thanks a LOT :) Really helped me. *taking photos is a must-do* Note: don't forget to put back the battery. Note2; As mentioned in the video you *must* plug the laptop on power for the first boot.
Thanks for video! In Russia it comes with 802.11n WiFi card, so I had to replace it with ac one. That was really simple thanks to this disassemble instruction.
Could you make a tutorial on how to clean the vents, please? I've seen a lot of posts online asking how to do this. I haven't tried to open it. And after watching your video, I can't really see an effective way to clean the fans... Please help :D
Great video but who designed this thing? That's a lot of work if I want to upgrade the ram. Intel ark say the newer cpu and chipset supports 32gb ( 2x 16gb) ram.
I hope, I won't have to do this very soon. Sorry. Mine is still working fine, maybe upgrading some RAM soon, but that's pretty much the same as the SSD
Thanks for uploading this video. This procedure looks like it would void the warranty, correct? What is the default RAM configuration? 1 8 GB stick? Sorry if that was mentioned somewhere in the video.

1. How many M.2 does the laptop fit? I believe 2? 2. Whats the maximum capacity on each bay? 3. Once the SSD is installed how can i install a fresh copy of windows on it?MSI doesn't provide a product key? Do i have to use a USB Flash drive? and how does that work? Also, should i raid all the drives? or leave them as is? Any information helps.

hey I got this laptop without an HDD. now I'm trying to put an HDD in it, but the cable I have doesn't have a place to connect (either the connector on the cable I have is wrong or I can't find the right one). what exactly does the hard drive connect to? is it on the flip side of the motherboard? what does the cable look like? is there a replacement part number for it? btw it's a 2.5 inch 22 pin HDD. Thanks!
hi there, thanks for the video. I got myself samsung 970 EVo and I want to add into the second M2 slot. I actually already tried it but after installing it my laptop won't start. Noting at all, no blue light no fans nothing. So I uninstalled it and voila it works again. Am I missing something??
I have just bought this laptop and want to upgrade the RAM. How hard is it? I'm scared looking at this video. It also doesn't help that I don't understand the language. I cant find any other guides.
as the m.2 is just a form factor and connects as SATA express to the PCI express bus, the limitation depends on your system. Anything below 2TB should be no problem for sure. if you use GPT partitioning instead of MBR you can go up to 8192 Exabyte - quite enough for the beginning ;) I'm pretty sure you can build a super fast RAID with the two SSD drives, because MSI also sells such setups with this chipset
+Kiwisaft Design Pretty unlikely considering the chipset limitations. What you need to consider is the chipset and available slots. The GS60 Ghost Pro (or at least the 3k version) doesn't have more than 2 slots, with a max combined of 16GB (2x 8GB). The other element is price. Even if you could find a single 16GB module it would be prohibitively expensive (because there's just not a large enough market/volume for it...yet). The chipset specs also state that they don't support higher than 16GB on this version.
+kabir Moz m.newegg.com/Product/Details?itemnumber=34-152-941 Under Specs, Warranty and Returns and under Memory it states that the maximum memory supported is 32 gb with 16 in each slot
Kiwisaft Design Thank you for the quick reply after all this time. On the msi website i found that the storage is only expandable by 256GB? How come you have installed 500GB? :/
Patrik Betak no there is no screw. i think the size was M2. but you can check if it fits from the backside of the mainboard, so you dont need to unplug everything until you know if it fits or not. the lenght is very variable, i think from 3-6 mm all is good
Has anyone figured out how to replace the keyboard on these? I have one with a dead key, and it's driving me insane. I just have a new keyboard, but it looks like you have to replace the whole top panel ... Is that the case, or can you just replace the keyboard itself?
This video is very helpful. Also for those who doesnt understand the language, it also says you can replace the battery with a pita bread.
sacraty8 is the pita bread better than the original battery?
Albert Feng hahaha! I cant believe I actually made this comment long ago.=P
Thanks for this. I just got a GS60, This will help a lot for upgrades when I run out of warranty.
Thanks very much, the instructions worked out perfectly, installed a 1TB M.2 SSD with no issues.

umm yeah i will be taking this to a certified msi tech. Im normally a do it yourself person. But this looks like rocket science
for some odd reason the screw above the hdd bay doesn't come out! the other 3 that hold the mobo sealed came off pretty easily, but this last one not
is there a skin or protection i can buy for this model that covers the aluminum? i dont want it to get scratched while using it
Great video but who designed this thing? That's a lot of work if I want to upgrade the ram. Intel ark say the newer cpu and chipset supports 32gb ( 2x 16gb) ram.
Can you make an example of opening up the whole thing to clean and apply the thermal paste?
I hope, I won't have to do this very soon. Sorry.
Mine is still working fine, maybe upgrading some RAM soon, but that's pretty much the same as the SSD
Can you upgrade the 860m to , say a, 970m? I heard it was soldered in or something and non-upgradeable for this laptop
it's soldered, as in most notebooks nowadays
Thanks for uploading this video. This procedure looks like it would void the warranty, correct? What is the default RAM configuration? 1 8 GB stick? Sorry if that was mentioned somewhere in the video.
Yes, one screw is below the warranty label. In my configuration there is one 8gb unit and one slot is still empty

Just Fyi the MSI GS60 800 series graphics which i have has only one M.2 SSD slot not 2

What version of the GS60 are you describing?
It's a ghost with the 1080p screen
Gtx 850m
There's ALOT of ghosts with 1080p screen ;) do you have a model number?
Christian Hougaard-Enevoldsen MS-16H4. is that it?

I think the msi doesn't support nvme but only sata driven ssds
@@kiwisaft Thank you for your fast reply. What M2 did you use?
I installed a Crucial CT525MX300SSD4 and a Crucial CT240M500SSD4@@ruidogarian3086

please, what's the battery life like for this particular model?
For normal use (web surfing, word processing) up to 4 hours
what kinds of m.2 will this accept (keying and length)?, I read that it's 256GB maximum is that true?
I installed an Intel 1TB M.2 80MM SATA III SSD 5 with no issues.
I have just bought this laptop and want to upgrade the RAM. How hard is it? I'm scared looking at this video. It also doesn't help that I don't understand the language. I cant find any other guides.
Just activate the English subtitles. It's not too hard, just many cables and screws
Never thought of that. Thanks
What is the maximum capacity the m.2 slot can take? Can I install two 480GB m.2 hard drives?
as the m.2 is just a form factor and connects as SATA express to the PCI express bus, the limitation depends on your system. Anything below 2TB should be no problem for sure. if you use GPT partitioning instead of MBR you can go up to 8192 Exabyte - quite enough for the beginning ;)

Oh ok. MSI supports two m.2 sata slots with this laptop. I plan on eventually removing the 1TB drive.
does anybody know the dimensions of the hard drive that comes stock on the laptop?
2.5
Hi what is the max RAM that this model supports?
2 slots and the largest side made for laptops per card is 8gb so 16gb
can i put in 16 + 16 for a total of 32 for RAM .. will the system support it ???
+kabir Moz I really don't know, but I guess so. maybe you can check the chipset specifications
+Kiwisaft Design Pretty unlikely considering the chipset limitations. What you need to consider is the chipset and available slots. how many SSDs can i fit into this thing? I need more storage ......
Two
Kiwisaft Design So that means that I could mount a total of drives?
Albert Feng depends if you use the pita bread or not
usually the math is like 1 + 2. sorry have no calculator at hand, but maybe you have
Kiwisaft Design Lol! Nice vid! Thanks :) Also, how did you know this? Did you just try it out?
Jiga Loo I mean the whole demount operations ofc :D
Do you remember what brand the ram was?
No, I couldn't see, because it is on the lower side. But CPU-Z says it is a Kingston PC3-12800 800MHz (Part Number MSI16D3LS1KBG/8G)
Only 800MHz? Looks like I'll be replacing that.
Kiwisaft Design PC3-12800 is normally 1600Mhz?

Emiel Van Belle I guess this is not true. there is no such limit. it works perfectly
Emiel Van Belle looks like this is the maximum ssd storage they offer, not the maximum possible. you can check the chipset specs
Oh, thank you, and could you check the ssd i said? I am quite new to all of this and i don't want to waste that much money...

SSD PCI-E or SATA?
SATA
So the battery can be removed and replaced!!! Just like the gs70 :D
try to find a replacement first....
This laptop can play the game 10 hours of continuous
You should have anti-static protection... Great video otherwise.
