  • Painting press-ons is not as simple as just pulling them out of the package and whacking some paint on them. You need to prepare the nail first. If you have watched my old video on preparing and painting press ons, you will notice that I used to buff the surface of each nail. Times have changed and I learned that if you wipe the nail with acetone, it melts the plastic enough so that its slightly sticky and so you don't need to buff it or apply basecoat before painting with colored gel polish.

    Great vid. Must’ve watched it like thrice by now . Lol. I’m just a bit confused still. Most other utubers seem to be buffing their tips,applying primer, base coat and then painting them. I wonder if just wiping w acetone and not buffing them would actually keep the gel on there for long? I’m literally just dipping my fingers in gel and it seems the process is diff for natural and press ons. Sweet vid tho ❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨✨🥰🥰

      Hiya 😊 some tips need buffing and base coat. These ones melt ever so slightly when wiped with acetone. They go sticky so you don't need base-coat or buffing. I have other tips that don't go sticky when wiped with acetone and I have to use base coat for those. There's dozens of ways to do everything in the world of nails, the best thing you can do when you see a new technique is try it for yourself. 😊 Welcome to the world of nails ! Xox

    I love your video! This may be a silly question; if you only make 10 nails, how do you know that they are going to fit your clients nail beds? Everyone has different width nail beds. Are you customizing for people? I never even thought of making press ons for people, but it sounds like a fun creative way to make money.

There's another video explaining this in further detail here on my channel. You won't get rich selling press-ons, but it really is a fun way to earn some money !

    I'm glad that I found your video. I started to make press on nails hopefully to sell. However, when I tried to put them on, they always pop off after a few days. I've tried a few different glues now and the results were the same. From your video, you mentioned don't use hard gel(I didn't know there was hard gel and regular gel) so that the tips can be more flexible. Now, I think that's the key. I found mine was more stiff and I have a big gap in between. I forced it down and they don't feel very comfortable. I will try again tomorrow without the basecoat to see if it was any different. Thanks for your tips!

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie
      @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, that's exactly right!for the longest lasting results they need to take the shape of your natural nail and if they're too stiff, they won't do that. Even if you use lots of gel polish and topcoat, depending on the brand, they will be too stiff. You can join our Facebook group ( I think it's in the description) for more helpful hints! Xo

    I’m just wondering do you file or buff the surface of the nail? Or does the acetone cancel that out as well?

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie
      @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie  2 роки тому +1

      Some brands of tips, you can just use acetone. You will know because it turns them sticky after you wipe them. If they don't go sticky, then forget that and buff them xo

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie

      Some people find it's enough to buff the nail rather than apply base coat. Some people just wipe it off with acetone. I recently had a problem with those Techniques. So now I buff, and use a base coat.

    I am interested in starting this as a hobby. This may be a silly question, but when you go to remove these does the paint come off from soaking them in acetone to get the glue off/ are they one use only?

    • @justme0910
      @justme0910 11 місяців тому

      The paint definitely gets destroyed during the soaking process! Which is unfortunate, but inevitable. If you want to reuse press-on nails, you can try adhesive tabs instead of glue. Good luck on starting your nail art journey!

    Hello, if you sell to clients how do you know what size of nails you should sell to them? I'm not sure if when you purchase the nails if they come in different sized? Thank you :)

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie
      @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie  2 роки тому +1

      Hi ☺️ so when you buy a package of pressons at a high Street store, you get 20-24 nails. That's because usually there are 2 of each size, and there are 10-12 sizes depending on brand. When wearing them, You just pick the ones that fit best, and throw the rest away. The same principle applies when you create nails to sell. Provide 2 of each size. You cannot guarantee that any accent nails will fit the nail that the customer is hoping it would. Usually I will do accent nails on the two biggest, and size 6/7 because these are very common among everyone. There are other options ofcourse, like having the customer take measurements of their nails, but thats not as easy as it sounds.

      If you're soaking them off with acetone you should remove the polish and take down the length. Removal will be a lot easier.
      If you're using the gel adhesive tabs, you can just soak them in warm water and gently remove.

    • @itsbellabug
      @itsbellabug 3 роки тому +11

      Thelifeofmay this has happened to me too and what I have learned to do is to go a size up for every nail and I like to file down the sides a little bit not much at all but just enough so that once it shrinks down it wont be too big. I know this isn’t super helpful but I think when the plastic from the nail and the chemicals in the polishes almost like melts the plastic it is so weird lol but after doing this couple times you should get used to it. If you are worried about not having sizes the you can try to find a different brand of nails that runs their sizes bigger. I hope this was helpful! Have an amazing day!! 😊

      It could be that the light isnt reaching them. If you're using any kind of stand to hold them while you paint them, they could be too high up within the lamp during curing. Either way, if they aren't curing, the light isnt reaching them so check their position and try different things to fix it xo

    Hi! Quick question. If i have a nail polish remover with acetone, can i just use that? I dont know if it willl work the same. And for nails like this, can you use normal bail polish and let it dry overnight, or do you need gel polish? Im a teenager on a budget, and I'd like to learn to paint my press-ons.

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie
      @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie  2 дні тому

      @Choaticsibling1111 hi! Yes, regular nail polish remover with acetone is fine :) regular nail polish is fine too, but it takes a while to dry. 24hrs is probably enough depending on how thick they are painted. The problem arises when you press down on the nail to apply it, if it's not 100% dry it will leave a fingerprint in the polish. I'd reccomend painting one extra nail, that you'll be able to test if it's completely dry without worrying about wrecking it :) have fun!

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie

      If the client hasn't measured their nails, there is no way to know what size they are. Just provide 2 of each size. Accent nails can be done on the most popular size nails eg. 2,5,7. But there's no way to guarantee which fingers they will fit, or if they'll fit any at all. Xo

    Hi, can you help me out plz!I've been making some, but after applying nail polish, the surface wrinkles. I came to know they slip off because the last layer isn't dried enough,but the after drying the first coat itself appears wrinkled even after i buff them.And the the other thing that happens is my nails break from the middle after i glue them on my fingers. I've heard the more number of coats i give the sturdier it becomes,but even after giving 4 coats, it still fractures.

    • @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie
      @NailswithCourtneyCrosbie  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, if it's wrinkling, it's not fully cured. Either the polish is too thick, or it's not compatible with your lamp, or even if it's sitting too high up inside the lamp (if you have it on a stand for example)
      if it's breaking after you apply it, it could be that it's under too much pressure, like if it is too small for your nail and you really had to press down hard to get contact.
      Try thinner coats of polish, use a stick to hold the nail rather than a stand and try a bigger size tip when wearing them.
      Hope this helps xo
