We're from Ohio and had the privilege of hearing Jase speak at the Operation 6:12 event - one of the few non-Amish attendees :). We were surprised because we just watched a podcast where Jase indicated he did not like public speaking and was never sure how well he did. He did wonderfully! We have the 3 questions you mentioned written on post-its throughout our house (and in our Bibles) and I even mentioned it during a meeting today. Thank you for coming to Ohio! for supporting a very worthy cause in Operation 6:12 and for continuing to help us along our faith journey.

It’s good to hear Jase realize that being like the Amish isn’t going to fix the sin problem. Most people think the Amish have a perfect lifestyle.
I gotta agree though if everyone did community like the Amish and have a work ethic like the Amish we would all be much better off.

Well said. They are living THEIR best life. We try to live ours. Most times both religious lifestyles as well as hedonistic/worldly lifestyles are appealing. One must decide for themselves after temptation to decide what kind of animal/human they want to be. God bless you all. Choose wisely. I am surrounded by Amish and mennonites here in Wisconsin. They do enjoy conversation and I enjoy learning about their culture. I am always amazed at how well their community pulls together. Which is exactly how the church is suppose to work. When someone is sick they all commit to putting money toward paying that persons medical bills. If a barn or house burns down, in less than 48 hours a new barn or house is put back up. Fascinating culture. They do prefer chiropractors or massage over a doctor clinic though.
And its absolutely hilarious to watch them on ski's being pulled in the culverts mid winter by the horse and buggy.

As a Mennonite I would like to encourage anybody that talks to the Amish or Mennonite people about Jesus to emphasize that it is Jesus ALONE and not works that saves you! Because when you add works (Baptism, dress codes, extra biblical rules) you will be damned. (The apostle Paul was very clear in the New Testament about this).
This point needs to be made crystal clear that it is Jesus alone that saves…… nothing else!!!!

Yes, the Amish are God fearing people. I personally always knew that most of them Love Jesus. In fact, Ben & Amanda, you might find this amazing about the Amish.......approx 5 to 10 years ago in The Pennsylvania Amish community, there was a schoolhouse where ""quite a few "" children were shot & killed by a lone gunman, and shortly thereafter, the parents of those children went and FORGAVE the gunman. I found that to be More than Amazing. That's how strong their Faith is. God Bless Both of You !!

We were visiting family in Berlin/Millersburg, Oh last week and saw the signs for this event while it was going on. Had we known in advance, I would have loved to attend. My wife's family is Amish; she never joined the church, but we spend a few weeks a year with her family. Her parents are old order Amish, but have recently purchased a cell phone. Their Bishop now says its ok (supposed to be a basic phone with no internet...). I'm glad to hear your focus on grace. While there are those who believe salvation is by grace through faith, many of the Amish believe that works (and rules) are a requirement in line with salvation.

I live in an area that has all kinds of Mennonites additionaly I know Mennonites from all over the world and areas where there are heavy concentrated you see more of the kind of behavior. For some it is just a church they attend. These are General Conference Mennonites. For others like Amish, Old Mennonites and Holderman it is muchmore like what you describe. Central Kansas has all of those. You are not the only person to know Mennonites. You did not distinguish between various sects. Evangelical Christianity could also be considered a cult depending how it is practiced. So while I absolutely understand your point it lacks nuance.

In my time there I learned so much about the Amish and the Mennonite (hope I spelled it right). I was able to learn much more about the Amish because a Sgt. I worked with use to be Amish.
