Some of their entries are rough in timing because there's no one conducting them, but other than that, it's just conditioning on your part : you're not conditioned to think that people singing like this, with this pronounciation, with this style, are good singers. They absolutely are good singers.

I've just stumbled upon this.. so I am aware I'm replying to a 2yrs old comment but just wanted to say that as someone who used to be in a choir, it appeared more like sections were chosen to sing at different times (to get a certain sound) and so the ones just stood there were most likely told only to sing at the chorus, for example 😊
