58:55 Is the Universe Intelligent and Aware?
Are we alone? There’s a reason why this question is so intriguing; it defines how we see ourselves. Finding life would greatly alter our worldview and our place in the cosmos.
Space is vast - full of billions of habitable planets and potential life forms, yet we’ve never detected any. It’s the great silence. The perplexing nature of this is known as the fermi paradox. There are many theories to explain this paradox away:
Maybe we’re too far away from one another.
Being isolated on purpose.
They’re already here but we can't sense them.
We haven’t found anything because our search has just begun.
Transcension hypothesis.
We are the only intelligent life out here in the universe.
We haven’t detected life because we’re searching in the wrong way.
Is it possible that they have transcended the physical limits as we know them? Could they be traveling and communicating in ways we never thought possible or haven’t yet discovered? Do they even perceive space, time, and base reality as we do? We assume they do. We assume a lot, but we have to as it’s all we have to go on. Nevertheless, these assumptions should be explored, examined, and scrutinized.
We will cover all that and more in this video.
Part 1 - The vastness of the observable universe
Part 2 - Hypothetical solutions to the fermi paradox
Part 3 - Our flawed assumptions

Thank-you Wisdom For Life, sincerely. I've entered my 70's now and I have more time to explore my previously squelched sense of wonder. Running a business, raising a family and being a responsible and busy member of society did not help expand my once endless thirst for understanding "what exactly is life". The last I recall I was 8 years old, lying face down in the grass and parting the blades to make passages for travel-bound ants. I always compared my life to theirs imagining there was little difference. A voice told me "You'll always have an awareness of life in the world, no matter what". It was a thought deeper than my ability to comprehend and yet I've never forgotten it. Fast forward 60 some years and I've just put my ear buds in, reclined in my comfy chair, turned on your video and I'm exploring through the grass once again. Thank-you deeply.
Such a wonderful comment. Poetic. Thank you 🙏 please check out the second half of my latest video (is everything alive) and let me know your thoughts on what exactly life is.

@@twisted1800 Thank-you, friend. Yes, the questions are endless as is the desire to quench our thirst.

Glad to know that I am not alone with these kind of thoughts, people are trying to find meaning of life when we don't even know what life is
Some people
Speak for yourself
NatNeXTnanVereVS(motiffMosaicEN2macssLiAif!?)
It starts with being humble and appreciation for everything around us. Society is braking down.. and with that goes respect .. taking things for granted .. it’s a long list.. but along those lines. Some find meaning in their families.. as thats enough to take care of and stay busy with. You give it meaning in the things you love doing.
The more you learn about space, the more freaky and bizarre it becomes. There has to be a truly mind-boggling amount of other life forms out there, wondering also if they're alone too. Just the thought of that excites me so much, my imagination goes into overdrive just thinking about what they could possibly be like! Maybe due to the sheer size of the universe, other civilisations will never meet each other. All part of a bigger plan I think in all honesty. Too bad I'll never get a lot of answers in my lifetime but I'm excited for all the future generations that are going to be discovering so much. As the saying goes 'born too late to explore the planet, born too early to explore the universe.' Rather appropriate for all of us right here right now sadly. In terms of space exploration, we're pretty much at the equivalent of creating the wheel or discovering how to make fire- that's how early we are in our quest for answers.
We will see as far as we look, because it is a simulation.. that is how they work. That doesn’t mean more beings are there
The duration of human life is like a moment in astronomical stadards. What can you know in a moment?
"There has to be a truly mind-boggling amount of other life forms out there"
Pray we humans are the only intelligent life in the universe because if there's more intelligent lifeforms in the universe then the best case scenario for humans is where our expansion in the universe is limited and controlled by those more intelligent lifeforms out of self-preservation. There's many darker scenarios especially after those intelligent lifeforms recognize the long ongoing human history of lying, violence, cheating, stealing, warmongering and greed. Any intelligent life in the universe would easily classify humans as untrustworthy and dangerous or simply a monster type of species.
There's a reason why people who cling to Fermi's Paradox are so stupid: They don't Want to admit that there are other intelligent beings already here, upon this planet: Earth. Denial doesn't make you a respectable scientist. We don't need the approval of the Church of Science. We Know they are here, and orbiting Earth as you read this.
Forget the many civilization..where the gold and diamonds at
The Universe never does things once.
If we're here then there's others.
All of my personal problems in life just got significantly smaller.
Thanks for the video. I needed that.
Right? Well said. Its like we just happen to be a part of this little tiny blip of time. Its just a second really...I feel like this system is created by something. Not like a bearded man in the sky, but more like we are a tiny part of something way bigger. Maybe in a fish tank on some other "things" desk.

I have watched so many videos here on UA-cam about the universe and the aliens but I have never seen someone explaining things this way ,I think the guy understands the universe better than most of us here
how old are you?
Cool Worlds made a video about that subject and it's even better done.
These words are the same thing that I have been thinking but could not communicate what I was thinking.
Regarding the video, in the same way of this truth - our limited knowledge thinks that there was a big bang. It’s hard for us to believe in infinity. We are always thinking of a beginning and an end. We are also bound by gravity and direction.
I learn more about life from this one video than from 20 years of learning and practicing religion, that is saying a lot. Please keep it up, this video should at least have 500 million views.
Try getting out in nature you'll learn even more being isolated in nature for periods of time. Connect with nature it's a part of us deep inside.
Probably the best video on this subject...the illustration of Andromeda colliding with the milky-way was awesome...i always wondered what that would look like.
Thanks for the comments Cistaz. Our night sky would look incredible if we were colliding with another galaxy. I'm sure it would change our entire worldview.
Wow! This is by far the best set of thoughts and ideas about the topic I’ve ever watched. I’ve also been thinking about the physical limitations and our extremely limited understanding of life and physics to have any contact with other civilizations. It’s also very likely that there has been multiple rises and falls of civilization on earth, we are humans and most likely to destroy ourselves before progressing enough to even understand the inter workings of the universe. It’s also amazing how micro and macro worlds are similar, our universe might just be a cell of an organism and we are juts microbes that think they are intelligent, not knowing what true intelligence is.. We are made out of elements as old as the universe and are truly eternal in a sense. I just hope that our consciousness/soul is also preserved after our physical death, and continue its existence in a different dimension. Thank you for the hard work you put into this great video! Your videos are true masterpieces 👍🏻
Thanks! and thanks for the lengthy comment. To me, we need to grow our limited understanding of what life is and what intelligence is. I think the whole galaxy and universe has some type of intelligence that we just can't understand from our tiny perspective...
As far as the soul/consciousness.. I believe our conscious awareness carries on after death. As you said, we are eternal. Thanks for your comment. Also, I clipped the other video you commented on.. might take awhile to process, but you're right - that should be removed.
You perfectly worded what I've always thought. Thinking about what would everything look like if you kept zooming out evokes such a unique feeling that nothing else can bring out. Are we just a cancer cell to some organism? Does our consciousness continue in another form of energy? Is time infinite if you move faster than light? It's all so fascinating. I wish even if it was just visually, that we could see anywhere in the universe. It would be so amazing if you could get close ups of what any planet would really look like if you were standing there.

Very well thought out video. Thanks for publishing it!
Many of the stars we see might not even exist anymore because that’s how long it took for the light to reach us, that’s a crazy thought.
very true
I always think of this quote:
"Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying."
Nothing terrifying about that…
I find the fact that we are alone implausible given the sheer size of the universe.

@@Nocturne83my thoughts exactly
What terrifying is that we are no closer to trying to preserve world peace and care of our planet.

Bro?
What an incredible experience the past hour has been watching this video! It is feeding my mind in spectacular ways! Ways I can immediately understand as well those spatial concepts about our Cosmos which are breathtaking. The immensity of which is an absolute thrill to imagine. Thank you for everything you said. The impact of it continues to astonish me. I have subscribed and look forward to your other videos. Stardust does flow in our veins.
I have long believed that time zones and physical distances of stars and planets from earth will one day be accessable to us in ways we currently do not understand, but will understand at some point in the future.
"Never" is a very poor choice of words when discussing the cosmos.....
I really appreciated this video....
We could be the only civilization in the Milky Way (kind of what I’m inclined to believe), and that may be the case with every galaxy, and there’d still be ~2 trillion civilizations in the obs. universe. Space is nuckin futs. I have been a space junky for a long time, and I still wonder “what the hell are we a part of?” Given the fractal nature of everything we discover, quarks to galaxy clusters, I imagine it’s something way weirder than we’ll ever be able to dream up.
I hear what you're saying but highly doubt we're the only civilization in our ginormous galaxy, to much space just for us don't ya think?
We most likely are not alone, despite how rare. The big problem is the universe in term of time (billon of years old) and space (unimaginable vastness) is too distant for any two intelligent worlds to meet in meaningful ways or even communicate. I much rather those scientists put more effort solving problems on earth. Given the state we are in, I doubt we last long enough to hang out with any alien species.
There could "have" been thousands of technological civilizations in the milky way, but time and distance could make it seem we're alone and we may indeed be effectively alone.
And most likely extremely rare.
I just don’t know how anyone could believe we are the only civilisation in the galaxy? We have studied less than 0.000001% of the stars in the Milky Way. It’s a little like scooping a small cup from the ocean, noticing there are no fish in the cup then saying I don’t believe the ocean has fish.
@@livingart2576the problem with that analogy is that acts as if all of space is habitable. It's not. A lot of space is hostile and chaotic and the fact we've made it this far without some cosmic "fuck you" is absolutely absurd to think about. We've gone from using stones and sticks to having tiny computers in most people's pockets, in which there is limitless information at their disposal at the press of a button. We've watched other habitable planets be completely irradiated by their star, be victim to cosmic collisions, be too close to supernova, be crushed black holes, etc. and in the blink of an eye those planets are gone. It's not too far to believe we're the only civilization in the Milky Way.
Great video, a thought provoking and enlightening commentary. As a modern Pagan I'm struck by the parallels invoked herein with my spirituality; that as a human being I am part of something very much bigger than myself, ultimately created by it on a biological, chemical and physical level as well as sustained by it throughout my life. A life interconnected with every other form of life I know and those I don't know. And when that life is through I will STILL be here, in another chemical and physical form.

We are just the universe observing itself. If one thinks of all the different ways this phenomenon could be manifested, it can easily be realized that our current search for extraterrestrial life is far too narrow in scope.
allow me to paint a more broad point of view. An intellect would think the ladder, the universe has too many probability’s to limit possibilities, with that being said the saying “nothing” is impossible, is far from an exaggeration, it is far unlikely that we are even the only HUMANS in the universe.
@@trismethod hahah yes! Very good point, thank you for sharing it😎
@@trismethod Any intelligent life in the universe would easily classify humans as untrustworthy and dangerous due to our long ongoing history of violence, theft, lies, greed, planetary destruction and warmongering. This means the best case scenario is any intelligent life in the universe would limit and control our expansion in the universe out of their own self-preservation and that's the best case scenario. For many types of intelligent lifeforms humans would easily be classified as vermin to be exterminated. Our best chance is quietly expanding in the galaxy using stealth to locate neighbors before they find us.

I think the fact we still can't replicate life from the basic building blocks is a clue to the great filter. I think the jump from elements to the first cell is the filter.
We don’t know how though, it could take thousands of years of the same condition for a working cell to form

It's not a paradox. It's an unsolved problem. There are may reasons we may not detect life. 1. Life is rarer than we thought. 2. Intelligent life is rarer than we thought, 3. It's too far away. 4. They are avoiding us. 5. They use different technologies than us.
Agree! Those are some of the potential solutions that are in this video. I do like the great filter idea which covers two of your solutions (1 & 2). Thanks for your thoughts.
check video of gigapixel of andromeda , do you see any signs of life there ? - no you don't. Now put yourself from aliens perspective in Andromeda galaxy that would look at gigapixel of Milky Way, would they see life here on Earth ? - no, but it is there and thriving. I think that is the answer to fermi paradox, if we can't see the aliens(yet) that doesn't mean they are not there. Probing 0.000001% of planets and saying oh there's nobody there is unbelievably dumb, especially for scientists who are working on this subject and have very rough measurement of only few planets atmospheres, and saying ah we are alone because we are in simulation xD
What a cool theory! A couple years ago back in high-school I had a similar thought. Although it started as a joke first, I questioned if a cell is alive and small to us, couldn’t our universe just be alive and a “cell” to a larger alive being. So couldn’t put universe just be a cell to a large squirrel? Hence I dubbed it squirrel matter. The more I thought about it the more it seemed possible to me. But thanks for the video it is incredibly eye opening.
@@SkipSpotter thanks I really appreciate that. I would need to touch up on my knowledge about physics and the universe before I would feel confident about posting the theory anywhere. But I will try and develop it and put it onto paper. Thanks

In the Mangala sutta the Buddhist monks reported that the Blessed One was visited by a "shining Being" who just appeared in the assembly. Thank you for a great show. Best wishes !

Great job! I did not see you mention the dark forest hypothesis. I admit it is a bit dark and disturbing, but it is another possibility that we should at least consider. Then "there is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
So that is another possibility, once you reach a certain level of perception and understanding, poof! :)
That could be possible. I believe that we are ai computer programs inside a super program that can and does evolve constantly and possibly resets itself when knowledge reaches a tipping point. A digital snow globe that the program's programming finds necessary to shake periodically.

I never stop thinking about space and the universe, it absolutely fascinates me, I don’t know how some people don’t ever even think about it. To know that we’re living on a rock that’s hurling through space at 67,000 mph, part of a solar system that’s moving at 490,000 mph, and a galaxy that’s moving at 1.3 million mph, how can you not be in awe of that, absolutely unbelievable. What’s even crazier is that the Milky Way Galaxy is just one of 100-200 billion other galaxies, simply insane.
Most recent figure is 1 trillion galaxies!
It's obvious they killed each other and it will happen to us too. Listen you your cravings help each other out instead of feeling a need to always be ahead. Never tell someone what they do is wrong.

Other civilizations don't wanna know us cause we're such a friggin mess😂😂😂😂
We certainly have some 1 star reviews out there....
@@wisdom-for-life mostly.....mostly 1 star reviews. Unless we're a reality show. Earth season 2023 10/10.
We are the part of the universe that aliens roll their windows up and lock their doors when passing thru.
@@vanessalewis1023 we are the Skid Row of the galaxy
@@wisdom-for-lifewhat are your thoughts on all the ufo cases, whistleblowers, navy pilots, governments acknowledging them etc? Wouldn't that contradict everything about the Fermi Paradox?
I felt this. Hard. Very real, very well done. ThankYou
You are insane.
Sometimes i weep when i realiize humans are capable of doing so much and i won't be able to see our advances first hand. But I'll be proud of every intellectual advancement we will make. I believe we'll cure ourselves of our problems and come together in harmony and start exploring currently unimaginable concepts. There is a large chance we'll destroy ourselves but i believe we will prevail against that odd and rise to great heights.
There are so many species in this universe, and the universe is very large, anything you can imagine is real, because universe is infinite
True so true!
Keeps me awake at night
No matter what point you are at with life, you need to dig deeper and ask where it came from. Even Miller and Urey didn’t create life, they just used existing elements. Where did the original hydrogen come from?
Only a divine creator was capable, but you still have the question what created the creator?
@@charlesbaldo if the creator was created then it is not divine. Just because we don't have an answer does not make god the best answer, ancient people used to attribute everything we can explain now to the divine and then we found answers. It ok to say I don't know, as long as we keep searching for the answer
@@zach4968 Thank you, I did not say that the creator was created. Because you are right, then the creator of the creator would be the divinity. God would have to be the one that was always and not created. Its a concept that is impossible to understand if it is dificult to understand, just slightly less difficult to understand where did it all come from? Why is there something.
God would be for lack of a better word the entity that is the creator that was not created.
It is easier to say we don't know than to try to understand the answer. We are not capable of understanding, our minds are too limited.
The Dance of the mixes of space is sometimes seen as a result of all things pushing and pulling the environment of densities and the gas activity of gravity to mixing up and collecting the same way they're is gravity where everything convergence and linnier traveling shape folks flows control over time waves and gass move at super high quality of gas units in the production of flows they spread out to flows of higher gasses in layer's of the different types of gasses we found that the brew caused by the traveling shape atomic to finding lower densities and how they tighten up and convergence happenstance and charges of massive amounts of electricity and gas costs of convergence goldilocks zone in these areas are not able to crossing the void area's

Outstanding lecture!!! Thank you!
They are here on earth in large numbers every single day.. the problem is only that most humans have extreme cognitive dissonance, and also extreme ignorance. 😂

Humans don't know a fraction of what the future holds then behold what was once in the darkness will be brought to the light ! What we do with the new knowledge will define our Fate, Destiny, Probability, and in the end Actuality !!! Live each day as if it were your last ! Life is a gift, not a given !
