$15 Metal Gooseneck is the one for me... Best ratio between plosive and esses reduction and sound quality. The $100 muds the sound a bit too much for me. And I'm listening in a good setup
Hello Edward. On the search for a smaller and good popfilter i found this. Here is a german review, with poptest, of a 3D printed fantastic new and small(8cm) popfilter in a total new design, to print at home for free or buy as a complete set. If you are interested to see. ua-cam.com/video/0rMCNxxhTe4/v-deo.html It works better than the most, for 30€. With printed logo 59€. And it is so small that you can see your monitor easily. The popfilter does not disturb in any way. And thank you for your cool and helpful videos. Excuse my bad english. Shame on me. 😂
The 20$ metal gooseneck isn't the most effective but it really makes your voice sound nicer and clearer compared to some of the others. Probably because of the way it bounces off the metal.
I had a dual metal layer one, after a/b with the goose neck nylon, I noticed the dual metal one was adding this annoying sharp mid high presence spike to my vocals while the nylon was completely transparent. I noticed the dual metal one did it to your vocals here too
this is so well explained but im def going for a sock and a filter combo that sounds so specific for what i need as a gamer! you got a sub out of me amazing video cant love it enough
The cheapest Gooseneck one did BEST!!! OMG! I have the 3rd one (20 dollar one), and it sounds BAD compared to the cheapest one! OMG! Foam one it's just awful. Had I seen this vid before I would have bought the cheapest one! THANK YOU Ed!
Thank you for this very helpful and informative demonstration. It confirms what I've heard with the metal pop filters I've owned or used in studios. Instead of uniform diffusion, metal filters drive the air and sound in one direction away from the microphone. This leads to a reduction in the frequencies below 80 Hz and above 10 kHz in a non-flattering way.
Good video, except it doesn't address the effect of the filter on sound quality. Fortunately it's easy to hear. The $100 gooseneck filter has the best combination of removing pops while being transparent to the sound. Other filters sometimes either don't remove the pops or else they sound like you threw a blanket over the mike (because that's sort of what you did). The only downside to the $100 filter is it costs $100. Ridiculous. They should drop the price before their competitors come out with a $20 clone.
@@stanyoung453 Stan, someone recently reverse engineered that $100 pop filter and you can DIY for next to nothing. Look up a video called "Make your own $99 Hakan Pop filter for $1.66" on UA-cam. Spread the word.
I just watched your video on the box style pop filters and now I am wondering if I should go with the Motion box with the pop filter or just upgrade to a better gooseneck. I record out of my bedroom and I do like having microphone fully enclosed. Do you have any ideas about the sound levels being dampened between those 2 styles? Thank you if you leave a remark. Austin Crawford.. I only have the 1 song on Spotify but maybe with your help I can do more.
My mic always captures the smallest saliva click noises. I have tried recording in different ways sstill didnt help. Its my mic issue or pop filter issue ? I am only struggling with saliva click voices from mouth.
It may be due to lack of acoustic treatment or talking too close to the mic. Keep 6 (untreated room) to 12 (treated room) inch distance from the mic. Also, try hanging sound blankets or, even better, natural wool rugs on your walls for acoustic treatment. Leave a few inches between the blanket and the wall. Stay away from acoustic foams.
Just some feedback, it would have been nice to hear the peter parker bit w/ out any filters, maybe I can hear more diff w/ headphones but they all kinda sound the same for me haha
2 things.. 1: Which gooseneck would you recommend out of the ones you tested? 2: Would you prefer the Motu M2 or Scarlett solo 3rd gen for the interface?
If you are on a budget, the $10 gooseneck is great! If you have the cash, the $100 gooseneck is next level! I like both audio interfaces, but if I had to choose, I would go scarlett.
@@EdwardSmithMusic Thank you bro I really appreciate the feedback and fast reply. Last question why would you prefer the Scarlett over the Muto m2? I love your videos!
For music/voiceover recording avoid attaching anything to the mic or mic stand - a strong plosive is essentially the same as tapping the mic or stand. For gaming/streaming it's less critical, you just want to save your listeners from ugly pops in realtime.
Speaking into the side of a dynamic microphone. Sweet bro.... You're not even demonstrating how to use a microphone correctly let alone the differences between each type of microphone or why you wouldn't use one that clips onto the side if you have to speak into the front of a microphone. You don't know what you're doing.

That expensive gooseneck popfilter is nothing different than an aquarium pumpfilter sponge that you can get for a few dolars or less.
I was thinking the same thing
It’s not the foam that’s expensive, it’s the gooseneck!
I literally made the same from a kitchen sponge, it works wonderfully

You forgot to test the nylon stocking wrapped around a wire coat hanger 😂
6:00 whats the shock mount you used for the AT4033a? it looks so good compared to the stock one it comes with.

@@EdwardSmithMusic so that shock mount came with the AT4033a?
Very great video, thanks for being detailed and testing as well!
The one right before the $100 one sounded best. That's crazy! (The metal one with two circles).
The $20 metal gooseneck sounded the best imo.
Also I seen a guy use a wind screen cover and a pop filter also and it was great
Very true 💪
Hi, thanks for the comparison! What is the mic mount you are using on the NT2-A? At the 02:50 time mark.

Thanks for this video. Just as a point of information, there are pictures of the Beatles using windscreen-type filters, so the design is not new.

BTW, I kknow a lot of jazz producers who would pay $100 to filter the "Pop" out of a jazz vocal.

You should’ve read the sentence normally instead of exaggerating the plosives because it’s inconsistent that way
Did you have a bad experience
WORTHLESS test : you have to begin with unfiltered mic with strong plosives to compare ! NOT comparison base = nothing to compare with = USELESS test.
