- The People's Liberation Army utilizes several different field rations for their soldiers. The Chinese Military Type 13 Self-Heating ration bears resemblance to the US Meal Ready to Eat but actually includes two main dishes. Menu 3 features Chicken Curry Fried Rice and Noodles with Pork and Mustard Greens. Although it sounds delicious, PLA rations have been known to encounter quality control issues. Notably, Steve1989 suffered illness after his review of this exact MRE. Luckily, my experience was a positive one, and I greatly enjoyed the meal kit!

I saved the foam bags from the Chinese rations I reviewed, they are great insulator bags for using other ration heaters

It's a lot of carbs and they tend to be smaller than American troops. It seems like you wouldn't be full for long.

The Pork &Noodles looks pretty good. I like rice, but don't care for curry. Had a very bad experience in the Navy that threw me off curry for decades. 😮

The one that made him really sick was a current production Ukrainian ration, but he's definitely commented on some of the PLA rations being almost inedible.

ALL MREs world wide are 'bland'. They have to be, one very small nation still has multiple cultures of cuisine. Not everyone comes from a family that uses spices, not every culture has a 'SOUR' palate in their cuisine, not every culture uses a ton of sugar in their foods or foods so processed they look nothing like food... but, every nation who has disciplined organized passionate Warfighters? Those Warfighters may work 24/7/365 until the war is over. Ever move constantly for 24 hours, mostly at a run carrying a load equal to your body weight in a HIGH STRESS environments? Warfighters DO. A Warfighter working can blow more than 8,000 calories in 24 hours. A basic one meal MRE like this one? Its a snack and will tide you over until you have time to actually eat. So, odds are the PLA Troops do what all Troops do.... They haul around a bag of spices and hot sauce to dress up the MRE, and that spoon... $5 says they carry around a Combat Spork and Chopsticks too, probably wrapped up in a rag.
