So about the dogs/muts. In the book, they have the hair and eyes from the dead tributes. So the one that almost attacks Katniss, has the hair and eyes of Rue, the little girl she was allied with. Which was why Katniss was hysterical and asking Peeta to kill it
They took that detail out of the movie? that was HUGE. really drove home how evil your government is, as if forcing your citizens to fight in a battle royale to the death wasn't enough.
They guy was eaten by mutants in the movie was a tank in the book having some armor that helped him survive the mutants for a whole night then dying from katniss shooting an arrow at his eye or neck I can’t remember
The bread part is significant because Peeta purposefully burns the bread and then gets his ass beat raw by his parents so he can throw some food to Katniss who is stating to death in the rain.
I did some research and the largest bucket of "industrial strength horse glue" I could find was 1 gallon. If we use ounces instead of gallons and toes being pedicured instead of full pedicures, we get 970 out of 1,536. Reduced, that equals about 6.3 out of 10, or 3.15 out of 5.
The books were actually meant to be sort of sadistic, like Katniss never really could have a true happy ending. She fell in love to survive, not only because she loved Peeta. People were always in control of her, and I believe that Suzanne Collins wanted the characters to be a little different than typical main characters. I don't think she intended Katniss to be a "girl queen boss" or whatever some teenage girls like to call her, I think she was meant to be made like an example of surviving, and the strategical and crazy stuff you do to live. Edit: It's been a year later and Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes adaptation just came out. Haven't watched it yet, but I read the books and it is really interesting how Suzanne Collins portrayed Lucy Gray in the same light as she did for Katniss: falling in love to survive. However, Lucy Gray's lovelife with Snow seemed to represent Katniss if Katniss had not genuinely fallen in love for Peeta. Two similar love stories, two different endings. We already can tell that Snow sees Lucy Gray in Katniss through her songs, but we can also analyze the fact that Snow sees Lucy Gray in Katniss because both of the girls sought out survival through gaslit and decepitive relationships. How does the movie represent this? I've yet to know. I've seen some reviews but they are pretty ass reviews that don't describe the elements of the story at all except: "Snow is so hot", "Perfect example of toxic mascuilinity portrayed in a movie," "Moral of the story: if you dump your boyfriend he turns into a facist", etc. So... yeah all these reviews don't give any insights at ALL. I love the book franchise and loved the book but I'll just have to see if the movie lead up to the same satisfactory results I had for the book. (I slightly doubt it, however)
I can so agree with this, I hate the movies because they potorayed her differently, in my person opinion, Katniss was likable and wasn't mean to me (sullen and hostile as haymitch said) that being said they changed so much, about the capitol being darker than in the moves (Like when portia was excited on live TV, and when effie said "don't want to steal all the glory, do we?" about Katniss volunteering, also its quite sad in the book when she realises she has to marry peeta and will never marry anyone else, also I feel they did this with coin as well, in the movies didn't didn't exactly do anything negative in the movies, but in the book she did, also if I remember correctly Katniss didn't exactly like her, but I think Katniss was normal teenager, and expected to mature as the games followed, it's also horrific that her prep team were jealous of her surgery where they removed scars,, and even said they were sad that cinna said no alterations, I think it's an important detail that Katniss found her prep team int he room, it really shows who coin is..
Sorry to add, but I think it's also important that the movies left out the part where cato was holding clove as she died, in the movie, their all villians, where as in the book, you get some insight on how human they were and it isn't their fault at it, just the capitols, in the book it focuses on how they were all victims no matter how violent some of them were, their stills victims
3:05, District 1 is Luxury, District 2 is Masonry, District 3 is Technology, District 4 is Fishing, District 5 is Power, District 6 is Transportation, District 7 is Lumber, District 8 is Textiles, District 9 is Grain, District 10 is Livestock, District 11 is Agriculture, And District 12 is Mining. (District 13 was known for Graphite Mining but it was secretly nuclear technology)
as someone who's favorite books and movies are The Hunger Games, I loved this and I thought it summarized the movie better than any other channel I have seen
All of this guys' summaries are funny as hell and shockingly accurate. And as for the Hunger games I enjoyed them when i was younger, but tbf I've read and watched far better dystopian novels/ movies etc. Even a short 15 minute dystopian episode from "Love death and robots" had a bigger impact on me than the hunger games did.
The districts are: 1. Luxury items for capitol (Rich ppl) 2. Masonry, Weapons (and recruitment of peacekeepers) 3. Technology (Kind of rich) 4. Fishing (Poor) - rest are poor 5. Power 6. Transportation 7. Lumber 8. Textiles 9. Grain 10. Livestock 11. Agriculture 12. Coal 13. Used to be graphite but now creates big boom stuff The bread was burnt so his mother said to throw it out/feed it to the pigs. It is later discovered he burnt the bread on purpose. They give her a high score in the book so that the other tributes will see her as a threat and hopefully kill her. If she (District 5 Girl) took the other packages, the tribute(s) who needed that package would go after her. She goes in while everyone else is watching and assessing the situation, and no one can go after her cause they would lose their package to someone else. Edit: Thanks for the 2k likes, sorry for getting 3 and 4 mixed up
So the BREAD!! In the books, that was like.... A whole thing. Peeta, already in love with Katniss, clearly noticed she was starving outside. He knew that if he burnt some bread, he'd get his absolute ass whopped, but that he could toss it to her after since his parents weren't so badly off that they'd sit through burnt bread - they own a bakery btw, pretty much solely selling bread since there's a pretty slim access to sugar. So yeah. It was basically some very early foreshadowing that Peeta was willing to "sacrifice" himself for Katniss, which he proceeds to try to do for the whole book and two sequels. It also kinda shows off how much of a softie he is. He has some very, very strict morals for a kid, which are held in pretty high contrast to at least 70% of the other characters in the series, but in the third book especially as a contrast to Gale. Gale essentially commits what most people would call war crimes in the 3rd book, and is very unappologetic about it, which UPSETS Katniss. Like. A lot. He also kills Prim - he didn't target her specifically, but he was targeting Rebel First Responders which he decided to sacrifice to pin their murders on the Capital and Prim had become an EMT of sorts by then. Did his strategy work? Yes. Was it super fucked up and completely unforgiveable to Katniss when she found out? Also yes. Which is why she chose Peeta in the end, which is supposed to symbolize choosing peace and happiness over letting the horrors of trauma and war turn her into a sociopath.
So, Peeta and Katniss were essentially written as a couple from the beginning? that pretty much was serious long term storytelling for all three movies/books.
@@galaxystudios370 He knew about the plan and everything and helped with it. So he was sorta responsible. Like katniss said at the end of book 3, she didnt need another lover burning with fire she needed a calm and peacefull lover
same here bro, they keep telling us in school to always read the book and never watch the movies. but the movies keep the important themes and topics otherwise the movie would be a terrible adaptation from the book
@@mattbrad074 well a lot of movie adaptations of books are awful so it’s generally a good idea, but in this case the hunger games movies are pretty good lol
The books are great. If you enjoy Hunger Games, there is a guy on youtube named Christian Blanco and he came up with stories from the very first Hunger Games until the 100th, giving every winner a name, different arenas, stories, POVs which you can root for etc. Highly recommend it!
I went to see this in theaters, and when the kid at 8:44 got killed via neck snap, every mom in the theater gasped simultaneously and my friend and I busted out laughing
My mom and dad tried to cover my eyes when this scene was coming but I watched it anyway. I was actually 6 at the time and if ya think I was traumatized, I wasn’t (for some reason death does not freak me out, nor does blood and gore)
These type of neck snap deaths in movies are always so rediculous to me because Cato would have to be some giant 7 foot tall beefcake with arms the size of trees and this kid would have to be a midget with a pencil for a neck to actually have that work. Especially when you can see he just turned his head to look over his shoulder quickly XD Edit: It takes 3,000 newtons to snap a human neck, about a 10 foot fall straight onto your head could do it. Or leave you with a broken spine and paralyzed. Cato just gave that kid a little whiplash is all XD
@@Cybertooth09 that’s because they’re just sleeping And also blood and gore means them being mauled to death by some monster and enjoying a slow and excruciatingly painful death.
For anyone confused, here’s a few reasons for weird things in the movies without explanation. Firstly, the reason Cato and the Careers don’t go for Katniss in the tree is because in the books, the lightest on of them would have been about 30 pounds heavier than Katniss herself. Second, Cato was furious the Katniss got a higher score than him in training, feeling as though he’d been shown up. That’s why he wanted to murder her so much. And lastly, Peeta was actually with his own separate stylist, Portia, who’s not shown in the movies when he was about to go into the arena.
@@Wakkiau Actually her nails are mentioned in the book twice… she comments on how they are scruffy, chipped and dirty and how Cinna’s team is able to make them look beautiful and clean after they “worked their magic” So although the production team of the movie didn’t take into account her nails. The original story did! :)
For people who haven't seen the movie, 4:46 to 5:03 and 11:18 to 11:39 is 100% percent accurate to the film. Not even joking. These are almost word for word reenactments of these scenes. These reenactments get 5 bags of popcorn and 3 cups of soda from me. It's a work of art.
Obviously it's because it's common knowledge that Critikal was part of the main cast. His role was so powerful that even without the credit the people would know that he starred as the lead
I really appreciate what you're doing here, like almost all of the movies you talk about are ones that are very well-known and I don't feel like watching.. so thanks your high-ness
In the book the ending is even more sadistic. Because the mutts at the end have human like features and I believe even have human voices and are made of parts of the other contestants bodies. So they mutts have rues voice and features which is what originally tricks Katniss into almost dying to them.
High Boi would win the hunger games… literally he could be in the hunger games with professional hunger game winners and would still somehow manage to win
This shines a light on George Orwell's 1984 and modern and past dystopias in general and how the human condition is continuing to get closer and closer to fiction
He would make a dobe ash commentator 😎 also: there r technically two designers, one for each tribute - but the 12-designers works together to make them a pair (they r all matching in the movie however) so the other designer is with Peter 🤓 I listened to the audiobook a lot cuz I was morbidly fascinated with how the writing sometimes reflected and trickered my C-PTSD 😶🌫️
@@dylan351321 There was a book before the film I think, or maybe its film studies assignment, or a deep dive into the fashion they had to create for this movie, or a political class researching dystopian futures, or there was never any assignment and they are just lying.
“Who was with Peeta in his room with the tubes?” In the book, it’s stated that the tributes meet with their designers in the elevator, and Effie (the human makeup doll) wasn’t Peeta’s designer, but his designer was a woman named Portia as is stated in the book but she is never seen in the movie. Also, the healing cream was only for burns, not cuts.

It was never actually destroyed, and if you wanna know what happens next, either scroll down a stupid long amount or watch the other 4 movies. Damn. You got some dedication for spoilers... District 13 became an underground society plotting the overthrow of the government of Panem. After Katniss survives the Hunger Games, she gets put in this other 75-year remix of the Hunger Games during which she commits severe uninsured property damage on the arena and leaves. She is then drafted into a new civil war as a bit of both a military and spiritual leader and all except the dipshets in Districts 1 and 2 join the fight against Panem. After Peeta gets kidnapped a bit and some other stuff, Panem gets sent to Brazil, the rebellion leader and Panem leader die, Katniss loses Primrose, and a whole bunch of other convoluted stuff that ends with a closing shot of Katniss and Peeta with their two children some amount of years after the war. This series gets a whistling throatbox out of 28 stab wounds.
See I don't really like effie, read all the books and I didn't really like her comments about manners (Like I know she doesn't know any better when she says stuff like."You have the best manners I've ever seen in a tribute!) but it's quite annoying
@@masterchiefiii Right, so clearly he has nothing to fear from making slightly offensive jokes. That's my point here, he's not being brave or not giving a fuck, he just knows nothing will come of it
The point of the 11 scoring was to make her a target. They addressed that in the book but failed to do that in the movie but that's essentially what happened. By giving her such a high score the other players see her as a threat and target her first.
To be fair, we don't know exactly why they scored her that way, and everyone who talked about it was unreliable. The game master might have said that to Snow to justify himself. Katniss might have believed that because she was a cynic. But if the point of the scoring was to determine who was most likely to win, then Katniss SHOULD have received the highest score because she DID win. Certainly her secret demonstration showed that she was willing to do dangerous things, capable of being sneaky for some time, and also extremely competent with a weapon. This is all true of literally none of the other tributes - some were sneaky, some were trained, but none all three.
@@HerculesBallsInc but Kathiss did not have the highest chance to win. Most likely Cato did and following him would probably be marvel and clove. Katniss just got very lucky at times her skill could not save her
@@hippo4262 I don't think I agree with your analysis. Katniss has a lot of advantages the other tributes do not have. Yes, the careers are well-fed and well-trained, they team up and have weapons of their choice. But given that, how do you choose AMONG the careers? Eventually they'll run out of victims and have to turn on each other and it becomes a toss-up at that point. Katniss, on the other hand, is not only massively proficient in a weapon but in a way the careers are not - her daily survival is dependent upon her actually killing things with it. How many of the careers have killed ANYTHING? Reality sometimes beggars simulation. Likewise, Katniss deeply understands surviving off the land and dealing with hunger and privation, which are things none of the careers understand except intellectually at best. When Katniss has to 'rough it' in the wilderness, surviving isn't a threat to her like it is to almost every other tribute. This is mentioned explicitly in both the movie and the book - without their huge store of food the careers have at best a day or two to live. They never bothered to learn to hunt for survival, to tell edible berries from poison ones, or clean water from diseased. And we do see them falling to these things. Remember that Rue got a rating of 7 in spite of having no appreciable weapon skill at all. Not an accident! After Katniss, my money would have been on Thresh and for the same reasons - he can live off the land and accidentally has enough combat prowess to be dangerous. And sure enough he almost is one of the finalists. Thresh scored a 10. So Katniss' 11 is not really that bizarre...
In the books, the mutant ugly dogs are actually the past players. It gives a detail about Katniss being able to tell who’s who. Like a girl from district 1, glimmer, and also seeing rue in one. Also in the books the second thing was a big meal with dinner rolls, desserts, and other things. This was really expensive for the sponsors because the packages get more expensive as the game continues. the map was also laid out very differently.
8:43 imagine being the parent of that kid and watching him just get his neck snapped for making a mistake and then discarded like trash 😭 at least the other kids could put up a fight and give the parents false hope but that came out of nowhere
10:04 a detail that the movies couldn't make: The reason why Foxface couldn't take the others; she knew that if she stole the other packs, the other tributes would be sure to chase her down, and she knows she's not strong enough to beat any of the tributes remaining.
Two things: Peeta burned the bread on purpose so he could give some to Katniss and got punished for it. Katniss could've killed a gamemaker; but she didn't. And next year, gamemaker security got upgraded so she solved a possible problem without anyone getting hurt.

The best option for the tree part could be to burn it down, if they had some way to keep the fire from spreading. They're also the largest and strongest group in the game at that time, so they don't need to be worried about alerting anyone to their presence with a fire. But then again, I don't know if any of them would be smart enough to be able to keep such a fire controlled anyway.
@@plinius902 There is plenty of burnable material around though, they had pretty much every advantage except for plot, they could have started a bonfire around the tree, and then plot armor could save catnip when the group of juiced up murder junkies inevitably start infighting.

In my opinion I was so confused when watching catching fire (no bonnie and twill wtf, also beetee fell in the water not Katniss) I also think it was DESPICABLE that they didn't include Peetas leg, Peetas prep teams live execution, Katniss when she walks into a room to find her prep team there because they stole bread, and I find it weird how they left out so much about the capitols dark things, and even the children in the woods mirror rues end.. Foxface (the ginger gall) didn't grab the other bags so she could run without being hunted. The others wouldn't chase after her with their own bags on the line. But Foxface wasn't very smart because she studied berries and edible stuff for days in training and died from eating poison nightshade which is like super duper common...
Katniss theorised that Foxface just ate the berries because she trusted whatever food that the duo gathered must be edible. Another thing could be that Foxface was so hungry until she couldn't think properly and just wanted to eat something since her body was described as emaciated when she died. The suicide theory is also possible cuz Foxface had no food, low supplies and was up against Cato and Katniss which she couldn't really beat in a fight.
I remember thinking that the district's were in a straight line and then seeing the map just made the Capitol's rule so much more confusing when they're surrounded by the districts. I understand that they have fancy tech but why not just use Stalin's method of throwing men at the issue until it stops. Most of their soldiers come from the districts so if they were to up and stop supplying them with soldiers and other stuff the Capitol would be fucked

Well, the largest districts population and Tech wise, the Careers, were allied with the Capitol. Damn dude it still bummed me out that they killed thresh (big man tyrone) off the screen that guy was like the predator in one area in the arena, a wheat field. He killed a lot of people there
In the books, after hearing Katpiss’s speech about what she did with Rue before and after her death, He defends her, and lets her get away from Jake Paul (Cato) who’s enraged after the death of Julia Rose (Clove) and Cato ends up killing Big man Tyrone (Thresh) during their battle. Honestly I was pretty mad when I found out they killed him from some off screen dogs in the movie
Three things. The guy that spares Katniss near the end, in the book, keeps her alive because Katpiss tells him she teamed with her, Peeta has to be given sleep syrup so Katniss can go to get the package, and Katniss still had the healing Vaseline which she did use, though I could be wrong don't quote me on that
and the biggest thing of all, from what I can tell they just completely ignored the whole "on the brink of death since my wounds went septic and i have blood poisoning and there's only one super expensive pill that can fix it" thing, which felt just a little bit important
The thing that pisses me off about this movie... is that , if these people from the districts were starving, why don't they all look like children who actually starved? I expected them all to look like skin and bones. These kids don't look at all hungry. Great review though. Thanks for this... saves me the time from watching this.

There's no way Gale was responsible for the hovercraft that launched the bombs.
He did design them, though.
@@galaxystudios370 He knew about the plan and everything and helped with it. So he was sorta responsible. Like katniss said at the end of book 3, she didnt need another lover burning with fire she needed a calm and peacefull lover

These type of neck snap deaths in movies are always so rediculous to me because Cato would have to be some giant 7 foot tall beefcake with arms the size of trees and this kid would have to be a midget with a pencil for a neck to actually have that work. Especially when you can see he just turned his head to look over his shoulder quickly XD

And also blood and gore means them being mauled to death by some monster and enjoying a slow and excruciatingly painful death.

The point of the 11 scoring was to make her a target. They addressed that in the book but failed to do that in the movie but that's essentially what happened. By giving her such a high score the other players see her as a threat and target her first.
They failed to do a lot In the movie. Like madge undersee.
Book readers know.
@@Your_mom513 facts

@@tamagoyaki56 that's also my theory, cuz the guy from her district was dead
Katniss theorised that Foxface just ate the berries because she trusted whatever food that the duo gathered must be edible. Another thing could be that Foxface was so hungry until she couldn't think properly and just wanted to eat something since her body was described as emaciated when she died.
The suicide theory is also possible cuz Foxface had no food, low supplies and was up against Cato and Katniss which she couldn't really beat in a fight.

I understand that they have fancy tech but why not just use Stalin's method of throwing men at the issue until it stops. Most of their soldiers come from the districts so if they were to up and stop supplying them with soldiers and other stuff the Capitol would be fucked
Isn't that what they did in the second and third books though?
I even remembered thinking, how the fuck has this empire gone on this long at all?!?! SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING DO NOT READ PAST THIS IF YOU (SOMEFUCKINGHOW) HAVENT READ THE BOOKS/WAYCHED THE MOVIES
They kicked out their fucking weapon development district!!!! What?!?! If you're a dictator or an oligarchy who run a nation the ONLY people you need to kiss the asses of is the military?? And not only that but having all of their food come from outside is a recipe for disaster before the military side even kicks in. Even if they had 13 on side from jump if all the food producers allied up they already lose. It'd be a war of attrition as soon as train lines are taken care of.
Well, the largest districts population and Tech wise, the Careers, were allied with the Capitol. Its been a few years since i read the books, but it wasnt the Capitol vs every district, rather, it was a classic civil war with the privileged districts allying with the capitol, and the oppressed ones allying with the rebellion
@@Ehaeka it just wasn't that the capital had nukes it had the most elite divisions which where raised from the capital poor. It's quality of forces where too high...
There was a prequel book that released not too long ago, and it described the war in grater detail where the Capitol narrowly won

You’re welcome high boiiiiii
The fact that on 6:23 you put the meme and you still say it out loud cracks me up so much
I think something you should have brought up, is that in the book they mention that the outfit that some district 12 contestants wore to the ceremony once wasn't even a costume, they were just naked and covered in coal dust.
The mental image is not fun.
Ew they would have been 18 at most as well
@@ErinOlivia_pretty sure on of them was 12 😳

How do you make these videos funnier every time. You would think they wouldn’t be funny anymore but no. Good job.
3:39 peeta purposefully burned the bread to feed to katness
I was about to say that 😂
2:17 thought he was doing a cool way to introduce a sponsor but i was wrong. thank you high boi
You were rightfully wrong for being right
9:40 guess you can say he was stoned
5:31 Ok, so I am one of ‘the nerds that read the books’ and since Cinna is Katniss’s stylist, Peeta met up with *his* stylist, Portia
I also read the books - my question is why does the stylist go with them at this stage of the Games - theres no point of a stylist once the interviews are over so why are they with them on the way to the actual games?
@@crimsonstrykr that’s a good point. Maybe just bc the tributes have gotten sort of close to their stylists at this point so the stylist is there to kinda comfort them?? But they have their mentor, so that theory doesn’t make much sense. Ig no one really knows lol
@@crimsonstrykr I wonder if it was to set up the beatdown in the second book?
I was about to comment this
Literally choking on my lunch and dying at the Seneca crane accent mid vid. Too much man yer murderin my funny bone.
I was trying to eat a grilled cheese but was laughing too hard. Damn you high boi and your extreme talent in explaining shit hilariously!
Then again I haven’t read through the book in a while so I could be wrong
"coom glazed donuts. flour you suck up your nose and other orifaces that makes you go wooo"
Had me dieing, man. High boi, keep being you.
6:22 Catto (Jake) wants to kill her bc she got an 11 and he got a 10 so he became jelly
actually it's Cato and he got an 8
7:11 "gets her a care package in the form of a packet of his jizz" made me die laughing.
I woke up from a nap and no joke thought to myself, "High boi has posted another video. "My brain needed this. Thanks bro.
Three things. The guy that spares Katniss near the end, in the book, keeps her alive because Katpiss tells him she teamed with her, Peeta has to be given sleep syrup so Katniss can go to get the package, and Katniss still had the healing Vaseline which she did use, though I could be wrong don't quote me on that
reading the thing for English class, I can confirm everything so far except the thing about District 11 Male
Peeta also was a lot worse than in the movie. They forgot the buckets of ooze and puss.
I think the healing Vaseline was only for burns
and the biggest thing of all, from what I can tell they just completely ignored the whole "on the brink of death since my wounds went septic and i have blood poisoning and there's only one super expensive pill that can fix it" thing, which felt just a little bit important
That playing rust irl was perfectly timed 😂😂😂
high boy's growth has been so fast but its for a clear reason yet another masterpiece video
4:51 wait a minute I know that voice
Is that…AINSLEY!!!???
Hahahahaha - omg thats what I thought too - I knew I heard that voice somewhere before!!
The thing that pisses me off about this movie... is that , if these people from the districts were starving, why don't they all look like children who actually starved? I expected them all to look like skin and bones. These kids don't look at all hungry.
Great review though. Thanks for this... saves me the time from watching this.
Kinda hard to make characters look like they are starved without starving the actors, which is a little much for a movie
@@thelordz33 some actors can and did do this, you can't make children do this xD

I don't know why... But now I keep seeing President Snow As This Upset Black Man Smoking a Cigarette... xD 5:00
Thanks.. 😄😄😄
In times of crisis and never ending war, suffering and pain, High boi videos are what you need to continue living.
Book nerd here to explain the bread scene, Peeta intentionally burnt the bread and his family sells bread and other baked good. So, with it being burnt he was told to feed it to the pigs and threw some to Katpiss the person he burnt the bread for
They’re also quite rich having a successful buisness and sometimes making cakes for the capitol… right? At least i know they arent dirt poor
Wasn’t it also kinda hinted in the movie that Quefa intentionally burned that bread to give it to Nevercheese? Bc i never read the books but i knew that
KATPISS 😭
@@btstrasharmyexo-lbaekiesha2776 Yes he intentionally burnt it
