I went to a Kenny Rogers concert in the 80's and the opening act was the Righteous Brothers. What a great concert!
Wow, that must have been amazing to see both of them in one night!!! 😊❤️😃
My favorite version is him and Lionel singing it together at Lionel’s ceremony ❤
Kenny started as a rocker with The First Edition.
God this incredible song and voice definitely made lots of babies
Kenny had a great voice, and could really tell a story with his vocal style .. One of his early classics was "Ruby ( Don't Take Your Love To Town )", which he sang when he fronted The First Edition band .. It's about a crippled war veteran whose wife goes out to seek the physical love he can no longer give her .. It's heart-breaking, but melodically it's such a wonderful song .. Highly recommend it ! .. Wayne
"Ruby" is a great song, I also love the Mel Tillis version, especially since he wrote the song. If I am not mistaken, Waylon Jennings was the first to release it
@@js3599 Thanks for that info .. Although I've always loved this song and the way Kenny sings it, I've never thought to check who actually wrote it or who else has recorded it .. I will look up and listen to those versions you mentioned .. Cheers, Wayne
@@wayne_twentyfive Any time.
This song is responsible for a TON of people being here today.
Kenny Rogers started out in rock, with Kenny Rogers & The First Edition
Lionel Richie said he had suggested the song title to the Commodores, but they were not interested in singing it. he then contacted Kenny Rogers to see if he would be interested. Kenny said yes and Lionel Richie finished writing the Song. He said he knew Kenny Rogers had a big fan base and thought country music fans would buy the record as well as Commodore fans. He said it was great to give the Commodores and Kenny Rogers exposure to other Genres. In the 70's and 80's artists would cross genres and perform and write for each other, It was all about the music.
Love that!
Kenny Rogers was a cross over artist. He was played on Country & Main stream radio. He did a string of songs like this in the early 80's.
Hello Marita
Another great "lady" song is "Three Times A Lady" by The Commodores.
This song became Kenny Rogers' biggest hit song ever!!! Not only that this song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Country chart, but it also went to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard AC charts in the fall of 1980. A beautiful song indeed!!!
I'm glad you both got to react to Kenny Rogers' "Lady". Mama Gap is correct. It is a beautiful,/romantic love song. Baby Gap, Kenny Rogers recorded and sang two types of songs. It was either country story songs or romantic love song ballads. "Lady" is obviously the latter. If you would like to react to more of Kenny Rogers beautiful.romantic love songs, I would suggest "Through The years", "She Believes In Me", "You Decorated My Life", and "Love The World Away". If you would like to react to some of Kenny Rogers country story songs, I would suggest "The Gambler", "Coward Of The county", and "Lucille". I'm sure you will love and enjoy all the songs I mentioned. Kenny Rogers is one of the all-time greats.
Kenny Rogers started out with the group The New Christy Minstrels in 1966. In 1967, he joined The First Edition and then went on to a solo career.
Such a pretty song,. Kenny has a beautiful voice. 🎶🎶🎶🎶😍
Hello Carol
Beautiful
He always makes you feel like he is singing to you.
🎶❤🎵
Wonderful reaction ladies. Such a beautiful song by the late Kenny Rogers.
Beautiful love song! Perfectly said Momma Gap! Kenny's voice is so amazing. FYI - Kenny started out in the 60's as a pop/rock singer in The First Edition. Check out I Just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In. Great reaction!
One rock song he did, "Just Dropped in to See what Condition My Condition was In " but my favorite was "Ruby", remake of a Mel Tillis tune. Both worth a listen
❤ ❤
Perhaps you can react to Tom Jones With these hands If you find the right one But Lady is a beautiful romantic song
King of the crossover artists
I love Lady. Somwhow, sometimes I cried when hearing this song.
They didn't call him the Silver Fox for nothin!
They didn’t call Kenny that. Charlie Rich was called The Silver Fox.
@@colleenglaum1755 I've noticed that when a person is correct about somethin, nobody says anything. However, if they're wrong about somethin... they catch it from every aspect imaginable. Ok, I had a lapse in memory. Thank you for pointing it out
@@garyblevins3532, sometimes people do not tell you that you are wrong. For instance, I worked as an English teacher in the Netherlands for two years, and while teaching English there, I was also learning Dutch. As I got better, I kept realising time and again that I used to make many grammatical mistakes when talking to acquaintances in Dutch, and yet not once had any of my Dutch acquaintances corrected me, and that made me feel sad
@@newmankidman5763 how can someone learn without mistakes being made and learning from it. Admission of a wrong doing is the beginning of the lesson to be learned. God knows that I've made plenty of mistakes in my almost 58 years and I continue to learn.
@@garyblevins3532, yes, exactly
Kenny started out with a group called the first edition considered to be Folk music
For people like myself, powerful songs such as this has great meaning and truth, I'm far from a Prude (ask my poor wife on some weeks), but I have my scruples and sense of right and wrong, I almost can guarantee this songs ink wasn't 5 minutes dry Mr. Rogers was already out "Fly Fishing" *- Me (this was the best looking part), March 1977, a group of 5 young Adults crams inside a Ford Pinto, the smallest of the fellows gets to sit atop the Differential Hump, a place with no seat-belts, this was the time the driver decided to see if Both the car and the passengers would survive a direct, center of hood, Massive tree impact, 70 MPH. Well, we survived, car not so much. 1 1/4 years later I got to walk under my own power. Oh, P.S.- forgot, The 1971 Ford Pinto Did Not Explode, so we were in one sense very valuable test subjects !
I saw him in his last interview with he's 22 years old wife, he didn't look the same, but awesome cool song yay, good review 🎤🔥🔥🔥🔥
RIP to one of the best ever!!!!
Love your mother/daughter reactions. Bringing the generations together, instead of the "generation gap" of times gone by. Listen to "Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobby Gentry and you will hear the ethereal voice whispering a mystery while placing you down south in the world where so many of us grew up. Solve the folk music song, and you win the prize.
Look up Lionel & Kenny singing it together shortly before Kenny passed away. He tells the story of the song & their friendship & witnessing them together is just beautiful. You can see the love between them. after a 30 year friendship. Even if you don't react to it, you must watch it. And for the record, this is still country. LOL The genre has evolved immensely. He has another beautiful song that is perfect for long relationships & anniversaries, called 'Through the years'. Stunningly beautiful as well.
A must reaction by Kenny Rogers, is. called “Tell It All Brother “ because the lyrics are still relevant for our time, love this song as well….
I love the song, "Tell it all Brother" but sadly, nobody seems to listen to the hidden gems...they just react to the popular songs. 🙄
@@zapataattack5843 I love that song as well, and now and then I sing it when I do karaoke
Teddy Pendergrass happened to also sing this song, and the passion he puts into it....whew! Kenny could sing Pop,Country,Soul- very talented singer, R.I.P Kenny and Teddy
Saw you both being caught up in his sound. Nice.
Lionel Ritchie wrote the song and pitched it to his band The Commodores, but the band had already done a hit Lady You Bring Me Up, so his bandmates passed on it.
Lionel thought Kenny Rogers voice would be good for it and called Kenny to pitch it to him: the rest is history. The two became great friends and made more songs together.
Great!! Try Kenny Rodgers & The First Edition a band he was with at the time, 1969 "Ruby" ( don't take your love to town)
To be loved by this man in this song...whew!!!!
Kindly react to Through The Years. It is one of his best songs.
Most of the piano in this song reminds me of the soundtrack to the movie Halloween
Kenny Rogers forever !!! ♥️🇨🇦🇫🇷🇧🇪
Another great GGR reaction!
I saw Kenny in concert in 1979. I was young and my mom was a huge fan of his. The experience still lives in my mind like it was last year!
Your guys rule. Favorite new reactors
Thank you Johnny!
Kenny Rogers and The First Edition was a Rock Band
Barry Gibb wrote a incredible song for kenny rogers, its called "you and i" (in fact Barry made for kenny a whole album called "eyes that see in the dark")
As wonderful as Kenny's version on the album is, I like Barry's demo of the brothers' song even better.
@@janicetrimmell6897 yes , i have it...(from the moment these demos went out, much longer before youtube) , in fact i preffer Barry original demo
I have another request for a Kenny Rogers song. Could you please react to "Crazy". This song Kenny Rogers co-wrote with singer-songwriter Richard Marx. If you loved "Lady" then you'll love "Crazy". It is every bit as beautiful and is one of Kenny Rogers hidden gems from his great music song catalog. I don't think mama gap knows this one so it would be the first time for the both of you hearing it. I guarantee you'll love it. I'm sure baby gap would have a good cry because it's so beautiful.
Great song. Beautiful song. I remember this song playing on the radio a lot
If you haven't heard the coward of the county, I highly recommend it, One of my all-time favs
Listen to him in his first group, the Fifth Edition.
Rip To A Great Singer Actor Kenny Rogers, Still Miss You , Always 😢
Lionel is a very prolific writer of love songs. He and Kenny Rogers were good friends. Kenny was making an album at the time and needed one more song to fill out the record. He called Lionel who offered him Lady. Lionel wanted The Commodores to record it, but they felt that it wasn't quite their style. Many years later Kenny and Lionel sang Lady together on stage. It was pure gold. You could tell the love the two had for each other. They were like brothers.
I second watching the video with both Kenny and Lionel together...amazing friendship and emotion displayed.
Speaking of country crossover singers take a look at Glen Campbell. Especially his early work with the great songwriter Jimmy Webb. WICHITA LINEMAN is a great example but BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX will rip your heart out. Handkerchiefs at the ready, ladies!
Mr Unca Buzz… you know a lot about music!
@@generationgapreacts Just a little bit. I was a Top 40 disc jockey on radio in the 70's and 80's.
Please react to I will always love you by kenny rogers written by the BEEGEES and doing backing vocals
This song will make love come out of anybody. Especially if it’s there. 😂. Beautiful ❤
I enjoyed your reaction to this beautiful, romantic love song very much!! One day you may wish to explore three other very different songs, all each also called "Lady"! Try the versions by Styx, Supertramp and Little River Band for some real treats! Keep up the great work!!
👍
RIP Kenny R. 🙏
there is a version of this song that Kenny sings with Lionel its amazing
Thanks for this. Nothing like a nice deep voice and an interesting wide vibrato.
That was my wedding song.
They used to call Kenny Rogers the silver haired fox lol 😊
A beautiful song for two beautiful ladies.😊
This sub genre of country music is called countrypolitan. It’s basically crossover music.
A Beautiful Song, I have shed tears to this many times!
The message of every good man to his good lady.
Kenny is singing to two beautiful ladies .
Beautiful song
One of the great icons.. Some of his songs were turned into movies that he played in.. Great reaction, and as always, Keep On Keepin' On.. Love y'all

I was betting that Baby Gap would cry.
Films with good soundtracks . Looking good ladies. The last time I messaged you I was recommending various soul artists from the 60s and 70s. Now I'd like to recommend two films and a British band called The Who just to show you how diverse the music was back then. The films are The Blues Brothers and The Commitments. Hope you get the chance to watch them and enjoy the music
Greetings from London. A beautiful song. Kenny perhaps not as popular in UK as in US. RIP Kenny.
You don't hide your feelings when it comes to music. I like that reaction. Prewtty too!
Probably the best love song in the world.
Soul Song
I loved the look of a kind of admiration from the younger one of you. Kenny works on every generation, it seems...
That eye widening during the first verse, she knew she was in trouble lol 😂
I love your reactions and comments to Kenny Rodgers "Lady"❤❤
Saw Kenny & Dolly in the round. Fabulous concert.
If he sang it to me I'd melt....and I'm a straight guy 🤣
RIP K/R 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Pride of Crockett, Texas. RIP Kenny
You guys are amazing thank you
Just found your channel...really enjoying your opinions
Kenny one of my favorite singers I grew up with. Wish you'd listen to Charmaine Leigh Casey singing"Find Myself, " she passed at 39 years old in 2006 but left behind a powerful message in her song"Find Myself. " a great inspirational song
I loved both of your reactions tonthe legendary Kenny rogers and him singing to iconic love song """LADY"".I love the emotions you showed.he will be sadly missed.im a new subscriber. keep up the good work
I believe Lionel Ritchie wrote the song for Kenny Rogers.
You can see the difference between mother and daughter. Mom is already in love and just being reminded why she loves Kenny. The daughter is falling in love with Kenny. You can almost see her thinking, i wonder what it would be like to meet him in person. Lol.
As Always Love Seeing Your Reactions Ladies 😊
I rate this as the best version of this song by far! Lionel wrote it and Kenny made it his own! Beautiful masculine voice!
Kenny Rogers has many other great songs to listen and react to. My favorite is You Decorated My Life. Through the Years is another great song. I Don't Need You, She Believes In Me, Crazy, 20 Years Ago are other great songs by Kenny. I could go on and on like with the Bee Gee's that you've reacted to a list of their songs. Please react to more songs sung by Kenny Rogers
Such a great song!❤
"You and I" Written by Barry Gibb is another great Kenny-song
Great song choice again ladies, would you play Immortality written by the Bee Gees for the great Celine Dion
i sung this song twice in public to my wife the first time was when we got married 33 years ago and last year when i lost her to illness i sung it at her funeral this song meant so much to me and my wife lost my lover best friend and sole companion just hard times now
The silver fox at his finest 😍
Great "couples" skate song back in the day... so many good memories!
This is Rnb very out of the ordinary for Kenny - beautiful song…. You have to see the live version with him and Lionel .
Not just beautiful, but TOTALLY EPIC! just sayin'!👀😉
Check out Kenny Rogers when he was with The First Edition - Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in)
Lionel Ritchie did not just write the song... He wrote it specifically with Kenny Rogers in mind, and of course, he still has his own version of this song as well, which he put out later, after Kenny's "magic" began to wear off in the charts....
You're the best Mom.
Awww that’s a very nice thing to say, thank you! 😊❤️😃
@@generationgapreacts You are very welcome Mom.
Fun fact, Lionel wrote the last verse of this song in the bathroom of the studio on the day it was recorded.
