    Jon Anderson is 78 and he hits notes that this olde soprano can't I'm 25 years younger. He recovered from 3 months in the hospital to come back and be amazing - that's a HARD ROAD BACK as a mature dude. He's freakin awesome.
    LOVE seeing our group in the audience - Thanks SO MUCH for sharing!

    This is a spinoff of Yes that is absolutely worth seeing live! You get the wonderful voice of Mr. Anderson paired with excellent musicians who accurately recreate the tones of Yes.

      I agree as I was lucky enough to see them on April 29 in a 1000 seat arena, it truly was an incredible show. It’s far exceeded my expectations. Can’t stop thinking about it!

      I would love to see this live rather than the current "Yes" lineup. Compare this version with the current Yes playing the same song, and this blows them away. Plus this group actually has an original Yes member who is the soul of Yes .

      I completely agree that this is worth seeing, which I did in April last year, and I am fortunate to be seeing again next week. For me, though, as Jon Anderson is an original, founding member of YES, and he is YES personified with all that YES represents, I would hardly ever call this a YES spinoff. The "official " aspect of calling it YES, at this point, is irrelevant. Steve Howe has use of the name, but that version of YES, now that Chris and Alan are gone, is not more authentic or valid, in my opinion, than Jon's work with the Band Geeks.

    This must have been a total TRIP for the Band Geeks guys. To actually perform with Jon Anderson from Yes, as his backing band? They have worked so hard for years to come about as close to perfecting the entire Close to the Edge album as possible. Using a female singer in place of Jon, because seriously? Not many males ( except maybe Geddy Lee from Rush ) Could hit them as well. But Damn there's Jon at HOW OLD? Still also coming as "close to the edge" of nailing them all as well? Must have been great for all of them. And I'm glad the audience reacted as I know I would to this performance. As well as I did listening to the Band Geeks version of this as well. WELL DESERVED GUYS!

    The reason that there are 2 keyboard players is Jon asked for it so it sounded a bit more orchestral. That came from Richie himself.

      The deep bass synthwork by the guy on the left (edit: Rob Kipp) was _phenomenal_ . Adds a whole 'nother texture to the highs and lows.

      To bad it took away from a genius keyboard / pianist Chris Clark. He is more then capable to do anything Jon wanted

    • @DetrimentalDerivation
      @DetrimentalDerivation Рік тому +1

      @@jerrynappi7075 Personally speaking, my eyes were often on Chris Clark for his amazing playing, and I totally understand why you'd consider that taking away. If the current band is said to have a Wakeman, he would it be it no doubt. For me though, Chis Clark and Robert Kipp actually complement each other well due to Clark's playing being a constant through the registers while Kipp is more of a sweetener/intensifier at higher and lower registers.
      Like really, do you see any sense of slight between the two at 12:50 onward, when Kipp gets really into it? Standing down in the ground floor (visible in the first few seconds), that both sounded and felt amazing, and they both seem very pleased.
      I could readily be wrong, just not seeing it.

      I wondered about that too, since I check back in now on the Band Geeks,. since the first time I heard them covering YES, around 5 or more years back. I was like Ok, there are 2 keyboard players, WHY? lol. I'd also love if the woman who sang as Jon? Could come out and sing a song or 2 with him. Because she did really well covering him.

      @@DetrimentalDerivation ahh, so I was right again, he is more the Synth guy, freeing up the other keyboard player, who did well trying to be both. I was like, why is there a 2nd keyboard player? The other one covered it all quite well. - Band Geeks doing the entire Close to the Edge album. I do not understand why Chris Clark does not to the solo at about 13.40. He does it note for note to Rick Wakeman's solo. You do not need a second keyboard player. He is by far more then capable to do the entire concert alone. Other then that it is the best Yes music I have ever saw besides when they were as a group. I saw them over 100 times. I can tell you from experience this is the best you will see with The Band Geeks and Chris Clark

      Yes official only has one member from the classic lineup. This band has the same number, and they're mostly better players. Chris Clark plays circles around Geoff Downes, and much as I love Steve Howe, and owe him for giving me so many great guitar parts to try and learn; he's not all he once was.

    Since I couldn't see very well, and with the bass player & Guitarist as well? Both having shaven heads? I believe the bass player is the one who put the band together. He is Richie Castellano of Blue Oyster Cult fame. I really never knew who was in Blue Oyster Cult, but knew I loved them. lol. But in Blue Oyster Cult, he played Rhythm Guitar and Keyboards and sang back up. In Band Geeks, he played lead and bass guitar as well. I guess depending on what song was being done. He often had a bass & guitar around his neck so. He has a channel on here, with the Band Geeks, as I think the channel is named. BUT, here is the link to their entire Cover of Close To the Edge, with the woman vocalist - ua-cam.com/video/TsJKxTDza60/v-deo.html

    • @CaptainBakerJason
      @CaptainBakerJason 10 місяців тому +3

      Richie joined BÖC (on stage, as he was an audio engineer earlier) in 2004 if memory serves as the bassist. After the late, great guitarist and keyboard master Allen Lanier retired for health reasons, Richie was asked if he would like to take on the 2nd guitar and keyboard role for BÖC, this was 2006, I believe.
      Interestingly, the drummer, Andy Ascolese, a friend of Richie and Andy Graziano the guitarist (here) since high school, holds the distinction of subbing for four of the five instrument players in BÖC. Andy filled in on drums, keys, bass, and 2nd guitar … every position save lead guitar. Just a versatile talent who has toured with Todd Rundgren, Utopia & Meat Loaf among others.
      Richie and both Andy A. & Andy G. early in their college days formed Progeny, out of their shared love of Prog. Their originals from that time in the late 90s still hold up well and of course they have only gotten better since. It is a thrill for the Band Geeks to play the music they grew up living with the legendary Jon Anderson. Bet they could never imagined this would happen, but just like they - we too are the winners for this being made a reality. 🎸

His sound is more an Synthesizer type, then the other keyboardist, who I do know from this band. Here are the band geeks with their full version of Close to the Edge. Maybe the drummer might have been off a bit since it seems he is using a full sized drum kit. When you'll see the kit he uses in the band geek studio.
