These wheeled strimmers usually have a plastic dome that fits on the underside of the cutting head - this allows easy movement across the ground and sets the cutting height when used as a grass mower. Might be worth checking if yours should have one, it looks like it's possibly missing.

Aloha James. For the rusty paint on the string trimmer metal, you should get some Roto Strippers. They come in fine and coarse units, and if you would put one in a drill that runs 3,000 rpm, it would make quick and efficient work of removing the old paint, and the Roro Strippers will also remove rust very well too. It was amazing to see how the rust had migrated under the paint even though the paint looked pretty good. I successfully removed a ton of rust from a rusty steel set of rocket launch rails using my coarse Roto Stripper. I quickly and easily cleaned up 74 feet of rusty launch rail for a rocket launch, and the Roto Stripper worked very well for removing all of the rust and corrosion from those rocket launch rail segments. It is basically several sets of hardened spring wires held onto a rotating drum that goes into a drill chuck. The faster the drill turns, the better the steel wires of the Roto Stripper work. It also works well to remove rust from brake rotors and drums when I turn them during a brake job. Check it out and see if it would be a useful addition to the suite of tools in your garage. The Roto Strippers would have also made quick work of removing the rust from the pulley grooves on the string trimmer too.

Hello James! If you have a keyless drill chuck? It’s the best way to pull dowel pins out! Just put a washer or a piece of metal in between drill chuck and surface to give you a gap to put a pry bar or screwdriver in to pry up chuck and pull pins. Drill chuck has a lot more grip strength! Retired machinist here! Pulled many pins from work tables!

They're not near as handy as the commercials made them out to seem. They use a pre-cut piece of thick weed eater string. And When you get in to heavy stuff they disappear way way too fast. On the commercials they showed them cutting down small trees and clearing entire pastures. No. Not with this

    • @incredifunk
      @incredifunk 4 місяці тому +1

The only way they would be really handy is if you could mount a cutting wheel like you can put on a straight shaft stihl. You know pretty much looks like a skill saw blade but if you can mount one of those on the bottom of one of these then you'd have something

Really the first zero turn radius mower than I'm aware of. My grandpa had several of them. That's all he would mow with. He got good at repairing them, And you know how a push mower always leaves the nicest looking lawn? Well the Swisher did pretty much the same thing. They would leave a beautiful lawn

Soon as I saw the message above that you were forgetting something when putting on the new gasket, after repeating a few times I saw that you had forgotten to align your timing markers. Man that would have gotten my blood pressure up more than a few notches if I realized this after I had reassembled everything lol Thankfully for me since I also repair clocks and getting all the gears in the correct orientation is critical otherwise the chiming/striking trains will not function correctly, I always ensure two even three times over that all timing markers are lined up before I close up an engine or timing cover. It's the clock repairman in me XD Great vids you have. Keep up the great work.

That was a lot of work. Curious how much of this is hobby enjoyment vs business venture. Seems like a cool mix of both worlds - way to go in making this work for you! Caught your other zero turn radius repair and know how tough it is to debead tires from a rim. Still it made me cringe when watching you attack the tire with those screwdrivers and prying against the rim. I'd have been worried about scraping the rim edge and not able to get a long term tire bead seal. Maybe something like a motorcycle tire spoons but those would not have given you the needed leverage. There is nothing like a tire machine mount to work with that stuff. I live and struggle vicariously through your vlog efforts!

James you're one of the few people I've watched on The Tube involved in mechanical restoration who uses heat correctly. Often I see the bolt to be extracted as well as the surrounding area heated at the same time. With some stuck pieces, that's done in conjunction with rapid cooling with water to shock rust jacking loose but to remove fasteners or, in this case, the governor rod, you expand the surrounding metal with heat to swell it to help with fastener extraction, not the part to be extracted along with the surrounding metal. Also correctly done here is heat and then application of penetrants. The heated metal helps to wick the oil you're using to extract the stuck piece into the stuck area. This engine and housing is one of the worst I've seen you work on. Petrified rubber and mouse!

I have a trim and mow exactly Iike that one. They are a tough little machine and last forever if you take care of them. I live in the desert and you won't believe the weeds and Prarie grass I have cut with the machine. New spark plug and change of oil, and of course new bearing, belts, and bump rollers. Great machine. Good video

Awww look at that beauty just abandoned on the roadside. Pick her up, take her home, make her purr. 😊
Not to blast your PB blast stuff, but brake fluid works wonders. And its much cheaper than pressurized stuff. I just use my old stuff from brake bleedings.

That bit of trash ending up in the fuel bowl after all your hard work.... I've been there. It was most likely hiding in a corner of the fuel tank. Often waiting for a moment of maximized "Screw You" to make itself known. Even if it hadn't been there it only takes a costumer/employee filling the tank one time from a bad/contaminated fuel can to create the issue. So I've learned to always add an inline fuel filter.

Mike, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve commented on your channel or on any UA-cam channels as far as that goes for years. I couldn’t keep quiet anymore and I’ve been watching your channel for years. I absolutely believe the same way you do and I’m thankful the way you put your thoughts out on your channel.
Keep up the good work and god bless you and your family and God bless America!!!

Great work as always! If you keep old grinder flap discs, blunt ones can be good as a first pass against bubbling up rust under paint before palm sanding. It will save some money on sanding sheets.

Me and my neighbor have rescued many push mowers from the curb of death. Most of the time, it was as simple as a new needle valve and seat. They will stick and not let gas into the carb if left sitting over winter without any fuel conditioner of some kind. Good rescue!!

Briggs engines always have their quirks. I have an old Briggs push mower that I revived a few years ago. If you prime it three times, you get nothing. If you prime it six times, it will start on the first pull every time. It is about fifteen years old now and has a cool back story, but it is my favorite mower. I have newer ones, but I still prefer to use that one.

I love those Briggs carbs. They are so simple to work on, and they usually always come back to life if you give them a little TLC. I had someone give me a mower with a Briggs engine that had been sitting in their back yard. They told me it quit running and they parked it and bought a new one. The carb was completely encased in mud. I ran some water over it and gave it a dip in the ultrasonic and it ran like a new carb.
