I had, for some reason, alot of anxiety to start as I didn't really know where to begin with but with your videos I am finally able to build my very own zoo and actually look at it and be proud. So, thank you, alot.
For those who may not know this. The free power radius is dictated by your gates. If you move your gates further apart then the radius covered speads out a bit more. Particularly useful if you arent playing in a unlimited funds sandbox mode. Although its been a while since i did a franchise zoo so im not sure if you can still move the little gates in franchise (i know you still can in sandbox though). Personally, because i tend to hyperfixate and like a lot of detail, once my zoo starts getting about halfway up one side i add another entrance there and duplicate the gates, then have a parking lot that wraps around the edge enough not to make it look out of place. It then makes it easy to hide staff buildings by disguising them as a hotel, or something similar.
Those first tips are game changing! I would have never thought of deleting that awkward 6” wide path coming out the entrance. Then, adding all of your first buildings to the entrance so that everything is lining up. This has been bothering me for ages. My OCD wants to kiss you! 😂 Thank you!

These start-up videos are always welcome! Never hurts to review the basics. Showing the grid set up is a great help! As is using that free power source. :) Suggestions: Use the flatten terrain tool before pathing! Then, I would have left out the quarantine hut and veterinary surgery, and put in a staff room up front, leaving space for shops for a tiny bit later, after guests start asking for them. A water purifier is going to be needed right soon, too. Note that putting Exhibits out very early next to the shop spaces brings people right in AND all selling the babies is a continual source of income! Not to mention that the exhibits fit nicely next to shops.
I watched this video right before starting my first franchise zoo and it was so helpful! I really appreciate you taking the time to make this. Thank you!
Great basic starting layout. The only thing I do differently in my own franchises is I put in 4 exhibits first. They bring in SO much money to help pay for everything else.
I usually also start with 4 habitats and I dont put the staff buildings at the entrance but group the 4 habitats around the staff buildings right behind a plaza at the entrance. I found this much more efficient
I rarely earn any money with exhibits... I use fast breeding spiders and snakes and sell the offspring but its so much less money than my other zoo, which has a badger and deer enclosure,
@@voidling2632 i believe the best for money are golden Scorpions and the snails with the long ass names (at least in basegame don't know about the packs)
@@voidling2632 it really depends on the exhibit. Spiders and snakes won't net you much. Look for decently easy to breed and more rare. My power aint reaching the habbitats. Soo i had to tweak it in my own way to make my own layout. But this helped me alot of how to think. Btw im on console.
Thank you so much for this! My first zoo was a mess and this set me off to a great start. My education is only 4% even though I did what you did. Did I do something wrong?
It’s weird because since the game has came out I’ve kept up with EVERYTHING. I only just got the game this year. Even though I’m technically a newbie, I’ve been watching planet zoo content since the game came out
10:30 that is not a problem and not an bug in the game. Its you not knowing that the existing path belongs to the main gate as an separate Building, therfore the path dont want to connect since it does not belong to the Building. you delating the path disconects it from the original Building what you layed out with the grid. Sorry to be that direct but its simply not a game problem its as so often an user problem.
I love this video and can get the pathing down but when I go to work on the habitat I keep messing up. I'm going to try again but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I wish the habitat was on your workshop page so I could download it.
Thank you. This will help a lot. I love this game but I really struggle with building and construction (I even have trouble placing paths correctly. All my zoos look terrible! How do you move the plaster (for the viewing windows) up and down while in group mode. Can’t work it out.
Im a new player and it wont allow me to add the facilities to the group or grid do you have any suggestions on what could fix this problem. My buildings just passthrough each other as i try to place them and the button that says add to building doesnt show up.
he i recognize this is paulsley layout! :) or atleast thats where i got introduced to this layout. your profile pic reminds me of that paulsleys style icon too as well as becky,s :)
I've been trying to do this, copying it exactly, but it's not letting me duplicate the habitat. I added a rocky border along the top of the panels, but it says, 'Cannot duplicate more than one building at a time'. I'm not selecting any buildings? I've deleted the rocky border and I'm getting the same message. I can save it as a blueprint, but it's then nearly impossible to place accurately because I can't seem to place it on the grid. What have I done wrong?
So this game has been out for ages, and instead of dealing with the horrendous path creating system, they just keep expecting people to buy dlc after dlc. I get grass growing through paths, paths not connecting properly, getting black lines running across paths. Paths as you explained not connecting to buildings, requiring a delete and replace. Trenches running under if you click flatten terrain. I'm sure some of these issues are me not quite understanding how to do things, but come on, I've only played a few hours and I'm not sure I want to continue. So frustrating. I used to play Rollercoaster Tycoon 20 years ago and it wasn't this much of a joke.
Snapping to the starting building is causing major problems for me, buildings are sinking into the ground and the vet is in same place as yours but apparently isn't there. Anyone else have similar issues?
How did it let you rotate while building the walls? I've tried while in the group, and it won't let me rotate. Also dp you have a video on how to build stairs to view above like you mentioned with the warthog?
Press Z on keyboard to rotate walls that are on the grid while selected. As for the stairs I don't have one specific for that but I do have pathing tutorials on the channel
Great tutorial, but I'm hoping you can help me with one thing. When I've finished my enclosures and put my doors on (as shown in the video) my zoo keepers don't enter them. I try to place animals in the enclosures but it seems like the doors don't work..I've done it the exact same way in this video
Make sure habitat gate is connect to the path and that all nill barriers are connected. If still not working then put animals in quarantine before placing in habitat
👎It went bad, Adam I tried your tutorial and i followed it step by step but then when i was gonna place my warthogs in, it said cant place do you know whats happening? Edit: I checked my whole Enclosure and it was all secure tight walls and no holes.
did you put in habitat gate and null barriers ? if so and still dousnt let you place animal, put in trade centre, press play and try to place in again making sure the path is also connected to the habitat gate
I tried adding a gate and it wouldn't let my door face outwards. And also I couldn't make the glass close to the wall thingy without there being a gap in between.
I Love the video, But as I am going step by step with you nothing is working how it is working for you, So far I couldn't do the initial path hint due to obstruction, and now I cannot add the staff buildings to the main entrance grid like you did! What am I doing wrong!?!
It's very hard to see where you are going wrong without watching you play the game but for adding buildings to a group, make sure in the options bottom right that add building to existing group is ticked then hover the building over the entrance and left click to add it to that group
@@adamup I was able to figure out how to add the building to the entrance grid last night on my own. Now all I have issues with is getting the pathing from the entrance grid, it says obstructed. I know its a small issue lol but I'm like WORK FOR ME!!!! :p Other than that, great tips on the rest of the build.
I have a question, I have been following this guide step by step, however my quarentine says inefficient, please can you explain what that means and how to fix it as I can't move my animals there
There is no reason for it to say that, if you patgs are connected, you have staff employed and it has power and if you mean it says that but it still works then dont worry about it
inefficient doesnt mean that its not working, but rather that its, well inefficient, cause the building costs upkeep but since you dont have animals inside, it doesnt break even. But when you cant put animals inside and you're sure the paths are connected, maybe the quarentine isnt in the same work zone as the keepers hut and the vet, so the staff wont go there
so i just got this game today... i thought its similar to zoo tycoon but it doesn have a starting internal tutorial? I can't even find where to make path, and everything is confusing! And i select facilities, the screen for the making part is just black, cannot do anything. Zoo tycoon is easier
Also, this makes my autistic heart happy. Why do I need to make my zoo with random organic shapes? I will happily make a square zoo and why not make it in fantasy colours too? 🤣
I got a lot of people asking for a follow on video from this. So here it is: ua-cam.com/video/uKudnkZC-c4/v-deo.html

Honestly using what instead of that all the time confuses my brain so much. But the tutorial is helpful thanks.
This is sooo cool 😝😝😝
Thank you!
thanks a lot (new player on ps5)
My power aint reaching the habbitats. Soo i had to tweak it in my own way to make my own layout. But this helped me alot of how to think. Btw im on console.
Cheers!
You're welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this! My first zoo was a mess and this set me off to a great start. My education is only 4% even though I did what you did. Did I do something wrong?
I almost lost my shit trying to make that enclosure but damn it looks nice. I can’t get the door or glass to duplicate tho.
I never said it was bug or deny it wasn't my fault, I simply stated that the path system I and others struggled with
I love this video and can get the pathing down but when I go to work on the habitat I keep messing up.
Hold shift and move mouse up or down
Im a new player and it wont allow me to add the facilities to the group or grid do you have any suggestions on what could fix this problem. My buildings just passthrough each other as i try to place them and the button that says add to building doesnt show up.
When you are selecting a building, in the bottom right there are settings options. Click add to current building
@@adamup thank you so much, cant wait to start building!
For the habitat gate, could you not just use the shop door piece?
Great! I have one problem tho, i cant put the glass barrier inside the walls ;(
he i recognize this is paulsley layout!
I used to play Rollercoaster Tycoon 20 years ago and it wasn't this much of a joke.
thanks bro
You're welcome
Snapping to the starting building is causing major problems for me, buildings are sinking into the ground and the vet is in same place as yours but apparently isn't there. Anyone else have similar issues?
when I tried duplicating the habitat, it only duplicated the walls, but not the barriers and the door :( does anyone know a fix for that?
How did it let you rotate while building the walls? I've tried while in the group, and it won't let me rotate. Also dp you have a video on how to build stairs to view above like you mentioned with the warthog?
Press Z on keyboard to rotate walls that are on the grid while selected. As for the stairs I don't have one specific for that but I do have pathing tutorials on the channel
great idea for the copy paste ..just dosnt take my "invisible" barriers along.. so i have to remake it -.-
It won't let me copy paste it, nor place the null barrier in the wall 🥺
Great tutorial, but I'm hoping you can help me with one thing. When I've finished my enclosures and put my doors on (as shown in the video) my zoo keepers don't enter them. I try to place animals in the enclosures but it seems like the doors don't work..I've done it the exact same way in this video
If you can not put animals in then the barrier is either incomplete or the path to the door is not connected
Hi, I followed step by step but I get an error saying path has no destination and the null barrier is yellow not blue would that make a difference?
Make sure habitat gate is connect to the path and that all nill barriers are connected. If still not working then put animals in quarantine before placing in habitat
I can’t make the paths a square shape even when aligning to grid, how to I make them square?
Bottom right menu when you have a path selected; tick "square edges"
👎It went bad, Adam I tried your tutorial and i followed it step by step but then when i was gonna place my warthogs in, it said cant place do you know whats happening? Edit: I checked my whole Enclosure and it was all secure tight walls and no holes.
did you put in habitat gate and null barriers ? if so and still dousnt let you place animal, put in trade centre, press play and try to place in again making sure the path is also connected to the habitat gate
I’m new and I’m starting my zoo by doing this but my path is round not square how do I fix this
With a path selected, go to path settings (bottom right of screen) and tick on square edges.
I tried adding a gate and it wouldn't let my door face outwards. And also I couldn't make the glass close to the wall thingy without there being a gap in between.
That's strange, if you follow what i do in the video, you shouldn't have any problems, just like i didnt
My non-sandbox zoos always go bankrupt.
Does the doorway wall piece not work with habitat doors?
You can place the habitat gate in it and petty much anything even solid wall and your zoo keeper will still use it
how do you rotate without having to press z and hold it?
Double tap x to rotate. This video I did will help:ua-cam.com/video/aUYzSwXeIUY/v-deo.html
I have a question, I have been following this guide step by step, however my quarentine says inefficient, please can you explain what that means and how to fix it as I can't move my animals there
There is no reason for it to say that, if you patgs are connected, you have staff employed and it has power and if you mean it says that but it still works then dont worry about it
@@adamup paths are all connected up to it that's why I can't work out why it isn't working
@@haylzx1730 could be a bug, report it to frontier
inefficient doesnt mean that its not working, but rather that its, well inefficient, cause the building costs upkeep but since you dont have animals inside, it doesnt break even.
Play the campaign mode
Career mode is the tutorial mode!
Also, this makes my autistic heart happy. Why do I need to make my zoo with random organic shapes? I will happily make a square zoo and why not make it in fantasy colours too? 🤣
I cannot duplicate the enclosure.
