    As a resident of Kazakhstan, I see that there are a lot of misconceptions here. The Kazakh meat breed is used for consumption, no one ever sits on this horse, nothing is transported on it, and no name is given. A horse is slaughtered at the age of two years. Why are we doing this? The thing is that we were nomads and the land here is not very fertile or the summer is too short.

      There are many societies that eat horse, no big deal. Let people go hungry for a few days, and I bet they would eat the family horse and not think twice. Reality educates people.

    During the UK horse meat scandel, a friend of mine got a burger van, a load of horse meat and made burgers out of them. He then went around the country during the whole scandal selling "100%" horse burgers and the amount of people who decided to give it ago was amazing, they might have had it already in anything meat based in the UK might as well as try the properply advertised stuff. Man made a killing!!

    looks like a great ration. lot's of meat, enough crackers to take up all the fat - they may not win a war but they will also not starve.
    I had no horse meat in 30 years, but I remember it to have been very yummy.

    Horses are livestock, little different from cows, pigs, chickens, etc. They just get better PR. Yeah, I'd eat it. My sister owned horses most of her life. I learned to distrust and avoid them, they can be very dangerous. I see no problem adding them to the food chain.

      I ate salami in Norway made from horse and sheep.
      It tasted quite different from salami made from beef and pork but it was absolutely eatable.

    • @Tricky_Adventures
      @Tricky_Adventures 9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, better PR for horses, dogs, and cats. People eat piles of cows, pigs, chickens, fish, sheep (small amount in the US). They also often name it so you disassociate it from the animal like beef, pork, lamb.

    • @rcrawford42
      @rcrawford42 9 днів тому

      English doesn't have different names for the meat than the animal to "disassociate" the two. We use Anglo-Saxon words for the animal and French words for the meat thanks to the Norman invasion of 1066. The peasants were raising cattle while the nobles demanded boeuf, for example.

    What I love about your reviews is that you keep in mind who these rations are made for. Men and women who NEED the fat and salt. When reviewers critique the contents from a "healthy diet" perspective rather than an energy/survival one, they are missing the point. Would I eat horse meat? Sure. As Americans in particular, we (or the meat lobbyists!) limit ourselves on meat choices, while there are many meats that would help keep more people fed...squirrel, rabbit, frog, more game birds, and yes, horse meat. Raising horses for meat would be no different than raising cows or pigs for meat, but we draw the line at that for some reason. Anyway...great review!

    Hello, RR. It has been several years ago, when I had my only one of these rations. I thought mine had more sides and accessories? I will have to check. The only component I have not tried, is the horse. The Veg. caviar, I like. It works well, mixed into kasha as well. Oh, LOL, It is A little late to warn you, to poke A hole in lid, before boiling cans. I learned that years ago. That lesson stayed with me, as it will you as of now. The horse meat, could not be any more difficult to swallow, than that squid in ink I had. LOL. I would try it as well. Cool review friend. Peace from Ky., John. Great review.

    Although I’ve never eaten horse meat before, I’m willing to eat it, as long as it is slaughtered and prepared in halal manner. Incidentally, halal slaughter for animals such as horses or camels, the slaughter technique is called “nahhr” (نَحر), rather than the technique for animals such as cows, sheep, goats, etc. which is called “dhabhh” (ذَبح).

      I'm fine trying anything that has already been prepared. The horse was already canned regardless of how I feel about it. I'm not a fan of the practice of horse for food personally. The rest of the world may not have the luxury to pick and choose what they will and will not eat in the way we do here in North America.
