    Description
    Ready for the fray
    Long before America entered World War II, the Spitfire Mk. II was already fighting the Nazis. It's combination of improved propeller, more powerful engine and better pilot armor gave Britain's defenders a better chance against advanced German fighters. Though many other types were to come, it was the Mk I and II that broke the Luftwaffe in the crucial days during and just after the Battle of Britain. Nearly one thousand were produced in a shadow factory at Castle Bromwich. This kit features detailed parts and period markings.

    Due to old age and increasing infirmaty I can only marvel at your your skill, my hands shake too much even to us a knife and fork, but I can still type with my right forefinger. I would love to see you complete a model of the P51 "Ding Hao". I first bought the Monogram kit nearly 60 years ago, and despite many attempts, I could not even come close to your skill. I have a 4x2 portrait of it in my bedroom (I had a photographer friend of mine blow the Monogram image up) Simply put... people like you give me a reason to be!

      Hello John. First of all, HONORED! Second, thank you, because if you say that people like me give you a reason to be, then i can surely say that people like YOU are the reason this world os a better One, and because of that i have a reason to also exist. This is modeling, we deram throught our Models, fly, Sail through the seas, fight wars and pay our respects to all those who fought for us. For your life, and work what ever was thank you! Never EVER give up. And ALWAYS try to see through the fog that this life sometimes throw at us... with great respect..
      Alex

      @@AlexModeling It is so heartening to read this. I am blessed with many things and most of which relate to this post. I have my good health and nimble fingers and now that I am closer to 70 than 60 I want to try and exhaust my stash. This kit, and this dialogue have affirmed my wish to leave behind a legacy of plastic models for the sheer pleasure of the building.

    Pretty good job Alex! I'm in the middle of building the Revell mk IXc, myself. For future reference and only if you're really worried about it, of course, is the flaps. When the spitfire landed, the pilots immediately retracted the flaps to avoid damaging them on the taxi.

    Really beautifully done. Love how the rivets & panel lines show on the decals in some places, giving the illusion of being painted on!

      AlexModeling Great piece though - what do you use for the antenna wire?

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  8 років тому +1

      Matt Robinson On this one i think i used elastic wire... not sure but i think it was... but im sure you know you can also use melted stretched plastic also

    • @mattrobinson4994
      @mattrobinson4994 8 років тому +1

      AlexModeling I've tried that technique but I find it difficult and tedious. My last build was the 1/32 Revell Erich Hartmann Bf109 G10, and I used black sowing thread. Others I've used thin wire from train hobby supplies.

    Thank you Alex!!
    I didn't expect such a speedy reply.
    My son got me back into building models again, I always loved 1/32nd scale. It was only a dream at one time that wouldn't it be great to see models like HE-111, JU-88 etc in 1/32nd.!! As for a beutifully detaile Spitfire like the one from R of Germany WOW.
    right after I watched your video I went to ebay and bought it like you said it was $20 and it was the last one at that price.
    Also I like the black application of paint before applying the final colours is there a formula you follow?
    I look forward to seeing more of what you build
    Thanks again

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  9 років тому

      No mate there isnt a formula.. just aply black and then paint with a good AB the gaps beetwen leaving the panels.. its an option for pre shading:)

    Hi; beautiful kit and beatiful paint. I'd say there is a slight problem with the ailerons as they cannot be down at the same time, unlike the stabilizators. If you go to an air show this year ask pilots, this just a technical point! but the whole build is very nice though

  • @warrenchambers4819
    @warrenchambers4819 9 років тому +1

    Alex you have got the weathering skills mastered. Well done, took me many yrs to get a weathered finish to turn out that dirty. If I may offer some constructive criticism, the only 3 issues I see that keep your model from a real show winner is proper alignment of the landing gear, a few seams needed alittle filling and both of the ailerons are down. One aileron should be up and the other down. That's how an airplane rolls left or right. Please don't take offense to this, only trying to help. Normally I wouldn't comment on anyone's build but you have the touch for making really outstanding models. I would love to see more of your work.

      AlexModeling Are you asking me about the 1/48 Airfix I was working on with Shane? or you asking about the 1/32 Revell bf109 G-6 & G-10? The Airfix kit I don't even want to look at because of the primer failure. I will just start another one of these I have like 7 or 8 of them. Those big 1/32 kits will take a while before I get to them I need to improve my aircraft skills vastly before I attempt them.

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  10 років тому

      TacticalJackalope i would never asked you for the 1/48 i saw how much "frustrated" you were... let it be and build another.. fresh mind on a fresh kit.. i was asking for the 1/32 they are simple as 1/48 believe me.. but then again if someone told me the same about a car for ex. i would say...-"yeah.. ok.." lol

    Bem Haja !! Gostaria de deixar um conselho; use um pouco menos de pressão no aerógrafo para certos pormenores. Também uma ponteira de menor diâmetro e tinta mais diluída ajudam quando definir os painéis das asas ou fuselagem. Bons kits !!

    VERY nice result, Alex! And a good demonstration of various products, and the video will be very educational for people that are new to the hobby.
    However, you forgot to film spraying "dark earth" (intentional?) which isn't really a problem... but you should have mentioned gloss coating it prior to decals and weathering.
    I'll give you 9.5 out of 10! Very good video.

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  10 років тому

      The dark earth was not intentional i was filming and the batery went dead just when i was starting to film.. i had the paint already thinned on the AB so... better not to dry! i actually had a video that showed me giving a clear coat but as you can see im not a pro on this... on some clips there is to much light and on others to few... that one was clear as totally clear because the sun made the film all white so... thanks

      Thank you so much for commenting! Its a hobbie... but sometimes i really am sorry i didnt count the amount of time on it... love your channel;) thanks for the compliment on the video... but there s still a lot i have to learn on video editing;)

    • @ModelloursWorkshop
      @ModelloursWorkshop 9 років тому

      AlexModeling You learn by doing and you are doing fine. Editing is actually really simple. It's the software that makes it complicated ;) Once you start to edit your footage you have a new potential path. You can go down that path as long as you choose or stop and turn back. It's your own decision but you have opened new potential for personal growth. Like a new bud on a flower. This is what I love about UA-cam. You get to see people grow :)

      Hello Hardi my friend! I hope you and your family are ok... on this build there is a mistake... both ailerons are down (my pure mistake) one must be up ant the other down... this being said.. it is a fantastic kit to build.. i had tremendous fun on it... a word of caution... when building the pilots seat... its 4 pieces i think and it must be perfect otherwise the cair will be twisted on the cokpit.. nice seing you my friend

    What is the reason for separating the red from the white and the blue on the decals going under the wing ?

    Can a Spitfire move both ailerons in th down position...If that is so then its something I didn't realise...I can only imagine it would be the case if one of them were 'unwired' for transporting...Great build all the same...Thanks for the vid!

    Hi Alex
    how did you get the dials onto the dashboard, the decal supplied is one large piece did you cut out the individual dials, if so what with ? great build will be using it as a reference for my build
    thank you

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  9 років тому

      Hy Mark... well.. i placed the decal cut in sections onto the inst panel... then placed it on top of it... used a lot of setting solution and very veeery patiently with a brush toke care of the wrinkles... sometimes used a needle in order to make sure the air underneath the decal could come out in order for it to sattle... it was a boring process but in the end paied of... off corse you can always cut the dials!:)
      Thanks for your comment:)

      +AlexModeling thanks for the advice and don't apologise for the lack of music I kind of prefer it that way anyway :). (i should qualify that I like the commentary but prefer it without music.
      If you need any ideas for videos then maybe some tutorials on your airbrushing techniques would be cool.

I am about to receive my spitfire kit in the mail, and this video seems like it would (with audio) be JUST the reference for me to achieve good results. Sending love from New Jersey, USA

    What are the 2 Tamiya glues you use one has a green top and the other a red top?

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  9 років тому

      the red one is thick regular tamyia glue.. i use it for big surfaces.. the green is Tamyia thin cement... it melts the plastic.. you DRY FIT the pieces together and pass the aplicator beetween both pieces on the joints and.. voila!:)

    Thanks again Alex.
    I watched the video again with my son last night. You mention "Vallejo"? paints. I saw them used on a U-Tube video the modeler was building the 1/32nd scale HE-111. I would like to try these as they appear to be non-toxic and you can use them in the airbrush right out of the bottle !!? Which would be good for my son to start airbrushing without the chemical smells in the house. Where does one buy them?
    Thanks again!!

    • @AlexModeling
      @AlexModeling  9 років тому

      Probably the 1/32 build HE111 was mine... i use vallejo all the time... well... AK paints are water based... yhe new ones even have a sweet smell and are not toxic! I would go for AIR VALLEJO or AK paints! ;)
