The safe and very very easy way is to simply loosen your camshaft bolts just a little and then you can just sit the rocker on and the tighten the bolts back down. Would even take less time. The reason I say this is because not all the rollers are real easy to get to. So that perfect angle will not be on every one of them. But all the bolts are right on top.
Great idea if using a screw driver. I like using a 10mm wrench. Use the open end in between the rocker and the lifter and lift up, pops the rocker right out. then use the screwdriver at the other end of the rocker pry against the head and tip of the rocker to reinstall. this way you never make contact with the cam lobe. I do this on the 4.7 and 3.7 Dodge engines. The Ford's are very similar.
I bought a pry bar set, they came with short small ones too, and they have rubber guards on the tips of them in the package, so that’s what I use with a rag for cushion. Thanks for sharing bro! 👍
If the valves are pumped up will it still be that easy to pop the rollers on without damaging the adjuster or stem? Also do you have to worry about the keepers?
I do too! Nobody shows that. If u can rotate the Cam, why remove the 3 at All? U gotta rotate the cam putting a few in at a time anyways.. That is what he's saying
Great idea brother. How did it work out for you? My 2valve has a slight tick & I replaced the timing set but it the tick remains. I have a feeling I need a lash adjuster & roller follower.
I noticed those lash adjusters are not pumped up anymore the plunger collapses very easily. It would not be that easy on a lash adjuster that is pumped up. If its worth fixing its worth investing in the tool to do it right. I will give you credit for trying to solve a issue which you have as far as cam damage but there is still risk of bending the valve trying to take the follower off or putting it back on. People need to realize your saving $$ doing it your self spend the $$ for the tool and you'll still get it done cheaper than a garage without messing some thing up.

I had one laying around and it truly does work. Thanks for the idea!

Great idea Cal. Hell yes it works. Thanks for the tune up.
This man is a genius
That's a great tool that u have made

That's insane, you made look easy... awesome definitely gonna try that. 👍👍💯
@Decker Abram i tried also, it worked!!! Incredible
Sweet hack! Thanks for the info!
I wish someone would actually show a video of them turning the cam for the next rocker arm and removing the lash adjuster/lifter
You have to put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt and turn the whole thing to move the cams

It looks like a great idea to me. I may have to try that.

dont you need the special tool to keep the valve spring compressed? so you dont loose the keepers?
That was way to easy...nice tool ..
Trying is better than LOOKING at it , not like my home boys !!
How can you tell which cylinder is the one ticking?
It’s the #3 rear intake valve 99.9% of the time. Check out Fordtechmakuloco channel.
@@Chiefamongsinnerz Thanks mine is on the iron block 5.4 4-valve in-tech in a lincoln navigator.
All the tech guys say just replace them all because they too will be failing.
Where did you get the white plastic hanger?
Off the back of my closet door,,,lol. Sorry. It was years ago when we got it. No idea where it came from.
How would go about turning the crank lobe is on rocker that you need to change out they don't feel like taking the timing chain cover off
Put a 18mm socket on the balancer. You will most likely need to take out the spark plugs.
@@quickcalsgarage4782 thank you for the help
How bad was the job?
If it goes in easy it will fly off easy.
