Special Thanks To:
My uncle Phil Castellano for loaning me his gorgeous Rickenbacker 4001CS Chris Squire Limited Edition Signature Bass #12 of only 1000 made.
Tom Cintula for loaning us his amazing Martin 12 string (which I stupidly broke during this recording and is currently awaiting replacement parts at the repair shop. Sorry Tom!) Please check out Tom’s music here: / tom cintula & the buff...
LR Baggs for promptly sending me replacement parts for Tom’s broken guitar.
Ray Magnuski for loaning us his MBrace guitar stand.
The drums are played on a Roland TD-11 triggering sounds from Native Instruments Abbey Road 70’s drummer. Some of the quieter toms are coming from the Kontakt Factory Library. The triangle is miked with an Audio Technica AE-4100.
The Bass is a Rickenbacker 4001CS going mono into a Universal Audio 4710D. It’s main tone is coming from Line 6 Helix Native. The bass in the first verse is split onto 2 different tracks. A bass an octave down to cover the drop D notes and the harmonics I’m playing sent through a guitar amp with a Leslie speaker inside Helix Native.
Andy Graziano is playing a Martin 12 string equipped with an LR Baggs Element system that sounded incredible. It’s running into the 4710D, then through the Helix Native with an acoustic IR blended in. His electric guitar is a Gibson 335 running through Helix Native. For the lap steel, he’s using a very inexpensive Rogue guitar that was the noisiest thing we ever recorded. It’s also running through Helix Native and getting it’s delay and reverb from Waves’ CLA Epic. That track needed a fair amount of futzing to get it to sound like anything usable.
Phil is playing his Taylor 414ce acoustic going through the 4710D, then through the Helix Native with an acoustic IR blended in. For the 6 string electric he’s playing a Gibson 335. For 12 string he’s using a Rickenbacker 360v64-12. Both guitars are going through a Leslie effect inside of Helix Native. He’s playing a Moog Sub 37 to play the Chris Squire Bass pedals part. That’s going into Waves RBass for some extra brown note action.
Rob is using a Nord for pretty much everything. Some of the synth sounds are coming from AIR Vaccum and Sampletank as well. I ended up using the Mellotron sound directly from the Roland FA-06, so we didn’t do any triggering there. For guitar, Rob is playing a Music Man Silhouette Special into Helix Native with the Leslie Effect.
Ann Marie is playing a Roland A-49 triggering IK Multimedia Syntronik and Sampletank. Her vocal mic is an Audio Technica AT-4047MP going into a Vintech 573 preamp into a DBX 560A compressor, then processed with various Waves plugins inside Pro Tools.
The rest of us are using Audio Technica ATM-510 microphones. For the coins and crosses Leslie effect, the vocals are going through the AIR DB-33 Hammond simulator.
Again I used Waves CLA Mix Hub for a lot of this mix. I think I’ve been watching too many SSL videos on UA-cam lol! I also used a fair bit of CLA Epic and the CLA compressors. I have a Waves J37 tape emulation plugin on the master bus to crunch things up a bit.
We’re all using Audio Technica headphones. Our discreet monitor mixes are being handled by the MOTU 1248 which makes this entire workflow possible.
This performance was taken from several live takes. We recorded and mixed in Avid Pro Tools and Edited the video in Adobe Premiere. The cameras are Zoom Q2n’s.
#Yes #Prog Rock #Band Geek
This is why Jon Anderson picked the Band Geeks as his band for his recent US tour. Fantastic!
Rick Wakeman said in an interview, and I'm paraphrasing, that Yes will probably be around after all of the original members are gone. Different musicians but still Yes. I nominate The Band Geeks.
Its beautiful how the universe works. There are millions of people who could hear this piece of music and never understand why it can bring millions of other people to tears at the pure joy of hearing sound arranged in those specific patterns. And somewhere someone else is saying the same thing about something else that would go six feet over my head.
I've known Yes for 50 years, and I always thought only 5 people on earth could play this music. I was wrong. Super.
singer is a mistake --but I feel that way about all of em except maybe Benoit
I agree. She's a few octaves above Jon Anderson but a great cover indeed. Steve Howe got nothing on the 12 stringer here. 👍
I thought that for the first couple of years I knew of them- Fragile and the the mind blowing Close to the Edge. In the summer of 1974, the band came to a ‘big city’ fairly close by.
When I got to the show, I realized I wasn’t alone! Not by a long shot! And everyone around me knew ALL the lyrics to every song! Well, except for “Tales…”. Then, Rick didn’t know it all that well, either.
It was at my first live Yes show that I heard about the first two albums. They were seriously difficult to obtain as that city became a HUGE Yes town. It was a blessing and a curse because before that show, I assumed I was the band’s only fan, afterwords, I had to share them- which made me feel like I belonged to a movement- but lost my superiority complex, without peer, as their ONLY fan.
I feel otherwise. Her voice made these classics sound new and fresh to me. I fell in love all over again
I totally agree these guys are so special totally blown away with Anderson this is the new Yes ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ the future begins YES indeed
Actually some of the best melodic movement in music written in the second half of the 20th century. Some stunning passages in that song. Very well performed. Bravo!
See you at the Ryman Auditorium July 24, 2024. Can’t wait.
Amo esta cover band.....Su exacta redintion es perfecta!!....emocionado hasta las lágrimas....68 años y escuchando a Yes desde la adolescencia en los 70! Son perfectos! Saludos desde Chile!
It's great to see the younger generation love the same music as I do. It shows that it will live on forever.
One of my favorite Yes songs. You play fantastically well and Ann Marie's voice is superb. This is how to make a grown man cry
I love Ann Marie singing. And playing and ... everything. 💖🌷🙏
Kisses from Brazil 😙
this is incredible. brought tears to my eyes to hear such an incredible song covered that well. just beautiful !!
It's the best cover of a prog classic song I've heard with the exception of Awaken by Todmobile featuring Jon Anderson on vocals. Awaken actually improves on the original, though, while this is a masterful copy. Although they all nail their parts, the guitarist is the MVP.
Made me cry too
Doesn’t get more positive then YES!
One of the Top 5 cover bands in the history of cover bands.
And it's not just one band that they cover.... everything from Wilson Phillips to Black Sabbath to Alanis...
Totally agree
the FIRST
THE TOP! And now everybody knows
Once again. Richie and the Bandgeeks bring all the emotion of that soaring song to life, the sound effects are duplicated to a tee. As usual. Can’t be surprised anymore. Bravissimo again.
As a YES fan, you definitely did this justice
I seen Yes in 2008 in Dublin ..
Tribute singer in for Jon ..and Ricks son Oliver on keys ...Steve Chris ( RIP ) and Alan ( RIP) were there ...we gave em a 10 minute standing ovation for And you and I ....Chris had to ask us to sit down !...this was as good ...well done Band Geeks
Brings a certain calmness to a day. Thank you!
You guys must already know how happy this makes people. But in case you didn’t get the memo: this is amazing! I really really really love it! Thank you. You’ve made a happy man very old!
I’m a HUGE fan girl!!!
Yea… absolutely brilliant, the fist bump at the end made me laugh!
Outstanding, beautiful, flawless.......thank you.
Brings me back to my youth. Thank you all for your good work!
Tell me you own a musical instrument store without saying "I own a musical instrument store."
Wow....Mr. Squire is smiling down from heaven! Thanks for all the hours of practice that must of taken.
Are they playing the same bass played by Squire?
@@timothyirwin8974 I believe it is. A Rickenbacker 4001s model. Same as Chris used. You can tell by the dots instead of the shark fins on the fretboard. I believe he mentions it in his bass collection video (Richie, that is).
For the 6 of you to do this song in one take, with this attention to detail, is absolutely amazing! Bravo!
I see Band Geeks doing Yes ... I click Like ... I click Play ... I enjoy
I don't care how old this 'thread' gets - these peeps are friggin' awesome. I can't find the proper words right now to describe how good this is! 💥!
Andy and Richie's first bump was exactly how I felt!
The complexity of Yes remains unsurpassed. You made me a happy man today. Exceptional...
Oh I fucking love this, the youth today won't probably appreciate this, but thanks for keeping it alive, love it
Superb performance. Thank you all.
THAT is how it's done! I was fortunate in my life to have seen this song played live for 1980 Drama tour, 1984 90125 tour, 1989 ABWH tour, 1991 Union tour, 1999 Ladder tour, and finally at Madison Square Garden in 2004 for the 35th Anniversary tour, where it received a 5 minute long standing ovation. This is a special song, one might say immersive and transcendent. It takes you on a journey and reminds you each time of the immense power of music. I salute this ensemble who have done this song the justice it deserves and recognize their outstanding talents. I doubt Jon Anderson himself could find a single flaw in that performance. So glad the YT algorithm treated me to this today!
Ann Marie's voice is just perfect for Jon Anderson's work. I love it so much.
AND ... she is SO CUTE!
Great voice indeed!
Yes she has a sweet voice. She is beautiful too.
And as I understand how UA-cam works. If you sound to much like the original track there is copyright issues. That’s why there HAS TO BE some differences . Otherwise I think they would nail this song to a T. Although this is an amazing version.
She is the only person that sings yes songs that doesn’t make me think of how they sing differently from Jon Anderson. Her voice just sounds right.
Awesome! I could listen to Ann Marie all day.
Only one word: Extraordinary!
There is a reason nobody tries to cover these songs. The songs were created by 5 of the most talented musicians of the era, or any era. Nailing it blows my mind! In fact, dare I say it, your version has just enough of a "harder" feel to it that is gives it a bit more energy (as if that is possible) without taking away any of the beauty of this song. One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed. Even grumpy C Squire (who I have met) would have loved it.
Andy saying the "okay" at the start... *chef's kiss* Fantastic job all around!
OK!
And Richie's reaction haha
Thank you for performing this wonderful song so beautifully. Very uplifting and dare I say; spiritual.
F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.
!!!
the absolute best and you and i I have ever heard amazing thank you for all that painstaking attention to detail and flawless execution
Finally, the opening acoustic guitar part is played like the album. Even Steve never plays it that way anymore. Thank You.
wish I had more thumbs to put up!!!!! Bravo!!!
Best most versatile respectful band on the planet
Made my day and my day just began. This is the song -- as a 13 year old -- that made me 'see' music for the first time. Kudos.
I was also 13 when I first heard Close to the edge album. My head exploded... I was really alive now.
Awwwwwesooooommmme. One of the best cover bands around. Every member a virtuoso.
Thank you , you all were wonderful
Her voice is perfect for Yes. She does an incredible job as do all of them.
They have taken on one of the greatest songs ever written and done it so very proudly.
A LOT of talent in this video. You guys never disappoint and never fail to amaze!
This is an astounding triumph. As always, the work you did to get to this point is evident. Thank you.
I just got the shivers!! Seriously
Amazing. Bravo EXCELLENT! Her voice is so adorable and beautiful!!
Superlative. Simply fantastic musicianship. Blown away. The original Yes bandmates should be smiling down on this immaculate cover. Especially Chris Squire.
I paid good money to see The Australian Pink Floyd Show live. I’d pay to see you guys live.
Fabulous version. The girl's voice is perfect.
RIP Alan White. I'm sure he would be proud of these guys.
Goosebumps. Awesome job! Thank you all. If you ever come Wisconsin I'll be there in a flash! :D
Great job by everyone. Just amazing version of this song. 👍👍🇨🇦
Exceptional … thanks for a walk down memory lane !!! 😎
Absolutely unreal covers of Yes!!! Fortunate to see ORIGINAL YES 3 times, once with Canadian lead singer these guys bring me back to the wonderful sound of Original YES!!!!!!✌
Well Gentlemen, (and Lady) if you came to Australia I'd pay to see you. Lovely.
This lady sings sooo spot on !!! A W E S O M E GUYS !
I ❤ you, guys! You made me cry! It's a good emotion of good times lived! Thank you, indeed! 💜 🎶
I live in Los Angeles area. I would love to see you guys as a yes tribute band do a concert. Do you tour near LA
Ann Marie is IT. Both amazing and beautiful. What an incredible voice. Love the Band Geeks.
That was INSANE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much.
In case you didn't know, Band Geeks are collaborating with THE Jon Anderson, formerly of Yes, for a series of shows next year!
Should you all live another 50 years to hear centenary celebrations of Yes!
My god this song throws me nostalgicly back in time 48 years. To my room as a 15 y/o boy, shy, insecure, full of questions and uncertainties listening to the beautiful music of Yes. And now the Band Geek guys hit me again and brought me to tears looking back and thinking over my life so far. That says it all: you guys nailed it (again) with this cover. Thnx!
Me too friend...but now (at 64) can I play it loud without Dad telling me to "turn that shit down!"
My dad was gone in ‘71. My father and mother gave my brothers and I guitar lessons. Mom bought me (to share, as we didn’t have much) a Silvertone acoustic guitar (which, among others, I really wish I still had) and I used to pick notes along with this great song! Fairly loudly, I may add. Mom was so cool. My brothers, myself and & a couple of friends formed a band. We covered (~) Yes, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, James Gang & ZZ Top tunes. I listened to CTTE so many times, I lost count many many years ago. This song is timeless. Thank you Band Geeks. Excellent cover!
That my friend, is the power of good music.
Same here, pal. It was 1972, I was 15/16 then. I'm and 65 now and still have shivers and tears in my eyes every single time I listen to this song - my favorite and the most beautiful Yes song ever.
Willie, you were born at the right time. Me, a bit too early. My 15 yr old experience was hearing the Beatles DAY IN THE LIFE for the first time in my boarding school dorm room. I was already in and out of the music major programme at college when i finally "got" this song; a little older, a little more jaded. Stil love it, though.
Ann Marie is great. She is the star of band geek no question all generational talent. It’s sick how much talent she has
The only person you could replace her with is Jon Anderson himself! Oh…wait…
Tears in my eyes... you are amazing. Thank you for bringing it back
Totally awesome!!! Just so amazingly faithful to the feels of the original! Great respect to you all for working together to create this and making a 45 year YES fan so appreciative!
Thank You, Band Geek for covering one of my favorite songs. The devotion and talent required to perform this great song is epic. Bravo to everyone!
I watched this again and the breathtakingly superb details of every musician is astonishing. Thank You again and kudos to everyone who put in the effort to learn and rehearse such a great song. A great talented bunch, all of you!
Wow, I'm grinning ear to ear. Absolutely superb cover.
Saw yuguys tonight at westbury Li.
The show was awesome. Richicjie yu were incredible. Took me back to when I was @18years seeing Yes first time of many times at Roosevelt Stadium in NJ. Closed yur eyes tonight and it was yes on stage great, yur band and Jon.
Gussy greek
This is what skilled musicians do !!!! Super !!!!!
My jaw is on the floor---BRAVO!!!
I often wondered if the music of my age would be carried forward. The Mozart, Bach, Beethoven of my generation. This gives me hope. Thanks Richie.
Great detail on backing vocals
A Damn Fine Effort Lady and Gentlemen. Really Enjoyed That! Keep On Trucking!!! :O)
You all are not Yes but somehow, someway you all took me back to a Yes that I thought I would never hear again. It's like seeing someone you thought was dead, living once again. I know that makes no sense but what you've put together is beyond words. It's perfection. And I might add that I'm a hardcore Jon fan that feels he just can't be replaced because of the uniqueness he brings but your vocals here sit so well with me and capture an innocence that Jon brought. Thank you for this and taking me a to a place I've missed.
THAT MADE ME CRY!😭😭😭❤️🙏🏼 That was a very special and also poignant part in my life at the time.
I still have my torn ticket stubs from the '73 and '74 Yes concerts they performed in Dallas, Texas. This performance is a credit to those concerts.
Excellent!! Thanks so much for playing this! Beautifully done! This is one of my favorite Yes songs.
"Don't you know that you are all Gods"
What a Masterpiece of Perfection and Illumination!
I am Speechless. Thank YOU! SO MUCH!
Revisiting this and still moved at how you capture this extraordinary piece of music so completely - I have to smile that it takes two keyboard players at times to capture one Rick Wakeman! I met him a short while ago as he lives in my area - he loves dogs and I have one so we chatted about dogs for quite some time with my partner and his! Great and witty guy!
I keep coming back to this video. Such an awesome cover. You all did an excellent job!
Brought me to tears. I needed a good cry. Thank you. All of you
Glad I wasn't the only one :-)
@@drkmriggs Yea man. This tune always wrings me out!
Outstanding Geeks! Every note more delicious than the next! Gratzie!
prego
Stunning tribute to one of the greatest songs ever written. That bass and heavenly vocals.
As one of the people who said "now do And You And I!" after Close to the Edge, I'm embarrassed to say I only noticed six months late that you actually did it, so thank you!
Awesome, amazing, my favourite Yes song perfectly covered. A real homage
Ann Marie’s voice sits perfectly within the sounds of YES. Another perfect rendition
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! It took alot of ambition and talent from all of you to take on such a masterpiece. BROVO.
Just beautiful ❤️
May I add that the bass sounded spectacular? The entire band too of course.
That was amazing! Looks like Andy was having a blast! Everything was so spot on! Keys, bass, drums, and the 12 string harmonics were so perfect! Thanks!
That was beautiful. Thank you for taking the time to put this together for us YES fans
WOW I MEAN WOW I'm 68 now I was 19 when I went to see Yes in Phoenix ,that was the Great Awakening for me lll Fantastic Job 🌹
Flabbergasted... absolutely fantastic cover of this gem! Love it! Thanks!
Beautiful! Thank you, and appreciate the work that you all put into this. Wow! Applause!
Breath taking
That was superlative. I have never seen anyone play it this well except for Yes. You should be very, very proud.
I saw Yes at Bingley Hall Staffordshire England in the '70s, this brings the memories back, they were brilliant on the night and so are you guys thanks... Ged in the U.K.
The one with Donovan supporting? If so, I was there.
Absolutely wonderful, incredible, perfect, superlative, masterful, marvellous, magnificent, sublime, tremendous.
Infact really quite delightful.
Paul J Night did you like it? 🤪🤪🤪
Joyful! Triumphant! I've loved YES for decades and they ROCK!
THANK YOU!
Amazing! Thank you. You bring sunshine to a gloomy reality of life in 2021.
Very impressive work! Kudos 🎉
