Every time I see this scene it's a reminder of how even a moment spent with someone who gets you is worth more than an eternity without knowing them at all. Beautifully acted
@@justinlowe5678 This movie's actually pretty hedonistic if you think about it. First off, they have that fat bastard that's also supposed to be a fallen angel (makes no sense). Then you got Nicolas Cage's character, that's falling from heaven just to bang Meg Ryan. Instead of it being about physical sensationalism, I wish it was more about PRESENCE and alienation. For instance, here's a much better scene with this type of theme, from the movie Forrest Gump: (youtube search: The best scene of Forrest Gump) the scene where Jenny is dying while holding Forrest's hand. Also, couldn't this guy simply have waited for Meg Ryan to die before trying to get with her? In heaven, there could easily be like 4 or 5 million different versions of Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage. He wasn't even physically born into the same culture as her. He just.. showed up like he was shopping for groceries. The angel should've been physically birthed in ignorance of the fact that he was an angel, fallen in love with the target in ignorance of the fact that his compatibility with her is largely just theoretical (realistically, it's more appropriate for him to just get cucked by her anyways), and then some decades later, achieve transcendence under the premise that he's actually supposed to be like the reincarnation of Christ. This is also why love poetry is just the worst kind of poetry, as it's just pure sensationalism. Like, who needs to seek wisdom when you can just be happy instead? Fuck that shit.
Imagine if you could live forever but not experience happiness, love (and pain which comes with the package)... would you give up forever just to experience happiness and love ?
Yup And I give up forever to touch you, cause I know that you feel me somehow your the closest to heaven, that I'll ever be and I don't wanna go home tonight. Yup makes sense.
@@88feji nope. Coz pain and suffering always outweighs happiness in life. Happiness is always fleeting but pain is chronic. Cant believe the angel would give up not feeling pain for a lifetime of wage slavery.
just when he was starting to be human and love it was taken away from him and her by an accident, it speaks to the fragility of life and what we are as a species. its better to love and lost than to never have loved at all.
Whenever anyone tells me Nicholas Cage is a terrible actor, I think of this film. He gives a very heart felt performance. I still think it’s one of his roles to date.
This is not the final scene! The scene where he goes to the beach, where I Grieve plays and angels are watching, where he throws himself to the ocean to feel alive, its the best one and one of the most spiritual!
Dear kagnomi, While my young sister was driving the motor bike, she got hit by a truck and its wheels passed over her body. She didn't have NOT even one small scratch on her face... She died after a few hours... You are right, it IS strange, but...it seems that God always knows better than us... And, who knows, perhaps the movie directors also know something sometimes. She could have massive internal damage, and yet not feel a thing because of the shock, be virtually unharmed on the outside, but inside be irreparable. A good knock on the head and you'll be saying how fine you are until you suddenly get dizzy, go unconscious and then die within minutes.
I remember watching this when I was only 15? I cried non-stop. god, the angel became a human then the human suddenly will become an angel what a sad story
I was in the theatre watching this movie with my mom. At the first kiss scene mom leaned over and whispered in my ear "my guardian angel probably looks like Rodney Dangerfield" lmao
I can't help but cry watching the ending every time I see it, it's just heartbreaking. He gives up his immortality to be with her only to have it taken away from him. It is just truly sad when you think about it..
No it is not sad. The whole point of the movie is that a short duration spent in love is worth far more than a billion years of a love-less life. I thought it is heartening and uplifting.
Until you've loved and lost might not feel that way it hurts me more to know i lostthe 1 women i loved regardless how many good yeara we had@@aamirk345
When he was an angel he did not question pain or see it as unfair. It was a natural process and he was at peace with it always. Even in life or death situations he did not question why such a thing like this could happen. He has been in the middle of a lot of people’s pain/ fear/ anxiety and was not shaken by it. And to see him so helpless and broken all for the name of love is actually beautiful and gut wrenching..
I just watched this film again after watching it many times years ago. I cry at the ending everytime, I wish they had an alternate ending available even if it wasn't the final one just so we can pretend to ourselves they lived out the rest of their lives together.
I always loved movie at such a young age. At 7 I watched this I remembered it very clearly cause I saw my mama crying her out eyes in this scene. Several years later I rewatched it again and never watched it again. It hurts so bad.
man i cried a lot such a touching scene ... the acting was so good i even felt his pain ...man i have beeb on this planet for 23 years cant believe its my first time watching this movie
Because Hollywood is run by cowardly, arrogant cretins who are to frightened to make a story that takes a chance like this and so they go for what's safe and as a result what we get most of the time is essentially the same movie over and over and over again.
@Middle 8P like the multiple movies about fast and the furios or superheroes movies? no thanks, there are not more movies with a meaning or purpose, all are cops, bad guys and explotions.
Some people might think Nicholas Cage just always plays the funny ha ha crazy man, but then we have movies like this. Such a great film and great acting.

Ya know, in the book, which is FAR BETTER than this thing, Meg Ryan doesn't die. You, as the reader, are allowed a happy ending.
