I met Alex a few years ago and he’s exactly the same as this interview. He’s the most chill person with a dry sense of humor. He’s super humble and didn’t talk down to me when we chatted climbing.
I met him recently while on the summit of Mt. Charleston out here in Vegas and he was cool AF. I told him how I’d imagined running into out there eventually and how stoked I was to literally do just that! He let me snap a pic with him and then we both split in opposite directions. It was a moment I won’t forget.
Five years from now we'll learn that the whole point of this Podcast was for Tosh to remove clutter from his house and no other reason. And we'll all be here to applaud him for succeeding.
Going through the guest list, I’m in between him or Tony Horton for most famous. Go back 20 years and p90x was everywhere. Just talking recognizability

Add to that, Horton was part of a sustained marketing push for over a decade. Alex Honnold seems to just go with the flow and not even want the attention (in a good way). It'd be hard to guess

It literally took up an entire week watching every interview and video I could find because I was so fascinated. Never in a million years did I expected tosh show to be added to that list of interviews

Is this a generational thing? Most people in my age group like them. I’m thinking younger generations don’t like them but to be fair I probably wouldn’t like them based off their last couple of albums. I like stuff off their greatest hits and The Beautiful Day album. The newer stuff is mediocre.
I liked U2 a LONG time ago. I loved their first 3 albums A LOT. I liked their 4th “Unforgettable Fire” (produced by Brian Eno 👍🏻). From Joshua Tree on they were a boring stadium Pop band.

I loved every second of this I could probably listen to four hours of this. But it definitely was a sprint. Alex sounds like the coolest guy to hang out with and just chat… He handled being machine gunned with questions without even acting irritated at all.
Omg Tosh's brother is like my Grandpa sending me random things he thinks I'll use with written explanations and highlighted newspaper clippings of things he thinks I'll like. That's actually really sweet.
I love how excited Tosh gets, but also that he's not trying real hard to be funny. The funny moments feel like genuinely learning about someone, in the same way you would with a new friend at a party. Good shit
Honnold is the man. I will watch just about anything with him appearing in it. He's just so chill and down the earth and knowledgeable without being arrogant.

First off I think it's wonderful that Alex is still with us and we should cherish that every day. Second, I think it's wonderful that he hasn't fell off into obscurity and people still care and like to hear his thoughts. When a human accomplishes some of the things that he has, he absolutely deserves to stay relevant in culture and society. All things must pass, but we exist at the same time as this guy and that's awesome.

@@yakobl9010 I’ll say this too, I went into the Alpinist with no prior knowledge to the story or how it would shake out and in the end it his death made a lasting impact that will stick with me more then most films ever can. His outlook on life and his dedication to doing what he wanted against the grain is something that resonates with a lot of people, I honestly think there’s a little jealousy on the attention Marc got in those years before Alex made his own film, and Marc was well on his way to accomplishing all that can be done in that sport

Free Solo had me so stressed out about his survival and his film crew/fellow climbers -- excellent in all aspects and love that he can do interviews like this

I’ve seen a ton of Honnold interviews and this is such a refreshing type that isn’t harping on just climbing but more about him as a person

He already explained that that is not his role. And that basically he has no rules, but specifically it was no comedians.
He's the GOAT of free solo climbing, but there are many others that are climbing more difficult routes (on a rope or bouldering)

Don’t really know how good this Honnold guy is at rock climbing but since he is Tosh’s favorite, he will be my favorite too.
