After a lot of research, I purchased this laptop. I have found that _none_ of reviews I had read accurately represented my experience with this laptop, and some info is completely wrong. So, if someone is considering getting one of those, here's my experience with it, after 6 months of almost exclusive use: Positive: * It has the best screen I have ever seen on a laptop. Not as good as a desktop screen, but I love it. * Performance: it crushes any game that's a couple years old. Some old games resist modern GPUs. Compromises are obviously needed for new games, but you already knew that. * Battery life is 3-5h when doing office work. Don't play games unplugged. Neutral: * Appearance. While very stylish (except for the screen padding), it looks disgustingly stained after a few months of use. Quite hard to clean, too. * The keyboard looks cool and feels pleasantly crunchy, but the layout is wrong. After months of use, I still mess up buttons all the time. Negative: * The powerbrick is massive and defeats the portability of having a thin laptop. * The fans run _really_ loud. You can hear it through headphones. Not only that, but at average temperatures the fans will often go back and forth between 0 and 4000 rpm. It's an extremely annoying problem, that's been known for a long time but never addressed. * I have no words for how badly they messed up the soundcard. You literally, very audibly, can hear interference from traffic on 2/3 USB ports. This practically reduces your USB ports to one. And the mic is better at picking up the sound of the cooling system than my voice. The people you voicecall will always complain about noise. * It comes with tons of bloatware. Some of it you will get rid of (like Norton), some of it you can't. For example, the program that handles keyboard backlight is an ugly 150MB startup burden, but removing it will leave your keyboard permanently bright red. So, in conclusion. Is it a good tool? Mostly. Is the quality as high as the pricetag? Not really. Is it worth the money? I don't regret it. It is a very good jack-of-all-trades. But in retrospect, I would have bought two machines for the same combined price: one for portability, one for gaming.
blazernhan If the specs are the same, it all comes down to how much you care about bulkiness vs heat. I haven't used the GE, but I would assume it will be of equal (or better) quality, minus the noise. Other than the soundcard, the GS doesn't have problems it shouldn't have, given what it is. The laptop doesn't burn your hands, but the CPU gets really hot (much more than the GPU, over 80C when gaming), as most reviews correctly say. A more efficient CPU would definitely be a good idea. I can't tell you how much it matters, because I haven't tested any newer versions. Slimming down and power PCs are antithetical. You can't be 100% satisfied with both. I needed a machine with a powerful CPU that I would carry around for work. Making it a gaming PC was a small step for me, and I keep my appartement cold. A slim machine is attractive, but you have to be honest with yourself. If you only want it for gaming, or if it's going to be sitting at home 90% of the time, get the bulky one.
DarKMaTTeR Which GS60 do you have? The one with the 970m? I've been hunting this laptop for a while. A lot of people have been pointing to the Macboo- Razerblade 2015 which seems to be really good, but that Gold GS60 looks amazing. I wanted a laptop that is good for games and extremely mobile since I'm rarely home. There's also a Aorus x5 but that's not out.
DarKMaTTeR Got one for about a year. I don't have issues with USB, nor can hear fans with my headphones. (they're not apple's shitty headphones though). I got it without OS, so no crappy software. It looks like it was still new, so no problems here to me (i'm using it about 13 hours a day) But i have some negative points : • The rubber under the laptop is gone (two got away, i threw away the others) • Battery life is like 2/3 of what it was (like i said it's turned on 13h/day so...) • The drive's slot is dead. I wasn't using it, but damn. • Oh damn those fingerprints, i'm cleaning it everyday. And my positive points : • keyboard is gorgeous for a laptop. You may miss, but i don't, and it's the best experience i had with a notebook keyboard. Super awesome. Great quality. And it has a numpad ! this thing everyone seems to hate ! Yaaay ! • The screen is also the best i've seen on a laptop. Mate display, IPS, deltaE < 3 for those who seek color accuracy. The perfect and so fucking rare combo. • Trackpad feels great. Maybe not the best, but after quite a time using it, i'm loving it. And one last negative point but... it's pointless. When you close it, it still can move a little bit when you take it under the arm. But yeah, that's nothing. Definitely worth the price though.
***** The interference is after the amplification, so if you're using headphones with high resistance, you won't really notice. Maybe the flaw doesn't exist on every unit, but I'm definitely not alone. Regardless, it is a symptom of the overall lack of attention on the audio parts.
brushed aluminum in something that you are suped to handlevery often? are you crazy msi? other than that, not complains, correct in some areas and good in others, I'll get cooling over sound any day, and use earphones
TheComputerNerd0101 The Haswell microarchitecture was only announced in the summer of last year. What do you mean "My Lenovo has had that for a long time"?
So glad they dumped the glowing "dragon eyes" LEDs on the back. This is one I might actually buy. Also, I love the new editing with text on the screen. Great job, Linus!
This is the kind of high quality, extensive, yet quick review that I have come to expect from Linus. Good job. I've been a fan of MSI gaming notebooks for a long time, and this one combines great weight/thickness, performance and build quality. The Pro model surely will be even better.
ive been holding off on buying a battery pack for a long time. i could never really decide. But I just bought this one on amazon. Thanks for helping me pick one!
To be honest, fleshlights are the Beats by Dre of masturbatory tools except you cant show yours off to your friends. They're clunky, dont stay warm and are ridiculously overpriced. With the fleshlight brand, the money goes into marketing. _Just a little awkward rant_
Used this for the past 6years. The back panel warped from the heat after less than 2years of use. If i could go back in time, I would buy the razor over this.
Glad to see all these gaming notebooks are nice and thin like a regular notebook now. No more suitcases that make you wonder why they just don't buy a small desktop instead ;p
I think the powerhouse notebooks will still be huge but yeah its nice to see great alternatives.. hopefully by next year these things will drop down in price to match their 'big brother' counter parts..
better screen better sound better keyboard, the weight diff u cant even notice it unless u hold both of them but the 1.6inch size diff is very large. Both are good models but razer to me is selling it way overpriced. Not sure abt the price of this thou
The pricing of this the non pro version is going for about $2000 o.o for $200 you can get the blade with better screen, looks, and gpu. The price may change ounce the pro version releases
That extra backslash is what annoys me the most about that keyboard. It's just an unnecessary shortening of the spacebar, because there's a perfectly fine backslash right above the enter key.
bossgamer107 All they did was swap the position of the windows and function keys. I think that makes sense especially for those who carry a gaming mouse with them. But the extra backslash is odd, not sure what the benefit of that is supposed to be.
HiVoltag3R i find this laptop to be pretty interesting for us gamers on the go that travel for work reasons and allow us to not be looked liek an unexperienced teenager in a suit
I own an MSI gaming laptop which i have been using as a desktop replacement for almost a year now and i can say they are a solid company that knows what they are doing. If i had the money this would be a no-brainer for me even though i think the Razer Blade looks a lot slicker :)

Though i am glad to see that the jacks are on the side rather than in my front... usually where my waist is. Actually the movement of the windows button is a great idea, its to stop you pressing it by accident while gaming and exiting out.
you know its fucking good when linus is wearing gloves to handle it
Or fingerprint sensitive prrhaps. .
salihoglu87 sensitive to a permanent way.

Black intel sticker. I'm buying.
My Lenovo has had that for a long time. And yes, it's a Haswell chip.
TheComputerNerd0101 Long time = 1 year. Cool story.
If you couldn't understand it, I meant it wasn't something new.
TheComputerNerd0101 The Haswell microarchitecture was only announced in the summer of last year. What do you mean "My Lenovo has had that for a long time"?
If you could read the above, I tried to say it's not something new. In other words, it's been done before.
That bezel is incredibly thick! The screen looks so small
So glad they dumped the glowing "dragon eyes" LEDs on the back. This is one I might actually buy.
Also, I love the new editing with text on the screen. Great job, Linus!
You can't look me in the face and tell me he wasn't just about to say "Flesh Light" LOL
This was kind of jarring coming from an older review. You really raced through and covered everything very quickly and efficiently, good job :D
If it was a fleshlight then I'd definitely have to buy one of those portable batteries.
This is the kind of high quality, extensive, yet quick review that I have come to expect from Linus. Good job. I've been a fan of MSI gaming notebooks for a long time, and this one combines great weight/thickness, performance and build quality. The Pro model surely will be even better.
11:02 flesh light linus?....really...
that slip up @11.04 made the video that much better
11:03 "flesh light" LOLOLOL
Dude's wife is obviously neglecting him. It's time for a mistress. And a few lawyer/accountant/private detective consultations.
OMG Edzel is so awesome! Definitely my favorite person in the world!
LOL! He was about to say fleshlight. XD This is why Linus is amazing.
i was hoping some one ells heard that as well!
Loved that you pulled it apart showed the insides.
"Although I did see norton in there......" *squints* LMAOOOOO
ive been holding off on buying a battery pack for a long time. i could never really decide. But I just bought this one on amazon. Thanks for helping me pick one!

Austin you bought what?

I'm obsessed with Linus Old gaming laptop reviews.
That Windows key placement is a big mistake. It would be a pain in the backside.
dont press it silly clumsy man
Apparently you have never seen a good keyboard.

Yeah the backslash is odd. Have you actually ever used a keyboard like this on Windows 8? You really use it a lot.
I've been considering getting one of these and I am glad I found this video. Great job on a thorough and detailed review.
Ooh I want one to replace my MacBook Air. Glad the keyboard is good. But the bezel is ugly.
whoa twice the price as well
i think edzel is a pretty cool guy, he does all the work in the background but its the most important work.
what kind of fucking gaming laptop is that, needs more leds and neon colors, also its not ugly enough.
really? it has to be full covered of LED light to be a good gaming laptop?..really???...LOL hope you are kidding.
dementedp It has to be at least 69% covered in leds
HiVoltag3R lool

"The fleshli- The flashlight"
Oh Linus you crazy cat.
I don't think people talk about just how awesome Edzel is enough. Pretty swish dude if you ask me. Also, thanks for the battery deal.
oh and edzel is awesome!
Hey Linus.
Edsel put something you should look at @11:14:) happy looking
Love all your videos man, I would love to see a more frequent news show( and yes I know about net linked daily
*bows to Edzel*
Thank God there's someone who talks using metric measurements!!!
what about it's perfomance :\
2 words...holy fcuk! nerdgasm lol
Edzel is so awesome, you should totally give hime a raise.
did he say the price?
I always link the price in the video description.
$2k, probably a good idea not to say the price..
lol thx
its $1200 now :)
its $829 now

fleshlight slip lol
Has anyone ever realized how awesome Edzel is? He does all this hard work editing these videos and he never gets any credit :(
11:04 fleshlight. Got em!
+Matt Chae Is this for kids too?
this was an extremely thorough review review! subscribed
holy shit, you have an ad with u in it.. On your own video
You must be so grateful to have Edzel in your team!
Edzel is awesome ;p
This comment is unexpected but appreciated!
well im not the only one who got the msg or am i seeing things? haha
p.s. omg u should become a hand model huehue
Edzel Yago It's... you!
Sexy hands btw
Nice video. I have the MSI GE60, great laptops. Glad to see your reviewing less non tech related crap. Thumbs up!
That bezel is disgusting. Straight 2002 style
I have a few questions:
1) what about battery life (low brightness, WLAN) - for office work?
2) what about a power USB?
3) is it possible to upgrade memory and SSD without losging guarantee by yourself?
LOL at people crying about bezel size. In reality you don't even notice it really because of the size on the resolution of the screen.
But the bezels though....(kidding)
So I just got the GS60 Ghost pro 3K edition (yes 3k screen) , best notebook I've ever had.
I take Cooling over sound any day!.
Ikr, who needs to use speakers anyways. Whenever I game, I use headphones.
Louis Ward I have a Lenovo R500 laptop ( REALLY like it for what it is ) but the speakers are Pretty bad when there are high sounds you can really hear it but the laptop is pretty well cooled :)
CRILLER3 exactly my point :)
Great review. Actually went in depth inside and out. Every review should be like this.
The Bezel is HUGE. It's ugly. Also, get that Norton off of there. Even if you have to reinstall a clean OS.
That's the border around the screen right? Cause it is pretty big particularly at the bottom.
Tristan3214 Yep. It's the border around the screen. The humongous and horrendous border around the screen. Seriously. They fucked that up a little bit.
yes Yes YES!!!
It is big and ugly...
***** Yeah just like your profile picture...
Edzel always does an excellent job on these videos! Oh and the rest of the LTT team as well I suppose! =P Keep it up, I love it!
Thick bezel though
I want this. Good job Linus, the gloves always do it for me.
hmmmm this or razer blade? decisions..
Blade
This
This. If you're used to IPS, going to a TN just doesn't cut it.
I meant the new razer blade
Yeah the new arzer blade is an igzo ips panel that is going to be 3200x1800 resolution the price of it though is just wow considering it's $2200 for a 128 gb version and you void the warranty by opening it up and installing a new ssd >.
This is incredible...i havent followed laptop tech at all but this notebook gives the same performance as my 4 year old clevo and that thing weighs in at 8kg...
that bezel though... probably the only thing i dont like about it.
Awesome review! Such a sexy laptop!
That awesome Cheero Grip 2! Definitely buying that using the Amazon link on your website! Now I can power use my Nexus 5 every day :D
i dont like the frame around the screen
Edzel neeeeeds a pay raise for his awesomeness
hahahahahahaha Linus said FleshLight hahahaha
Such a tough choice after watching this. The Razer - beyond my budget. The lenovo Y50 doesn't seem to be accessible yet in Australia but probably not far. The other options are Asus G55. Still not convinced but i'm glas to see the manufacturers on the right track for gaming. Thin, light and a happy medium between good frame rates and build quality.
norton....
*shudders in disgust*
eeeeeeeeeeeewwww
Nice colour correction!. Looks alot better than when you first moved to the new HQ
The bezel is way too big.
Mybe they will fix it in 3k version.
Edzel is super awesome!
Why the hell is he wearing gloves? Did he like steal of or something
Did you even watch the full review?
That made me laugh out loud.
Pretty solid laptop. For me onboard audio is not much of a concern. I always wear headphones with my laptop and its always through a USB DAC. Though i am glad to see that the jacks are on the side rather than in my front... usually where my waist is. Had an old IBM (right before Lenovo buying the PC division) get its audio jack unseated because of that, which prompted me to get the DAC, then prompted me to never use onboard audio with any computer ever again.
edzel is great
congratulations for the work, great content and most importantly, says the negatives of products! keep forever!
Just get the RoG G750
I bought one two years ago and shes still going strong. The newer models must be beasts. They are, no joke, MUCH heavier and thicker the GS60, but as a laptop in the "desktop replacement" category, you can't go wrong.
8/10 would buy again.
Rog Ftw
This is aimed at a different market then the big and beefy G750,
Vega M is right though, this is aimed at a different market than the G750, probably the student who also plays games, who needs to be able to take it to class with them.
Awemage i am gonna take the RoG to schools i already hav a massive gaming laptop from 2010 the asus N53J
You helped me decide on picking this up with this review. Thanks, Linus!
Fleshligh I mean flashlight :)
Especially with a new series, i would have liked more information about the GPU in the review!! Come on Linus, you rarely miss those things! still a great review!
sounds like your smart enough to google it yourself
Fuck I need some money!
Just ask Donald trump for a small loan of $2000
Edzel is so awesome. I felt compelled to say that 8-)
Fleshlight? What? Who said that?
I love this guy's reviews! Good job.
he must of jacked it cuse hes got gloves on so he wont get finger prints on it ha jk
I wanted to hear about the battery in general day-to-day use!
That bezel is just horrible!
I don't like the positioning on the power connector, corners are where it's at the get them out of the way when plugged in. But it was probably a decision to help with cooling, so it's pretty understandable.
Not sexy because of the screen frame inportionality
the top mounted ventilation makes it kind of a deal breaker. itll overheat if you close the lid and use an external display.
lel flesh light
I have the MSI GS70. I REALLY wish I had waited a bit longer to get the GS60.
I honestly use it for video editing on the go. It does a fantastic job!
