Hi mick could you tell me how to reset the governor arm on the rs100 hp414. Mountfield plastic mower the same one in your video. Got it from someone who undone the pinch bolt at the bottom of the govnor are with the little half moon that you adjust. Mower will start but revs at max power it is a push mower.

    HUNTING IS LEAN.
HONDA GENERATORS THAT HUNT NEED MAIN JET INCREASING ONE SIZE.
TINY DRILL SETS ON EBAY ABOUT £4.
FIND DRILL THAT FITS JET, THEN USE NEXT ONE UP
IF NOT CURED GO ANOTHER SIZE UP....
WORKS ON HUNTINGG FLYMOS AS THE PETROL HAS LOWER CALORIFIC VALUE THAN IN 80'S

Also the slow idle jet.. not just the main jet.. same way to fix it..

Mate, I had the same issue on a 6.5 Kohler, turned out to be the fuel tank filter was clogged badly, great job. Now I have a Lawn-Boy, a newer one 2019 6.5 Kohler, I've been through this thing about 5 times, so I'm down in front of it, sitting Indian style, leggs crossed, spark plug unplugged, for safety, and the mower up on my knees, adjusting the valves, it didn't dawn on me, for a bit, but when I turned the blade by hand hardly is any compression, Hmmmmm, I know what it is, but I thought a blown head gasket ok, but I know not always will you hear air excape from the blown gasket, but I took out the new spark plug, and low and behold, the electrode is covered in carbon, I bet you the intake or exaust valve is hung or stuck open with a chunk of carbon, I will let you know tomorrow..... Great fix BTW.

Mick, just wanted to say a big thank you for the video you posted regarding the carb cleaning of a Mountfield RS100/SP414 petrol mower. My neighbour had a terrible surging on his, so being the helpful guy I am took it off him and proceeded to search the net for a resolution. Your video was spot on and helped anticipate what lay ahead, including which jet was ultimately to blame !! I'm looking to strip my Tecumseh carb next and give the old girl a service with my new found confidence........ Keep up the good work and hope your family are keeping well.

I realise that this is many an instructional video, but it would be worth pointing out any maintenance/ repair to a fuel system should include removal and flushing out of fuel tank. I drum this into the lads in our workshop. Great set of videos. Cheers.

I'm glad those bits will be of use 😁
My ultra sound has been constantly in use since the ethanol based fuel was introduced. It's surprising how it can turn a really mucky float bowl into looking new.
Your not the only one that struggles with those dip sticks.

Much easier to remove and reinstall the throttle linkage and damper spring with the carb pulled out on the studs about 40mm so it lines up with the slot on the black plastic actuator on the carb. It just lifts out. Easy, no need for pliers!
Same when replacing. Put the fuel line back on once the throttle linkage is reconnected. Works on virtually all OHV engines.

Those Mountfield 414's and the silver 41 models with the old sumec engine can be a pain to get right if the carb isn't cleaned. Top tip wind the plastic screw that sets the revs all the way all these chinese engines run so much better with a bit more throttle.
There is one annoying thing with those Tecumseh engines fitted on those ATCO's as the carb they use is a Tiltson which is no longer available even in aftermarket form, only the Deltoro type on the Qualcast versions. A good reasonable price engine swap for the ATCO could be a Loncin, seen a few fitted to various Qualcast Suffolk Punch mowers.
By the way further the conversation we had regarding a leaky HP42 mower, I re cleaned the carb again, found a small amount of dirt that obivously decided to not disapear after the first clean and so far so good no leak. Glad its sorted as its a mower we have serviced and repaired for someone. Runs lovely now, espescially with the speed screw wound all the way in.
