Suggestion - try Marcus King “Goodbye Carolina” Crossroads Festival. Marcus friend committed suicide and didn’t leave note. Marcus wrote the note - it’s the song. He has been described as a love child from Stevie Ray and Janis Joplin. Enjoy

She was interviewed on a Nashville morning show after the audition and said she was so nervous and unsure of herself that she told the American Idol producer that she didn't think she could go through with the audition and should leave. The producer took her to a room and asked her to perform for him to settle her down, and she said he had tears after she performed. Seeing how her song moved him gave her the strength to go through with the audition.
I love how she just casually says "Loretta Lynn" like the judges may not know who her grandmother was. Lol

She seems like such a sweetheart. She doesn’t walk in the room and give off the vibe like she wants to be the center of attention. She seems like she really has talent and she wants to sing and work hard for it just like her coal mining ancestors. That’s without even mentioning that she seems like an incredible writer too.
Honestly I think her song was weird and disturbing. She could have sang any song but instead she picked one she wrote personally about superficiality and caring more about looking skinny than anything else including bettering the world by helping others. She's thin to begin with so it left me wondering if she was actively starving herself which is beyond sick. Her voice was good in its own way but I found her song to be off-putting to say the least. It sounded like just another attention grabbing ode to mental health disorders and personal self hatred. Gross.

It bothers me so much how no one is talking about how raw, honest and vulnerable this song is. I don't know her grandmother, so maybe I'm bias. But my ex has an eating disorder and I cried. This was beautiful, and raw honest and vulnerable in a way that most people will never be. My hat is off to her, the world needs more of her. She's an angel.

She has a fresh sound and her own songs that she wrote. She not impersonating anybody or trying to sound like anyone else. The singer that get on American Idol try to sound like most singers and want to be and act like them. This is the most original singer with a fresh sound since Tanya Tucker. You need to stop and think she is going places no matter if she wins or not. It doesn't matter who her grandmother is. The reality Emmy has a lot of talent.

Her lyrics are beautiful. It encapsulates exactly what an eating disorder does to you. You see incredible miracles and meeting amazing people and all you can think about is how you want to be skinny. It’s truly not living. I love that the lyrics written like a prayer

You are amazing in your own right. I'm 58 years old and when I was 5 and my sister was 8. We were coming home from Los Angeles and this really pretty, nice lady and her husband were sitting behind my sister and I. She said you cute little girls , with your matching outfits, she gave us candy etc. We had no idea who she was. When we were getting off the plane she said I'm going to walk these little girls to the gate. She held me and my sister's hands. When we reached the gate where my parents were waiting, my mom saw us and screamed Loretta Lynn Omg,etc. We still had no idea who she was, just a really pretty nice lady. My parents were from the south and I'm sure this was one of the highlights of my mom's life. 😎

That is the manifestation of this gifted young woman's struggle. if you are reading these comments Emmy Russell, I think you have shown not only your great gifts as a singer/songwriter, but you are showing courage to share an agonizing disorder. We are here to support you! I was a teacher many years ago and I grew to recognize those with eating disorders in my classroom. i also learned what an agonizing, lonely disorder to have to deal with.

Omgosh! She makes me cry. I love how humble she is and doesn't act entitled in any way. You know, I'm not so sure that she would've told them who her "Legend! First Lady of Country Music" precious Meemaw is, had they not asked her. She wanted to go to make it through, as they all do. To her credit, she didn't expect it and doesn't have a huge balloon that needs to be popped, like a lot of children and grandchildren that come from famous families do. You can tell that she was raised right and not spoiled. She doesn't want to ride on her Meemaw or family's coat tails. She wants to be herself and be known as "Emmy Russel" not, "Oh yeah! She's Loretta Lynn's granddaughter! She can sing! Sign her now!" I mean, I could be wrong. But, I would think that she knows the people to contact that would work everything out for her, and she could just breeze right through it. But, she is not like that at all. This song brought me to tears. I suffered for yrs with eating disorder. I’d challenge myself on how long I could go without food. I’d go so long without that I’d pass out. Yet no one acknowledging that I had an eating disorder. Now it’s went from one extreme to the next. Now I overindulge. I go from one extreme to the next. I can not seem to find a happy medium. It’s all or nothing.

As a senior who got the gift of music in my soul (as do my two younger brothers) from my Daddy, I can verify that it will take you through the bad things in life when no one else is there for you & you’re all alone. God always has a plan & He has blessed you Emmy. Hold on to your blessing & it & God will carry you through anything. (& BTW, Loretta was my hero growing up. Emmy you got this you have a gorgeous voice and beautiful writing ability. I normally don't watch American Idol. I like your music style. It's your own style you don't sound like everyone else. Emmy your music is original and the songs you wrote. I loved your grandma music just as much. I followed Loretta Lynn career since I was a kid growing up in the 70s until her passing. I don't like the singers of today's modern time. I like your original music for me it's a good sound and a fresh sound. I understand I had trouble with eating in the late 70s and early 80s. I got teased in school over it because I was skinny.
