I'm happy to report that on connecting the headphone socket of my tablet to my oscilloscope, I see exactly the same picture on my oscilloscope screen as on the tablet itself. Impressive!

There's no need for a voltage divider. Simply connect the left channel audio to the usual Y axis input to the 'scope and the right channel audio to the X axis input (or the other way around - I can't remember which resulted in the same image rather than a rotated image). Then adjusted the gain on the scope (volts per division) for each channel. The result is the same picture as you see above. Adjusting the volume control on the device playing the video also adjusts the size of the image on the scope. Obviously you need to press whatever buttons on your scope will disconnect the time-base from the X-axis so that you can feed this signal in instead.

I checked this on a software audio analyzer tool which includes a phase meter tingy and even though I use the youtube audio from this video (compressed AAC audio, I believe 128 or 196 kbps), and my meter has the axes at a 45° angle, it still actually shows a lot of detail like most of the mushrooms and even the butterfly. So this is not fake. What a great job!
It's amazing that you animated "real world" images with relatively simple mathematics first of all... but that you did it in a way that's aesthetically pleasing across multiple domains, AND made a totally badass video with a flawless build-up... blew my mind.

I'm trying like hell to get these to work. I got a GW Oscilloscope GOS-622, calibrated it so x and Y are the same, bought the WAVs and tried every setting possible on the scope but except for the fuzzy lines and some circles, nothing looks like in this video...The mushroom head turns out in the half of the mushroom and doesn't look nice, the spirals are nowhere the same,.. I can get the beginning of the spirals video to look exactly the same
