When I was a kid my mom had us paint terracotta pots as an arts and crafts activity for my homeschooled brothers and I. At the time I was in love with this game, often sneaking out of my room to play it after bedtime. So when the time came to finish up my piece and immortalize a signature, I of course signed it with Rayman. I told my mom I was changing my name. Of course, it didn’t stick and she never called me that. Still have it somewhere in the recesses of the old man’s house to this day. Incredibly beautiful and captivating game.
Videos like these are fun and interesting to come across. Thank you for making this video, it's neat! Also that ain't his ears man, they're his hair :P
The only things you left out were the amazing soundtrack and awesome final boss battle. Aside from that, you pretty much hit all of the other points that I expected you would, and a few that I didn't.
I have the Dreamcast, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS version of this game ❤❤❤ Fun-fact : The DS version is a conversion from the N64 version of the game, and the 3DS version is a conversion from the Dreamcast version of the title.
I loved the original 2D Rayman, and the game deepened quite a bit in Rayman 2, as you noted. The controls on PC felt so good. One of my favourite games ever.
I only played a bit of the 3DS version of Rayman 2, though I'm told it's an inferior port. In fact, a lot of Ubisoft's ports kind of suck, from what I hear. Just one of many, many, MANY problems with the company, I suppose. Still, I remember having vague memories of seeing a friend play this game on their Nintendo 64 back when I was a kid, and it seemed super cool and impressive to me. Also, don't feel too bad for calling Rayman's hair "his ears", it's hard to tell what Rayman's anatomy is. Heck, that bandana around his non-existent neck is now part of a hoodie he always wears, so it's not like this design has been consistent throughout the series.
@@cube2fox I should have elaborated. I mean in terms of the N 64 and Nintendo's nemesis Sony and the futile fight from the big N at the time was only in more recent years acknowledged in respect to the enduring legacy of its amazing groundbreaking games thanks in part to the handheld games, the Wii and especially the switch bringing an unprecedented growth and awareness of Nintendo. Rayman 2 The Great Escape shone on the N64 without doubt.
As much as I appreciate Rare and most Donkey Kong games, it's sad that the starpower of DK64 outshined this far superior game. Rayman 2 deserved praise and impact in the 3D platforming scene, but it instead was waaay overshadowed by the worst game in the platform monkey's library.
I clicked on the video to see, if a Reviewer has some of the same gripes with the game as myself. I was at first disappointed, that you spoke mostly just positive of the game, but then I realized, with a title like this, „what’s so great about Rayman 2“, I have no right to complain, you delivered what you promised, why should I expect something different. So, I don’t want to withheld the biggest gripe I have with this game, so I’m gonna get angry for a bit, be my guest: At first I loved this game, but to complete this game is a nightmare. Why can I just leave the level and safe my progress through the menu?! Why do I always have to finish the level or go to the starting point, that most of the time isn’t reachable anymore?! In general it’s annoying, that you can’t return to the last part of the level, if you reached a area, that had to load. It’s so aggravating, because it would had been so easy fixes. At least my idea with the menu, would had been easy to implement. It’s like in Banjo Kazooie, if you’d die before you gathered all of the 100 notes. Just an unnecessary game design choice. Great video btw.
The art design of Rayman always felt so surreal along with the story and even the gameplay at times.
To this day, Rayman 2 remains my favourite game of all time!
Great game, really wish we had more sequels that exploited whar 3D rayman could do as shown off here

I cant get enough! Thank you
excuse me ,,spin his ears''?
I think I missed Rayman Anatomy class. 😬
I always associated him with the Rabbids, so I thought he had vertical ears too! Lol
@@WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming it's his hair that spins
@@WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming Ngl, I thought those were ears too…. I always thought he was a dog
Great video! Seriously underrated game. That level when he chased and the camera is in the mouth of the opponent.
its been like 20 years and i still think about that level

Rayman 2 should be talked about more
Such an amazingly put together game
As someone who played Rayman 1 and thought it was aight, I was not aware Rayman 2 was straight up a linear 3D platformer. Might find a way to play it.
This channel is going places. Keep it up
Awesome vid! I think you should check Rayman 3 out as well... It's great.

Love Rayman 2 still play it from time to time even to this day.
Ubisoft did good back in those days!
it is hair
amazing video! thank you for this
Not a patch on Rayman 1. But expected given it was the first attemptat 3D.
Dear Ubisoft,
If you're not going to give us another mainline Rayman game, at least remaster/remake Rayman 2 & 3
2:43 kinda like klonoa.

Sadly too little too late! I wholeheartedly agree though. Impeccable game for it's time and still now shines.
It was neither too little nor too late I would argue.

Its his hair not his ears
they are not ears
Weirdly that you call it the great escape as its rayman revolution here
this is a great video, but it slightly bothers me he calls Rayman's hair ears
