beeps again once you walk away to notify that the doors are locked
I recommend to disable full unlock for safety reasons.
Actually Lexus NX is RDX's competitor.
Correction: The RDX does have a lock button on the Tailgate, it is by the rearview camera.
Traded my "Heavy booty" 2022 Lincoln Aviator Reserve/Jet package yesterday on the 2022 RDX A Spec package. No regrets, it's quick and not so big like the Aviator, it's perfect for what I need this car for!!!!
Walk away auto lock solves the need for a tailgate lock button or even lock buttons on the doors. Only catch is if others are slow to exit as you walk away it won't work. Great review.
Lock button is on the outside of the hatch. Next to the open button. You just have to wait for the hatch to close. 😏
The auto lock is quite annoying for a family with a baby as the car doesn't seem to have a proximity sensor that stops it from locking at awkward times. My wife used to get locked out all the time and I even found myself having to unlock the doors all the time in winter when needing to pick extra things from inside. Also if you walk away too quickly before all doors are closed it won't lock as you are too far away with the key and will simply beep at you 3 times. I had to disable it after getting fed up with its quirks
@@THEBIGLYO came here to say the same thing. Totally agree.
@@THEBIGLYO Yeah it is a cool feature but inconvenient at times. I get most annoyed the times I run out to the garage to grab something from the car but then have to go back inside to get the key fob because it had locked itself automatically earlier. I might turn the feature off soon.
This competes more with the Lexus NX (RAV-4 underpinnings) over the RX. Also not really the Buick Enclave as that’s an entirely different size, competing more with MDX and QX60. Maybe the Buick Envision.
I like how both the Lexus and Audi pictures of the RX350 and Q5 were taken in Cape Town where I live and that the Lexus picture has 2 buildings photoshopped in
Great car, helped my Mother in law buy one. 2020 I believe since it was winter before covid. Great car. Though the touch pad is a bit annoying but workable.
You don't really need a lock button on the trunk. The car locks itself automatically. You hear the first beep when you close the trunk door (assuming others are closed already) and it auto locks on the second beep.
I agree the GV70 is a better value but it lacks the dealer experience which is largely nonexistent. I’ve joined a couple GV70 and RDX groups and blogs, and the #1 complaint on the GV70 pages is the “Hyundai” experience at a majority of the dealerships - not honoring the free 3 year maintenance, not getting the concierge service or getting sonatas and lesser Hyundais as loaners while their Genesis is in service, etc.
I test drove both cars, loved the GV70, almost ordered one but decided to order the RDX instead after experiencing some of that “Hyundai” level service during my car shopping.
Personally I would give up the dealer experience to get a better quality luxury car. It’s more about the car than the brand. You could buy a gv70 from a dirty Hyundai dealer and still come out ahead as a luxury car
What about prices?
Was at a Hyundai / Genesis dealer yesterday (after 10 years of 2012 genesis Hyundai ownership). Show room had dodge 392 scat pack, Mercedes’ 2 dr amg, dodge demon, 2 new corvettes, a Porsche, dodge truck…, no Hyundai or Genesis products inside??? 5 to 8 month wait if you order a gv70
Great feedback and good to know. My first car was a Toyota Camry coupe. I loved the car but the service experience was brutal. My next car was a Lexus es 300 and the dealership service experience was night and day. This is one of the reasons why I never went back to a non luxury brand.
Wouldn’t the NX be a closer competitor to this? The MDX seems closer to the RX
imo I think the MDX would compete more with the RXL rather than just the standard RX, which the RDX would compete with (I think)
The RX and RXL are both in the next price bracket above the RDX. They do not directly compete, the RX has a larger size. Idk why they said that, they also said the Buick Enclave which is 3 or 4 FEET longer and wider than the RDX is competition. The RDX doesn’t have a 3rd row but the Enclave does. Idk, maybe they mis spoke🤷🏽♂️
@@accordwhip3467 this isn't about # of seats comparison. It's about the size cause the NX is considered a compact size just like the RDX. Most people also cross shop the MDX with the RX as well.
@@volcalstone Agree, it seems they were matching the compact RDX to Midsize SUV’s for some reason.
@@volcalstone gotcha gotcha, thanks for the info
You guys made a mistake with this review when it comes to the Trunk "kick Open" feature (2:00 mins into the video). The reason why there's no "lock" button is because as long as the trunk's door closes (and the rest of the doors are closed as well while the key is with you), the car senses it and beeps once to let you know on the matter. And when you walk away 5 feet from the car, all doors locks automatically and they car will Beep again to let you know.
i hope you guys get to review the nsx type s

@@TheStraightPipes what about the Outback Wilderness?.
Wait a minute! You missed the Lexus NX which is main luxury competitor to RDX. RX350 competes with MDX.
Okay, guys, here is my question . . . are we looking forward to a RDX vs. GV70 comparison? That is what I need!
100% these are my top two choices for my next car
Those two are at the top of my list and I am so conflicted about which to get!
@@kkflkkfl SAME!
@@kkflkkfl I’d go for the Acura just because of the reliability and resale value
Acura has proximity keys. When you walk away the doors look automatically, even the trunk. I hate reviewers who complain about things that don't even know that the vehicle they are in has.
But I don’t want that setting on. I want to be able to manually lock it with a button, what if I walk away with the key but my wife is still getting something out of the car
The point is cost cutting. If this is top trim, it should have all the goodies that other models have. As a 2020 RDX owner, the tailgate sometimes is too slow to close and the walk away function doesn’t work because you’re already far away from the vehicle.
The car has a setting to enable / disable walk away auto lock. I have it enabled. If my wife is in the car still, I leave the keys with her. It's not a big deal. There are some instances where I walk away and she's lagging behind and says hey unlock.. then I use key fob to unlock.
@@TheStraightPipes then screw her lol.. nah all jokes aside if the car has a door open still it won't activate. To me you guys should tell people it has that feature instead of just leaving it out.
Hands down better than all competitors , better performance and reliability too
I’ve always loved the RDX. I had it for a weekend while my Type S was being worked on and it was nice. If the Type S never came out I definitely would have went with the RDX. I just wish the RDX had more power. Ride is great, handles great, lots of space. I know they can’t fit the Type S’s engine in that thing, but oh my lord.. If they could..
I have the V6 VTEC 2017.......way way way better power wise
@@mrdudelove1 I leased a 2017 model then a 2020 model. Current 2.0T has similar power and torque as previous V6, and it is quicker due to new transmission.
@@ldxk lol....no its not...i do 0-60 in 6sec
@@mrdudelove1 new one takes less than 6 sec, consistent with my experience driving them both on daily basis
Stop humble bragging about your type S. it's a trim level not a car model so we don't even know which one you're driving, which makes your comparison worthless.
This model refresh shows that Acura listens to feedback. The only thing they could have done was not put the “average” Goodyear tires on a $50k+ car. Should have equipped them with Continental Pure Contact Ls or Michelin Cross climates 2.
There is a distinct difference between the suspension in comfortable, normal and sport. You didn’t feel it because you are driving on smooth roads. However go around a corner in comfort and then do it again in sport; you’ll feel less body roll and more road feel.
Change the infotainment and it's my favorite car.
The only reason I don't buy the RDX and went for the X3 is because journalists and consumers alike have been screaming to go to a touchscreen which is an easy fix for years now and Acura just keeps ignoring them. For that reason alone and the fact that that ten speed auto isn't really improving mpg at all consider the X3 m40i with much more power gets same mileage over a 2.0L turbo is sad!
Great video TSP. You should do a similar one for GV70!
Interior space and cargo, along with bang for buck Crush all those competitors. I have a 21 advance shawd. I love it. The auto pilot CC steering is garbage, but otherwise it's a dream. Mpg mostly city is about 16.5 for be, 23 for 50/50 .. small gas tank is another negative but oh well. It's biggest competitor imo is the Hyundai Santa Fe calligraphy now
Very anatomical episode of the Straight Pipes.

Most of this on the Acura is optional like fold in mirrors, To get most of these options you must buy all the options. These guys show this but the Acura A Spec does not come with most of these options. The Acura is a good handling SUV.😮8
I thought the Porsche Macan would also be a competitor, no?
There is no substitute for Porsche.
The engine sounds Aweosme from the inside , and actually not bad from the exhaust for a 4 cyl - that 2.0 turbo is the same that was in the accord which was shocking everyone for its acceleration! Love it- and of course the x340i is faster lol that’s a turbo straight 6 man
Also the ELS is up there with the best like Volvos

Hi guys I like the video but I need to make a correction to something you said about not being able to lock the car from the back. On the rear hatch the button you push to open the door there are 2 buttons. The larger one on the left is to open the door when it's closed and the smaller button on the right is to lock the car.
My Daily driver, same color too :) I love it, very comfy.
The Enclave wouldn't be competing with the RDX. The Enclave is Buick's midsize three row, based on the Traverse. The Envision would be competing with the RDX. The Envision is their compact SUV, based on the Equinox😉
It’s Buick competition is actually the Envision, not the Enclave. Not that I blame you, I work at a GM dealer and can confirm nobody knows these exist.
There is indeed a lock button on the trunk. It’s right next to open trunk button on the out side of the car.
You guys are awesome! Thanks!
They sound surprisingly good with an exhaust as it’s the same engine as the type r just the accords config with the 9 speed
Just the steering has more buttons than my Volvo, interior looks like a car in the 80s with more than a million buttons
Great Review. I think I made up my mind on the RDX aspec.
F---ing *FINALLY* Acura figures it out.
I don't want to miss out on a nice appearance to get more tech.
If I'm buying a *luxury* car I want the best of both.
They missed me in 2014 with the TLX (no A-spec Advance, got an S4 that... *gasp* had both tech and wasn't decked out in chrome like a grandpa-mobile).
and in 2018 when I bought... another S4 as opposed to the RDX.
And in 2021 when I got an A4.
The only other company that continues to miss the plot on this is Volvo.

The truck lock button is on the right side of where you open the truck. Well, at least that's where it was on the 2019-2021 rdx lol.
I wish the MDX 3rd row was optional. If not RDX looks best for most families
why didnt you mention the Stelvio as competition??

It would be more fair to do the comparisons below:
Acura RDX vs NX 300 F Sport or NX 350 F Sport
Acura MDX vs Lexus RX 350

I'm a 2019 RDX Tech owner. The vehicle handles & performs very well. It's the best performing, & most luxurious vehicle I've ever owned. However, it is also one of the most irritating vehicles I have ever owned. And the source of that irritation is all the electronic "luxury" & "driver assist" features.
My biggest beef is the vehicles inability, or refusal, to remember my preferred configuration for driving. The preflight checklist of items I must set, every time I start up, is ridiculous, & makes me grit my teeth every time. The only driving mode I can tolerate is Sport Manual Shift mode, every other mode either leaves the engine lugging at low rpm, or revving at an unnecessarily high rpm. The fly by wire throttle is not consistent or predictable at times, with laughably bad lag, or surge, in some situations. I would be in heaven if I could forego the 10 speed automatic, for a clutch pedal, & the 6 speed manual in the Civic Type R.
This vehicle could be made much more appealing & less irritating to me, If I was given some control of the electronic features through the infotainment system, so I could tune them to my preferences, & have the vehicle remember them. I could go on & on about how poor, & in some cases dangerous, some of the "driver assist" features are, but I'll leave it at that for now, & just finish by saying that I have a love hate relationship with this vehicle that is disappointing, but for the most part resolvable, if Acura would allow it.
