Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion. On top of that, she's only 18 here!!!

You are asking a very common question about Diana's vocal range because as you know, the vocal range helps in defining a female singer's voice type. At age 13 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, and As of September 2021, at age 18, (she is now 19), during this performance her lower functional range was again measured and now her range is from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone and timbre in her lower range. It's the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance. This further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", and a "dramatic contralto", the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice type and the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
What most people want to know is, how does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana’s ability to her winning the genetic lottery. She was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be larger than other female singers. This unique vocal anatomy gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce those low, deep, rich, full notes, but without actually scoping Diana’s vocal track there is no way to be 100% sure.
Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which is exceedingly rare for someone so young to have accomplished. A singer who has mastered this polyphonic vocal technique can create one, and sometimes two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. This polyphonic ability is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of electronic voice manipulation or pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. Neither is anyone else singing off stage nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. The other vocals you are hearing is a vocal backing track used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score, which is also on a backing track. I believe that diana mentioned in an interview that Dimash messaged her on instagram to acknowledge her, though she seemed unsure about the idea of a collab because dimash has a veryyy different singing style compared to hers. However, i recall her saying “if one of us wants it to happen, then it will happen”…so really, you never know. Igor is a smart man, he could certainly come up with a good performance that suits both of them, but it’s ultimately up to whether they even want to pursue that idea.

Diana's story is quite sad, but give her credit for overcoming her beginnings. There is a plethora of songs she has done. In this same competition, check out her performance of The Crow!! Also, an earlier work is "Rechenka" which was done when she was 14. She sings a classic Russian folk song and making sounds of owls and forest creatures while she's singing.
Peter Barber is an operatic bass singer and he came to the same realization you did re: her tongue position. He thought maybe, just maybe, she was doing some tongue manipulations to get that extremely dark tone. He went back to watch and was stunned. "Her tongue is perfectly flat!" To say he was flabbergasted was an understatement. 😃

Her vibrato is like null or very sutil, she doesn't even need that, her voice is so pure, beautifull and clean as it is
I only respect you for the term nonstop listening. This tag should be made mandatory for reactionaries. Because there are people who are only interested in technique and they make stops in the most inappropriate places. And there are people who are interested in the full picture of the work. I insist that each stop completely destroys the author's intent of the director and performer. Reactions to Diana is interesting to watch because there is a lot going on on stage. Diana has given a few interviews and she explained that her lows are very easy but her high notes 🎶 were difficult during puberty to work on. Her vocal coach during her early teen years passed to during the Covid pandemic 😷 as well as her adopted father. She spoke about him during this competition to the other Singers/Judges. Her vocal range has expanded now that she’s 20’ years old. Please react to her original song “The Day You…”. She is now a five octave vocalist. She recently performed live on the Masked Singer an Aria Opera “Fly on the Wings of Wind”. The judges were shocked because she goes to her lower contralto tone. I would also recommend that you watch her “Sweet Dreams” cover …she dressed as Ermine a Japanese Kitsume’ Fox. Clips of these two performances are available by a dedicated fan KWSTAS as the episodes are blocked in her country. I’ve been a fan for about 5 years now and she’s absolutely the Best Vocalist for me.

She's also an expert at yodel technique. Was an expert yodeler at like 12 years old. Yodels were very dominant in her technique and stylistic choices when she was younger. I think it was because she became insecure in head voice with all that weight. She utilized chest dominant mixes and falsetto. She really had to work to get comfortable in head voice again.
I think if you check out her performance of Rechenka at 14 (when her voice first started changing) you'll get quite a bit of insight. Also, it's a much more technically challenging piece. My other suggestions would be the small lounge venue performances at the Wood Grouse Nest she's done. Specifically As Your Voice and Personal Jesus. Whoever records the audio there does a really good job despite how small the venue is.

Diana started out as a folk singer. She has a unique talent, which successfully began to develop on the ethnic characteristics of national songs. listen to Pelageya or Lyudmila Zykina (she is no longer with us, but she is a classic of Russian folk songs), Altai throat singing, etc. and you will understand how Diana "rocked" her voice from a very young age.

Thanks for the reaction to Diana and the analysis. A slight correction, this performance wasn't on "You Are Super" but on a show called "ShowMaskGoOn", an offshoot of the Russian version of "The Masked Singer". Diana did appear on "You Are Super" in 2018, aged 14 and 2019 when she was 15. Here in Autumn 2021 she was 18 - born 31st May 2003. "ShowMaskGoOn" ran for 9 weeks with the same 9 singers (including Diana) singing in different genres each week.

создается впечатление чего то сверх естественного, Диана обладает уникальным
голосом, ставящим в тупик и вводящим в ступор профессионалов оперной и эстрадной
сцены со всего мира. К слову сказать, мужчина, который соскочил с места и простоял
все время песни всемирно известный оперный певец Юсиф Айвазов, который был поражен
не менее вашего. Поверьте, есть чему удивляться, у этой девочки в 18 лет глубокое контральто,
причем яркое сочетание колоратурного и драматического, у нее уникальный диапазон в нижнем регистре,
и довольно высокий для контральто в верхнем диапазоне, а это в принципе уникальное сочетание, кроме
того Господь одарил ее голос богатыми полифоническими обертонами, возможностью произносить
несколько звуков в разных диапазонах одновременно, и и вентрологией, которую в простонародии
называют чревовещаем. И всем этим набором Диана искусно управляет. К слову сказать, подобная
особенность была и у легенды Имы Сумак. Одно время бытовало мнение, что это помощь звукорежиссеров,
но когда слышали ее исполнения тех же композиций но акапелла, то скептис проходил, наступал шок.
Оно и понятно, на сегодняшний день диапазон у Дианы обширный, от "Ре" малой октавы внизу до "Си"
первой октавы на грудном регистре и "Ля" второй октавы в головном регистре вверху.
Нужно учесть, что Диана постоянно продолжает совершенствовать и расширять свой диапазон,
так что она продолжит нас удивлять своим искусством, наша Королева мурашек!!!

Diana, the unique singer and songwriter from Russia was born in May, 31. 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She is 1,65m/ 5,41ft tall.
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. She also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D7). Her voice has natural polyphonic overtones and sometimes specifically an undertone = sub harmonic. (You hear the voice an octave lower than Diana sings. Not everyone can hear that.)
Undertone singing is a singing technique that belongs to the main category of overtone singing in which the vibration mode of the vocal cords is modulated to produce sounds that are below the singing tone.
In contrast to overtone singing, these tones are not overtones (i.e. integral multiples of the fundamental, but integral divisors of the fundamental, so-called subharmonics.)

Diana didn't have a happy start in life.The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived. She did not love her child, cruelly abused him and tried to drown him.
The 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... from Irina Ponik, a massagetherapist. Taking a young child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, daughter Nastya 17 years. Now start all over again? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. The doctor recommended singing lessons and so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And it all started at the age of 5...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Her mother, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vblogger… admirable.
Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget.
Irina accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2012, Irina's family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who bore her would kidnap her.
In 2017 Diana went to Moscow, to 'The Voice Kids'. The next day, a huge scandal erupted on social media. A door had closed, but a new door opened...
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a competition 'You are Super and won twice. That project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to UA-cam and soon Diana had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists to start their studies and promote their creativity. Diana won a scholarship and Igor Krutoy (Russian music titan, billionaire, juror and sponsor) gave her a small apartment (37m²/ 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy. (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020). Now Diana is taught by the great Alexandra Pismennaya, who was a student of Prof. Donskoy.
The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 - E6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically so far. She plays the piano and ukulele. She composes and creates her own songs.
But Diana is not only a great singer and storyteller. She lives her songs and touches our hearts and souls. But also she looks beautiful and she is a humble, smart and hardworking young woman. She also gives charity concerts. She loves her family and her fans. We are Diana's 'friends' and support her. Diana really appreciates that her friends helped to improve her home studio and also sponsored her first album. The Russian friends have chosen Diana as their 'national treasure'. I think it is our 'earth treasure'.

2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier as “normal”, applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS).
In October 2021 Diana was invited to her first adult contest on Russian television 'The ShowMaskGoOn'. She won!!!
In December 2021, Dianas released her first CD with great success. Maestro Krutoy had introduced Diana to the excellent singer, songwriter and producer Brandon Stone. With Maria Tarasenko (songwriter), the trio created the 9 songs of the album and received gold in June 2022.
